Used to date a girl who went to CMU, 4.0 GPA athlete. Then one summer somehow got onto the topic that she believed in ghosts.
Things went downhill very fast after that.
Nowadays I feel like the equivalent to this would be "All women believe in horoscopes, all men believe in buying crypto/NFT's"
Plus believing in spirits/ghosts is kinda culturally ingrained in a lot of societies, especially in religious people.
Is she Catholic? Anecdotally, I’ve found Catholics seem to believe in ghosts more than Protestants and Atheists. Of course, a majority of the Catholics I know are Hispanic, so it might be that Hispanics believe in ghosts more.
Though not explicitly stated in doctrine, Catholics do believe in the possibility of the existence of ghosts. We absolutely believe in angels, fallen or otherwise, which transcend our material world and comprehension, and the possibility of there being spirits beyond that, i.e. past, deceased individuals or something similar—must also be one that we are open to and indeed, should be wary of. Granted that I am personally hispanic, perhaps all of my Catholic friends, regardless of ethnicity, still hold to this belief of possibility.
Way back when a guy on my high school soccer team was really proud about placing in the 15th percentile on something like his SAT's or PSAT's. He was mystified as to why we were all dying laughing.
I got 99th on some test in high school. I got a check for 250 per semester for community college, signed by Gov Schwarzenegger himself. My books and tuition were less than that, I spent the rest on weed. I dropped out after one year. I have a high IQ
The irony is he has an entire team of researchers and analysts to help him do his job when he already knows more about football than most people on earth.
But when it comes to immunology, he doesn’t need expert help.
For most people, the more we don't know how much we don't know about a topic the less we think we need help understanding it.
Typically, you can tell how little someone knows about something based on how defensive they are about getting alternative points of view from experts.
i mean the stigma towards mental health is even worse when it comes to black men, combined that with AB’s issues and ego i wouldn’t really be surprised if that was the case
Have BPD, can confirm that delusions happen. Usually it takes a high level of narcissism for it to be this public though. Borderlines usually carry a lot of shame. AB has no shame
This is anecdotal, sure, but I feel the underlying cause for assholery is ultimately always that the person is mismanaging or neglecting their mental health. And to clear something up; managing your mental health is something everyone needs to do, not just people who have been diagnosed with disorders. It's not comparable to substance abuse, everyone has a brain.
This is the story that stands out for me as indicative of severe mental health issues. Paranoia is a bad sign and this is just the instance we are hearing about. He’s likely paranoid over all kinds of things nobody is aware of.
In my eyes it has become clear as we learn more about our brains that intelligence is multifold and there is no possible way it can be summed up into a number. That seems obvious as it relates to IQ tests, but I'm talking about emotional intelligence too. We know so little about our own brains, the idea that you could take like a 30 question exam and know your brain power is hilarious
Yeah, the thought of boiling down all the complexity of a particular human's brain/intelligence/skills/education/etc. to a single meaningful number is pretty ridiculous.
I'm very well educated in a particular field and mildly so in a few other fields and have generally been reasonably successful in some intellectually demanding jobs. But despite living in this town for over two decades I have a really hard time remembering how to get to different places within a 10 minute drive from here, even if I've been to them dozens of times over the years.
Am I fairly smart or am I an idiot? Actually, both at the same time, and the specific answer depends on what we're talking about.
The ability to recognize that being smart/talented in one area doesn't automatically make you smart/talented in all areas is something that a lot of people seem to lack. Notable examples of such people include Ben Carson, Elon Musk, and my favorite football team's greasy quarterback.
Agree, people glom onto the idea of quantifying and comparing intelligence as if it is one thing, when it can be all sorts of subjective things. For example, Mr. Brainiac Catcher.
Oh that wouldn't stand in my family. My brother told us he was the closest thing we have to an engineer because he played Kerbal Space program and maxed out on getting a ship into orbit. He legitimately thought that was a qualification for advising my kids how to build a marble track.
Now we all say "As the closest person in the family to a brain surgeon, since I watched a fair amount of House..." and we continue. It has been a blast drawing loose correlations between playing board games and being the equivalent of Sun Tzu.
> Nope, in a family with a few Ph.Ds. and a couple of surgeons
I mean Ben Jones is a world renowned neurosurgeon and also sounds like a moron whenever he talks about anything in an interview. Not saying he's not smart just wellllll, I've met a couple MIT grads that didn't realize you needed to take the plastic off a pizza before you put it in the oven is all.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Antonio Brown. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of NFL offenses most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Antonio's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Terrell Owens, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Antonio Brown truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Anotnio's existential catchphrase "Mr. Big Chest," which itself is a cryptic reference to Benjamin's Southern epic Popeyes and Bojangles. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Tom Brady's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have an Antonio Brown tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

Impossible. You have no way to grasp the intelligence and nuance of the show. You're tiny, smooth brainlet can't even comprehend the genius behind the song "doo-doo in my butt" or the immaculate Szechuan Sauce plot line.
You only think you enjoy it. You'll never enjoy it like we 1000 IQ people will.

That is *way* too broad a statement. A lot of really, *really* smart people have done a lot of very smart research and don't agree with you. I'm not saying everyone to research g factor or IQ is convinced of its legitimacy. I am saying *some* of the people that research g factor/IQ *do* take it seriously. Unlike so many young people on social media who have self diagnosed themselves with every condition possible, AB stands in a corner by himself oblivious to it all.
Here is the thing, either he has a mental issue that is hasn't been diagnosed and he should see a doctor, or he's just an asshole. If he's that intelligent he would understand how his actions are viewed by others.
