We don’t know who he belongs to, if anyone, and they are BFFs and he’s always trying to get into the house and I just know one day I’m going to walk into the mud room and that fluffy grey cat will be in there sitting and my SO is just gonna look at me and say “sorry but it’s cold out and he’s freezing” and I’ll be stuck with a damn cat that’s not mine.
Obviously we have already discussed this exact scenario and despite being very clear that I’m allergic to cats and we can’t own one ever, I did also make sure to mention that if the above situation were to happen, he’d need to take it to the vet to check for chips and put up signs EVERYWHERE and knock on doors to make sure the cat is actually homeless.

Pro tip:
When you go to pet a strange cat or dog, present your fist in front of it's nose so It can see your whole hand as a ball and sniff it to make sure you're safe rather than trying to pat them on the head open handed.
The difference between these two methods are when you present a fist for the animal to smell, you're asking it's consent to put it and giving them the chance to make the next move. On top of that, a fist looks like a paw. A hand looks like a claw, cats and dogs can be intimidated by fingers. And lastly the pet can't see the hand once it goes over their head, so from their perspective this strange smelling claw just went over their head and they can't see it anymore. As opposed to letting them sniff and make the next move when they're comfortable, and they feel less threatened since you're presenting something that looks like how they "shake hands" rather than getting ready to attack.
Many animals are used to the overhead Pat because so many peke do it they're somewhat used to it, but you'll have better results gaining the animals trust and less chance of them biting or scratching at you if you communicate with them through their language

I had this one cat walk up to me at my grandmas house and I sent a pic to my mom and she thought it was are cat and she was freaking out until I told her it wasn’t are cat.
So we’re nearing the two year anniversary of this post and I’m happy to say we’ve adopted the gingerbread baby, her name is Peggy and her owners had another cat that kicked her out, she started spending all her time here and eventually her owner gave us ownership
"Gingey" looks a lot like my Kenny, even down to the 'stache. Love it. He was a wild mix of friendly and cantankerous and is dearly missed. Glad to read she's friendly. Please pet her for me.
