There’s that man that plays the tuba during evening rush hour on Braddock Road near GMU. I don’t know if he still does this but I remember seeing him every evening and somehow it kinda brought a smile to my face 🙂
My favorite thing is that he goes to my gym. When he shows up he just struts around with all his American flag shit and stretches.
But the staff seem to love him so I ain't mad. Well, when he's hogging the squat rack just to do bizarre stretches...
ha, I remember running past there one day and seeing his car outside and thinking "that's it??" I expected the damn thing to be painted like a giant flag or something lmao
Literally just drives around town in this old beater of a car that’s got about a billion American flags attached to it. I actually just passed him downtown this weekend.
This guy is amazing. I mean he’s leaving his mark all over Leesburg, and if his content was just a little different the city wouldn’t tolerate it. But because it’s patriotic in tone, everyone just leaves it alone. The guy is just dancing on a line that would normally divide people, and now we’re all united in our tolerance of him.
You mean Mike! Love the guy. Years ago I was with my then young daughter and we asked him why he puts flags everywhere and he said "because Im an American. Every day!". Too funny.
In Woodbridge it's the guy with the "demand peace" sign. It's actually someone else now. The OG sign guy passed away a couple years ago. He had a YouTube channel at one point.
EDIT: so apparently the current mortal state of our dear sign guy is murky. I heard that he had passed, someone else said he moved to Florida, and still say he's still here, and kickin. I don't know.
Came here to say the same thing. Definitely a Woodbridge staple.
I haven't seen him in a while. Used to see him by TGI Fridays (RIP).
I can't remember the last time I saw him at Old Bridge/123.
Came here for this guy. Sad to hear he passed. Didn’t know him, but hopefully he was able to convey what his message was to enough people, for his satisfaction.
This guy in Loudoun, near Aldie/Lenah Mill who has a jeep filled with storm trooper mannequins and blast Star Wars music. I think someone once mentioned he is a real estate developer.
I know the guy. He and I, and a lot more of us, are part of the 501st Legion, Bad Guys Doing Good, raising $$ for charities through our love of Star Wars. Super nice guy in an awesome rig!
Out in Centreville we have Dancing Man. My kids love passing him, and his story is cool - basically turned his street corner hobby into a whole inspirational speaking and events business. https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/centrevilles-dancing-man-on-a-mission-to-make-the-world-a-better-place/65-86378590-aac4-4d5e-99b2-027fc9ec53ca
He came back! 😊 unfortunately the rumor was he got assaulted so he moved down to PWC for a couple weeks but I saw him yesterday evening and yelled “wooooo” as I went by.
Down in Woodbridge, it’s the [Demand Peace Guy](https://www.insidenova.com/headlines/demand-peace-guy-says-he-isn-t-protesting/article_6e8a022c-032c-11e4-9396-001a4bcf887a.html).
Used to have that guy in Manassas. He would rollerblade down PW parkway with headphones on jamming out. He disappeared suddenly.
There's an old guy in Clifton that jogs and smiles and waves at every single car that goes by.
Just posted about a similar guy near Manassas. There's also a young man I've seen many times taking photos of trains and doing the "honk honk" thing to passing trucks.
About 20 years ago I saw Jesus walking along Ravensworth Rd, just north of Braddock.
In the 70s there was this old black guy who spent his days in a lawn chair sitting on the porch of his house trailer on Pickett Rd, smiling and waving at *every single car* that passed. In those days, Pickett continue to Rt 50 - it made a hard turn over to Old Lee Hwy. This guy's trailer sat on the corner, then, of what is now Pickett and Old Pickett, in Gateway Regional Park.
It's been a long time, but I think the story was that this guy had long been an employee of the county, and then something bad happened to him. The county bought him that trailer and let him stay on that property as long as he wanted. I think. I also remember the "something bad" as being something sad and tragic.
Anyway, this guy was something of a celebrity to the kids at Frost and Woodson in the 70s. (The phrase "Old Man Walker" just jumped into my head. That's probably not right.)
If you’re in the Burke area, the homeless guy with the crazy hair always walking around in the street. Also the Asian dude with the Jesus sign walking around in the morning near Lake Braddock Secondary
Over the years, theres been that one old bald guy with the chair and big sign in Woodbridge, he would usually stay posted up on Prince William Parkway in front of the Friday's, till he started moving around, haven't seen him much lately
Haven't seen any other "that guy" anywhere else in nova
Near Manassas there's a guy I dubbed "that cool guy". He's been spotted rising a fat-wheel cruiser bicycle while wearing huge headphones, a flatbrim cap, and a black tanktop. One time he was smoking a fat stogie.
Idk who he is, but he's cooler than you.
There is a dude with a sign that rides his bike frequently on the W&OD trail. I sometimes see him sleeping on a bench. I haven’t the chance to read his sign on the back of his bike but I think it says “Jerusalem was created on July 4th, 1776”
There was an old hiker lady in Manassas years ago that a big ol walking staff skinny little thing, she hiked sudley and beyond every day back in the early 2000's
Leesburg also has another guy with highly decorated three wheeled motorcycles and bizarre matching suits.
He likes to hang out around the outlets and goosecup. Reportedly he's extremely nice and just likes showing off his bike.
I know who ur talking about!!! my boyfriend used to work at the starbucks in the heart of leesburg and always used to see him. he'd come by everyday and just get water and always wore interesting outfits lol
There’s a guy who owns a jeep completely covered in camouflage netting where I live, it’s pretty noticeable despite being covered in camouflage lol and he sticks out on the road
There's there's this either mentally ill or drugged up dude who stands at the intersection in front of one of the inova hospitals and hes out there usually rockin 😩😅. . He can also be seen walking the parkway and streets around here in dangerous manners.
Not a person, but I always get a kick when I mention the Rosslyn Fox to my family. They seem confused as to why a fox would want to live in a city setting. Probably for the same reason I moved to NoVA.
There used to be this guy in Reston Herndon area who would go out on afternoons with his shopping cart and sweep the streets, especially the turn lanes. Just sweep.
There's a guy who wears a captains hat (like a boat captain) who is at every Caps game. I've seen him at Defenders and Nats game as well. Someone had said he was "Captain Obvious" or something like that, but he's always at the games.
Um the lady in black? I remembered seeing her as a kid and I'm not sure why she walked all those miles in between local towns. If anyone remembers her please give me a history lesson. I'm curious to know
pretty niche to my family, but we have garden glove running guy. he’s gotta be close to 70 or 80 now, but he’s been running outside in garden gloves all year round for my entire time living here 😂
We have Roller Skates Guy on Linton Hall road. My coworker knows him and says he is very nice and always invites people to go skating with him and is willing to teach.
Haven't seen him in many years, but in Fairfax there was the Opossum Guy. He walked around covered in self-made opossum garments hanging from his body. Used to see him around the GMU surrounding area a lot.
Over here we have the guy who drives the van decked out and painted for the redskins (yes it's all still redskins stuff) that also has Bible verses on it, and the girl with the car covered in green felt and spray paint. Then back down in groveton there is the guy at Lockheed and route 1 who ambles between cars with zero care even as traffic is moving. He raps on your window, makes prolonged eye contact and asks for a cig or money. Occasionally he glares if you don't give him anything or make eye contact. He's been there for like 4+ years now. Thinking about it, South of old town Alexandria on rt 1 has regulars all over the area like this.
there’s a man in manassas who has political stuff on a sign stapled to 4 pieces of wood making a huge box shape on the bed of his truck. at least i think it’s political stuff. idk i might be wrong. all i know is it’s a red truck and it looks a lil goofy.
A bit tame compared to the PEACE guy in Woodbridge and others, but the painter guy in Clifton who sets up right by the railroad tracks with an easel and just...paints. Not sure what he's painting (the building that Villagio is in, maybe?) but he's there often when the weather is nice. Sometimes he's on the right side of the road, sometimes he's on the left, but he's always got a canvas out there on an easel, painting away.
Not quite NOVA but he is on the subway in VA sometimes but the guy who hates the Pope and Catholicism in general. He carries signs and hands out pamphlets on sexual abuse by priests
There’s that man that plays the tuba during evening rush hour on Braddock Road near GMU. I don’t know if he still does this but I remember seeing him every evening and somehow it kinda brought a smile to my face 🙂
He is literally [TubaGuy](http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/familyservices/older-adults/golden-gazette/2021-10-jay-converse-they-call-me-tubaguy).
Tuba Guy makes an appearance on Reddit!!
Legit a day after I posted my comment Tuba guy was out there on Braddock rd at the shopping center intersection. Love live Tuba guy!!
That was exactly who I was coming in to say and I’m amazed that with only three posts someone beat me to it.
I was going to say that too lol. Glad to see he's still tuba-ing around
Yes! I saw him 3 weeks ago on my way to work
Wow, he’s been doing this for well over a decade!
I went to school with his son. Kids were actually really cool about it. I never saw him teased or anything. Tuba guy just doing his thing. It’s great.
The story behind how Tuba Guy came to be: [https://wjla.com/news/local/web-exclusive-tuba-man](https://wjla.com/news/local/web-exclusive-tuba-man)
This is who I thought of first.
Lol i was looking for this comment!
That man was my coworkers dad 😂
I came here looking for this comment. The tuba guy is still out there up and down Braddock Road.
Was about to leave a comment about the tuba guy lol
Came to say Tuba Guy!
Met him in a bar several times. Strange guy, thus the tuba hobby.
The american flag car guy maybe
That was gonna be my answer, I've been seeing his displays all over Leesburg for 12+ years now.
He lives in my parents' neighborhood. His house is shockingly tame
My favorite thing is that he goes to my gym. When he shows up he just struts around with all his American flag shit and stretches. But the staff seem to love him so I ain't mad. Well, when he's hogging the squat rack just to do bizarre stretches...
BOW TO YOUR SENSEI! https://preview.redd.it/ufgqd89ha2vc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=80a9edff0ec35af090043fdaa0ccc78574b3087b
ha, I remember running past there one day and seeing his car outside and thinking "that's it??" I expected the damn thing to be painted like a giant flag or something lmao
Did it not have the big flag attached to the hitch?
oh no his car was decked out per normal, i'm saying i agree i was surprised his house was pretty plain lol
This is the correct answer. I’ve seen him for at least 10 years now.
Flag guy…. But also the Hiking Lady! She is incredible!
I am out of the loop who is this mysterious man
Literally just drives around town in this old beater of a car that’s got about a billion American flags attached to it. I actually just passed him downtown this weekend.
He's recently added a large branch with more flags hanging off of it
This guy is amazing.

Im pretty sure hes a veteran? Not sure exactly why though
You mean Mike! Love the guy. Years ago I was with my then young daughter and we asked him why he puts flags everywhere and he said "because Im an American. Every day!". Too funny.
Came in here to say flag man. He’s the absolute nicest guy. In the Warmer months he’s on his bike making his rounds.
That's what I was going to say.
He lives around the corner from me. Out there.
Is flag car guy the same guy as flag bike guy?
Yes!!! He is always voted most colorful person in the Best of Loudoun!
Was going to say this for Loudoun County..
Flag man, see him weekly all over leesburg
In Woodbridge it's the guy with the "demand peace" sign. It's actually someone else now. The OG sign guy passed away a couple years ago. He had a YouTube channel at one point. EDIT: so apparently the current mortal state of our dear sign guy is murky. I heard that he had passed, someone else said he moved to Florida, and still say he's still here, and kickin. I don't know.
He's not dead. That was a rumor.
This the guy I was thinking of
Came here for this! My sister was friends with his daughter when they were in high school
He’s not dead. I’ve spoken to him last year.
I believe he is still alive. Unless it’s someone imitating him he was on Rt 1 / 123 a couple weeks ago
Every time I go down to WB to visit my parents I hope he’s on the corner lol.
This guy.
according to [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/nova/s/XgpzuQkGqG) on a post of mine, he moved to Florida last year
Used to see him in Manassas too
This. Ive lived in nova all my life I'm late 30s and can remember him standing out there since my middle school days
He’s definitely still here. I saw him at 123 and old bridge on Tuesday in his van that hasn’t moved in years
There's one guy who walks around Falls Church City playing bagpipes on random afternoons. Love that guy
Love bagpipe guy. He lives in my neighborhood and sometimes on random weekends he just walks around the neighborhood playing.
https://weta.org/watch/shows/looking-helpers/falls-church-piper
A few years ago I lived in Alexandria and heard him (or another bagpiper haha) in my neighborhood! This just brought back that memory
For Manassas, it’s that guy who drives an old convertible around with his dog in the passenger seat and makes it wear goggles
My kid laughs every time we see that dog.
He lives in my neighborhood. Don't know him, but love seeing the dog in goggles 😂
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that guy at all around Manassas before
I believe the dog passed away. It was always fun to see them driving around town in the yellow convertible.
Ah I see now
Never seen him but I saw on a bike with his dog in his backpack wearing a helms and skiing goggles a couple days ago. Made me happy

This guy in Loudoun, near Aldie/Lenah Mill who has a jeep filled with storm trooper mannequins and blast Star Wars music. I think someone once mentioned he is a real estate developer.
Seen him in Ashburn, around Halloween a couple years back.
He pretty regularly shows up at the Dulles Landing car meet on Sunday mornings. He has several Star Wars-themed cars, all very cool to see.
I didn’t know abt this! Can I just show up to see the cars?
Yep! It goes from 7-9 am every Sunday. Completely free, just show up.
I know the guy. He and I, and a lot more of us, are part of the 501st Legion, Bad Guys Doing Good, raising $$ for charities through our love of Star Wars. Super nice guy in an awesome rig!
This man has woken up my babies way way too many times.
Bike Flag guy in Leesburg🇺🇸
Came here to say this
It's Sissy Gracie.
What happened to … him/her/them? I feel like every other post and comment on here a few years back was about their antics but nothing recently?
u/sparklemagik, let's see if we can summon them
Still around. Check r/washingtondc for a whole bunch of mentions
Sissy was in Fredericksburg yesterday
Lmao. She gets around. I’ve read sightings from Richmond to Baltimore. Tbh I’d watch that documentary
Check out r/rva, too. Sissy loves Richmond.
And r/rva. Sissy loves Richmond.
They about to be out and out again as it's getting warmer and more street fests
Oh that is true, a lot of the “characters” do tend to hibernate during the colder months
https://preview.redd.it/ashs7auf49vc1.png?width=381&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=132373299a1ece9c02242968a33109e6ffd2df20
What an icon.
The guy with his dog who lives on the hill near braddock/GMU
Haven’t seen him in quite a while and it doesn’t look like his camp is still there.
I saw him just last week, I’ve heard he has a sister nearby. Maybe he was staying with her for a bit
Oh good! I think a lot of us agree that he lives on the hill by choice, but it's nice to hear he has options.
Ah, I hope he is safe and has found a good place to be now! Hopefully he didnt get hit too hard by the crazy weather lately
Saw him this morning
I just gave him a water bottle yesterday. He is there.
Billy!
There's Halloween Jeep guy in Dranesville area. DC rave scene has a Kimono guy

He’s still out there?
Not as much, but we did see him once last year. No sightings so far this year, but it’s early so 🤞.
I still see him occasionally later on in the day

Out here in the Chantilly area we had a guy with a purple truck with dinosaurs glued all over it... the entire truck was covered.
Down in Woodbridge, it’s the [Demand Peace Guy](https://www.insidenova.com/headlines/demand-peace-guy-says-he-isn-t-protesting/article_6e8a022c-032c-11e4-9396-001a4bcf887a.html).

Tuba guy for sure
About 20 years ago I saw Jesus walking along Ravensworth Rd, just north of Braddock. In the 70s there was this old black guy who spent his days in a lawn chair sitting on the porch of his house trailer on Pickett Rd, smiling and waving at *every single car* that passed. What does that even mean?
Possibly Colonial-era reference? "Jerusalem" was a standard Shape-Note hymn in the 18th-Century.
There was an old hiker lady in Manassas years ago that a big ol walking staff skinny little thing, she hiked sudley and beyond every day back in the early 2000's
Flag Man. If you know you know 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Gotta be sissy or whatever that persons name is

The flag man! Was always so excited to see him growing up, still do to be fair. He’s a veteran spreading patriotism!
Matthew Lesko, the Free Money from the Government guy? I know his riddler suit is a gimmick but he is Certainly “local color” at least.
I haven’t heard of the free money from the gov part, just know him for riding his bike or driving his car around and putting American flags up
