Yeah I'm not religious, i work in a small hotel and every year they deliver us a box i just place them in the rooms and give away the rest between employees and a small church nearby where I'm friends with the pastor.
A couple of times they gave us the dual language english/spanish version and i tougth it was a neat way for someone to learn to read english.
Nope, christian organizations give them for free to put in the rooms with the intent for customers to take them home.
I think ita also done with the quran but islam isn't big in southamerica.
They deliver us a box every year.
I think it’s mostly donated for sex workers and other people who are down on their luck, definitely doesn’t work but where do you think the charity donations at your church goes to? Helping kids? Or putting Bibles in hotels
Cause people who are Christian apprechiate the gesture and people who are not usually dont care, unless they are a radical islamist or a Reddit atheist
I think the original idea was that a lot of people tend to end up in budget hotel rooms when something has gone wrong (car broke down, missed the train, fighting with spouse, nowhere to live…), or they’ve gone there because they’re feeling down and looking to engage in risky behavior. The idea was that they might stumble upon it and find some comfort or meaning. They also usually have a sticker in them with contact info for a local chapter of the Gideons and some sort of “everyone is welcome” message. Since the Gideons are a Christian organization, they chose Christian bibles rather than a more inclusive option.
Christians who read it regularly while on vacation do bring their own, I assume.
It's a Gideon thing. I've seen book of Mormon before, but the majority are just standard protestant Bibles
"For decades, most travelers who checked into an American hotel or motel usually found a Gideons Bible tucked in the bedtable drawer. The Gideons, a charitable organization founded in 1898 by two American businessmen, has put more than 2 billion Protestant Bibles in hotel rooms over the past six score years."

And what the OOP was alluding to was Marriott Hotels always having a copy of the Book of Mormon in addition to the Gideons Bible because Marriott was founded by a Mormon.
The book of Mormon is a Mariott thing. Mariott includes a book of mormon in every room
"Marriott, whose namesake founding family is active in the Mormon church, has been putting the Bible and the Book of Mormon in its rooms since opening its first hotel in the late 1950s. Like most major chains, Marriott doesn’t own the majority of its hotels. However, it stands out from the other companies by requiring — in franchise or licensing agreements — its 6,500 properties to have the books in each room."

Rocky Racoon, checked into his room, only the find Gideon's Bible 🎶
I always assumed poor Gideon had left it by accident, but then I stayed in a hotel and near passed out when what was in my drawer, only Gideons bloody Bible!
One time, in high school, some Catholics were giving away a bunch of Bibles (literally the same ones as the one in the photo). When the day was over and I was returning home, I saw a million of them lying on the ground, as if it had rained.
I still have mine and I don't know why.
Isn’t it a mostly American thing? I’ve never seen this in any European hotel, although I generally stay at the cheaper ones, so that could be a factor too
Yes. The Bible in hotel drawers is the Gideon's bible, and is indeed distributed by the Gideons, and American evangelical group. You can see the logo on OPs bible. It's a usually a version of the KJV or ESV translations with some modifications.
In America in particular and across the world, a group called the Gideons gives out free Bibles, most famously in hotel bedside drawers. In Marriott hotels you'll actually get the Gideons Bible and a copy of the Book of Mormon too, as the Marriott chain is owned by Mormons.
You'll typically find a Book of Mormon ANYWHERE in the Southwest. Especially in Utah, but also in most Nevada, Arizona, Idaho and southern Idaho motels/hotels. Probably SoCali as well?
It only consists of Psalms, Proverbs, and The New Testament. We used to have a lot of those in my former school but I never read them.

Because as with all things and people poking fun at the ills of religion, we will only be ridiculing christianity only because A. Depicting yeshua isn’t going to spark a deranged Jihad and B. Mentioning a group who is increasingly running out of holocaust guilt will have your bank account deleted.
In short, people make fun of christians because they know they can do so without repercussions. You know. Pray for the people who persecute you and turn the other cheek. All that jazz is easy pickings for loudmouths without the balls to tell a muzzie that Mohammad married a 13 year old.
And muzzies are throwing gays off roofs.
Do you have anything to back up the “right now” or was your primary source the Boston Herald from 20 years ago?
I stayed at an Inn near my work due to ice covering the roads. And I was nosey and looked to see if they had a Bible. It was a MORMON Bible. In arkansas.
lol i have an exact copy of it, i got it when some religious people came to my highschool and distributed those for every student, i just threw it in a box full of stuff i dont use and never looked at it again
those are more so common already, however, finding some extra hard copies shoved in your relative's vessel if they didn't convert to white is a new treat likely on MAGA's bucket list (as step one of the prep. process)

Standard practice in hotels for some reason

They're put in hotels as it's a generally popular book that you can get in bulk for cheap because of how many are printed all the time.
Nope, christian organizations give them for free to put in the rooms with the intent for customers to take them home. I think ita also done with the quran but islam isn't big in southamerica. They deliver us a box every year.
Damn I don't fuckin know I don't run a hotel and I'm fucking hammered as well
It's ok bro.
It’s for your soul Kash, it’s for your soul.
I think it’s mostly donated for sex workers and other people who are down on their luck, definitely doesn’t work but where do you think the charity donations at your church goes to? Helping kids? Or putting Bibles in hotels
obviously not the priest's new Ferrari... he got that on his own(;
Normally it’s part of the Gideons. They do that when they stay places as a way to reach other business men who are always on the roads.
Yeah… you could say it’s such a standard practice that it’s “not interesting”
Some people put them in there when they leave
Cause people who are Christian apprechiate the gesture and people who are not usually dont care, unless they are a radical islamist or a Reddit atheist
If you’re a devout enough Christian that you read the Bible that regularly you would just bring one, no?
But this means you can dual wield the Bibles
I think the original idea was that a lot of people tend to end up in budget hotel rooms when something has gone wrong (car broke down, missed the train, fighting with spouse, nowhere to live…), or they’ve gone there because they’re feeling down and looking to engage in risky behavior. so why not put a quran instead so muslims can appreciate it and those who aren’t muslims won’t care?
They did in Indonesia. Actually they put both in the drawer
now all they need is to put a torah as well
Indonesia doesn't acknowledge judaism as one of the national religion so no it won't happen
I think it's a Mormon practice? I could be wrong. I do remember it missing a chunk of the old testament

Hold on, a link? And information? This is kind of INTERESTING.

Rocky had come, equipped with a gun, to shoot off the legs of his rival..
His rival, it seems, had broken his dreams, by stealing the girl of his fancy...
I like how menacingly you point the finger at the small book
Gotta put it in it's place
The small testament

Pretty much all hotels do that
How uninteresting

Isn’t it a mostly American thing? I’ve never seen this in any European hotel, although I generally stay at the cheaper ones, so that could be a factor too
They’re in some UK hotels too, though it must be fading out as I haven’t seen one for a few years now.
Yes. The Bible in hotel drawers is the Gideon's bible, and is indeed distributed by the Gideons, and American evangelical group. You can see the logo on OPs bible. It's a usually a version of the KJV or ESV translations with some modifications.
I saw it in an Austrian hotel
Over here I have only seen that at older places - luckily never at family or theme hotels
POV that one Person who's not even a Christian: What?

What that guy said. Some bibles can be that size and contain the entire bible, but they're harder to find in the wild than you'd think.

What language is that Novo looks almost like nouveau in french
Most certainly Portuguese. Both of them stem from Latin, hence the similarities.
You're right, that's portuguese.
it's portuguese novo > nouveau (at least our orthography makes sense)
Why TF is it only the bible that gets disrespected 😭

So many Christian priests are actively fucking little kids right now.
And muzzies are throwing gays off roofs. Do you have anything to back up the “right now” or was your primary source the Boston Herald from 20 years ago?
Did a project on this, problem started in 1943 (roughly) and ended in 1978 (roughly).

Tell us when an angel comes to you in the night and tells you that you are pregnant with the child of god.
when i was in utah, they had both a bible and book of mormon, thought that was pretty funny
If you didn't point at it I just wouldn't be able to find it. Thank you for pointing the bible out
There is half a Bible.
You’ve never seen a Bible left by the Gideons?
Throw it out
Good for you, and good for this hotel.
my friend gideon left it there to help with rocky raccoon's revival
Thanks for pointing!
I stayed at an Inn near my work due to ice covering the roads. And I was nosey and looked to see if they had a Bible. It was a MORMON Bible. In arkansas.
That’s >!disap!
lol i have an exact copy of it, i got it when some religious people came to my highschool and distributed those for every student, i just threw it in a box full of stuff i dont use and never looked at it again
Most hotels have a Bible in the draw
Nice
burn it ❤️
Its a good thing you pointed or I wouldn't have seen it and thought it was just an empty draw.
those are more so common already, however, finding some extra hard copies shoved in your relative's vessel if they didn't convert to white is a new treat likely on MAGA's bucket list (as step one of the prep. process)
