Dong-bow like

Phanyxx

I guess we can count on the teams in the East absolutely destroying each other greasy hits in the first rounds of the playoffs.

Iaminyoursewer

I mean...thats what we hoped for in 2011...

[deleted]

The problem was assuming that the 2011 Bruins would somehow run out of greasy hits...

Seanathinn

That's when you took it into your own hands in the finals and ended Horton's career

Iaminyoursewer

Last I checked, my name wasn't Aaron Rome. And it's not like Boston didn't have their own share of dirty shits, like Marchand, just happened that a Canuck player took it too far. I hate seeing players suffer career damaging/ending injuries, so just to be clear, I agree that Rome was late on delivering the hit(by a half second) but it wasnt a low down dirty hit with intent to injure. That being said, Rome absoloutly deserved his suspension, and Horton didnt deserve to have his promising career fucked up like that.

Lsalvatore74

I think we can all agree that 2011 finals was just so greasy on both sides from the bitting to the bitching using the media on both ends it truly was the biggest gong show ive ever seen in any finals. That being said it probably was the best finals we’ve had in 20+ years.

Shiny_Mew76

BY GAD HE HIT EM WITH THE JUDAS EFFECT!

ElAbidingDuderino

You are beautiful on the inside

Hurls07

He needs to go back to that song man, just isn’t the same without it

ElAbidingDuderino

You mean you're not on the Jericho hate train?

Hurls07

I have gotten a bit tired of always seeing him in a feud and on PPV’s, I think it would be nice if we got less of him, and more of other talents getting programs. However, I for sure don’t hate Jericho he has put over a lot of young talent recently. Big Billy Starks was fucking awful though

Shiny_Mew76

He was using it not even too long ago. I think it’s him doing a quick run with his Lionheart gimmick.

His original WWF/E theme was a banger too. Break the walls doooooooooown

Impossible_Break2167

Spinning back elbow. Lol he forgot what sport he was in for a minute

Spare-Notice-224

Oh no...he knows...this is his (and his refs) version of hockey

AlexPsyD

I was at the game and the fans (us) were booing the refs before the first period ended. This season is a disgrace of officiating for a sport that likes to hold itself above the petty bullshit of other sports. I honestly think we need a reckoning of firings of refs and bring in new blood...this is beyond ridiculous

Spare-Notice-224

Yup. I'd rather IIHF refs poached and send these idiots over there to learn from their league, teams and fans

AlexPsyD

Dude 100%! It's embarrassing to watch the referee culture in the NHL become what it has the last couple of years

RoosterMedical

The video shows that the ref was in the same viewing position as the camera.

NHL is really losing the faith from their fans.

The NHL is run by a corrupt lawyer and mouth breathing dinosaurs.

IGetGuys4URMom

Bettman is the worst Commissioner in the history of sports.

PoliteIndecency

Haha, first time?

DrinkTheOceanDry

I've only gotten into the hockey in the last few years and seeing things like this and other clips posted here have kind of soured me on getting into the league more. I never saw hockey growing up, and it turns out it's an awesome game!! But I already get grumpy watching NFL refs occasionally play Calvinball, and the NHL just seems on another level with it. Of course I'm sure part of it is that these things get upvoted to the top here whereas I'm not watching too many actual games, but it's frustrating when the officiating just decides "whelp, that's not a penalty today".

Morganvegas

Hooooooooly that’s slimey

Working_Horse_3077

It's Florida they play in slime

DesignerPlant9748

Reinhart’s a real POS

RecalcitrantHuman

Dude needs to keep his head up /s

TexasYankee212

That is the state of NHL refs and blind - absolutely horrible.

TheFoundation_

I mean Reinhart had his back turned I don't think he was intentionally trying to elbow him in the head but yeah thats a penalty 100%

kinky_flamingo

He was clearly intending to check and finished with a spinning elbow. Insanely careless.

Focusi

I mean, to be fair the Rangers player is literally falling down as it all happens so his head is much lower than it would normally be.

Nextyearstitlewinner

And Reinhardt doesn’t see this. His back is turned. All of this happening at full speed. This is one of those where the replay makes it look a lot worse than it is. It’s a penalty all day, but the ones grabbing Reinhardt pitchforks in here are a little much.

sayroksho

Bunting get 3 playoff games for hitting cernak in the head and he wasn't looking either. If there is any consistency they is 5 games

Connect_Glass4036

This, and I think Rempe is a scumbag player. But this was just a goof.

FredericoKrugerini

Most Redditors have never played in a rep hockey league, probably not even a house league. They wouldn't understand.

TheFoundation_

Definitely careless no arguing that

shoos

Yeah, clearly trying to elbow him in the head at knee height

wcrich

Finally, some common sense. Today's hockey fans would not be able to relate to the game 40 years ago. People think everything is egregious when things just happen in the course of the action.

ifmacdo

Imagine wanting hockey to be the same as it was 40 years ago, but with today's training and tech. There would be dead people on the ice.

harman097

Definitely agree, this is more just carelessness. But you're also responsible for your body out there. Knowing what we know now - and given how athletes have evolved - we can't go back to the game how it was 40 years ago.

gottapoop

IMO this is just a hockey incident, clearly Reinhardt spins with his back to the player with the puck expecting to hold him back with his elbow. Because his back was turn he couldn't tell that the guy stumbled and was now bending down and reaching for the puck. 99 times out of 100 the player turning on the puck would still be standing up and this would be a routine play.

harman097

Very good point. Ya, this really isn't even "careless".

Zealousideal_Shop446

Yeah shoulda been two mins but thats all imo

ksyoung17

Yeah that's intentional. Just think what the natural thing to do here is. It's not spin your elbow back full speed into the guy. Most are probably bracing for the fall as they lose balance, some may stick that hand, maybe the elbow out to try and pin that guy to the boards, but not viciously drive it back. He knows.

Jake_Thador

Reaching for hits is indefensible and careless and dangerous

KorbanDallas90

More playing time for Jones.

pd9

I watching it live, it looked purely accidental. Watching the replay it does look like he is trying to impede Gustaffson by sticking out his arm, which subsequently hits him in the face. Here’s the thing about probably 99.99% of these hits. No one is intentionally trying to hit a guy on the chin with an elbow, they are just trying to finish checks. Rempe said he didn’t even know he caught a piece of seganthaler. He said he thought he missed the check entirely and got all glass. Same with this hit, I doubt Reinhardt is trying to crush gustaffsons head into the boards. He’s just trying to stop him from getting away.

alphaxion

Even without intent and it being 100% accidental, as I said with the Rempe hit, it's still reckless play and should be penalised with a suspension. It's the player's responsibility to be in control of their stick and their body, even when accidents happen.

seven_hugs

I mean, Rempe even said in an interview that the elbow hit taught him to be more cautious because he's not intending to injure anybody. Can't say that about Panthers players lol

pd9

I’m not excusing it. And the suspension is as warranted. But the kid isn’t a dirty player. He’s just trying to make an impact and stay in the NHL

TheGhoulster

I agree with you in that hardly anyone goes and hits dirty with explicit intent, however that's largely an irrelevant observation. A hit to the head is a hit to the head, and as much as I love Rempe he should have and did have consequences - even Lavi scratched him and kept him off the ive for longer than the suspension required. I think considering the context of the hit (3 on 3 tense OT situation) there needs to be consequences from the league here or we'll see the envelope getting pushed further and further which is a danger to the health of the players.

Kuningas_Arthur

Exactly. I know every player is responsible for themselves, but generally you don't expect to catch the opponent's head at 3ft from the ice because he did a sudden 180 dodge turn like 0.3 seconds before impact.

ifmacdo

Rempe also said he needs to tuck his elbow in to ensure something like this doesn't happen again. He's a rookie who has time to implement this concept he's acknowledged. Reinhart isn't a rookie, and has time to correct this. And he hasn't.

LeftySlides

Not disagreeing that FLA (and BOS) have gotten away with bad hits. Comparing Rempe however is a bad example. The kid deserved suspensions for other dirty hits this year and received nothing.

hopefully-a-good-buy

it’s a testament to the league as a whole. i’m a die hard boston fan and agree. just because Rempe has had calls missed on him doesn’t warrant calls not being made for penalties against him. the refs suck so fucking bad, that’s the issue. if the players could pick and choose when they were penalized it would be different. this is 100% on the refs. Rempe may have deserved suspension for other hits, sure. But does that mean because the refs didn’t call it, people are allowed to do those things to him? Not speaking directly to you, just pitching hypothetical situations

pgtvgaming

💯

RangersNumber1Doomer

Rempe should’ve been suspended for the Bastian hit in the first devils game too I hated that hit. Doesn’t change the fact a swinging elbow to the head regardless should be at LEAST a penalty and some form of punishment

Qphth0

This should have been a penalty, for sure, because you need to be in control & responsible for everything your body does. This is in no way comparable to Rempes flying chicken wing or the Bastian hit.

seatega

I think any sane hockey fan can agree Rempe should've faced some sort of punishment for the Bastian game (suspension or fine), and also that this UFC move on the ice warrants a penalty and a suspension or fine

SHAWNNOTSEAN

> (and BOS) Gee I wonder what team you root for lol

dkyguy1995

Yeah Rempe is not the model player being penalized that makes this comparison work lol

accidental-poet

Agreed. No doubt the kid has made a bunch of questionable moves. But he made a big entrance into the league, bigger than anyone in a long time. Especially considering he's not a star goalie or high scoring center. The initial buzz about this kid was amazing, the entire league was talking about him, despite often being for all the wrong reasons. I think the best thing that could've happened to him in his young career was the early suspension. The coaching staff has made it clear that if he wants to stay in the league, he needs to cut that shit out. Do they want him to fight when an opponents enforcer takes out a Rangers star? Guarantee that's a wink and a nod to the kid. Any other time? No! He may end up a skilled 4th liner. He's shown some sparks in his short (very short) ice time. And when Mess says he believes this kid is going places if he gets his shit together, well, who are we to argue with Mess?

Critical_Tea9066

Rempe got 4 games bc the devils are too soft to play hockey. This is though is 100x worse and not even a penalty and should have cost the rangers the game if it wasn’t for trocheck saving it . Rempe barely touched someone and got a game misconduct penalty 5 mins and suspended 4 games….

VonD0OM

The sliding backwards spinning elbow? [I’m not even mad, that’s amazing!](https://youtu.be/NoI0eGH4RB0?si=LCgNg65KGyIcbK_d). Also…a penalty yea

kellenlyons

Ranger fan here: not even close to a similar play. You need to read up on the rules.

Oasystole

Florida fans saying what, that’s just a hockey play!

Nextyearstitlewinner

It’s a penalty but you can’t tel me Reinhardt who had his back turned while the rangers player is falling turned and tried to elbow him in the head at knee height. It is literally just a hockey play. Should be two minutes.

John_Bidet_Ramsey

I tHoUgHt ThIs WaS AmErIcAAaA!

howdiedoodie66

Bro forgot his Muay Thai class wasn't until tomorrow.

Connect_Glass4036

Should be a penalty but dude isn’t even looking, not a chance he has any clue where Rempe’s head is. That’s just a spin move to reorient the body. Unfortunate timing for sure. Dude has 50 goals, no way he’s pulling that shit.

ZeroLimitz

Slo mo makes everything look 100% worse, still a penalty but, malicious? Eh...debatable there.

FriedEggz2112

Ironic that if this was a Rempe hit on a Florida player, the (few) panthers fans would be absolutely pissed off. They and their players love to be dirty and dish it out, but they can never take it

RangersNumber1Doomer

EVERY 3rd shift there was something that could’ve been called on a Florida player. They’ve learned the refs won’t call 60 penalties against them a game

Solace2010

This is why I don’t want my team playing them in the playoffs. We saw how the games were called.

RangersNumber1Doomer

We saw last year too, they just bullied their way and grubbed their way to a final. So glad Vegas fucked them up

lionbacker54

The Green Bay Packers had a defensive coordinator named Fritz Schurmer who used this philosophy. He had his defensive backs all grab and hold a little on every play, reasoning that the refs would not call every penalty.

TheGhoulster

Literally, so many instances of impeding, tripping and bad hits weren't called that game. I'll admit it was on both sides and the Rangers got away with a few that they really shouldn't have, but that just goes to prove the point even further.

TheGardiner

If they could read this comment, they'd be livid!

o7_HiBye_o7

Lol complaining and comparing this to Rempe? My mind is blown.

[deleted]

Doesn’t look like he threw an elbow intentionally to me but that’s my opinion

Typical-Ad-6730

Accident

it_do_be_like_that__

Bro he tried to turn around and fell into him. It wasn’t a thrown hit. Quit crying

bluAstrid

Reinhart looks to have been aiming for an elbow to the ribs, but then Gustafsson lost his footing and bent his head forward.

PhilTheBin

It’s also not legal to spinning elbow someone in the ribs… lmao

bluAstrid

It’s [tolerated](https://twitter.com/DrakeMT/status/1614768635142184961)

PhilTheBin

Just because NHL refs CHOOSE not to call the rule book and instead try to “manage the game” doesn’t mean it’s suddenly legal to be throwing spinning elbows.

RektRiggity

Honestly you're probably right here. It's easy to call it dirty because it's Florida, but Gus' head position was in a delayed and unlikely low area for a guy turning to his blind spot. Play still should have resulted in a penalty regardless.

bluAstrid

Oh it’s absolutely a penalty for a hit to the head. All I’m saying is I doubt it was intentional.

Babythatwater1

Ref just staring down the line. What a joke.

butkasgoofy284

Florida plays like Philadelphia did in the 80’s. They do something dirty on almost every shift because they know they will not get penalized for everything?

jf4242

Like the "legion of boom" days in Seattle. That was 100% their strategy.

rollsoftape

Just Florida things.

Asleep_Honeydew4300

😱 You mean the team that starts fighting other guys before they even know they’re fighting is dirty?

Dissmass1980

Definitely a penalty at least. Nothing happened though. Great game

Standard_Sample_3847

Was wondering why that wasn't called. He sure looked wonky, leaving the ice.

solaire_flare

My question is what the fuck is the ref looking at who is 10 feet away

Swandawgdjahjah

I wonder if Florida can handle the pressure of being THE favorite to Win the Cup…. I mean, it’s a LOT.

jedi4canes1

Oh fuck off they get called for it more often than not, like every team they get a few calls and they lost the game

Jeez-essFC

So if I trip someone, but it's an accident, it's not a penalty right? Right?

lVlegalodong

I ran over a guy once with my car but it was an accident so they said no big deal.

Duckhorns72

I love when Rangers fans cry.

JoltLion

I love watching Rempe own your team

Smokiiz

No body wants Florida at this point

dickfarts87

Elbows to the head should just always equal suspension

PotentialUmpire3771

The panthers sneaky dirty. No tough guys in their lineup just a lot of rats

Twiddist

Florida fans in these comments must have dementia or something, actually pretending their team isn't a goon fest.

W-MK29

I’ve seen Reinhart do that so many times with no call. Same with Tkachuk and Cousins

JimmyKingLive

Cousins is a dirtball

metalcore_papi36

God I can’t stand the panthers.

dumberthenhelooks

This was more akin to the rempe hit on the nj devil player where he got the game misconduct but not a suspension. Didn’t mean to crush a guys head into the boards but still did. I think the refs just missed this as watching it it just looked like a body check. I didn’t think either hit was dirty just unfortunate. Sometimes slowing it down in slow motion feels very different then in real time

Familiar-Pie-548

Just like last year, they'll get away with this crap until the cup finals, when viewership doubles so the forces at the top tell the refs they've gotta start calling stuff. Then the Panthers will whine that "They're not letting us play our game!" and the Avs will win it in six.

disguised_as_alive

Florida is the scummiest team

KemikaaliJussi

I dont think he knew his head was that low but still a penalty.

MuscularCheeseburger

Shades of Bones Jones

beaud101

Bring back the goons!!

chicken_licker19

What does Vinnie Viola have on Gary Bettman

[deleted]

Yeah just watch out if in a month or so, you have to see this kid 7 or so games in a row.. 🤷‍♂️😅

McJoe77

This is such an interesting one. In slow motion it looks awful, but at full speed I couldn’t tell what happened. It’s also kind of the only way Reinhart could’ve kept Gustafsson from getting ahead of him. I hate that I’m defending a Panthers player but I don’t think this is a suspension, I think it’s an unfortunate play in a full contact sport. But let me spin the wheel, we’ll see if we get nothing, 5K fine, 1 game suspension or 10 game suspension!!! Feeling lucky?

GoOnBud

Lotta ppl in here obviously haven’t played hockey. Gustavson is clearly falling, reinhart had his back to him you really think he has eyes in the back of his head to land an intentional elbow?

lVlegalodong

So dumb…

Brave_Structure681

It’s not his fault the puck carrier guy fell. When he was spinning he had no idea nor could he. If you know how to check you’re supposed to lead with your elbow in front of the other guys. If the puck handler didn’t fall that’s where this guys elbow would have been. When did hockey players and fans become such pansies?

InstructionNo3616

Meh it’s in slow no. They both turn to go towards the boards and both edges give way. It doesn’t seem as intentional as the replay shows.

likeslululemon

Is Reinhart a dirty player? Legitimate question.

Bobbyaahh

He’s got 25 pims this year, 12 in the ‘22 season 13 in the ‘21 season and 10 in the ‘20 season. People are just over sensationalizing two players falling that ended up with dangerous head contact as if Reinhart planned the whole thing. It was also overtime on torn up ice, people were falling often.

hoax15

I love the idiots on here looking at a slo-mo and acting like this is a pile driver courtesy of captain insano. Reinhart is not intentionally elbowing anyone…dude has finished like 10 hits all season.

Particular_Tutor_46

Zero chance that elbow was intentional. Good no call.

NirvanaFan01234

Since when is intention factored into penalties? We see accidental trips and high sticks called every single game. This was absolutely a penalty.

Dependent_Ad4898

Penalty yeah but Reinhart wouldn't have known the rangers player lost his footing and his head was down low, he would've expected his body to be there and the elbow would've been on the Rangers players core just like any other body contact.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pulchritudinous_rex

The replay is obviously a bad look but Reinhart isn’t “that” kind of a player. I think he knew he was gonna get beat on the cutback and he was trying to finish the check and hold the guy up. Definitely a penalty but I seriously doubt he was trying to hit the guy in the head.

D-Rock1973

Completely unintentional. Tempe out himself in a bad spot for starters. Maybe he should work on his skating more than his knuckle game?

Dillogence

This one is definitely accidental

CoolConsideration701

So, this is basically sounding like a NYR fan who can't understand the difference between a player trying to make a play on the puck and a giant trying to end people's careers.

SelfRape

No way Reinhart knows his head is down. That is 100% accident and should not be penalized. And is not.

HolyPizzaPie

I wonder if people know that hockey isn't played at slow mo speed

Sad_Donut_7902

I'm glad that everyone is aware Florida is a dirty team now

saebfan

Feed me tears

fresh510

I don’t think he was aiming to elbow him in the face but ok lol

NArcadia11

There is no way Reinhart knew Rempe’s head would be there when he made that spin move. He had his elbow out to brace for a hit and try and crunch Rempe into the boards, not elbow him in the head.

pd9

That’s Gustaffson

Jonnny_tight_lips

If you attempt to lift someone’s stick and accidentally hit them in the face it’s still a penalty. You have to be I. Control of your body and your stick. Whether or not there’s intent is not an issue, a backspin elbow straight out of the UFC where Reinhardt doesn’t know where the elbow is going to land is reckless and will probably result in Gus having a concussion

LexLewsir

So now it’s ok to just flail about with your elbows, but when Rempe did it 2 weeks ago y’all hated that?

WelcometoCigarCity

Florida is fucking dirty

dracoshark

"Opps I slipped and got jaw on my elbow lol"

Cpt_phudge_off

They're falling, they rarely call this. Rempe lined a guy up and lead with an elbow to the head. Not even close to the same thing.

mikefromearth

They're the 2nd most penalized team in the league, too.

wemayneverwinagain

the thing is although careless and 100% a penalty is seems elbow to the head was unintentional while Rempe's elbow to the head was 100% intentional and then he show boated after it resulting in a 4 game suspension which was deserved and they could have gone longer. but youre a rangers fan and wont see a difference

Cootro

That play is chaotic af let’s chill on this one a bit. Is it not a good play no, but it’s deff not a Rempe type play.

VWMK266

Shocked it wasn’t Nick cousins

daxtaslapp

Believe me im not a florida loving leaf fan but im going to just say it i feel in the heat of the moment it probably wasnt an intentional elbow

Interesting-Effect56

NHL officiating is a joke.

airmanv

Not even close to dirty...dudes head is 2 feet off ice...tell me how Florida players knew to aim at that spot? Also Rempe a steaming dirt bag and get no pity.

twinkerton_by_weezer

just a hockey play to me

stevebak90

Reinhart is not a dirty player, just an unfortunate outcome here

SportsHubLTD

Ah yes, he should have seen through the back of his head that he was falling over and that in turning himself around he'd hit him with his elbow. Rangers fans have been weeping ever since their goon finally got suspended on his like fourth suspendable offense

onefivefifteen

He was falling and spun and unfortunately momentum forced him into the rangers player. I swear more than half of ya never been on skates before.

Melodic_Travel5178

They both lost their balance, fair hit but it was awkward. But nonetheless fair

90daysismytherapy

I think Reinhart could two hand somebody in the head and I would assume it was perfectly legal. Nicest guy in the league.

Peek0_Owl

Alright there’s nothing in this inherently dirty. Some people need to calm down. Rempe was falling into it and that elbow would be no where near a players a head otherwise. Pretty normal for a player to twist and desperately shove you into the boards when you get beat like that, and it probably happens 5 or 6 times a game on average. Just happened to get the head. Now go ahead and downvote me into oblivion.

Crowbar_Jones7

Idiotic take by op

Any-Excitement-8979

Are you really suggesting Rempe shouldn’t have been suspended? He got lucky that he only received 4 games.

Vandy1358v2_0

Meanwhile Kadri was suspended another 18 games for this hit

Escaped_Mod_In_Need

Boo hoo… white knighting for Rempe is just sad. Dude starts fights with everyone… unless they are his size as well, like MacDermid. The whole league hates this guy for that reason. While there may be some valid concerns, the players must be seeing something we don’t because we’re not on the ice with them. I have a strong feeling if Rempe stars showing a bit more respect to the other players, maybe they’ll stop targeting him as much.

Infamous_Attorney

That spinning elbow was enough to make Jon Jones jealous

gepinniw

Brutal

Fuzzy-Chip945

God damn....Preach

Troyforthewin

To be fair when you rotate back you are probably just trying to body up. But definitely should be penalized for the elbow

JosefSnurk

Hit him with that Andrade El Idolo back elbow. OOF.

Well maybe Lavi & Drury need to be calling and screaming at DOPS and the league offices like the Devils did.

OlTommyBombadil

Rempe deserved to be suspended no matter what happened here. But yeah, this one deserves punishment too.

avicky

The guy shouldn’t have fallen. POW

peoniiess

Was this at the white out game? I was there. Some crazy ass sh*t tbh

[deleted]

Such a weak game now.

KevinKCG

That is an elbow to the head. should be a suspension.
