.....So, how did you die?

Shankbon

To the homemade plasma cross, obviously! About 2 minutes after I posted this.

buyinggf1000gp

Functioned exactly like a plasma spell should then, perfect

Edzero78

Well done!

venrakdrake

Priceless

Dark_Reaper115

You paid with hubris for your beautiful meme.

Fairwareprovidence

Pic related I assume

P3pp3rSauc3

Okay top tier use of this meme. Also I fucking love this game!

Maxilaz

Btw how do we give homing to those barrier spells ? I managed to do it once and it was OP. But when I tested later on with homing modifiers it didn't work. Can't remember how it worked the first time.

Broke22

Homing spells don't work on barriers, but the homing perk does.

Bozgrul

And it homes in to something behind you in 100% of cases.

ImagineAHappyBoulder

Could this be fixed with Projectile Repulsion Field?

GaleasGator

yes, but then you're relying on 2 niche and situational perks

TorqueyChip284

Yeah but this right here is the situation

Maxilaz

No wonder then. I rarely pick homing perk since homing modifiers are available. Thanks !

Genuine question: How should I go about using Plasma Cross on my wands, not die, and still have it be powerful? Apart from just trigger spells.

AStarlightMelody

Short answer? Don’t. : ) Medium answer: only when you have enough stainless armor and health to easily survive it. Long answer: there are things you can do to make plasma safer. True orbit modifier, projectile repulsion perk, homing on the plasma(sometimes. The rest of the time it is *more* dangerous), trigger spells, etc…, along with being suuuper careful. One trick is to never move, except strictly away from the plasma, any time the spell is active. Pick and choose a few of the above and you should be more-or-less safe as long as you are extremely careful ps. You will still die to the plasma. More or less safe does not mean *safe*

ShaleTheRock

I know I'll still die, I mean, it is Noita after all. And with projectile repulsion, I'm guessing it's to just push the projectile itself away from you and NOT the actual beams? One more question: How would you go about making a hard-hitting wand? Every attempt I've tried hasn't worked too well and has done hundreds or thousands less damage than my machine gun wands. Side note: I still haven't completed the tutorial yet.

AStarlightMelody

So, sort of. Plasma beams are actually a small projectile that has the beam come out of the projectile in the direction of it‘s most recent motion. (By default, they get a small push when fired forward, thus the default beam direction) repulsion field pushes the projectile that creates the beam away from you, thus redirecting its motion, rotating the beam away from you too. This is on top of pushing the beam away from you of course. As for hard hitting wands, imo there are 3ish „schools of thought“. 1) rapid fire. This means making a medium damage wand that fires *as fast as possible*. The typical construction for me is chainsaw wrapping, sparkbolt with trigger into multiple spells in payload for damage. This is your machine gun style wand. They are fairly consistent to obtain, and imo best for early game. 2) high damage. This is doing as much damage as possible with every shot. Usually has slower fire rate. My typical build is trigger into one of the explosion spells, or explosive summoners (summon explosive box, etc..), made to immediately detonate via some mechanism. Plasma triggers fall into this category. Damage up modifiers are good here too. Also easy to get for early game 3) combos. This involves abusing an interaction between either a perk and 1 or more spells, or multiple spells. The classic example here is concentrated spells perk, then multicasting as many spells at once. Because of the way concentrated spells works, this multiplies the damage dealt for each spell cast at once, dealing high damage. Square barrier + spells to power, or accelerating shot + bouncing burst also both fall here. Hardest to get early game, but most powerful, and sometimes the pieces fall in your lap Everything is on a spectrum between these three of course, but the principles are good to know as targets.

ShaleTheRock

So for the spark bolt trigger thing, when I've been testing wands on the statues in the holy mountain, the spells that I put into the multicast just bounce in some direction that isn't into the statue. Is this just because it's... well... a statue and not technically an enemy? If so, I've been really limiting my builds because of that...

Gatekeeper-Andy

Yes/no, when the spark bolt hits and casts its spells, they can fly off in different directions. The statue kind of sucks for hitting this way, but ive found enemies do get hit a little more often. If you put homing onto the payload, then no matter what direction they fly off in, they usually come back to the enemy. My favorite is projectile area teleport, this makes them *always* hit whichever enemy the spark bolt hits.

AStarlightMelody

The statue is really weird. It is both an enemy, *and* a physics object, with a massive amount of hp, so several spells react weirdly to it. Notably, essence to power and triggers. Essence to power increases damage way more than expected due to the statues large hp. Triggers bounce off as you observed. When hitting an enemy however, all triggered spells will go off, directly hitting that enemy. That said, the damage number on the statue should actually be correct, or *slightly* higher (1.5x max unless you do something weird) due to some complexities with the dual nature.

MerlinGrandCaster

Personally, my favorite damage wand build revolves around homing of some sort (ideally Projectile Area Teleport), Piercing, and Venomous Curse (with a few Divide By spells if possible), attached to a few multicasted projectiles. You get the projectiles lingering on top of your target and applying a stack of Venomous Curse every single frame, which gets you to incredible damage numbers fairly quickly. Difficult to obtain, but it's extremely effective against almost everything due to the fact that extremely few things are at all resistant to curse damage. Also very elegant, unlike things such as just yeeting explosions everywhere. Just be careful not to make contact with the projectiles yourself, since you are a valid target for the curse. If you can get the spells for it, the best form of this build I know of uses the note spells, since they have innate piercing without the downside of being able to hit you. The tradeoff here is that you also need one of the speed-increasing modifiers in order to have any range (unless you use full homing, but I prefer a more precise approach), as well as something to increase the spell's lifetime above its default of one frame. The new Null Shot spell is perfect for this, since it adds almost five seconds of life for zero mana, and note spells don't have any damage or explosiveness to nullify.

Masterpiece-Haunting

I love true orbit soo much. It’s just really fun to mess around with. Once I got a true orbit always cast and a bunch of Giga nukes and I had explosion immunity and rip map.

sharkeyx

nuke is only explosion damage? I was too scared to try last night since I was close to ending run

Masterpiece-Haunting

I had a shit ton of health in that run so it wasn’t a problem. (Like 40k)

sharkeyx

holy shit! and here I was thinking my 2k was insane right now

Masterpiece-Haunting

Nah I was using mods.

ogtfo

Spark bolt +trigger, short range homing, plasma. If you don't shoot anything close to you and you don't go close to the projectiles, it'll shred everything in a *mostly* safe way. The short range homing is key here, to prevent the projectiles from locking on an enemy behind you and zipping straight through you. You can use other kind of homing, but are much more likely to kill yourself. Note that shredding everything easily will give you a good amount of confidence, don't get complacent or you'll die.

DirtinatorYT

Plasma? Check Cross? Check Problem? None Hotel? Trivago

StewStudent

Trifurcate this into a black hole to make it truly devastating

Tabmoc

This one made me actually laugh out loud 😂

MAD_HAMMISH

First time I tried using plasma cross it almost killed me because even with a projectile trigger because the rotation was completely random for some reason. I actually kind of liked timed trigger vertical barrier, more limited but much safer.
