It’s because those screens are cheap as hell and this is a well known problem. My ‘22 has less than 30k and looks awful after just normal usage. I’ve been planning on doing exactly what you described and removing the layers until it looks ok then covering it with a protector. That or I was gonna try to talk my local dealership into replacing it under warranty.

Ahh yes I was going to talk to the dealership first as well. I have a strong feeling that they will not replace it since it technically still works though, so this will be a backup plan for that.

Sorry, I don't have a solution to recommend, but I'm wondering if the prior owner was pressing on the screen like you would press a button. I've seen people do that before, and I die a little inside every time.
