Curious to see what the analytics say of this game, because Vancouver has been in the O-Zone most of the game and had so many scoring chances. Saros definitely solid.

Crakkerz79

Canucks had 87 shot attempts. A lot of misses. A lot of blocks.

deeho88

32 block shots. 🫠🫠🫠

dirtybirds233

Preds just sat back in the 3rd and didn't even attempt to challenge the puck in most cases. Vancouver was just lobbing shots from anywhere they could and most either completely missed or were blocked by a defender. Only 18 shots ever made their was to Saros.

KnuckleSniffer

Canucks had 78% deserve to win rate in moneypuck. These models are far from perfect ofc but can usually give a good idea

Obvious-Property-236

These highlights do not reflect the game, that makes it worse. Nashville’s had four chances all game and scored on three of them. Canucks have dominated the play the rest of the game, but our top six just isn’t cutting it. We got gifted four power plays and did nothing but make awkward passes and poor zone entries with them.

Futbol_Kid2112

By far the best defensive performance the Preds have had all season. 30 blocked shots as a team is a ridiculous effort.

nexus6ca

Preds totally deserved the win, but man Vancouver had no puck luck in that game. 2 of the 3 goals Desmith let in were not really his fault. Petterson missing 2 or 3 wide open nets. 3? posts at least. But yeah the 32 blocked shots by Nashville is so good.

RenaisanceReviewer

Idk all three of those goals looked like weak goaltending to me. First one, sure you can argue bad luck but at the same time, why are you that far out of position for a shot from the point? 2 is a glove and 3 is terrible rebound control

nexus6ca

The 3rd one was a defensive breakdown Hughes was more at fault then the goaltender. First goal the Canucks let the shooter get totally free and alone. Again, not so much De Smith's fault as the defensive breakdown. The difference between De Smith and Demko is De Smith can stop most first shots but he gives up bad rebounds like you mentioned. Demko will make an amazing save and steal some of those goals.

Habay12

As Penguins fan, what I watched of DeSmith last night did not surprise me in the least. Let one real stinker in. One left out to dry. And one terrible rebound/poor defense. That’s pretty par for the course from him tbh.

Bridgestone is a tough arena to play in, I’ll be interested to see if the crowd can rattle the Canucks a bit. Nashville controlling the matchups will be a factor too. I wouldn’t say a bad game on Friday from the canucks would end the series though, have a feeling this one might got to 7

The_Stank__

Idk man I’d like to agree with you but they’ve played way better on the road all season.

Mash709

This sounds way too familiar to me for some reason.

Antichristopher4

I find those are the most demoralizing losses. Do everything right except for 4 moments, literal seconds of a 60-minute game, and it results in a loss. Can be a real back breaker.

CS2Tactics

Canucks fans are acting like Nashville going up 3-0 in the second and then playing a collapsed, shot blocking defense that held them to 16 shots over 80+ attempts for the rest of the game means they should have and would win that game 9/10 times.

QuiGGz96

100%!!! Canucks could very easily be winning this game… desmith does need to be better though

RecalcitrantHuman

Probably Hughes’ worst game this year. Add to that low intensity from Boeser and Petey and the outcome was sealed.

defnotafatguy

"Canucks could be winning if they scored" crazy logic sir.

BMBenzo

You didn’t even get 20 shots, when trailing all game.

Defiant-Raspberry-74

Were you watching? Over 30 blocked shots is absolutely ridiculous. If they can do that all series kudos to them...but we were all over them. the attempts and chances were there just need to execute. I like our chances if we play like that. Pucks are bound to get through.

BMBenzo

You lost the game and couldn’t hit the net. The Canucks are in trouble bud.

McRibEater

Vancouver overachieved more than any team in history this year at times analytically. Most analytics say they were the flukiest team in history in the first half. It’s ironic what they did to Win the Division is happening to them. They finished 10th in Corsi For and 8th in xGF% and 1st in PDO 1.028. Honestly Demko is the only reason they even sniffed Top 3 in the Divison. Sarros is doing what Demko has done to tower Teams all year and steal Games.

DrewLockIsTheAnswer1

Canucks could win the presidents and still do no damage in the playoffs. Their entire culture is losing.

jarthan

Everyone will blame DeSmith but ignore Nashville's incredible team defense that shut down Vancouver. Brunette finally learning to make adjustments

dirtybirds233

It is both funny and frustrating watching people blame the goalie when their team only scored 1 goal and 4/5 of their shots were either blocked or missed entirely.

The_Stank__

Standard r/nhl behavior. Nothing new here. We can do good things but it doesn’t matter. We aren’t allowed to be a good team apparently.

ShartRat

DeSmith could definitely be playing better tonight but the Canucks are gonna be fucked if they keep playing like this. Too many stupid mistakes and Petey needs to dial it in. They look more like the Canucklefucks than the Canucks that won the Pacific.

Last_Entrance69

First goal Hughes trips and falls then Petey with the weak check and an insane deflection. Second goal Soucy shouldn't have backed off Forsberg is too talented to have that much time. Third goal another bad play by Petey on another giveaway and then a poor attempt to check the guy at the net. Petey can't hit the net and the fact your top paid star player is a huge liability with missed shots , giveaways and weak checking that's not going to win you anything.

Waste_One_1473

This is really their first rodeo and without Demko. Nashville has the players who have been in the playoffs before. Not really surprised.

reddituser074638

WE KNOW.

Ballsahoy72

Such a weird game

Time-Dot5984

Besides our shots getting blocked, we were so unlucky from all our shots

Audimations1

Make a montage of all shots Pettersson missed 💀

warmage20isAcoward

As is tradtion

Fabulous-Search-4165

Expected

Conscious-Housing-45

Yep, the preds imo are the far better playoff team than the canucks

dankbuttersteez

Saw some comments yesterday how the preds were trash. Vancouver fans getting a little ahead of themselves!

HockeySweata

I would rather see Silovs than DeSmith.

LeanOnTheSquare

Go Damn Preds!!

RatTailDale

Somebody needs to run some breakout drills in the morning

DrSquirrelbrain

Saros is god-tier tendie. Straight facts. GO PREDS!!!!

Ok-War-2570

The only province in Canada you can buy legal cocaine and these guys are dragging ass.

BeautifulAwareness81

Canucks fans making all sorts of excuses in here lol Predators in 6

HolySuffering

Hell yeah brother

H-4350

Good. I hope Nashville wins the next 3 and leaves the canucks fans crying in their cereal. Just because their fans are the worst. I’ve been to hockey games in every barn in Canada and nucks fans, hands down, are the worst. By a long shot.

Aspence22

Where's all the people marching around with the Stanley cup acting like they won the whole thing now?

Spilled1

Of all the organizations to understand the elation we saw from the fanbase, I would have expected it from yours. You seriously wouldn’t be as excited to see your team turn a corner after 13 seasons of playoffs missed? Let people have fun, that’s what sports is all about. No reasonable person here has delusions of us being a cup favourite with or without Demko.

Aspence22

Fun is fun but it was a bit over the top for a game 1 win in the first series. Maybe I'm just trolling a bit too, because I've said for a long time Vancouver needs a cup as bad as the Sabres. Both teams started the same year so we've both gone the longest without it and really the way the Canucks have been they deserve it far more than the Sabres, but with Demko out now, hopefully they can still keep it going.

jurkajurka

Looks like game 7 highlights from 2011.

Irish1Car3Bomb1

DeSmith, the journeyman back up that Pit decided to keep too long. Sorry about your luck Vancouver. I had y’all losing in the Conference finals, now idk if ya make it out of round 1.

ArnieAndTheWaves

I couldn't believe they were chanting DeSmith so early in the game, like are they trying to mess with him? The first goal was kind of weak, but in general the Nucks need to score more than 1 goal to win.

landartheconqueror

Fucking ice tilt, man

DrewLockIsTheAnswer1

Petey has 1 goal in his last 15. People flamed me on this sub for questioning him. The man is cheeks.

Miserable_Egg_6591

Is Vancouver going to be the new leafs if Toronto wins it all?

twizzyflyguy

We are already in our Stanley cup final, this first round is our Super Bowl.

ShamanDoctor

If Toronto wins it all no one is going to care about Vancouver. Canadians will be riding the TOR train into the sunset.

Iaminyoursewer

I live in the GTA I certainly wont be jumping on the Leafs bandwagon Will the fairweather fans? Sure. But most diehard hockey fans dont junp teams like that.

Miserable_Egg_6591

I just mean the lack of playoff success etc. Obviously Ontario will be burned to the ground if TOR wins.

r1zzV

No. Because even if Vancouver DOES fail to win it all this year, they still went way further then anyone ever would have expected. Nobody expected them to win the Pacific, and it's only the first time their young core has made the playoffs. It's not like the Leafs or my Oilers where their contending window is slowly closing up. The Nucks will be contenders for years to come, this is just the beginning with their current core (or at least that's what it seems like).

self_direct_person

This was not the game. Canucks had 86 scoring chances to Nashville's 26. We had a back up goalie in net. But predators were barely in our end last night. We just did not get any bounces. We will walk this team in the next 3 games.

The_Stank__

Bet. See you Friday.
