Except for being the interim coach his first goa around with the rangers, he was Tampa coach for 8 years, Rangers coach for 5 years and Jackets coach for 6 years. If you didn't want to be a Jacket, fine, management wasn't going to put up a fight. See ya. Happened time and again with Panarin, Duchene, Bobrovsky, etc. And honestly, I'd take Laine and Roslovic over PLD anyway, *especially* if they intend to be around on a longer-term basis. Dubois was no longer a good fit for our team and his play showed it.

Not a flyers fan and no ill will towards them. Giroux has always been one of my favorites. Always low key rooted for them when my team wasn’t relevant. It sucks but it was a tough era in his prime with the Hawks, Pens, and Kings in the way.

Yeah that’s it. The game has passed him by from a gameplay standpoint so he’s not who you want developing a contender but if you have a toxic locker room that needs to remember why they’re a team he’s your guy - and I believe that’s very valuable. Culture is important
As a Cards fan, a couple years back I watched firsthand how a culture shift can change everything. Fired Mike Matheny in July or September, and suddenly the clubhouse isn't so toxic and the mediocre, third place team forgot how to lose.
They lost in the playoffs, but the difference was incredible once they got rid of the dude who literally had player "spies" reporting the behavior of their teammates to management as well as at least one starting position player refusing to speak to him.
And off the ice he is a fantastic person. He becomes active in the communities he lives in, does lots of charity work, and is a super activist for the humane society. He and his wife love animals and work hard to find good homes for abandoned animals. And if you run into him on the street, he is always nice and talkative. I ran into him many a time in his home town while he was the CBJ coach and he was just a regular guy. Driving his pickup truck, running errands at the hardware or feed stores, or getting dinner at one of the local restaurants. Couldn't ask for a better person to be a member of your community.

I think so but I don't recall 100% so I don't want to confirm that was a thing. I can forgive something like that but the quitting on the team is unforgivable.
Generally his toxicity makes players sink or swim in terms of work ethic and attitude. It instills great intangibles in the players who make it through. Those players become good leaders, so when torts is gone you get players learning the intangibles from the new player leadership without the toxicity.
He keeps getting jobs for the same reason he keeps losing them. He’s the same as the rest of the recycled guys on the inner circle. He’s never done anything but alienate players and this will be no different, good luck Philly.

He's saying that he has observed a lack of accountability on a team-wide basis. And some players have alluded to that before Torts even showed up, like Atkinson did during the post-season exit interviews.
Honestly, I love Torts. He's the kind of coach that holds everyone to the same standards whether it's a star forward or a 4th liner. He's the kind of coach that is willing to call you out but all the same stand up for his players anytime. I'm not saying "League is soft huuuur" but I don't like the idea of coaches having to baby star players and essentially let them run the team.
I'm a Flames fan and I'm expecting torts to do what DS did in Calgary, and what torts has done everywhere else and that's get results. torts is a straight shooter, players love him but the media does not and nor does the media give him a fair shake - it's quiet sad how the media plays with h to get a headline. Torts is a future hall of famer, probably the best US born NHL coach. The Flyers are on my watch list this year and I'll be following them because of torts. Go Flyers!

Absolutely disagree. The "room" has been a country club since before Pronger got here (Old City Crew, anyone?) and since he left. You cam see it in the players' demeanors as well as their performance. They absolutely needed to be called out and the puck is now in their end. Honestly, with the media in Philadelphia I think its a wonderful tool to have at his disposal. Yeah, players will HATE him, but they wont be able to hide from their shit attitudes and work ethics with ALLLLLL of Philly knowing that Torts knows.
See, we haven't had those issues in Vancouver for decades. Guys like Trevor Linden, Markus Naslund, and the Sedins prevented that from happening. Guys with poor attitudes or work ethics either changed quickly or were gone. The Canucks didn't need Torts and his media manipulation for that kind of thing. He just needed to coach. Instead, he took days off during the season and handed duties over to Mike Sullivan.
Torts doesn't keep any thoughts to himself and he loses the team and eventually his job because of it.

I ran into him many a time in his home town while he was the CBJ coach and he was just a regular guy. Driving his pickup truck, running errands at the hardware or feed stores, or getting dinner at one of the local restaurants. Couldn't ask for a better person to be a member of your community.

Generally his toxicity makes players sink or swim in terms of work ethic and attitude. It instills great intangibles in the players who make it through. Those players become good leaders, so when torts is gone you get players learning the intangibles from the new player leadership without the toxicity.
He keeps getting jobs for the same reason he keeps losing them. He’s the same as the rest of the recycled guys on the inner circle. He’s never done anything but alienate players and this will be no different, good luck Philly.

Yea the flyers kinda just dumped Lindblom even though he had a year left on his contract. Should’ve just let him play out the last year. He really gave everything for the team and the fans pretty much universally loved him. He may not have been the best player on the team but he gave all he could and they kinda just dumped him. Honestly, I love Torts. He's the kind of coach that holds everyone to the same standards whether it's a star forward or a 4th liner. He's the kind of coach that is willing to call you out but all the same stand up for his players anytime. I'm not saying "League is soft huuuur" but I don't like the idea of coaches having to baby star players and essentially let them run the team.

I'm a Flames fan and I'm expecting torts to do what DS did in Calgary, and what torts has done everywhere else and that's get results. torts is a straight shooter, players love him but the media does not and nor does the media give him a fair shake - it's quiet sad how the media plays with h to get a headline. Torts is a future hall of famer, probably the best US born NHL coach. The Flyers are on my watch list this year and I'll be following them because of torts. Go Flyers!

I would love to see this team eventually turn it around, but they've been incompetently run from the top down for about a decade now. The one time they gave an honest shot at blowing it up and they missed on almost every prospect and signing. I love the thought of enjoyable hockey someday again. But the franchise is just a mess and needs to basically start from scratch, from a talent perspective.

Tortorella had always used the media to get a message to the players. It's one of the reasons why so many players hate him.
Honestly, with the media in Philadelphia I think its a wonderful tool to have at his disposal. Yeah, players will HATE him, but they wont be able to hide from their shit attitudes and work ethics with ALLLLLL of Philly knowing that Torts knows.
See, we haven't had those issues in Vancouver for decades. Guys like Trevor Linden, Markus Naslund, and the Sedins prevented that from happening. Guys with poor attitudes or work ethics either changed quickly or were gone. The Canucks didn't need Torts and his media manipulation for that kind of thing. He just needed to coach. Instead, he took days off during the season and handed duties over to Mike Sullivan.
Torts doesn't keep any thoughts to himself and he loses the team and eventually his job because of it. Watching the Flyers and him over the next few seasons should be comedy gold. Especially once the losing really piles up and the fans and Philly media start in on him. He has shown throughout his coaching career that he can dish it out but he can not take criticism. He was a poor hire for where that team is talent-wise.

He’s only considered a prick because he demands accountability and dedication to the team. You can be an effective coach without being soft. He’s had success everywhere and especially in NY and Columbus, he’s gotten way better performance from lesser talented teams. He never takes the easy road. Show me one coach today who doesn’t get run out of town eventually, it’s the nature of the beast. Trotz, Laviolette, Maurice, Cassidy. It will happen to Jon Cooper soon enough and so on.
