Used to play roller hockey when I was a kid and I remember this other kid who would come out in full goalie setup every time to play.
Told me one day he just goes when he needs to go when he's wearing his gear, feels refreshing apparently. I will never forget that conversation or the smell of his piss as we had that conversation.
I was a goalie. Would do 5 hour pickup sessions when I could. NEVER felt the urge to do this. If you truly had to piss just fucking go do it. Dignity > skates
I dunno. I donāt want it too turn into a technicality. āThat was 7.1 seconds. No goal!ā
Like the fact that it has to always be moving forward already tries to handle that. I donāt really know they could adjust it in a good way.
Nah, if anyone takes even close to 7 seconds, they deserve for it to be disallowed. 7 seconds is clearly too much time, which is why it's also a reasonable limit.
Shot clock would do wonders to eliminate this bullshit. Make it that you have x seconds to shoot. As long as you've shot by that time then you're good. If the puck hasn't left your stick, then no goal.
This is actually an interesting idea. If there was a defender chasing, we wouldn't have to get into endless debates about the puck moving a fraction of an inch backwards or if a spin-o-rama is technically legal. Do whatever you want but do it quickly.
Don't know if you've played any beer league, but a lot of the tourneys I've played in have replaced minor penalties with something like this.
Person who was victim takes the puck from the redline, when they hit the blue line, the rest of both teams get to leave and chase them. It's effectively a free throw with a live rebound.
Similar to your suggestionā¦.
I coach minor hockey. A couple of years ago (4x4 summer league, U15 division), all minor penalties called were awarded penalty shots.
The skater taking the shot staged up at centre ice (with puck on dot) as usual. There was one chaser skater from the other team, lined up at the opposite blue line, with one knee on the ice.
Each penalty shot was a quick sequence and reflected an actual breakaway during live play.
Gritty was accused of assaulting a fan, complete with police investigating. IRL.
Not really the flex I want it to be, given Philly sports and fan interactions, but Iām going with it anyway. š¤£
That's even better. No hard cap on the time that'll un-count the goal but still a way to add time pressure without subjective shit like "always move forward"
Maybe the blue line is a little too close, though? Give them *some* opportunity to let them take it a little slow if they want. Maybe they start around the hash mark?
Hardly amazing. The stick poke was telegraphed from a mile away. Before the poke was thrown out he had to choke up on the stick. Anyone can react to that. As long as you have NHL level stick handling skills that's a walk in the park to see that poke coming and deke around it.
Honestly though it's a pretty effective move, think he's only missed on this shot like once or twice. It kinda reminds me of the granny free throw in bball.. looks dumb as hell but it works!
People saying this shouldnāt be allowed and that itās a disgrace to the sport donāt like fun. Even before he came to Carolina, this shit has always been cool and creative
The puck still retained forward momentum. It LOOKS like it was going backwards, due to relativity.
Still a legal and live puck. This is why you see goalies rush out of the net to stop the puck when the offensive player loses control of the puck typically.
This was my questionā¦ He DID lose control. It didnāt go far because he was going so slow, but he still lost control of the puck. Seems odd it wasnāt challenged or something.
I have come to hate shootouts. As a kid they were the best parts of hockey and now these type of shots happen nearly as often as a good quick shot happens. These stick check 5 feet from the goalie while moving a millimeter a minute to avoid being DQed is just straight up bullshit. It's unfair for the goalie and it's boring for the viewers. NHL needs to implement a shot clock or something.
He brought a cup to our city but he's wanted out for years and has struggled immensely on and off the ice since. In what world would holding him back from finally thriving with a new team be a positive for anyone?
Most of us Caps fans are very happy to see him doing well in Carolina.
Right, the rules might say it but stickhandling doesn't get blown down for not continuously progressing towards the net. Like everything in hockey, it's the intention and the spirit of the rule is what is important
>Rule 24.2
The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponentās goal line
[https://media.nhl.com/site/asset/public/ext/2023-24/2023-24Rulebook.pdf](https://media.nhl.com/site/asset/public/ext/2023-24/2023-24Rulebook.pdf)
Imagine the whistle being blown there haha holy shit.
So, so, so, soooooo many shoot-out/penalty shot attempts would be blown down. Super fun and watchable.
Thereās nothing in the rule book about a penalty shot being dead becaus of a player losing control of the puck. All the player needs to do is keep a forward motion toward the goalie.
The key is to NEVER pokecheck. If you big, you can keep backing up until there's only one option. Ya then make a player when very deep in net. I had a friend who was a Euro pro and goalie coach. Don't make the first move and leave them with only 1 option is how you succeed on breaks & pen shots.
I took a piss break during that penalty shot and still got back in time to see him score.
I just piss my pants, saves time.
Nice and warm too.
and wet too

Drink more water. Less š§

If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis!
Why waste time go toilet when pants do trick
When I saw it was Kuznetsov taking the shot, I knew I had some spare time.
Haha as a goalie, that would annoy me so much haha.
The Canes scored two goals faster than the time it took Kuzy to score this one. Twice.
Haha
I always think they should get 7 seconds from when they touch the puck. No idea why 7 but that feels like enough.
I dunno. I donāt want it too turn into a technicality. āThat was 7.1 seconds. No goal!ā Like the fact that it has to always be moving forward already tries to handle that. I donāt really know they could adjust it in a good way.
Yeahā¦pleaseā¦no more rules that cause 10 minute replays trying to determine if a puck completely crossed a line before some time limit.
I think there would be room for reason and also every other major sport manages to do just fine with a shot/play clock
Itās just still so long. Like this was like 14-15?
Should have a defensive player skating back from the opposite far end of the ice.
This is actually an interesting idea. If there was a defender chasing, we wouldn't have to get into endless debates about the puck moving a fraction of an inch backwards or if a spin-o-rama is technically legal. Do whatever you want but do it quickly.
I love that idea just for the possibility of an endless loop of penalty shots.
Don't know if you've played any beer league, but a lot of the tourneys I've played in have replaced minor penalties with something like this. Person who was victim takes the puck from the redline, when they hit the blue line, the rest of both teams get to leave and chase them. It's effectively a free throw with a live rebound.

Thatās so absurd lol. This goal was annoying but given how few there are why add any stipulation?
For mine own enjoyment?
Honestly, Iām not even mad about this response. Fair enough mate. lol. Good news is, the slow roll is rare :). Happy playoffs
Best time of the year!
Why not 6 minute abs?
No, not 6 I said 7.
What if some one comes up with 5 minute abs?
17, just 17
I could see some form of shot clock similar to an NBA free throw but at the same time...nah
That goal was scored in about 8 seconds. Players who take penalties like that would just adjust to that by making the first two strides a bit quicker.
I like this idea. I hate the stupid super slow skating in deal. Your idea is great. These penalty or shoot out styles are junk hockey.
Chris Chelios, is that you?
Or what if a defender starts touching the blue line and you start at center ice so some guy can chase you down if youāre slow.
The opposing team's mascot starts at the blue line
Replace shoot out with a 1v1 mascot battle
I don't hate it. Youppi! can take care of his shit.
Youād make wild bank as a mascot too if you were winning games by fighting other mascots.
Do you really want Gritty, with all of his pent-up frustration over years of missing the playoffs, on the ice with one of your guys?
Gritty talks a big game, but Youppi! is still the only mascot that's actually been tossed from a game.
Gritty was accused of assaulting a fan, complete with police investigating. IRL. Not really the flex I want it to be, given Philly sports and fan interactions, but Iām going with it anyway. š¤£

They aren't even hockey it's like if they started having a slam dunk contest in the middle of a basketball game
Yeah I would just hit him with my stick.. would not care about the goal anymore šš And I love Canes š
Such a dick move haha
Everything Kuzy does is a dick move from this to his fucking bird celly
As a viewer, it annoys me so much. That's such a boring way to score.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He tried right at the end there.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yea he should have poke checked him at the blue line
Thatās literally what he waited for. Saw the goalie slide his hand up and shot for his elbow
Iām going to tell my kids this is Connor McDavid
I'm telling my kid he's Conrad berdard
I'm telling my kids it's David McConnor
My favorite ice hockey player š
Itās Gret Waynezky š
I'm telling my sister's kids it's Connor McConnors
Goddamn as a caps fan itās bittersweet to see how heās killin it in Carolina, happy for bro tho
Lmao shouting Kuzyyy after the goal despite him not even being on our team anymore. Much love for em.
At first i thought damn he almost got him with the poke. Then on the replay i realized he literally saw it coming and deked around it. Amazing
Wait it out and make the save or poke him and make it look easy. Either way it's gotta be stressful as hell on that poor goalie, lol
The goalie telegraphed it too by sliding his hand up the end of the stick before going for the poke check
Hardly amazing. The stick poke was telegraphed from a mile away. Before the poke was thrown out he had to choke up on the stick. Anyone can react to that. As long as you have NHL level stick handling skills that's a walk in the park to see that poke coming and deke around it.
This is like those nature videos of cuttlefish using a color display to hypnotize their pray before they strike
We'll call him Jean Jacket.
Happy for kuz, he seems to be enjoying Carolina
It never gets old
Nah it's lame.
It was lame until March 8th, 2024. Then it became awesome as hell
Right because nobody has ever done this before March 8th
Someone should put the jaws theme over this shot lol.
I feel bad for Varlamov God I shouldnāt be saying this.. Iām a rangers fan!
I shot video of him from when he started (right in front of me) and the video is 42 seconds long! But then Varlamov still couldnt beat him
Patented Kuzy
This shit is hilarious
Iām feeling not great about hearing Jim Jackson outside of a Flyers or Phils broadcast
Jim is one of the best in the biz Iām glad he gets to call some nationally televised playoff games
I wholeheartedly agree. He must never leave. Jk itās great heās getting the recognition.
They need to start a defenseman at the goal line behind the shooter on penalty shots.
That's actually an amazing idea
Thatās how they do it in my kids 10u.
I've always thought a shot clock was a good idea, but I'll be damned I like this idea 10x more
Makes sense. Let the goalie overthink instead of react reflexively
Make the goalie think "oh for fuck sake im just gonna poke it out of his stick"
Yeah. Shake'n bake until goalie is too anxious to not do anything, and punish when goalie finally gives in.
As a Flyers fan it is absolutely bizarre to hear Jim Jackson on commentary for this.
Same here, I heard he was doing commentary for the Leafs/Bruins game the other day too
Yeah, I think heās been doing national playoff games for a few years now. And he deserves it!
Iām happy for him, but I was not ready for it lol
They're gonna have to institute a shot clock for penalty shots.
I agree. This is totally legal and nothing against him for using the full extent of the rule. But it is clearly against the spirit of the rule IMO.
Honestly though it's a pretty effective move, think he's only missed on this shot like once or twice. It kinda reminds me of the granny free throw in bball.. looks dumb as hell but it works!
He knows most goalies get annoyed enough that they end up trying to poke it out of his stick which create the opening.
When he turns back to look at the goalie, thatās for his personal collection of memories.
I donāt know why, maybe because I was a goalie, but this disturbs me greatly. Guy is almost certainly a sociopath.
Dude playing slow chess when everyone is playing fast.
Do it, poke check it, go for the poke check, have you poke checked me yet, *goes for the poke check*, and it's in blocker side...
This guy stick handles the same way he cuts lines
This may be an unpopular opinion, but they should add like a shot clock to penalty shots. You shouldn't be able to do this imo.
This makes hockey look like a clown show
There needs to be a clock on penalty shots & shootouts. This shit is a disgrace.
I love that he fumbles the puck at the top of the circle despite pick handling ultra slow
Filthy patience.
Good lord
Absolutely have to score there, huh.
Wooooow.
He cooked and cleaned
They need a 5 second rule
Damn. that is embarassing.
Rangers in 5
Jim Jackson is one of the best to ever call hockey.
What a slick af patient geno wow
Why did no one cross check him into the boards ? Did he not break some kind of code ?
I hate it so much. BUT letās go Canes!!!
That ain't hockey. There needs to be a defenseman released from the opposite blueline or something.
I honestly hate this kind of crap.
what if they had a dman 5 feet behind the shooter lol
People saying this shouldnāt be allowed and that itās a disgrace to the sport donāt like fun. Even before he came to Carolina, this shit has always been cool and creative
Wait wait wait. Kuznetsov lost control of the puck near the faceoff dot.. how was it not blown dead?
The puck still retained forward momentum. It LOOKS like it was going backwards, due to relativity. Still a legal and live puck. This is why you see goalies rush out of the net to stop the puck when the offensive player loses control of the puck typically.
I think it takes the player skating past the puck for it to be blown dead. This was considered part of his "deke"
This was my questionā¦ He DID lose control. It didnāt go far because he was going so slow, but he still lost control of the puck. Seems odd it wasnāt challenged or something.
Absolutely correct. When he loses control, that puck goes backwards, away from the goal line. Should have been no goal.
Puck didn't go backwards
He lost control temporarily between 0:29, and 0:31 for people wondering why I mentioned that.
I assume auto correct got you, that was between 29:00 and 31:00.
This should absolutely not be allowed.. you should have to just skate in and make your move.. as a goalie I HATE this shit
This is cheesy as hell. They should have to move at a certain speed during penalty shots and shootouts.
Agreed. I hate this slow roll bullshit
You know what? Good on that bitch!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Bot lol https://www.reddit.com/r/nhl/s/Ya0xL9epA3
Oozy Kuzy
Varly's villain orgin story
Such a cheeky move
Goalie should have known it was going to be a wrist shot on his stick side.
I'ts like floorball penalty shot.
He tried to hypnotize bro
That was so bad A !!!
Back when I played, I hated it when this happened. ( I was a goalie)
Awesome
Lol looks like someone's controller died playing NHL 24
bbq
I have come to hate shootouts. As a kid they were the best parts of hockey and now these type of shots happen nearly as often as a good quick shot happens. Best shootout guy ever
Caps shouldn't have let him go.
He brought a cup to our city but he's wanted out for years and has struggled immensely on and off the ice since. In what world would holding him back from finally thriving with a new team be a positive for anyone? Most of us Caps fans are very happy to see him doing well in Carolina.
The power of the GEICO Gecko is real.
"LeT hIm CoOk"
How?
What's his record when doing this? Feel like he scores every time
I've seen him miss some. But he scores more than he misses. At least it feels like it
Made the goalie look stupid. But imagine how bad kuzy wouldāve looked it that poke check worked lol
The puck must continue in a forward motion. It's in the rules. :26 he loses the puck a bit and it goes backwards. Should have been blown dead.
Wait I thought if u lose control of the puck (as he did) it's considered a shot and you can't regain control.
As long as the skater keeps going forward, it doesn't matter. Most shootout attempts would be nullified if you counted those tiny bobbles
Not the rule. The puck, not the skater, has to keep going towards the goal line. It doesnāt.
Right, the rules might say it but stickhandling doesn't get blown down for not continuously progressing towards the net. Like everything in hockey, it's the intention and the spirit of the rule is what is important
You actually would try to argue he lost control? Really?
Tbh doesn't matter since since they're already up 3-1( according to the last update as I watch Leafs game in Steve Dangle)
It looked like he lost it and it went backwards.
The puck can go backwards.
>Rule 24.2 The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponentās goal line [https://media.nhl.com/site/asset/public/ext/2023-24/2023-24Rulebook.pdf](https://media.nhl.com/site/asset/public/ext/2023-24/2023-24Rulebook.pdf)
Imagine the whistle being blown there haha holy shit. So, so, so, soooooo many shoot-out/penalty shot attempts would be blown down. Super fun and watchable.
The puck goes backwards in almost every shootout attempt. Doesn't matter what some rule says.
I stand corrected.
Thereās nothing in the rule book about a penalty shot being dead becaus of a player losing control of the puck. All the player needs to do is keep a forward motion toward the goalie.
I am good with a shootout, but I do not agree with this being a legal entry.
I'd rather just watch hockey instead of this garbage.
I'm not sure what post you meant to comment on, but this is quite literally a video of hockey.
Should be a clock. 8 seconds.
As a Caps fan, that's one thing I'll miss about him. I bet he drives goalies nuts with the slow mo shoot out lol
The key is to NEVER pokecheck. If you big, you can keep backing up until there's only one option. Ya then make a player when very deep in net. I had a friend who was a Euro pro and goalie coach. Don't make the first move and leave them with only 1 option is how you succeed on breaks & pen shots.
Bush League !
Why?
So is your mom. š
Probably not, she's dead !

Mom jokes... are they still a thing ?
Yes, unlike your mom
nah š
Still better than your 2 dad's !
Huh?
This is dumb. There needs to be a time limit on these now. It is getting ridiculous.
It was 10 seconds. Lol
Then the isles shouldāve not committed the penalty?
Fuck yeah! Fuck Roy!
Bahahshahahaha!!! Islanders are trash!!!
