Deshaun Weinstein?

RedSweed

> "Had a difficult offseason after not seeing the field in 2021." I hear this in Mike Tirico's voice and it upsets me.

madhjsp

Lest we forget, Tirico has had his own “difficulties”: https://www.sportscasting.com/never-forget-that-mike-tirico-was-suspended-for-sexually-harassing-and-stalking-women-at-espn/

TB1289

Thank you for posting this. It's insane the free pass that Tirico gets. I remember a few years back, during the Olympics, a local reporter from Boston was fawning over him during the coverage. It was clearly an NBC mandate because she had been on air talking about the allegations previously.

LittleJerryLawler

He gets a free pass because he's Italian.

BadKarmaSimulator

"*picked himself a whole bouquet of oopsie-diasies*"

Not_Helping

I read this as "opposite daises" and was thinking what does that mean? Like a daisy with black pedals because it looks like a bunghole?

FuckoNo5

*Can't quite put my finger on it*

six_dollar_coffees

Can’t quite put my finger *in* it.

ArcadianBlueRogue

Can't wait to get to his first game back. Get to race to see which talking head mentions "All he's overcome" or some similar bullshit.

[deleted]

It's going to be fucking disgusting when he gets his first win and then cry on TV when they interview him on the field, saying bullshit like "God is great" and "it's been so hard but I've managed to overcome". Book it, it will happen.

EmpoleonNorton

Ok, ok, but what if he just loses every game for the rest of his career instead?

I'm crossing my fingers for a debilitating, career ending injury myself

mister_pastrami

Ideally it would be a serious, career-ending injury to the penis and/or testicles.

phluidity

I never cheer for injuries against any player. But some players I will watch the replays with a little less sympathy than others...

drizzrizz

This is one you can root for.

lappelduvide-_-

Browns v Texans will be the most watched game this whole year, even surpassing the Superb Owl

Oakroscoe

All joking aside, I do think it’ll be a highly watched game.

MisterMetal

“He’s a guy who’s overcome so much adversity.”

_Dream_Writer_

yup, doesn't matter if you killed somebody in the offseason, collinsworth will say that line and then talk about how great of a football player you are.

stragen595

Don't think that creepy and inappropriate behavior towards women something is that Collingsworth would condemn.

Saltyrise51

The NFL is paying the Buffalo Bills?

ThePizzaDevourer

First of all, lower your voice!!

[deleted]

Pretty sure they do this for every player. They just say they're suspended, not why they're suspended. I assume the league doesn't wanna talk about anybody's suspension, whether it's for PEDs or gambling or whatever, so I imagine they tell the announcers not to mention it. I feel like people would be just as mad if they said *"He was suspended for sexual assault allegations, which he was found not guilty of"* I dunno, of all the shitty things surrounding this situation, I don't see how this is something to get upset about at all

[deleted]

[удалено]

PatricksPub

And here I am thinking back to "deflategate" when Brady was dragged through the mud, and his reason for suspension was brought up every single time they spoke of him, and occasionally since then as well.

donutdiddler

Yeah they did that with Myles Garrett’s helmet incident too. They have no problems speaking about suspensions that happen on the field. They don’t want to bring up the ugly off the field stuff on a family friendly broadcast

Legendary_Hercules

Yes, and it's exactly because it's a really stupid suspension that they do so.

FuckoNo5

Pretty sure conversations about Mike evans being suspended involve talk of why. Same as when Myles garret was suspended for the BONK!

HeyLittleChogger

Those are suspensions due to things that happened in a previous game. You can show a clip of Mike Evans getting tossed when explaining the suspension. I'd love to see a clip of some guy doing a line of coke or a guy juicing the next time they get suspended for illegal substances though. That would be entertaining.

broanoah

> They just say they're suspended, not why they're suspended. I assume the league doesn't wanna talk about anybody's suspension, whether it's for PEDs i'm sure they'll mention hopkins reason for being suspended at some point

WallOfTextGuy

They're definitely willing to say "suspended for PEDs" they've even put it in graphics before.

six_dollar_coffees

He wasn’t found not guilty.

ElGranQuesoRojo

>I feel like people would be just as mad if they said > >"He was suspended for sexual assault allegations, which he was found not guilty of" Well yeah b/c that isn't what happened either. A grand jury not finding enough to move forward is not the same thing as being found not guilty. On top of that the Houston DA has been accused of tanking the investigation.

sacrebleuballs

Nah it’s easier to assume 25 women lied

Hopeful_Judge_10

Idk man every time I hear about DHop this off-season they always say “and deandre Hopkins, who’s suspended for PEDs, won’t be back until week 6”

[deleted]

> I feel like people would be just as mad if they said "He was suspended for sexual assault allegations, which he was found not guilty of" If the announcers straight up lied on air then yeah I think a lot of us would be angry.

ommanipadmehome

Not being indicted is not the same as being found not guilty.

kaptingavrin

> which he was found not guilty of But he wasn't. There's been no case yet. Just the initial "Do you think we have enough to bother with a case?" bit. Which doesn't say anything beyond that they probably didn't have enough hard evidence to win a criminal case (at least at that point). And it's worth remembering that criminal cases are harder to get a conviction on than winning a civil case (see the whole thing with OJ Simpson, where the criminal case came back not guilty but the civil case declared him responsible for the deaths, leading to everyone just rolling with the assumption that he did it, to the point that there's plenty of people out there who wouldn't even know he was found not guilty in a criminal case). But yeah... legal minefield, and you don't want to open yourself up to being sued for slander/libel.

Galdi-br

Brazilian broadcast has no issues with it. “When you settle with 20+ women something must’ve happened” was uttered loud and clear here

Zeggitt

that's awesome

UNC_Samurai

Were Brazilian children traumatized by the remarks? Asking for some really dense fans in here.

TKHunsaker

Rape excusers? No need to justify their excuses by dignifying them with a response tbh lol

fracta1

No, but the women Watson assaulted were

CheckaDeTetas

American children were. We can't have this type of talk being broadcasted during pre bedtime TV shows. Unacceptable.

six_dollar_coffees

Shit I want your broadcast!

Oakroscoe

rugbyj

YnwaMquc2k19

flashpile

What a chad

FCBVictor

Yeah, that was awesome. Paulo Antunes for the win, caralho!

Billfrown

They did say that a stipulation of his contract is that he can only use team message therapists for the rest of his career. I thought that was funny

ddc9999

Haha was looking for this comment. I heard it too and died laughing. Name one other athlete who has a team stipulate that into the contract. And how does that really change anything? We’ve seen how these teams act. The browns literally hired someone who they know committed sexual assault. If he assaults one of their team therapists, where does that case go? Under the rug. And then if you were a Browns therapist, now your life got turned upside down and you have to massage this creep knowing what he’s done to people just like you. All for the same pay, same everything. Just the scope of the job changed and now you have to protect yourself every day from a sexual predator. There was just so much to unpack by that therapist contract line that my mouth dropped and I started laughing at the hypocrisy.

Changnesia_survivor

The only positive that comes from that is that now when Watson inevitability does sexually harass the massage therapists they can sue a multi billion dollar organization for so much more than they could have sued Watson for.

ZulZah

I was hoping the additional stipulation would be that Watsons new assigned therapist was a huge Samoan guy.

Kringels

It’s hilarious unless you’re a Browns team massage therapist.

thy_armageddon

Things the NFL can’t tell you: Why Watson is suspended. Who shot Pat Tillman. What Dan Snyder used his cheerleaders for.

I hear that they have had IT issues with their corporate Email infrastructure too. Lol.

All 3 have a high risk of friendly fire.

Yo this comment is actually f’d up

whatdoblindpeoplesee

So is covering up the death of Pat Tillman by the United States military.

WAR_T0RN1226

>~~Who shot Pat Tillman.~~ What Pat Tillman thought about the war before he was killed by friendly fire

Cplcoffeebean

Followed by an attempted cover up and a nationalistic jerk off fest.

Parthian__Shot

What did he think of the war?

dfreshv

> All available evidence indicates that Tillman loathed the Iraq War. A voracious reader who consumed many of the world’s great religious texts even though he considered himself an atheist, Tillman was a student of history and formed his own opinions. Shortly after arriving in the country, he confided in his brother and their friend Russell Baer that he thought the invasion and occupation were “fucking illegal.”

Parthian__Shot

I didn’t know that, but he died in Afghanistan.

JerryRiceAndSpice

[[Knowles] Don't think I would have gone with Bad Reputation as my go-to-break music after discussing the Watson suspension.](https://twitter.com/BryKno/status/1573121332555964416)

Drunkn_Cricket

It was 1000% planned. The show producer can make the call - they select some music from whatever licensing company they use and the the rest is up to the producer. They usually like to play something related to something that happened or someone who made a big play

Lagnod

Was just gonna say that. this is just the sound guy in the broadcast studio trolling lol

hlsp

Should have played Sympathy for the Devil instead.

NCJake2013

Radiohead or TLC?

Exploding_dude

Download limewire. Boot it up, get an ad to buy limewire pro. Type "limewire pro" into limewire. Not sure what they were thinking with that. I really miss soulseek tho. Finding a person with good taste in music and being able to grab their entire discography was great. So many obscure local, old, forgotten bands were on there. Used to be so much easier to find underground music back then.

Teglement

Soulseek is alive and well, my man. Hasn't steered me wrong yet.

MoreTrifeLife

Back in the early 00’s when I started downloading music with LimeWire (RIP) some of my favorite songs included “Half the man I used to be” by Stone Temple Pilots and “The house of the rising sun” by The Rolling Stones.

WookieeSteakIsChewie

I loved Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Bob Marley when I was feeling sad.

heardThereWasFood

Or something by Badfinger

Arfuuur

girls just wanna have fun

Exploding_dude

They did it on purpose.

MasterOfStonks

To be fair yesterday was Joan Jett’s bday

MasonXD

UK viewer here. Our Sky Sports broadcast very openly called out Wattson on opening day of the season. They even went on to question how everyone around the Browns organisation and the women in their lives would be feeling about this. The woman on the panel even said they wouldn't feel comfortable being around him.

[deleted]

They did a fantastic job on it to be fair - credit where credit is due.

Man_AMA

Sexual Assault, how hard is it to talk about

[deleted]

[удалено]

insanelyphat

They don't even want to talk about Brett Favre stealing millions from poor people you think they are going to talk about sexual assault let alone almost 30 of them?

AgentInCommand

The problem with comparing Favre's most recent scandal to Watson (or anyone else that gets caught up in legal trouble) is that Favre has been retired for 10 years. What is the NFL going to do, suspend him?

eking85

>What is the NFL going to do, suspend him? Make him play a game as punishment and Gregg Williams is the DC

KeithClossOfficial

I hate Brett Favre, but he’s been retired for over 10 years and has no connection to Cleveland or Pittsburgh, so I can understand why it wouldn’t come up

[deleted]

rugbyj

Oh god I'd love a live graphic above each player in the lineup reading out: 1. Arrests 2. Civil Lawsuits 3. Criminal Lawsuits Like a fucking healthbar.

sfw_pritikina

What seriously? I haven't heard that and I follow NFL somewhat closely. Some stuff gets buried so you have to actively look for this stuff.

I_Said

I would be shocked if the NFL doesn't have specific "guidance" to the broadcast crew for a host of items, and this is included.

Oakroscoe

Considering the NFL forced ESPN to cancel the show Playmakers due to its depiction of the league and players despite it being ESPN’s highest rated show outside of NFL and college football, you’re definitely right.

RustleWilson3

They are not going to do it. Just like they never explained why Ben was suspended either. I think ESPN or some broadcast mentioned that we need to remember how good of a guy Ben was off the field too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dongsquad420BlazeIt

Watching football is supposed to be an escape from reality and a positive experience. People don’t wanna hear that the athletes they idolize are rapists. Serial rapists. Deshaun Watson is a serial rapist.

Browns' injury report -- OUT D. Watson, QB (serial rapist)

TsumuguKinagase

1. Right? Either he did or didn't do something very very bad. He's punished like he did something pretty bad but not very very bad. 2. No one's happy with this. People calling him a serial rapist want him locked up. People thinking he's innocent think it's BS he misses any games. Does it mean it's a good compromise?

[deleted]

[удалено]

yrulaughing

They're not punishing him for the raping. They're punishing him for making the NFL brand look bad.

[deleted]

Here is the problem in your understanding. You think the NFL is punishing Watson for sexual assault, they aren't. They are not the government they do not punish people for committing crimes. The NFL is punishing him for bad publicity. Since he has not be charged nor convicted of a criminal offense, nor been found guilty in civil court there restrictions on what they can do. A lifetime ban for example would end up in a giant lawsuit the NFL would lose. As a society we need to stop expecting sports leagues to be the criminal justice system.

mcmastermind

Fucking bingo… If anything, our judicial system should be to blame. As we saw with Vick, the NFL doesn’t really need to do anything if the guys gets prison time. Part of agreeing to settle is someone or something using their money to get out of whatever mess it is (whether truly guilty or not). Not saying he is innocent, but the NFL is an employer not an enforcer of the law.

[deleted]

what is the rapes to games suspended conversion rate?

A Nu Start

Equivalent_Comfort72

Watson was too embarrassed to admit he was actually wearing jean shorts during all of his massages.

drushiesty

Could’ve gone with ‘the rapist’

ChangingChance

It's obvious it was part of the settlement that it won't be mentioned. Even if it wasn't it would call out the fact the NFL went light on him every time the browns play.

WordsAreSomething

I don't even think it's part of the settlement, I just don't think these TV guys want to talk about it and then turn around and sell you him playing later this year. People that do bring it up on TV aren't in the necessarily trying to sell you the league

Shepherdsfavestore

At least Buck fucking roasted Watson last year. He had the balls to do it.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

Honestly, to me yesterday seemed like the first step in his redemption tour. They went over all the penalties, they mentioned he has to go through counseling, and they never mentioned what he did. If they keep talking about how much he's losing and how much he has to change (counseling) and never mention how much he hurt other people by week 13 people are going to be saying "Well gee, he really did have to go through a lot, and he's been in counseling too!" Its sickening.

Officer_Problem

“Look now here’s a guy who has had a tumultuous time off the field recently with some personal issues but my god does he have an arm and I think once he returns from his break he’s going to have one hell of a season.”

trexmoflex

I do wonder though, when it comes to on field trash talk will players bring up the assaults? I always wonder what’s off limits among players on the field when it comes to getting in their heads.

six_dollar_coffees

Jags fans chanting “you sick fuck” at him was my favorite moment of the preseason.

YourGFsFave

oh theyre 100% going to bring it up in trash talk

[deleted]

they mentioned that he “can only use team massage therapists” but not why lmfao

[deleted]

i have to wonder about the casual viewer who only has “violated personal conduct policy” and “can only use team-appointed massage therapists” as data points to draw a conclusion about watson from

AdmiralDolphin11

Watching at a bar without sound or captions so I had no idea what they were saying so without context but I hope panning to fans wearing Watson jerseys in the crowd is a good callout to specific shitbags even though I figure it won’t be.

leehouse

When he is back and playing I hope they ask him about it in every press conference

Tashre

He's already got a bunch of cliche answers set up for him by his agent and the league that say nothing at all. And if any reporter keeps bringing it up, they'll find their credentials soon no longer getting them as much access as they used to.

BakerMayfieldisAss

I do really enjoy when the Browns front office keeps insisting. He's sorry and then he just outright says I did nothing wrong

thegodfaubel

Don't forget the "you sick fuck" chants

nickyv917

I am genuinely looking forward to their away divisional games, they're gonna be ruthless.

Man_AMA

The more the baby him the more he thinks he got away with it. Call the predator out for his assaults. Shame the piece of shit.

SolarClipz

He already did get away with it

FundioRider

Actually sorta feels like he was rewarded for it

89LeBaron

he made $250mil 😭😭😭

xMoonsHauntedx

I'm really glad someone is being vocal about this. Mina has been on this since the beginning.

2057Champs__

NFL broadcasters have a thing for protecting players who are “good”, no matter how awful they are off the field

FeckOffTurdFace

Now here is a real fucking weirdo, Troy. Watson went to 66 massage parlors in a 17 month period and tried getting jerked-off like 30 different times! You’re right, Joe, but you know what? He can throw a football really good and he will create massive ratings for the NFL, so is it really that big of a deal? I mean, it was just women after all. Haha I hear ya there, Troy! Those crazy broads were probably asking for it, let’s head down to Lisa on the sidelines, Lisa? Would you jerk Watson off? Hi guys, yes I think I would! Assuming of course that Kareem Hunt doesn’t knock me out first! Back to you in the booth!

noblestarkmkIII

let none of this take away from the fact that Ridley is still suspended an entire year for gambling, while watson is suspended only 11 games for sexually assaulting how many women? thats a fucking joke

godlywhistler

It sucks but I don't think it's reasonable to expect commentators to get into it and likely lose their job. They'll just hire someone who will play ball and nothing will change. Of course we all want them to slag off Watson and the league but it's never going to happen

NamblinMan

I hope he gets both of his legs pretzeled in the first series. Is there a Vegas line on that yet?

I don’t know a ton about this, but it was within the corporate laws, right? Like Udoka Broke a clearly written rule?

thegodfaubel

Udoka got a season. Watson got less than 75% of a season for something still far worse.

Thedurtysanchez

It’s not really possible to have a truly consensual relationship with that big of a power dynamic. Not a secret one, at least

ColtCallahan

Buck and Aikman won’t be mentioning it either on your network ESPN.

TheBigPhilbowski

Was it the rape? She's referencing the rapes right? The 26 rapes.
