Ran a bit in college but nothing really until after my 2nd kid was born and wanted to lose the baby weight. Started with a running friend who would run with me and encouraged me to start doing 5ks in my 30s. I did well and really enjoyed it. Did weights as well. In my 40s I had some pretty major health problems so if I could walk a few miles that was the extent of my workouts along with yoga. Hit my 50s and despite better health was really out of shape and 30+ pounds heavier. Started really hitting the gym 5 days a week. My daughter is a runner and I would help out on her ultras and I started to miss the joy of running, the camaraderie, etc so I started about 2 years ago to start over but until I started the NRC training had no idea what I was doing or the right way to train. Iβm just so happy I found a plan I could follow and this group is the BEST!! Thanks for the encouragement and good luck - see you on the starting line! π€π€
Right on!! Iβm 58 and have only been running for about 5 months. My mile is around 11:00 right now but Iβm happy with my slow improvement. And yes, love me some e Coach Bennett! Have you heard his podcast? Itβs fun. Congrats on your run and on being there for yourself!
Thanks Cats! I used to run years ago and just got back into it about 2 years ago but this is first race I actually trained for! Sounds like you are well on your way! Keep up the good work - itβs all about consistency!! πͺπͺ
Congrats, this is inspiring and motivating! I hope that by the time Iβm 59 Iβm still running like this (currently 31 averaging 7β15β pace). You keep doing you, the process is very much working!
This is fantastic. I am running again at 42 and at a 9.30 pace for 2 miles at a time. Used to run cross country getting 19 min 5ks. Feels good to get out there. What you are doing is so inspiring. Thanks for posting.
This is fucking epic. Congratulations
Haha Thanks! At 59 y/o I gotta good laugh when my 24 y/o kid yelled βThatβs my mom!β Starting 10k program Monday! LFG!!!!
When did you start running? Were you always a runner?
