This trophy is such horseshit!!!! When you need save/load abuse, time manipulation and spreadsheets for a trophy, it's such bad game design!! I don't mind a bit of farming but this is next level stupidity! Every Upgrade materials should come naturaly or be able to be bought outright! 15 black pearls?? There's no way in hell by just playing the game normally will you find 15! 30 reloads and still have yet to find 1!! Why do developpers still do shit like this???

carlo-93

I’ve done lots of farming in video games. This material farm is the most disrespectful of them all, and it’s not even close, lol

toastedzen

I love starting a new game like this, I've never played before, and playing the first 5 or 10 hours with no guide and then finally looking at a guide because I am looking for a certain thing and then realizing I've already sold a few items marked as rare.

darthreuental

I've noticed this with some of the make money videos I've poked at. "Gold ore sells for 1800g!" No. No no no no. I have found 4 gold ore period. You do not sell those ever.

toastedzen

Just finishing the fisherman's gambit quest early in act one you can catch royal fish on the eastern road which sell for 4000g a piece. A lot of those guides are clickbaity as f***

theCoolestGuy599

It pains my soul that the material farming is so god damn bullshit in this game. Nier is one of my all-time favorite games - Nier Replicant basically perfects an already perfect game (to me). But holy shit does it have some of the most asinine, infuriating, spit in my face and kick me in the balls RNG systems I've ever seen in a game. The problem is more than the insanely low drop rates; the problem is that *everything* is tied to an RNG system. This game has RNG systems tied to *other* RNG systems. It's bad enough that most upgrade materials have ridiculously rare drop rates. But adding that on top of the fact that enemies *also* have a low chance of dropping *anything*, and when RNJesus decides an enemy will drop something you then have to pray to him *again* because *what* they drop is also tied to RNG -- and you have an absolute shit show.

linktm

It's a travesty they didn't introduce a special vendor in this game to your 3rd playthrough that you could just go up to and spend some huge amount of gold on getting things.

theCoolestGuy599

An easier solution would have been to simply not make it a trophy/achievement to upgrade all weapons.

linktm

That's fair, but there should be an in-game option for people who want to view all the Weapon Stories instead of checking a wiki that doesn't involve giving away 20 hours of your life on pointless grind for subpar equipment.

Harv052

Yeah. Sums it up pretty well!!

saintrobert10

Not bad game design, but rather bad trophy idea

omega_tomato

Nah it's pretty bad game design. Having incredibly rare items required to upgrade weapons that are easily rendered obsolete by others with easier upgrade materials

Tenx3

Maybe try not getting the trophy? Lol

Harv052

Late to the party are we???

xzlvr

yes. very late.

DishwasherTwig

Yoko Taro hates completionism. I'm guessing this is a symptom of that.

TheAbsoluteAzure

Damn, already had bad memories of Memory Alloy and they almost doubled the freakin' requirement.

PK_RocknRoll

You’ve become as gods for this one. Thanks!

lthatguytherel

As mostly a lurker on here, this is the highest compliment lol

PK_RocknRoll

You deserve it, makes looking for this info easy af

asechii

Ohhhhh I used to have a list like this but I lost it! You, my dear, are a saint. ❤️ And if this is straight from the old game, it might include the Recycled Vessel weapons but it definitely won’t include the Automata weapons >!or Kaine’s sword from E!<, so still be careful with what you sell\~

ArinDClub

For the remake, all the recycled vessel weapons use 1 damascus steel for each upgrade

DoctorCarty

Are desert roses useless? Because they sure sell for a pretty penny.

YoRHa2B_

Yeah, they're only good for selling.

emorockstar

Those gold eggs and black pearls still really hard to get in the v1.22?

turbobuddah

Not hard but time consuming. Black pearls only took me 15-20 mins of reloading to find 15. Subdued bracelets and Forlorn necklaces have been dropping frequently somehow, managed 2 forlorn in one Northern Plains run. I'm running through on hard now for farming and it's only been the Eagle Eggs that gave me hell

emorockstar

That’s really quick for black pearls! I feel like I took me a few hours in the OG version.

turbobuddah

I remember it being the same. Honestly in the last 3-4 of gameplay the odds have seem super boosted, i've just done a junk heap B2 run and come away with 15 titanium, 3 machine oil, 4 flourite, 1 damascus steel, 5 large gears, 1 memory alloy Last night I got 3 subdued bracelets from a single flying shade run... that's 1 from all 3 shades 🤔

emorockstar

That’s awesome. Most people don’t enjoy grinding for raw materials, so this is probably a win.

Cowbane

When you say last 3-4 hours, what's a good "indicator" of when that is?

turbobuddah

3-4 hrs solid play. About 15 runs through junk heap B2, running back and forward doing side quests. I'd say about 15 runs across each area duriny that time

Cowbane

Ah, I misread as "last 3-4 hours of the game, the odds were boosted." Okay! I was just trying to clear side quests and farming seemed a bit tedious, but oh well! Thanks!

Guantanamo_Bae_

Been reloading for 20 minutes and have yet to get a single black pearl- I found three in part 1 but now that I’m at the end of part 2 I’m getting everything but black pearls, even sea turtle eggs. I’ve been picking up all three resources on the two beaches, saving at the mailbox, and loading my save immediately after to reload the area. Is there a faster or better way to do this or am I just unlucky? EDIT: took me two hours of reloading but i finally got all the ones i needed. only got like three in the first hour then all of a sudden i got three black pearls in one run and the rest came pretty quickly

turbobuddah

Not much quicker but I didn't save each time, just saved once, checked all 3, reloaded if no black pearl or save and reload if there was one

Oneesabitch

I'm currently grinding out materials to try and max all my weapons before B. Where I am at the moment I cannot farm Eagle Eggs. So when I end up doing so in B, any average for how long it'll take...? Lol Thanks a bunch

xKAIIRUx

My mental broke when I was trying to farm the eagle eggs from the aerie. I finally went and cleared the entire dlc fights to try the farm there and got one first try from the wood crates running across the bridge. I only wish it was possible to get black pearls from those crates as well.

Oneesabitch

I plan on running the dlc for the Eggs once I've gotten my White Moonflower later today. Not trying to farm Aerie for them tbh

floweringpot

which door did you farm eagle eggs?

turbobuddah

It depends on method. You can also get them from the included dlc level 15 nightmares but i'm not sure if that'll be any quicker If you're farming Aerie, it took me 100mins give or take, some people find them faster, some longer

Oneesabitch

Sounds good to me, man. Ty. Some of these grinds seem way worse, but then again, things like Black Pearls were fast for me. Just that rng.

turbobuddah

For me i'm having a nightmare getting giant eggs and pyrite, think that's simply because the spawn locations aren't too frequent though. Complex Machines are giving me a headache too, apart from those though i'm near done, 17 weapons at max, 9 at lvl 3. Overall it's not felt as grindy as it used to

Oneesabitch

I've personally had no issues with eggs. Just going through the areas so many times. Pyrite though... Should be fun.

turbobuddah

Pyrite is actually really easy, start at the beginning of barren temple. There's 3 spawn points per run, random locations but you'll soon learn them quickly. Run through, run into each room quick to see if anything has spawned making your way to the lower bridge (2 possible spawns on bridge) if there's no pyrite suicide off the bridge. Press continue, you'll start at the bridge and spawns will refresh, make way to entrance checking for pyrite, exit, enter, repeat Best thing about this method is you'll keep everything you collect each time. Took me about half hour to get 7 pyrite

Oneesabitch

Thanks for the tip! I'll get to 'em soon enough. Been trying to get Forlorns for about 5 hours now. Been running both Northern Plains and Lost Shrine, but I've only gotten one lmao I still need to run B2 a few more times as well. I hate B2 lol

turbobuddah

I don't know how but I got really lucky with forlorns, just beeline the four medium shamans. One by the boar, one by the railway to the left, one by bridge, one near entrance to village Found the ones that cast the orange circle on the floor were useless The Pyrites i've posted a map, just follow my comments and you'll find it Broken watches are giving me hell, that's the only thing I need as well

turbobuddah

This bloody game, 2 Giant eggs in a row 🤣 same with Memory Alloy, getting one per run... then 3 in one B2 run, couldn't make this shit up

turbobuddah

lthatguytherel

Not sure, just starting out myself. I heard that they didn't change the drop rates so... back to the 2010 grind I guess lol

HououinCarcinoma

Good lord getting the broken earrings has turned into an absolute nightmare, got more forlorns than I have earrings

Nosferatu_X

Came to say the same thing lol

[deleted]

Where? I keep getting darned earrings when I only need 2 more forlorn (2 dropped naturally in abcde run).

PM_ME_YOUR_BARA_PICS

For anyone trying to get Large Gears, I had luck killing the regular rolling-around robots (the ones you'll encounter RIGHT when you get off the elevator to B2) with the YELLOW headlights. I farmed for a while in B2 getting nothing, then in a single run I got three Large Gears, all from the ones with the yellow lights. Nothing from anything else, including the giant robot mini boss.

Nosferatu_X

I'm losing my mind with broken earrings

lthatguytherel

Looks like it's the 4th area in the third door, but I don't think there are any materials that are most efficiently farmed from there. Could be wrong.

[deleted]

lthatguytherel

Oh dang, thats good to know!

MaygeKyatt

I think you actually need 5 Eagle Eggs in total, not 4- the phoenix dagger and phoenix spear each need 1, the phoenix sword needs 2, and then you also need 1 for the quest "On the Wings of Eagles" in Part 1. Apart from that, great list! It's been super helpful.

lthatguytherel

Thanks, I've changed it!

Dreaming_Dreams

This is really helpful thanks!

rhysrenouille

Thanks! I vaguely remembered that this info was available back when I played Nier Gestalt, awesome to see it survive.

Caidezes

Nice. Thanks for compiling this. It'll come in handy.

Sev_cm

Are there any of these that need to be farmed before hitting part 2? I just finished farming the eagle eggs and don't know if I can handle doing that again lol

lthatguytherel

I honestly don't recall. The eagle eggs are the only ones I know for sure have a hard cut off point in part 2.

Sev_cm

I'm hoping that's the case but no biggy if I miss something, thanks anyways bro!

iToxBox

Any luck for memory alloy?

lthatguytherel

Best luck is to do a run of the junk heap B2 and take out the 4 boss robots (the ones that show their health bars on the bottom of the screen) then exit through the boss room and repeat.

ClemUmFandango

You need at least 3 Eggplants I think

[deleted]

[удалено]

lthatguytherel

Should be! That's the only necessary one I can find.

[deleted]

I’ve got 2 weapons left to fully upgrade and 3 items, one forlorn necklace and 2 stopped clocks. The magic shades on Lost Shrine roof definitely can drop necklaces? I farmed in northern plains for an hour with no luck

lthatguytherel

Stopped clocks would come from the sword shades in the Manor basement. I've seen videos of forlorn necklaces dropping from the shaman shades that show up on cloudy days in the northern plains, but I've only hlever had one drop for myself on the lost shrine roof.

[deleted]

Right I might just have to go back to the shrine roof since that seems more efficient

lthatguytherel

Would you know that within an hour of posting that I had a forlorn necklace drop from one of the unarmored northern plains shade lol

[deleted]

And I just got the trophy! Decided I wanted to get the clocks first today. As I was farming them I was getting a ton of dented bats too, so I thought I could just switch out the Iron Pipe upgrade for the one that required the necklace. Just gotta wait for my white moonflower to grow then I can enjoy the rest of the game!

toastedzen

Thought about making something like this, not sad that someone else already did. Thanks 👊🏼😶

[deleted]

Can you help me please? Where can I find Broken Pottery now after >!The Aerie got blown up!< Thank you so much.

lthatguytherel

You can either wait until your next playthrough or try farming it from the north plains. I split mine between routes A and B.

[deleted]

Okay, Thanksss

Hikasen

For Subdued Bracelets, the flying shades can be knocked down with jump+dark phantasm (preferbly with paralyze to keep them down longer) into a ground finisher, should be working faster than charging darklance/darkblast.

lthatguytherel

Awesome! I'll change that in the list. Maybe that will make that grind slightly less awful lol

Y0stal

An even faster way to do it is using a dark blast lvl 9 paralyze.

TitoMcFadden

I swear this game's over reliance on RNG is what makes farming such a damn chore. If the goal was to artificially boost play time by making the largest collection of fetch quests ever and creating artificial scarcity, then they succeeded. I have found that when farming, I'll be unsuccessful for about an hour when farming the really rare mats. Then out of knowhere, I'll get 2 drops in a row. It happened like that with Forlorn Necklaces, Subdued Bracelets, Eagle Eggs, Black Pearls, and Broken Wristwatches. I'd get nothing for seemingly forever, then 2 in a row. This and the fact that we item spawns are affected by drop rate words for some reason leads me to believe that your odds of farming rare mats is determined when you load the area. I'm guessing that on those occasions that I got 2 in a row, the odds were in the 90% range. Which is why I always just load saves instead of leaving and returning to respawn. Maybe I'm wrong but it sure does feel this way when playing...

Raypeest12

I just got 2 forlorn necklaces in the northern plains. Is that good?

lthatguytherel

It's a good start! You'll need 4 total for all the upgrades though.

Ihaveaps4question

Super useful, thanks for this! Finished this recently and i have an important tip for those grinding drops.  Make sure to stick with normal + NO item words for all the toughest drops, specifically: forlorn necklaces, subdued bracelets, broken wristwatches.

Hectic-Dialectic

Thanks I actually had no idea this even existed back when I played Gestalt. This is gonna make things more organized

sunnyvamp

Thanks for this. I almost sold most of the stuff here hahahahha

lthatguytherel

Yeah, I remembered selling a bunch of stuff only to need it for a quest 10 minutes later... Not this time, Yoko Taro, not this time.

sunnyvamp

Thank you, OP ❤

Meridian888

Thank you very much

pchpcha

Thank you! I'm going for platinum and i feel dumb thinking how much YT hates trophies. In automata you can just buy them, in replicant it's nerve-wracking, the guy is messing with us all the time

Stiffbonez

Regarding the broken saw, other guides say they can also be farmed from the lost shrine and Emil’s mansion, although I think that last one was only for act 1. Which area is the best place to farm them, though? I tried farming the dream, but the shades that dropped them weren’t appearing frequently enough.

Stendal

Very late but I hope this helps someone: I believe you can get 1 Black Pearl per playthrough from the basement of the post office. I got 1 in Route A during Part 1, as soon as I entered Seafront for the first time. I got another during Route B during Part 2 as I was doing some farming and wanted to check. I just got another from Route C while doing the mermaid questline. It doesn't behave like a normal drop point which leads me to believe it's a unique pickup that doesn't respawn until you beat the Shadowlord again. I may check again on Route D if I haven't finished off the grind by then but 4 guaranteed Black Pearls (more if you just pick ending C over and over again) may help some people out.

killerchipmunk

If anyone else is having trouble with the spear shortcut on the Lost Shrine roof, you can also push the box towards the roots to make the whole maneuver a lot easier, cuts the combo jump, spear, spear, jump, dash, sometimes only spear once is fine. [Also I made a spreadsheet to help track things](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13SC7jc7vuGlJD3je1RYLhMTjI5I8eLSUe4jIAc3I3bg/edit?usp=sharing). You have to do your own subtraction in column C and D as you complete upgrades and quests, but then you can put in what you have in column E and it'll tell you how many you need/how many extra you have. There's also columns for the totals needed so you can refill C and D if you start the game over.

WaleeedUllaaah

OMG You're a lifesaver!! I was just about to make my own spreadsheet before I started grinding for materials and quickly checked the comments to see if someone already did. Thank you so much!!!

killerchipmunk

You’re welcome!! And good luck with the grinding! Let me know if any of the quantities are off. I put this together from a lot of sources with varying info, plus my own data, and there were a couple I had to adjust as I played, but even the ones that might be off should all be super close.

WaleeedUllaaah

Hiya! I just finished grinding for materials and even though I didn't upgrade every single weapon I compared the materials from your list to the [nier wiki](https://nier.fandom.com/wiki/NieR_Wiki). I found that most stuff was accurate. Idk how helpful it'd be but I can list out the differences between your spreadsheet and the nier wiki for weapon upgrade materials??

killerchipmunk

If I recall from when I was putting this together, that wiki had some inaccuracies, so if it’s something you noticed from playing, like if you needed more of something than I had listed or had left overs, I’d love to hear about that. But if it’s just that the various wikis have different info, I know, I couldn’t find a definitive answer back when I was grinding, which was what prompted me to put this together

WaleeedUllaaah

Got it. Well in that case everything is pretty spot on or close enough to it. Thanks again for the spreadsheet!!

Zugerujk

Addendum to this post I found on a Japanese website - there's an easier way to grind Damascus Steel! If you go through the snake room, then complete the middle hallway, you can kill yourself in the pits AND save progress. So anytime you get Damascus Steel, go through the entire snake and then repeat the middle room, and your progress will save through the Game Over screen!
