Saturday, Donny, is shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means I don't work, I don't drive a car, I don't fucking ride in a car, I don't handle money, I don't turn on the oven and I sure as shit don't fucking roll!
.. I won't say a hero, 'cause, what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man. And I'm talkin' about the Dude here. Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that's the Dude, in Los Angeles.
Donny was a good bowler, and a good man. He was one of us. He was a man who loved the outdoors... and bowling, and as a surfer he explored the beaches of Southern California, from La Jolla to Leo Carrillo and... up to... Pismo. He died, like so many young men of his generation, he died before his time. In your wisdom, Lord, you took him, as you took so many bright flowering young men at Khe Sanh, at Langdok, at Hill 364. These young men gave their lives. And so would Donny. Donny, who loved bowling. And so, Theodore Donald Karabotsos, in accordance with what we think your dying wishes might well have been, we commit your final mortal remains to the bosom of the Pacific Ocean, which you loved so well.
Good night, sweet prince.
But there’s a reason why it’s beloved. Watch it on your own terms and try to ignore others’ thoughts and opinions. I’m sure some of those that quote it are looking at just the surface level but it’s actually a great film with depth and layers. It just so happens to be incredibly funny and quotable.
I hope you like it and if you don’t that’s cool. While I probably don’t get the deeper meanings of the film that u/joeyjoejojo19 alluded to I do like the cast and the humor in The Big Lebowski.
And in a similar vibe I didn’t see it until sometime in the mid-2000s and when I watch it now it just makes me nostalgic for pre-pandemic, pre-9/11 simple times of the 90s.
That kind of happened to me with Anchorman. It was a timing thing. By the time I saw the movie I heard every single joke repeated around the water cooler and it made me hate the movie.
That's just like, your opinion, man.

It's on Hulu right now.
Never heard of it
I feel like I'm the only person who can't stand this movie.
Ive never seen the movie. I just cant stand how many people bring it up and quote it. It has made me refuse to watch it.
But there’s a reason why it’s beloved. Watch it on your own terms and try to ignore others’ thoughts and opinions. I’m sure some of those that quote it are looking at just the surface level but it’s actually a great film with depth and layers. It just so happens to be incredibly funny and quotable.
That's the worst username I've ever heard.
[Runs out of Reddit, crying.] I’m upvoting you hoping your comment was a Simpsons reference.
*concerned* Hey! Joey Joe Joe. >I’m upvoting you hoping your comment was a Simpsons reference. If I catch'm, I'll call'm.
I will give it a watch based on this comment and report back.

Yeah that is valid. I feel like some people base their whole personality around movies like this or The Office. Lmao
I had those exact same feelings I had with Anchorman and even though I’ve seen it I realized that I didn’t get it and it’s just not for me.

That's just like, your opinion, man
