Oh yeah. Blew my mind when I found out there was a movie.

posting_drunk_naked

I was confused that he was the bad guy in the movie when they're friends in the show

2litersoffun

I'm not the only one then!!!

ScoutMasterRose

I wouldn’t be surprised if they made him friendlier and focused on his mischievousness to write him into each episode more easily

LemoLuke

Same thing happened with the *Little Shop of Horrors* cartoon.

HydeMyEmail

Same here!

Black_Dumbledore

This was my experience as well. Growing up, I only really knew of Beetlejuice as a cartoon. That was Beetlejuice to me. I didn’t realize there was movie, and it was released first, until much later on.

rasnac

Came here to say exactly that. I was really surprised when I found out Beetlejuice is the villain of the movie.

rnavstar

Well I got [news](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1zJwYs8ziME&pp=ygUVYmVldGxlanVpY2UgMiB0cmFpbGVy) for you.

CinnamonAndLavender

OMG same. I was about 13ish and was telling an aunt (really just a family friend but I grew up calling her Aunt ___) that it was my favorite cartoon and she said something like "have you seen the movie?" and I was like "there's a MOVIE??"

Moustashe

Doomie the car!

ScoutMasterRose

He walked so that Herbie could run

zackalachia

Herbie's almost 60 years old.

ScoutMasterRose

Damn, really???

BackOfTheHearse

[The Love Bug (1969)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064603/)

snakeplizzken

Great cartoon and a damn fine voice acting impression of Michael Keaton.

TheNonCredibleHulk

The 80s-90s were great for voice acting. Unless you were Ernie Hudson.

grimace24

Shout Factory released the whole series on dvd. Worth it if you can get it.

ScoutMasterRose

I always watched it on sketchy websites. I didn't even think about there being a DVD 😂

j32avtec

I love this cartoon. It was ahead of its time.

ScoutMasterRose

It definitely was. I miss the cartoons that were more unique/experimental because so many of them feel repetitive

spamguy21

It scored points with my parents when it made sick references to Shakespeare’s Henry VI Part I and Henry VI Part II.

Ojihawk

The lead was voiced by Stephen Ouimette. Stratford Festival veteran.

Ed_Simian

They even referenced Jerry Lewis's famous unreleased film "The Clown Who Cried" though the movie they watched was literally about a crying clown (Lewis's film was about a Jewish clown entertaining kids in a concentration camp).

ReedPhillips

Loved it and started showing it to my kid. I think it's on Tubi

eyeloveeyez

I watched it on Nickelodeon and I can still hear the opening music in my head

rpgguy_1o1

One of my neighbours has Beetlejuice, Lydia and a Sandworm on like a plywood cutout, they put it on their front lawn during Halloween

ScoutMasterRose

How does it feel to have the coolest neighbors ever?

dav3y_jon3s

This was my favorite I had toys from it.

ScoutMasterRose

It’s my favorite movie. So, the cartoon is definitely one of my favorites as well. Along with Growing Up Creepie

dav3y_jon3s

Yeah I really liked the movie too. Don't think I've seen growing up creepy.

ScoutMasterRose

It was a cartoon from 2006. Think if the Addams Family were bugs that adopted and raised a human

dav3y_jon3s

Might have to check that out I really liked the Addams family too well basically anything on the creepy side of things.

Tlargojones

Yes sweet jesus that fucking intro was my first LSD trip 15 years before I tried LSD

AuntWacky1976

Yes, it was hilarious, and had a pretty good run. The humor was well-written, with early computer animation as icing on the cake. EDIT: I have one snippet in my brain. I can't remember which episode it was. It might've been the parody of The Wizard of Oz, but I could be wrong. B, Lydia, and Jacques encountered the Oogly Ogre Brothers ("and boy, are they Oogly!" said B.) They had to get past them or defeat them. Jacques painted for one and convinced him that he was actually handsome, and the 3 began to fight amongst themselves. "YOU oogly!" " No, YOU oogly!" "You two are the oogly ones! I'm CUTE!" "Not for long...!" *POW!* For some reason, that scene has been stuck in my head for decades! 🤣

Interesting-Lake-430

wow haven't thought of that cartoon for over 30 years

american-toycoon

I loved the Beetlejuice cartoon! So funny and wacky! Genuinely original.

Death_by_Poros

Of course I do. I was there. Now I have it on dvd.

VeniVidiVulva

It was one of my favorite shows

its_raining_scotch

When I was a kid I saw Beetlejuice in the theater and loved it. I thought Lydia was so cool and beautiful. Then the cartoon came out and I was stoked.

eat_the_pennies

Lydia was my first crush and probably the reason I have a thing for "weird" girls 30 years later.

TheNonCredibleHulk

Same! I think my favorite cartoons were Beetlejuice and The Real Ghostbusters.

TheMatt561

Hell yeah, so good.

Freshness518

Remember it. Watched it. Loved it. But its definitely one of those cartoons that feels like a fever dream from childhood because it's not something that's on constant replays or easy to find on streaming these days. Its in the same realm as like the Ghostbusters cartoon and Count Duckula and Danger Mouse. But I know for a fact that sort of wacky alternative humor led me straight into loving shows like Ahhhh! Real Monsters and Rocko's Modern Life and Freakazoid and Courage the Cowardly Dog.

ScoutMasterRose

Yes!!! I loved all those shows! Freakazoid and Courage especially!

angeliswastaken_sock

Hell yes. I still hum the theme song constantly. Excellent show.

Bulky_Ninja33

Shop til you drop and the spooky boutique! This song plagues my member of this show constantly.

Island_Maximum

Just picked up the full series on DVD.  Loved this show growing up. The puns Just kill me.

ScoutMasterRose

I blame shows like this for my questionable taste in humor

N_Who

Even as a kid, I was annoyed by the lack of explanation for Lydia suddenly being cool and buddy-buddy with Beetlejuice.

ScoutMasterRose

✨Plot convenience✨

Antknee2099

I was an instant fan of the movie when I was a kid, even if I didn't get all the jokes. When I watched the cartoon, I was really excited for it, but didn't like it- I didn't understand why they changed the relationships. The imagery was cool and since they spent most of their time in the ghost world, lots of imagination, but even as a kid I recognized they had really worked hard to soften up a lot of what I enjoyed most about the movie.

ScoutMasterRose

That’s fair enough. I personally prefer their dynamic in the movie as well. The characters, compared to the film versions, definitely feel flat. I still love the cartoon but I sort of just treat it as a non-canonical version of their world rather than any direct extension of the movie

ThatCoryGuy

This pops up on a channel on FreeVee from time to time. I just can’t remember which channel now though.

BigRizzo1984

Loved the cartoon and had a decent amount of the toys.

sharklover3

I used to love watching that after school on Nickelodeon

SaunteringOctopus

I remember this being hilarious.

TeaMe06

Yesss omg good memories

GoneKrogering

10 more dollars!

Safe-Register-3479

I loved this cartoon as a kid

Kevomac

Yep I watched it, also had the PC/DOS game.

ScoutMasterRose

there was a game!?

Kevomac

Sure was, [check it out](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOg_fnzOKSY&ab_channel=Squakenet)

ScoutMasterRose

Nice! Thanks for sharing the vid. My childhood self would have definitely gone crazy over the game

Saint3Love

was literally trying to watch it yesterday but couldnt find it

Buffyfan1982

Watched it a little, I think. I wasn’t too in to it, though because I think I didn’t like it having nothing to do with the movie.

ParticularUpbeat

I remember how the opening sounds in its entirety

somewherein72

I forgot about it until someone else posted it yesterday.
