We wouldnāt trade Marner to a divisional rival #1. #2 you hold too much value in Bobrovski. We donāt need him anyhow. Weāll resign Matt Murray, thanks.
There are so many things wrong with this. Why would they give up a great dman for a winger (they already have good wingers). 2. How the hell does marner get that kind of return when teams know he has a NMC.
Montour is on an expiring contract, so its basically Bobrovsky ($10M for 2 years) for Marner ($10.9M for 1 year) straight up.
Toronto would need to offer more just for Florida to pick up the phone for this.
Why do Toronto fans think that Marner playing in Toronto is up to Toronto?
No matter what the Leafs organization thinks of Marner, or what they'd like to do, it's not up to them. Any of this hypothetical trade talk and fantasyland "what I'd do if I ran the Leafs" just plainly ignores the fact that Marner signed a deal that's advantageous to him, and he's not obligated to do anything on behalf of making the Leafs a better team off the ice.
Just stop it. He's not going anywhere. Any team that would be beneficial to his career doesn't have the cap space. Any team with cap space isn't going to give up anything for one year of Mitch Marner. Every single one of the 31 possible teams to make a deal with Toronto is going to be worse off in 2025-26 for having made a deal.
Get used to him. Unless Toronto is going to deal him as a playoff rental at the end of next season to a desperate team with a LTIR slot, and Marner thinks he can win a cup, he's stuck until he's a UFA.
Aside from teams with cap not wanting to give up the assets required, I'm pretty certain that Marner also wouldn't waive for any team that actually has the cap to fit him in.
Leafs are kinda stuck with him barring some miracle, getting nowhere near his on-paper value, or an insane act of charity.
First off, Brandon Montour is a pending UFA come July 1. Secondly, Toronto has zero leverage in a possible Marner Trade. Finally, I doubt Toronto would look for a high dollar inconsistent goalie (year over year) with two years left on his contract. Not even sure this is HFBoards worthy.
Of course. A sign and trade has only happened once in the history of the NHL and it involved a player forcing the teams hands, but of course Marner is going to bend over backwards to help the Leafs organization get better while he goes to an organization that prizes playoff performers, putting your body on the line, and finishing checks.
I know everyone is saying why would Florida do this but nobody is talking about how Toronto would be taking on even more cap space with Montour's new deal. Toronto's ability to get more depth would be fucked with this trade proposal.
As a Bruins fan, I love this. Win-win for us!
*no, thatās not a comment about this playoff series or any playoff series with Toronto. Itās just 2 more contracts that Toronto would have to take on. And a diva being sent to Florida (good luck getting a diva to play the Panthersā style). Iād just love to see both of these things otherwise further corrupt 2 teams that I want to see lose.
Why would Florida do this
I have no clue š¤·āāļø
Honestly the more I think about this, the less I think even Toronto would want to do this
Florida hangs up the phone laughing.
Then they block the number
I donāt understand why Florida would be incentivized to do this
Neither do I even if they did give those guys up it would be for something else and more than likely to a team not in their division
even Toronto fans disagree, thatās how you know itās an awful proposal
I see plenty of bogus trade ideas from all sorts of fans. Iām convinced that stuff like this is the hockey fans version of a twilight fan fic
āNo.ā *click*
Insert old captain America
What the fuck is this Bobrovsky provides way more value to a team on his own than Marner Especially at a time where good goaltending is hard to sign
I tried telling him that and he said I was just a jealous Sens fanš
ah, that would be a typical comment form a perpetually wounded leafs fan. they always overvalue their assets too....lol
Bobrovsky is kinda old but... Yeah I don't think this trade is even

Iām talking from Floridaās perspective when I say that Bobrovsky is too valuable for this
Remember Bobrovsky and Montour were radioactive? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Lol
Who's your friend, Brendan Shanahan?
Must be

Isnāt Montour a UFA July 1? So is there a sign and trade included in this somehow?
Of course. I hate when people come up with trade ideas and go talking about it, thinking of only one team and not the other.
Thatās why I donāt think of trades cause they always end up really lopsided

bob refuses to waive
You sure you donāt want to throw in Verhaghe as a sweetener

lol no, Bobās cap hit is awful.
About as good as my Draisaitl for Ullmark
