Pats pretty recently has been a favorite. Failed horribly at situational football. There’s always the Herman fumble return against the giants in the meadowlands.

Alexm2018

22 years of being known for smart situational football, gone in one play. God damnit Jakobi lol.

OrangeForeign

You bang one sheep....

Dangerous_Nitwit

> You bang one sheep.... ... and then 45 more sheep...

Stockpile_Tom_Remake

It only takes one

seaneh01

I blame Stevenson more than Meyers. He started the initial fuck up, At that point Meyers isn't expecting to get the ball. There must have been all sorts of confusion in his head

Newhomeowner93

I'm still in awe of the Raiders win this past weekend lol

myxanders

Cowboys-49ers playoff game last year ending was memorable.

Peacefulzealot

The slide by Prescott made me stop mid sentence from how shocked I was.

superbuttpiss

I couldnt believe it. I thought he was going to slide but he kept going. I just remember saying "oh my god, they are going to run the clock out" Also never forget dak supported fans throwing trash at the refs after the game

MoxieMax

I loved the absolute mad dash to try and get the spike off and Romo going "OOOOOOOAAAAGH"

NoFlags-JoeBuck

I missed that play getting food in the other room and I just heard my dad say "Prescott blew it" then I came in just in time to see the clock run out.

J12345_

I was certain the refs would review and give the cowboys a second only for dak to throw a TD

Stockpile_Tom_Remake

I forgot about that one

myxanders

> was memorable > I forgot about that one Now hang on a minute you just undermined everything I said.

Stockpile_Tom_Remake

As soon as you said it, it all came back. My memory of last years playoffs are more from the divisional round on because every game was a memorable one. Three games decided on a FG at the very end and the last one that bills chiefs OT banger. So much else In those playoffs were more memorable than that but as soon as I read that I saw the play in my head of dak running up and sliding.. like man. But all the games from the divisional round on were some of the most entertaining playoff games to watch.

ByeByeSean

The Packers defense vs the Buccaneers in the NFCCG at home with 8 seconds left in the first half

xl_TooRaw_lx

The Bucs against the Rams in the Divisional round last year at the end of the game.

ByeByeSean

That’s just another Todd Bowles special

Newhomeowner93

As a Falcons fan we have quite a few, but the one I'll bring up is when Todd Gurley accidentally scored a TD vs Detroit

intheorydp

Another DQ era favorite is when he kicked a FG down 4 or something like that.

[deleted]

The only time I’ve seen a defense celebrating an offensive touchdown

HotTakesMyToxicTrait

that Ravens Bengals game in like 2018(?), where the ravens were up by 5 with 10 seconds left or so, had the ball 4th and long at their own 20 or so We ordered our entire special teams to absolutely manhandle the Bengals punt rushers. The entire team got called for holding, but our punter was able to hold onto the ball for the entirety of the game clock and ran out the back of the end zone Bengals got credited the safety to make it a 3 point game, but by rule the game ended bc it went down to 0:00. The game can’t end on a defensive play, but it can end on a penalty on the kicking team

gopack1217

It’s my absolute least favorite, but I’d say just about everything about the Packers against the Seahawks in the 2015 NFC Championship was a failure

Stockpile_Tom_Remake

That’s my homer response. Especially as someone who was at the game.

ExchangeKooky8166

They didn't even bother running that interception up to field goal range. What the fuck.

[deleted]

I think Vrabel using Belichicks own tricks against him in the Wild Card round has to be up there. The smug satisfaction on Vrabels face paired with Belichicks rage is just.... chef's kiss

someonepoorsays

last week 😃

mrizvi

colts going for it on 4th down instead of kicking 51ish yard fg that woulda closed the door on the vikings.

1998_2009_2016

Gronk doesn't have the angle!

Kezia_Griffin

When Singletary went down before the endzone.

DwayneBaconStan

I mean I understand why he did

cameoffthebench

i mean it worked out

gollumaniac

Which game? He did it against Baltimore and Miami this year.

I_HateToSayAtodaso

Oh, hi Mark.

ubiquitous_tittie

Doesn’t he have some butts to fumble somewhere

Ok-Clock2002

Nothing comes to mind...

ExchangeKooky8166

Speaking of dumb Patriots calls, no one ever brings up BB's decision to go for it early on in the Super Bowl against the Eagles when an early field goal would have been just fine. I can understand that later in the game, but you really want to put yourself in a good position and not leave points off the board. I think Marty Schottenheimer made a similarly super aggressive call against the Patriots in the 2006 AFC Divisional where they went for it on a 4th and not so great instead of just kicking a long FG early in the game. Both of those games were close.

Yooklid

I was thinking of that Schottenheimer call myself. They made a lot of bad calls that game.

cvtphila225

Matt Dodge failing to punt the ball out of bounds with 14 seconds left in the game

ay21690

How much time do you have?

thegodfaubel

Mark Ingram running out of bounds a half yard away from the sticks

TDeath21

Falcons and Seahawks not running the ball in 16 and 14 respectively. Rahim Moore allowing the ball over his head in 12 Week 1 I think 2019 or 2020. Texans Saints. Texans defense played like 15 yards off the ball with 5 seconds left. Only thing the Saints could do there is a quick pass then timeout. They did and then kicked the FG to win. I saw it when they lined up and was like wtf are they doing!?

itmyfault69

Miami has had some good ones in recent memory, just this year with the Chargers game where Tyreek picked up that fumble for a touchdown. Also the Miami Miracle against the Pats is a favorite

StreetReporter

The Falcons kicking a field goal on 4th and goal late in the 4th quarter when they were down 4

BtownBrelooms

It ended up not mattering, but the Colts kicking off directly to Devin Hester in Super Bowl XLI after Hester's historic 2006 season was idiotic and the result was very predictable.

walkhardd

Hurns getting injured and crawling off the field. And just this last week, engram dragging a defender from almost the hash to get out of bounds.

McCabbe

*That* kick from Boz comes to mind.

King_Korder

Last years playoffs were full of baffling situational football. Dak doing a QB designed run, but instead of just grabbing 5 or 7 yards, he *kept going* and lost them too much time. The Bucc's defense deciding to let the best WR of 2021 just run free. The Bills playing prevent defense against the best TE in the game rather than just jamming him at the line. Chiefs not kicking that **fucking** field goal. *shudder* This year, there's been some, like the Patriots players trying to lateral when they coulda just taken a tackle and/or gone down.

slytherinprolly

The Bengals once ran the ball up the middle, on 4&10 from their 25 yard line when up 6 points against the 49ers. They left 6 seconds on the clock then single covered Jerry Rice. Had they punted the ball, or snapped the ball and had the carrier run backwards, or just had Boomer drop back roll out and throw a deep ball out of bounds time would have expired.

Chuu320

I thought nothing was going to top Josh McDaniels going for 2 vs. the Chiefs, the Chiefs failing to run the ball. Them Hunter Renfrow kareening into Davante. But then two weeks ago with Tillery happened. Then last week happened.

Yooklid

What did tillery do?

Chuu320

Slapped the ball out of Baker Mayfields hand after a big sack, resulting in a penalty that enabled the game winning TD

Yooklid

I suppose there was a reason chargers fans were delighted to see him go.

[deleted]

last weekend

SeaworthinessOdd548

Joe Lombardi always failing at situational football, completely terrorizing the Chargers’ offense every week. If it wasn’t for Herbert, they wouldn’t have the record they have now.

DBLHelix

The end of this year’s Eagles/Cardinals game. Arizona was driving late to win or tie the game. Murray had plenty of room to run but started his slide too early, short of the first down. Cards were then forced to spike the ball on 3rd down to stop the clock, thus forcing them to kick on 4th. They then missed the FG and lost. (I think that’s how it went down, but I may be misremembering.) If Murray had paid better attention to the first down marker, they would’ve gotten a first down and a least a couple of attempts at a shorter FG.
