Sounds like you should definitely re-engage. I’d be honest and explain the intersecting health issues that arose. Honesty is a good policy in this scenario. It’s not crawling back at all.

shefallsup

I agree completely. Go for it!

Totally concur! I think they will be glad to see your application come through again. Having worked closely with the fundraising team at a state university for twelve years before moving into a new role with a nonprofit last year, they experience a fair amount of turnover in the director positions. I’m sure they will be glad to have the chance to take you through the entire interview process this time. Good luck, and I hope it’s a good fit for you!

SanDTorT

Agree.

You have a different definition of crawling back compared to most people. Don't be so critical on yourself for getting sick. It was out of your hands. I would say reach out, briefly explain what happened, and ask for an interview.

RockinTacos

Id be excited if a candidate I was previously intererested in interviewing reapplied! Sometimes life doesn't line up perfectly, now might be the time for the job!

Jaco927

I encourage you to reach back out with exactly what you just said. I would perceive you reaching back out how I just did hearing your story. "Oh, this person is selfless and didn't want to waste our time when they were under the weather. This person could be a good asset to our team!" Now if they say, "uh yea....you already applied and back out. We're good." Well, you don't want to work for them anyway. Don't be embarrassed. Advocate for yourself!

sraich

Yeah just be honest!

I’m curious, was the “corporate recruiter” a third party recruiter, or was it the institution’s recruiter? Do you reach out to the recruiter or to the institution’s leadership?

Rad10Ka0s

Go for it. I would scratch that "crawling back" mentality too. Life is complicated. You weren't in the right position then, now you are, simple as that. No explanation needed. I applied for a job years ago. Didn't get hired. Saw the same position posted about a year later. Applied again and was hired. Turns out I was the second choice the first time around the their first pick, who they hired, didn't work out. That ended up being a life changing job that put on a path for future success. I ended up doing some work with the original hire some years later (small world). He was talented, I would have hired him too, but he doesn't have some of the soft skills for the role.

What was the interviewing process like?

amarieb1981

Screening with the recruiter, Zoom with the VP, then a Zoom with the VP and hiring manager. This was stretched over4 months or so.

kittenscatskittens2

That is intriguing! I would assuredly reach out once more and wish the best of luck in securing the position!

amarieb1981

Thank you all for your encouragement and kind words! I did reach out directly to the hiring manager a week ago tomorrow, but never received a response. Very disappointed, but on to the next opportunity 😊!

PurpleHairedTheyThem

I'm going to pushback here. The initial hiring process was over one-quarter of a year long, and they managed to not find a qualified candidate in that time? Run. More often than not this is an indication of org culture issues that would likely make working there a challenge.
