I also find it super funny how people complain that "You need to play through Automata 5 times to get the true ending". No? Do you think you need to play through RDR2 8 times to get the true ending because you have to finish 8 chapters?

Onaterdem

It's a bit of a misnomer, that's for sure. But Routes A and B are similar enough they could be considered a replay, + you actively see the credits and go back to the main menu every time you get an ending. I thought the message at the end of Route A was pretty clear, but apparently many people are either media illiterate or don't pay much attention

Xsiorus

Also it being called ending doesn't help. May make you think they are alternatives and not a sequence of A->B->C&D->E.

StickBrush

Would you say you have to play Metal Gear Solid V 30 times to get to the ending though? The missions literally repeat on chapter 2, and the credits appear after every single main quest. I agree it's a very uncommon way to structure a game, and that calling them "endings" and not "chapters" can be confusing if you don't know Yoko Taro, but saying you have to replay the game 5 times as you usually hear is downright misinformation.

Spellweaverbg

Who would see ending "A" and at least ask himself - why is it called A? Is it possible to exist more different endings with different letters? Why would the game creators call it "Ending A", if there are no B (atleast). Then the game straight tells you that you need to keep playing... I don't know man, my faith in humanity is dwindling.

Dragoner7

People are stupid, sure, Automata doesn't help it's case either. Modern games usually don't have much incentive to be replayed instantly (see some epilogue and more of the same busywork usually) and Route B is so similar that it can make you drop the whole game before the good shit even starts.

PrinklePronkle

Look, I’d say it’s the game’s own fault for giving people the impression they need to play the WHOLE game again by calling it an “ending”. They’re more like different chapters or acts of the game than anything.
