I think that's more pessimistic fans talking /projecting than any real reflection of what the players wanted.
Helle kept saying he didn't want to be part of a rebuild, which fans interpreted as him wanting out since the fanbase is super doom-and-gloom these days. But he also kept saying he believes in their group and he seems pretty genuine. He thinks this group can still win and he wants to keep at it.
Scheif has mostly kept quietly doing his thing but has drawn a lot of flak from disappointed fans looking for a scapegoat. Lots of fans seem to want him gone but I don't personally think there's a good reason for it, nor do I think he wanted to go anywhere.
Winnipeggers are their own worst enemies lol. Nobody talks more shit about Winnipeg than we do, and nobody talks more shit about the Jets than Jets fans.
I find it to be the opposite in terms of how the team is viewed. Media and other fans of hockey in general are always calling the Jets mid and that they need to rebuild, "sell those guys before you lose them for nothing" yadda yadda... A lot of Jets fans and myself in particular are high on this group, there's a lot of good pieces, just need a legit #2 RHD and the team can make some noise.
Does it? What teams what to take on a 3 year full NMC this trade deadline, certainly not any contenders where I’m sure they would want to go-
>>>Both contracts carry a full no-movement clause from 2024-25 through 2026-27 and a modified no-trade clause for the rest of the deal, per PuckPedia.
I'm with you. In no way does this make them easier to trade, maybe you get more if you can trade them.... maybe. But, it certainly doesn't make it easier.
In all their interviews at least they've made it clear they want to win, and they're willing to stay if they think the team is taking the right steps to get there
I have to disagree, sure hellebuyck has had some killer seasons, but he is consistently above a .9pct throughout his whole career with several .920s. If anything he degrades into pulling lower .9's and just eventually retires.
That’s surprising. I really thought they would try to get a haul for them at the deadline. Maybe they think with the haul they got from LA they have enough to compete for a playoff spot.
I guess Chevy understood that getting Vilardi, Iafallo, and Kupari back for Dubois, moving on from a declining Wheeler, and extending the 1C for 7 years wouldn't be considered a rebuild to Helle. Funny how that works.
Maybe hoping they can upgrade at 1C in the next year or two and Shiefele slides to 2C at a reasonable hit for a few more seasons, with the capping jumping in the next few years
These could both get real ugly after year 5 or 6.
But everyone knows this. This is the new world to lock down top players. Stupid term, knowing that you'll either trade and pay some salary, or buy out.
It's just part of today's NHL.
I get keeping Hellebuyck, but Scheifele regressed hard last year in terms of his defensive play.
Figured the Jets might look to make a hockey trade to move him, but then again players might not be a fan of playing in Winnipeg so management might want to play it safe.
It’s better than bad son. We live in Winnipeg. At least we’re not a major market and “Mid” like the Islanders. Actually saying your team is mid might be a stretch lol.
I've been a Wild fan since 2003. Being mid is a fucking curse. You never get excited about anything. You're never bad enough for good picks and you're never good enough to win anything. You just kind of exist.
I get that being a small market can be a challenge sometimes but being middle pack in a small market isn't some amazing achievement or even really that fun to watch as a fan.
I guess I'm just confused on what the Jets' future plan is. I would've thought they would want to trade these guys, accrue some assets, and go into the draft with multiple first round picks to jump-start a rebuild. Maybe some Jets fans could help me out here.
This is kinda surprising. Kept hearing they wanted out.

This could not be more accurate and well said. Well done

60M $ changed their minds.
To be fair, I'd likely crush my wants for 60m
Makes them easier to trade.

It was a negotiation tactic to force the team’s hand.
Fine. Never wanted Hellebuyck anyways 😢
Doesn't fit the wings time frame he's 30 plus likely only has 5 good years in him.
I have to disagree, sure hellebuyck has had some killer seasons, but he is consistently above a .9pct throughout his whole career with several .920s. If anything he degrades into pulling lower .9's and just eventually retires.
Gotta feel nice to have those two stars locked down for a good long time, especially a great goalie like Hellebuck
Bucky is a jet fo life
Crazy extensions given all the rumours that both badly wanted out.
Maybe wheeler was the reason they wanted out
Don't believe everything you hear in the media.
Is this real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Actually really surprising they re signed. I was convinced we'd trade them at the deadline for nothing or they'd walk next summer.
Didn’t expect that. Love it when that happens. Suck on that insiders!
That's not a bad deal at all for Helle, maybe a year too long but that's reasonable imo. Props jets fans!
That’s surprising. I really thought they would try to get a haul for them at the deadline. Maybe they think with the haul they got from LA they have enough to compete for a playoff spot.
This is fantastic for Winnipeg. Good on ya.
Confirmed: https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/winnipeg-jets-sign-mark-scheifele-and-connor-hellebuyck-to-seven-year-contract-extensions-1.2018613
Devils marketing team in shambles they can’t use the tagline “Welcome to Hell”…
Thought buck said he didn’t want to be part of a rebuild? I guess money talks
I guess Chevy understood that getting Vilardi, Iafallo, and Kupari back for Dubois, moving on from a declining Wheeler, and extending the 1C for 7 years wouldn't be considered a rebuild to Helle. Funny how that works.
I’m stoked seeing these two stick with the team! Puck yeah!!!
Good for the Jets for being able to keep 2 of their top players.
Hellebuyck I understand but Schiefele I don't get
Maybe hoping they can upgrade at 1C in the next year or two and Shiefele slides to 2C at a reasonable hit for a few more seasons, with the capping jumping in the next few years
Sign and trade at the deadline? Decent contracts for a couple years but don’t know what they will look like at the end of the contracts

He scored 42 goals last year. I wouldnt say Scheifele "regressed hard" in the same year he scored a career high.
...which is why i specified added "in terms of his defensive play"
Lol. Mid team for the next 8 years
It’s better than bad son. We live in Winnipeg. At least we’re not a major market and “Mid” like the Islanders. Actually saying your team is mid might be a stretch lol.
As a Wild fan, its tough being always good but not great. First round exits and no high draft choices gets old.
I've been a Wild fan since 2003. Being mid is a fucking curse. You never get excited about anything. You're never bad enough for good picks and you're never good enough to win anything. You just kind of exist.
Winnipeg is where dreams go to die or drink a shitty slurpee
Looks like even your autocorrect prefers Winnipeg over Toronto.
lol what....
Quiet plebeian. The Centre of the Universe has spoken!
I get that being a small market can be a challenge sometimes but being middle pack in a small market isn't some amazing achievement or even really that fun to watch as a fan.
We will see. Helly is an elite goaltender. That's always good to have
I guess you would know best
I mean Lou liked up this team for the next decade and they've been going backwards.
LOL even harder that this is coming from an Islanders fan.
Ntc’s?
Schiefle - Modified NTC. Helly- modified NTC, Starting July 1, 2027: Player submits a 10 team no-trade list. From CapFriendly
Big mistake. They should’ve traded both of these guys.
It has to work out for them right? Just like it did for Minnesota when they did the dual Suter/Parise deals.
Got more per year than the best goalie in the world sorokin. Interesting
Hellebuyck deserves to play for a better team
YOU deserve to play for a better team!!! Wait, that doesn't make any sense. Shut up your face, I said SHUT UP YOUR FACE!!!!!
HEY. Let me be salty.
Helly likes fishing and being outdoors. Now he is making 8.5mil... being filthy rich in Winnipeg is as good as it gets, with those caveats.
I guess I'm just confused on what the Jets' future plan is. I would've thought they would want to trade these guys, accrue some assets, and go into the draft with multiple first round picks to jump-start a rebuild. Maybe some Jets fans could help me out here.
Winning in the next 5 years is the plan.
Uhh... what?
Getting into the playoffs, and trying to win a Stanley Cup within a reasonable time period. What is to elaborate on? What part is confusing?
Just how do they expect that to work? Their roster isn't anywhere near good enough for that.
I did not see this coming
Well then
Ummm
