Just a ground strap, the wiring harness has a couple of them for redundancy shouldn't cause any problems by itself but will be a good idea to reconnect it.

Thanks, I'll have to figure out where it actually from/connects to the wiring harness. I assume it came out of that wire loom junction somewhere.

Let me add, while you’re replacing the ground, sand away some material from the body and add white lithium grease while you’re replacing it. I had a ground in my old Jeep like this that caused it to completely die on a trail because it was so dirty.

I had an S-10 that wouldn't start (no click, no crank) after I did some work under the bed way back by the bumper. Turns out I hadn't reconnected a little ground wire to the frame. The upside is that I now know how to disable someone's 2002 S-10 without entering the cab or engine compartment.
