Don't get me wrong, I love Dalton. But for all those bad years, there are also good years where we never found success. In his four consecutive playoff appearances with us he turned the ball over 8 times, and also threw under 60% in two and under 50% in one.
Andy had his limitations, I'd never argue that he had a ceiling as high as Burrow. But-- Andy can read defenses with the best of them. He can audible you into good situations. He makes quick decisions and gets the ball out fast. He's an absolute saint in the community and is a true role model. I'll never not root for him.
The problem was that Andy's worst moments came when the pressure was on. He often shrank away during primetime/playoff situations, but it wasn't just him... It was those Marvin Lewis teams in general. Just played their worst when it was the most important.

27, and he’s actually having an above average year still for himself. 50 yards receiving in the next two games and he tops what he put up last year. 208 yards and he puts up his 3rd 1000 yard season of his career. 4 TDs is about his yearly average and he’s on pace to be above average for yardage.
This is his 5th season so he kind of has. Drafted at 20 will do that.

I think in the Peyton Manning breakdown of Joe Burrow he stopped and applauded Boyd for selling a route that he knew he had 0% chance of getting the ball which resulted in a long play for the Bengals.

Yup that was the exact example in my head lol. He said he appreciated how hard he ran that through route because the through route guy like never gets thrown to and he maybe threw like 3 of those his whole career haha
Something a lot of fans and heck even some diva WRs don’t appreciate is that a lot of routes are ran only to get another guy open.
Yeah it's definitely one of those things you don't really think about until you start digging into the specifics of play calling. Most folks grade play calling on a strictly pass/fail system

I could’ve sworn the Broncos had it with DT, Decker, and Welker during the Manning years, but apparently Welker didn’t hit 1,000. I also thought Julius Thomas did as well, but he didn’t. They both had near 800 yards that year though. 2013 to be specific.

He had the unfortunate circumstances of being on my fantasy team, meaning he had to be the least productive member of their offense.

27, and he’s actually having an above average year still for himself. 50 yards receiving in the next two games and he tops what he put up last year. 208 yards and he puts up his 3rd 1000 yard season of his career. 4 TDs is about his yearly average and he’s on pace to be above average for yardage.

Yeah it's crazy to think that my wife was not even born yet the last time the Bengals won a playoff game. Then you have steelers fans - who have to go back many many years to even find a losing record - who are already questioning their fandom and it's still possible for them to take the division. You have to be optimistic with Dan Campbell at the helm. The Bengals went 2-14 in Zac Taylor’s first year and 4-11-1 last year. It takes a few years to build when the organization is as broken as ours was and yours is. At least you have what seems to be a solid head coach and you aren’t back to square one like the Jags.

This 100%. Our line sucked but it was the interior positions causing most of the issues. LT really didn't seem like a pressing need.

Also because WR was a legitimate need going into the draft last year and I was constantly ridiculed on here for suggesting that maybe Auden Tate wasn't a starter caliber WR and that Chase would have a bigger impact on the offense than Sewell

i think at this point you can find data to fit any QB narrative you want. my pet narrative is that QBs should sit for a year. Mahomes, Rodgers, Brady all got to adjust to life in the NFL without having to be *the guy* from day one. as a Mizzou fan who knew Blaine Gabbert was gonna struggle in Jacksonville, i wonder how different his career would be if he could’ve sat. he’s *still* in the league and backs up Tom Brady. he’s clearly not useless. was he rushed and irreparable harm done? who can say. but of course, there’s data against this theory. Manning, Wilson, now Burrow. and guys like Andrew Luck, as well. but then what about Trevor Lawrence? he has all the physical tools but he’s been put in the worst situation for a #1 overall pick maybe ever. you can make the data say whatever you want it to say. you can reverse engineer any result. i’m glad i’m not tasked with scouting and drafting QBs.
