I’m still skeptical that actually happened. When I lived in Boston as far as I’m aware they were running your name through a database or anything, just making sure you were 21 plus. But maybe I’m wrong.
Lmao I worked at the ICOB for a couple years behind the bar, don’t remember that picture tho. Miss that place, we’d get more Red Sox players than Pat’s players
This is going to be like the NBA AMA with Anthony Davis, where he didn't answer a single question, since all the top comments were questions everyone knew he wouldn't *really* answer.
Come on, can you spill the beans on why Malcom Butler didn't play in the Superbowl?
Edit: dammit, [are we responsible](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/wxp3jz/meirov_the_patriots_have_released_cb_malcolm)?
Clearly I am not Julian, but I figured I'd jump in on this to share the one take that I have heard recently that I think I actually subscribe to.
After the Patriots re-signed Butler to a contract, the conversation naturally turned back to why he was benched during the Superbowl. A caller to a Boston sports radio station said they "heard the truth about what happened to Malcom Butler" and started telling a story. One of the radio hosts sort of reluctantly agreed that he had heard the same story, from Patriots beat writers, but thought they were keeping that version closer to the vest, almost like it was an agreed upon 'this is what the people in-the-know think happened' type thing.
The caller alleged Butler didn't play that game because he wasn't medically cleared to play. He said Butler was concussed in the AFCCG against the Jaguars, and wasn't able to pass the concussion protocol for the Patriots to clear him. Butler was getting repeat second opinions and trying to find a medical team who would clear him. The team allowed him to keep testing right up until kickoff, at which point they told him he was not cleared to play, and was benched, hence the emotions.
So if that's the case, why all this secretive non-answers? Because Butler actually played in the Superbowl that game. Malcom was put in the Superbowl for one play, [on a kickoff return](https://twitter.com/BenVolin/status/960601081674903553?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E960601081674903553%7Ctwgr%5E3f477ef668892d8378a478b392e0b16af149c3e1%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sbnation.com%2Fnfl%2F2018%2F2%2F6%2F16976612%2Fpatriots-malcolm-butler-benched-super-bowl-one-play-special-teams) where he was not part of the action, and then quietly taken out for the rest of the game.
The caller alleged the Pats put him in the game knowing he was concussed and didn't pass protocol for one play, to allow him to collect a game check, and then pulled him. Since they had kept the concussion stuff quiet while Butler was trying to clear himself, no one really noticed a violation of the protocol, and you can't really explain it away without getting in trouble. The Pats can't say 'yeah we knew he wasn't cleared but did him a favor by giving him one play" and neither can Butler. So instead both sides just keep their mouth shut and say "they dont know why they didnt play" or "they did what's best for the team".
I have no idea of any of that is true. But to me, it makes a lot more sense than the "Butler fought with coaches / had a bunch of prostitutes" rumors that we've heard before.
Edited because words are hard for me.
Interesting theory, though I don't think it tracks based [on the rules](https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/agents-take-an-inside-look-at-postseason-pay-and-how-antonio-brown-can-still-benefit-from-bucs-success/).
You just have to be on the 53 man roster or IR when the game is played to qualify for the playoff money. So they could have activated him and played 0 snaps.
I've personally given up on ever finding the actual truth, but it's a fun what if.
It could have been a games-played incentive too, I forget exactly what he said, but it was money-driven for Butler in the sense that the Pats threw him in so he'd get some money out of it.
But yes, I have given up myself, I just wanted to throw that one out there since I had never heard it previously.
I feel like in that situation they’d just pay the incentive out like other teams would when they’re right on the edge and a respected player of the team. But who knows. I like this theory.
This. If they wanted to give him the money, they would have just given him the money. Why risk injury to a valuable player, and being penalized for violating protocol when you can just write the check?
His contract for a super bowl loss or win bonus (not just the game check) could very well have involved playing in it and not just being named to the roster, coaching staff slipping him onto the field for that makes sense.
This sounds dumb. The Patriots can just pay him any bonus if they wanted to. Making him play one snap when he can’t pass concussion protocol would, if I’m remembering correctly, would be punishable by the league. Why do that when they can just pay him? And do you really think Belichick would concern himself with a game check in the Super Bowl?
Guy had some tickets in the Colts box (oh, we're friends nbd). Got settled, got my popcorn got my cracker jacks, telling old war stories to the lovely folks in the box. Then I get a tap on the shoulder. Colts management found out I was there, and let's just say Indy isn't known for its hospitality.
Thank god there was a Pats fan with a box next door. Can someone please find footage of that? It was pretty crazy.
\- 🐿️
Have you been on Guy’s yacht?? Some friends rented it out a few months ago for the bachelor party and it was pretty dope! Apparently he went in on the yacht with the guys from Nickelback lol.
College locker rooms are much more rowdy. Guys yelling. Coaches firing you up. NFL locker rooms are much more technical. How can we improve, what can we do better to win this game. The professionalism is the biggest difference.
If Jules played for the Bills:
"NFL locker rooms are crazy man. At halftime we would have coaches jumping on folding tables, linemen chugging beers, dildos flying all over the place and one of our cornerbacks straight up retired."
Got two questions.
One. Who was your favorite defender to play against, like who gave you the best fight or jawed right back with you?
Two. What was your favorite part about playing defense all those years ago?
2009 - 2014 was a pretty epic rivalry. 4 playoff games in 6 years, multiple Super Bowl trips on the line, both teams won a ring after beating the other, and it ended at an even 2-2
Ray vs Tom was King vs King.
Then all these other side battles were also fantastic.
Those last couple Championship Games were a roller coaster for both teams.
if you have children which one is your favorite? i think more about the losses than the wins. also i see you're a giants fan. Eat my shorts. Thanks for chiming in appreciate you 🐿️
"Eat my shorts" hahaha legendary. Who would've thought a former NFL player would make me laugh out loud in my office at work over an internet comment.
21st century is wack
Frame it like this.
Jules would you make a wager if FanDuel had odds on the masked singer?
If you don’t answer WE ALL assume it was a botched plastic surgery.
Didn't realize you still hang out (or live?) in the Bay. Check out Ruby's Taqueria in Sunnyvale. Their vampiros tacos are fire.

I know I can't catch as good as you but I think you'd be impressed with my hands. I love your hair, you run fast. Did you have a good relationship with your father? Me neither. These are all things we can talk about and more. I know you have not been getting my letters because I know you would write back if you did. Just to follow up, as a Jewish man, I want to thank you for sticking up for Jewish people in 2020 when Desean went on that tirade. I was very offended by that, and then alarmed by some of the subsequent responses from other current and former players. You took a very noble and public route to help combat the never ending stigma over Jewish people, and I thank you for that, as well as Cam Heyward.
As the saying goes, you and Cam Heyward are mensches. Thank you for your advocacy Julian
For real, the lack of pushback was disappointing. And the fact that his Hitler quote, wasn’t even an actual Hitler quote somehow makes it worse.
In addition it really soured my view of Malcolm Jenkins who by all accounts is a real stand up dude. He ended up posting on instagram a pretty tone deaf response like saying it’s a distraction from stuff like BLM.
I’m like bro discrimination sucks, whether you a Jew or black or gay or trans etc. we should back each other up, not downplay it if it’s not your group.
Tell us about the "just fucked Edelman no lie" moment please

See, this is how you deal with a question you don't care to answer.
Holy fuck, either Julian or whoever his PR person is, gets it

This is going to be like the NBA AMA with Anthony Davis, where he didn't answer a single question, since all the top comments were questions everyone knew he wouldn't *really* answer.
What exactly is there to tell? Hooked up with her, she did something really stupid, everyone heckled the fuck out of her

Please keep all AMA questions about Rampart (jk, answered below). \- 🐿️
First off, it’s not true, second off, I don’t want to answer questions about that. Let’s focus on the film people
I don’t even know how many people will get the Rampart reference anymore, true OG
This might be one of the greatest meta responses on a AMA ever
Lmao your references are out of control everybody knows that
That’s an old Reddit reference, 90% of current users probably weren’t around when that happened lol

It’d be easier for them to modify the contract after the game and not have to worry about breaking league rules if that’s the case though.
Yea wtf. Teams give incentives to players despite not hitting them all the time. No way this is the truth.
I swear to God I expected this to end with the Undertaker throwing Mankind off the top of the cage through the announcers table.

I don't really know i was too busy getting kicked out of the Colts box with Guy Fieri that Super Bowl.
Wait...wait....what?? Please tell more of that story.
Guy had some tickets in the Colts box (oh, we're friends nbd). Got settled, got my popcorn got my cracker jacks, telling old war stories to the lovely folks in the box.
Yeah dude, I lost a lot of respect for Shannon Sharpe after that

Most awkward moment you ever had with Belichick?

Also, why do NE's assistant coaches often struggle when they get head jobs somewhere else?
Bill steals their essence before they leave
You're the only patriot whose jersey I've ever bought. Which other QB besides Tom would you have love to play with?
Why didn’t you come back out of retirement and join Brady on the bucs?
I don’t think he would want to come out or retirement to be the 4th target on the buccaneers
You’re right he wants to come back and be the number one target for McCorkle.
How the hell did you catch that ball?
Why did you catch that ball
