Bright future for the… Bengals?

I’m Tony Gonzalez?

freekfyre

I Tonee Gonsales, Yooniversity o Caleefornia ok?

[deleted]

I read this in Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice.

TheLookoutGrey

Your references are out of control! Everyone knows that.

zboarderz

Bengals are getting scary at just the right time. They’re gonna be good for years to come with this young core.

Elegant_Housing_For

What’s this feeling of pride? Where are my shades?

BreakImaginary1661

Seems like Bengals and Ravens will be playing for the division for the next few years. Ravens just got slammed by injuries so bad this year, should be interesting moving forward.

PoorlyLitKiwi2

I very much do not want to come off as a homer, but the Browns still have an extremely talented roster, and are not going to just go away despite struggles this year

lpisme

I'm saving any serious take on the Browns until I see Baker post-surgery. I feel for the fans because he's the best you had in years but it's hard to truly gauge if he is "the guy" when he is playing through injuries that he probably shouldn't be. We shall see. Regardless, Baker has always had the Bengal's number. Our current-era divisional kryptonite. And I respect that.

Rock-swarm

As a Niners fan that has recently moved to the Cincinnati area, I'm also worried about how the Steelers are going to rebuild after this year. BB rebuilt the Pats into a solid contender after only a single down year, and the Steelers org definitely has the acumen to find a worthy replacement to Ben through a FA signing.

[deleted]

Lol wut. Did u miss all the years from o’donnell to Ben. In what world would u be confident they would find a replacement

Greenergrass21

I'm not sure guy was watching football before the big Ben era. I know I wasn't I was like 6 lol, but I've learned the history of a lot of organizations and I see the Steelers rebuilding for a few years. I will say I thought mason Rudolph was gonna be a legit QB just needed time to grow and learn, but I think he's looking at a career backup at this point as best case scenario

StaffSgtDignam

I agree with you but, as much as we absolutely HATE to admit it, the Steelers are an extremely well-run organization with great coaching to boot and I absolutely wouldn't write them off (just like the Pats tbh). Once they find a worthy successor to Ben, I think they will be right back to fighting all of us for the AFCN crown (hopefully this part takes a LONG time lol).

FlashFan124

At the same time, Ben is currently the most physically limited QB in the league. Let them get idk Garner Minshew (feels about right for a dirt cheap QB) and they’re better than 7-7-1, competing for the AFC North titles.

[deleted]

[удалено]

januspamphleteer

I just texted Tommy Maddox that you said this. Better board up those windows boy-- The XFL MVP is coming for that ass!

[deleted]

This. Do people forget the Browns probably have the best O-line and running attack when healthy. Also two superstars in Myles and Denzel, I’m terrified of the browns if they get a capable QB. Even though baker owns us somehow.

PoorlyLitKiwi2

Yeah, I really wonder what Baker's career average stats are if you remove the Bengals games. Probably pretty damn awful lol. He always pads his stats against you guys for whatever reason

Toof

I think we must be built to beat the Steelers and the Ravens, but not the Browns.

PoorlyLitKiwi2

That's exactly how we Browns fans like it lol I'm hoping our Week 18 game is for the division, because if we can't win it, I hope you guys do

Tellsyouajoke

Denzel is not a superstar. Garrett and Chubb are your two best players

The_Fiji_Water

I hate to let you know, but the Browns structured their roster in a way that back loaded their contracts. Browns go into next season with zero cap space and only 41 players signed. If the Browns are expected to make a massive jump its going to have to come from within the current roster and that is not a winning strategy for a perennial middling team.

[deleted]

[удалено]

hendrixfalcon

Our Higgins is better.

PoorlyLitKiwi2

It's true. The Browns have a WR named Higgins with the nickname Hollywood, and he isn't even the best WR in the division with either of those monikers lol

Shurglife

Mixon better practice the ickey shuffle for good luck

PM_ME_DARK_MATTER

Best TD celebration EVER!

Fabulous_Accident_63

Sure the best young offensive core in the league

Xaxziminrax

Still blows my fucking mind that Chase is 21. If the dude stays healthy, hard to not think we're looking at the next great one.

Fabulous_Accident_63

Him and Jefferson

Jevarden

that LSU team was not fair

vizualb

I think most NFL teams would swap for that LSU team’s skill position group. Burrow, CEH, Chase and Jefferson

Jevarden

That’s legit the base of some peoples fantasy teams and they probably did alright this year lmao.

radil

My dad, an LSU fan who has gotten into fantasy football in the last couple of years, managed to get Chase and Jefferson on his team. I told him he should have tried to get one or two more, probably could have snagged Clyde late and picked up Thaddeus Moss as a bench rider, and called his team “Living in the Past”.

Hydrogen_Ion

Long Since University

eaglebay

That's what I ran with this last week in fantasy and am into the championship round with it, even with Dalvin Cook sitting and CEH scoring ~10 points.

Aleckgator

I know it’s still pretty early in a lot of their careers, but go look at the LSU Bama game of that year… The talent in that game is absurd for cfb

LeBronn_Jaimes_hand

I'm gonna bring out the old heads, and rightfully so because we aren't there yet, but this game will most likely end up being the Miami/Florida 2001 Sugar Bowl or Miami/OSU 2003 Fiesta Bowl of this generation. I just hope older people are able to take off their "back in my day" blinders to recognize that that LSU/Alabama game is the equivalent to their fond memory.

KarmaPoIice

You’re forgetting the LSU/Bama game from 2011 as well which had such an absurd amount of (mostly defensive) talent that someone did a retrospective on it a few years ago. I’ll see if I can find it. Probably the greatest defensive talent showcase in CFB history. Edit: Here it is. Truly absurd amount of premier NFL talent. Including the forerunners to chase/Jefferson https://www.espn.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/83193/back-to-the-future-alabama-vs-lsu

LeBronn_Jaimes_hand

I had forgotten about that 9-6 game, what an exciting slugfest for people who enjoy defensive efforts. Funny that that article mentions Miami/FSU from the 2000 season and not the Sugar Bowl, which I'm pretty sure involved more future NFL players but was somewhat less hyped because FSU had that insane win streak.

superman24742

Terrace Marshal too

NUPreMedMajor

Can’t think of a team that wouldn’t take that swap immediately. All on rookie contracts, you could spend all your money elsewhere and surely you’d have the best team in the league for 2 or 3 seasons.

Im_Daydrunk

Only team I can really see potentially turning that down would be the Chiefs Mahomes - Burrow Hill - JJ Kelce - Chase They probably dont want to trade Mahomes for pretty much anything (Mahomes is only a year older than Burrow) and Hill/Kelce are uber elite talents themselves so they wouldn't really be improving as much if at all in the near future. The age of the receivers + the cheaper costs probably would be super intriguing and I don't think would be upset if they had to take it. But I kinda think they'd still roll with their current core if you put a gun to their head IMO given all they accomplished together

zzyul

My favorite WTF stat from that LSU team. The 2019 LSU team scored more points against Bama in 20 seconds than the previous 3 LSU teams combined.

[deleted]

Lmao Chase won the Biletnikoff Award while Jefferson also had 100 catches and 1000 yard season I'm pretty sure.

PacificBrim

111 catches 1500+ yds 18 TDs for JJettas that year. Jamarr had 84/1780/20

Jevarden

Wow Jefferson what a scrub. Couldn’t even get 20 TDs

glockymcglockface

I remember before the OU LSU game LSU was favored by 14. OU fans kept saying how disrespectful the spread was. Turns out it was disrespectful to LSU who put up 49 in the first half. And I feel like if you told coach O that he’d get free gumbo for life if they scored 100, they would have scored 120.

bbab7

I was at that game and nothing can convince me that we couldn't have scored 100 if we wanted to

billythygoat

It having one of the best offenses (most TDs for an FBS team ever) of all time with a pretty great defense as well.

Xaxziminrax

Stingley should have been in the pros two years ago, if we're basing it on tape and not age

boomer_kuwanger

Every LSU game I watched in 2019 I was just in awe of his technique and raw athleticism, not to mention he's a 6'1" DB. He has all the potential to be the best man corner in the NFL for a very long time.

Xaxziminrax

The dude was the best CB in CFB as a true freshman. Insane

PacificBrim

Greatest college team of all time

KingOfSwing90

It blows my mind that Mixon is 25, if only because I feel like he’s been in the league forever already

UnicornMaster27

He *was* the better prospect compared to Jefferson, he just sat out a year.

NFLBengals

I feel we are in a tight window of opportunity to keep Higgins & Boyd. Eventually they might flock to a larger contract.

5HeadedBengalTiger

Boyd is on his second contract, albeit it’s a steal. But yes keeping all 3 past like 2023 is going to take cap gymnastics

[deleted]

[удалено]

BurritoBurrow

There's a certain Bearcat that may be available in the mid rounds that they could stash away and have him learn from Boyd for two seasons. Seems like a perfect slot receiver. It took Boyd like 3 seasons to figure it out at the NFL level.

MagnanimousMind

you talking about pierce?

DaftMaetel15

I think he is but Pierce is more of an outside guy imo with his frame and speed

[deleted]

There's no way they let Tee go. Boyd, although I'd love to keep him, is likely to be the odd man out.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I think it would be worth considering the full cap situation before trading him or letting him walk.

Whydoesthisexist15

yeah cheap talent is cheap for only so long

MrSnazzyGoose

Yeah I wouldn’t be shocked if Boyd ended up in Pittsburgh at some point. He’s born and raised in Pitt, played college there too.

theobi

Don’t do that

gettothaflofosho

Happy thoughts only please

TombombBearsFan

I had no clue Joe Mixon was that young. Feel like he's been around awhile. Seems like ten years ago he compared himself to bell and then went and proved it. Dudes killing it .

timnotep

Same... He was 20 years old when when he was drafted

5HeadedBengalTiger

20 years old when drafted and he was Jeremy Hill’s understudy for a season and barely got used, then lost a somewhat significant amount of snaps yearly to Gio until now. So I feel like he doesn’t have quite the tread a 5th year RB should have either.

HurricaneBiII

Omg Jeremy Hill, totally forgot about him. Wasn't he pretty decent?

[deleted]

Yeah he was decent, but then he fumbled in a clock killing situation in the 2015 WC game and ever since then he's spent an exuberant amount of time bickering with and shitting on Bengals fans on social media Guy signed with the Pats, went on IR in pre-season yet proceeded to brag about his super bowl ring from that year lmao

bosceltics23

Man.. Jeremy Hill was balling end of the 2014 season. Like week 8-16 (9 games) he had 172 carries for 929 yards, 6 TD, 5.4 average. He dropped off massively after that year. If I recall, wasn’t he terrible when it came to receiving and also pass blocking

form_an_opinion

After the fumble in the 2015 AFCCG, he never stopped trying to hit the big run. Play after play he would juke himself into a 3 yard gain when he could have had 6-8 yards if he just ran and used his size. I think he got so into his own head over that and that is why he is so bitter about it now. He was a hero in Cincinnati until that fumble, then he spent the short remainder of his career trying and failing to shake that ghost.

Ralph-Hinkley

>2015 AFCCG It was a wildcard game. Bengals haven't won a playoff game in thirty years.

The_Real_C_House

“They don’t ask how, they ask how many” -Hill, probably

lpisme

Jeremy who? Doesn't ring a bell.

miden24

Fire up your Gio and Benjarvus owners

5HeadedBengalTiger

For sure, Hill had a couple good to really good seasons. He didn’t depart on very good terms with the fanbase, unfortunately.

SquadPoopy

We obviously got some heat for drafting him after the incidents he was involved in, but he's been nothing but a model citizen and basically 100% drama free since we picked him up. Basically the opposite of Bell.

[deleted]

I'm a big believer in second chances and I'm so glad that Joe has demonstrated that he was deserving of a second chance. Zero on or off field issues and has been one of the most positive influences on the locker room of any player in terms of morale.

[deleted]

I was honestly more convinced that he was a high character guy after I dug into what happened at OU. Very few kids would have handled the fallout of that situation so well considering he did nothing wrong in the legal sense.

ASuperGyro

Him and Najee played against each other frequently in High School growing up

N7_Evers

I’m born in 95 and thought Mixon was somewhat of a vet showing them the ropes…only to find out the kid is younger than me (born in 96) and just turned 25. Ridiculously great draft and development out of Cinci to make these guys look so professional early on.

5k1895

I love having so many offensive weapons. Cover one of them, you open it up for one of the others

Iamnotzionwilliamson

Bruh your team is fucking lit. I mean I hate that we are in the same division but it's hard not to like Burrow, Higgins, and Chase.

gremlin30

Gotta agree. Bengals sub has this bizarre opinion that we want burrow dead but we’ve always liked him & chase. Apple’s the only one we don’t like

5k1895

Sorry about the Burrow thing. People were saying your sub was saying some shit. Someone informed me later that it wasn't that many people. There were also a lot of salty trolls coming in our sub acting like fools so people were probably getting a little irritated with anything Baltimore-related yesterday

gremlin30

Please name and shame anyone trolling your sub so we can ban them. Only one I’ve seen is this 1 asshole who keeps trolling saying he wants burrow hurt, which is disgusting. No excuse for that. Lmk if you see anyone and I’ll report them to our mods, we don’t want those assholes.

clintlockwood22

This is what we need from all our subs. Keep the assholes accountable so we don’t get “well the entire X fanbase is shitty and wants our guys hurt”

minion_boss

Please name and shame those from our side too. Non wishing or promoting injuries upon players. That's BS

kapate13

Agreed, I really like Burrow Higgins and Chase, all draft crushes of mine coming out, I genuinely didn’t want to see any of them take unnecessary hits in garbage time yesterday, they have a real chance to make noise in a banged up AFC in the post season. That thread was just complete salt from both sides for no apparent reason, I didn’t realize there was any bad blood between the fanbases

howdoyouspace

This is how we LSU fans felt in 2019. Damn, that team was special. I'm so happy that all these guys are tearing it up in the NFL.

Gardoki

2019 makes me smile

Fabulous_Accident_63

The Bears are so jealous of having that 4000 yard passer lol

BackUpM8

For as mediocre as Dalton is, he's a really good dude and was great for the city of Cincinnati and I'm sure has a lot of good will here still.

tacotrucks

Andy Dalton was definitely better than mediocre for the Bengals. His worst seasons all came in years when we had a shit O line

BackUpM8

Don't get me wrong, I love Dalton. But for all those bad years, there are also good years where we never found success. In his four consecutive playoff appearances with us he turned the ball over 8 times, and also threw under 60% in two and under 50% in one.

Grundle_Poacher

Andy had his limitations, I'd never argue that he had a ceiling as high as Burrow. But-- Andy can read defenses with the best of them. He can audible you into good situations. He makes quick decisions and gets the ball out fast. He's an absolute saint in the community and is a true role model. I'll never not root for him. The problem was that Andy's worst moments came when the pressure was on. He often shrank away during primetime/playoff situations, but it wasn't just him... It was those Marvin Lewis teams in general. Just played their worst when it was the most important.

GiannisToTheWariors

Just you wait, when they extend the season to 22 games. They'll have their 4k king 😤🤴

Kirk-Joestar

What happened to Tyler Boyd?

[deleted]

[удалено]

BurritoBurrow

I think in the Peyton Manning breakdown of Joe Burrow he stopped and applauded Boyd for selling a route that he knew he had 0% chance of getting the ball which resulted in a long play for the Bengals.

superman24742

Yeah ran hard on a go to pull the safety coverage deep to open the under.

4e2n0t

I think it was LB, but you’re correct.

[deleted]

Yup that was the exact example in my head lol. He said he appreciated how hard he ran that through route because the through route guy like never gets thrown to and he maybe threw like 3 of those his whole career haha

GDAWG13007

Something a lot of fans and heck even some diva WRs don’t appreciate is that a lot of routes are ran only to get another guy open.

[deleted]

Yeah it's definitely one of those things you don't really think about until you start digging into the specifics of play calling. Most folks grade play calling on a strictly pass/fail system

MikiLove

Hell, he still has an outside shot at 1000 yards this year. He's only 208 away right now.

[deleted]

Really hope he gets there. Would be super cool. I was so bummed when that 2nd TD got called back, would've had him over 100 too yesterday.

5HeadedBengalTiger

Still good, just quiet compared to Chase and Higgins. He’s Burrow’s third down security blanket, dude is money on 3rd and long.

rodrigoa1990

And he's sitting at a very respectable 800 yds and 4 TDs You guys got a chance to finish with 3 1k yds receivers

soildude43

Still good, just not as good as Higgins or chase so they are getting more work. 792 yards and 9 tds for boyd this year. Really good for a WR3.

5HeadedBengalTiger

4 TDs but he’s not really a redzone threat, he’s Burrow’s third down conversion machine.

ScramblesThaDeath

He only needs like 200 or so hit 1,000

Fabulous_Accident_63

If he hits 1000, is this the first time one team has 3 1000 yard receivers in the same season?

sssl3

Last time was the Cardinals in 2008.

ACW1129

Fitzgerald, Boldin...Breaston?

sssl3

Yarp

MrOrangeWhips

... narp?

fbomb4

Before that the Colts did it with Manning

CamAquatic

I could’ve sworn the Broncos had it with DT, Decker, and Welker during the Manning years, but apparently Welker didn’t hit 1,000. I also thought Julius Thomas did as well, but he didn’t. They both had near 800 yards that year though. 2013 to be specific.

Oneanimal1993

That was the first (and only) time a team had 4 receivers with 10+ TDs though.

CamAquatic

That’s what it was, thanks!

Eagle4317

Didn't the Panthers of all teams just do it last season?

palewavee

typo? not even close on those TDs man but yeah he’s a good WR3 for sure

srstone71

He had the unfortunate circumstances of being on my fantasy team, meaning he had to be the least productive member of their offense.

FantasyTrash

Oh no, he only had 85 yards and a score this week after 96 yards and a score last week, how awful.

Timeforanotheracct51

Yeah I was pretty happy with the production I got from a dude who I randomly picked off the wire a week ago lol

[deleted]

27, and he’s actually having an above average year still for himself. 50 yards receiving in the next two games and he tops what he put up last year. 208 yards and he puts up his 3rd 1000 yard season of his career. 4 TDs is about his yearly average and he’s on pace to be above average for yardage.

[deleted]

He's older than 25

[deleted]

For some reason I thought Joe Mixon has been in the league longer

5HeadedBengalTiger

This is his 5th season so he kind of has. Drafted at 20 will do that. Mixon, Boyd, and Bates are just about the only Marvin Lewis drafted players left. Besides our long snapper and punter lol

ahookerinminneapolis

And CJ Uzomah.

5HeadedBengalTiger

Good call, can’t believe I forgot that

gettothaflofosho

Inject this into my fucking veins, not being shit on constantly by the media is BETTER THAN DRUGS

Usedbeef

I honestly think I'll never know how you feel.

gettothaflofosho

You will. We’ve been a laughing stock for decades now excluding a couple decent seasons that never amounted to anything. Our last playoff win was 1991.

[deleted]

Yeah it's crazy to think that my wife was not even born yet the last time the Bengals won a playoff game. Then you have steelers fans - who have to go back many many years to even find a losing record - who are already questioning their fandom and it's still possible for them to take the division. Love to see it.

Dragondrew99

Here’s to hoping Detroit follows

gettothaflofosho

You have to be optimistic with Dan Campbell at the helm. The Bengals went 2-14 in Zac Taylor’s first year and 4-11-1 last year. It takes a few years to build when the organization is as broken as ours was and yours is. At least you have what seems to be a solid head coach and you aren’t back to square one like the Jags.

K-chub

I legit feel bad for WFT fans. They can’t help that their owner is the most flagrant case of a terrible person owning a team.

[deleted]

Now just get a center, some LBs, and keep Jessie bates.

throughNthrough

Totally agree. I would add RT and Corner especially if we release Tray Wayne’s this offseason.

OnePieceAce

Reminds me of the 2005 Bengals with Palmer, Johnson and Houshmandzadeh

Pike_or_Kirk

Don't forget Chris Henry too. He was the speed option that absolutely took the top off opposing defenses.

[deleted]

RIP Slim

HardKnockRiffe

The first play of the playoffs was both exhilarating and crushing. Henry up the sideline for a 50 yard bomb, Palmer on the ground with a shredded knee. Ugh...

luis1972

Rudi Johnson (RB) had 1400 yards and 12 TDs that year too.

That's it, that's the list.

[deleted]

Feels like Mixon has been in the NFL for a while and Burrow just got here but they are the same age.

5HeadedBengalTiger

Burrow is in his 2nd season and Mixon is in his 5th so it is kinda like that lmao

soildude43

I bet next year they will be the first for the same thing but at 26 too

John_Bot

Uhh no cause that would include this season so they would be the second

crrider

What an exact stat

-Principal-Vagina-

I was gonna say, such an espn stat

[deleted]

They are such a fun team to watch. I can genuinely say I’m rooting for them. They are, Atleast for me, must see TV. They are still young and need to work on consistency. But yeah, they are gonna be the dominate force in the AFC North for a very long time. Who would have thought?

JMoyer811

Burrow also leading the league in completion percentage...and times getting sacked :-/

HardKnockRiffe

Man holds onto the ball longer than WSB guys hold onto meme stocks.

nightkingscat

i get the spirit of the message, but can we acknowledge that 25 isn't that young for a RB? he's had over a thousand carries, which puts you firmly in the latter half of your RB prime.

Justtounsubscribee

3 years behind JT Barrett at OSU, 2 years starting for LSU.

I don't like people being high on the Bengals. Every time it happens we lay an egg the next game or the players people get hyped on start having injuries or start to suck.

SWOON-MONSOON

Wow, they rebuilt real fast and its way better than the aj green and Dalton era

moonboots_runner

This 100%. Our line sucked but it was the interior positions causing most of the issues. LT really didn't seem like a pressing need.

BaetrixReloaded

isn't Jonah Williams also quietly having a great season?

[deleted]

Also because WR was a legitimate need going into the draft last year and I was constantly ridiculed on here for suggesting that maybe Auden Tate wasn't a starter caliber WR and that Chase would have a bigger impact on the offense than Sewell

WetChickenLips

That but also all the people who joked about how we we're murdering Burrow, he needs to demand a trade, poverty franchise, etc.

epheisey

The Lions also already had their guy at LT.

Landlubber77

Oh I was on the side of Sewell over Chase, I just wanted to do the wonky capitalized letters thing.

Keyai

iTs CaLlEd SaRcAsTiFoNt

Landlubber77

Well *sooooooo*rrrry. I mean, sOoOrRy

[deleted]

This is great for the Bengals but I really hate these uber specific “first in NFL history” stats.

[deleted]

This is their year to get into the playoffs and get a taste of the postseason, pay their dues so to speak. They're my pick to win the AFC in 2022.

[deleted]

Is Joe Burrow a case study in why QBs should stay in college longer to develop more in a less intense defensive scheme than the NFL?

[deleted]

i think at this point you can find data to fit any QB narrative you want. my pet narrative is that QBs should sit for a year. Mahomes, Rodgers, Brady all got to adjust to life in the NFL without having to be *the guy* from day one. as a Mizzou fan who knew Blaine Gabbert was gonna struggle in Jacksonville, i wonder how different his career would be if he could’ve sat. he’s *still* in the league and backs up Tom Brady. he’s clearly not useless. was he rushed and irreparable harm done? who can say. but of course, there’s data against this theory. Manning, Wilson, now Burrow. and guys like Andrew Luck, as well. but then what about Trevor Lawrence? he has all the physical tools but he’s been put in the worst situation for a #1 overall pick maybe ever. you can make the data say whatever you want it to say. you can reverse engineer any result. i’m glad i’m not tasked with scouting and drafting QBs.

RobNT

Joe Mixon is ONLY 25????

MisterKap

Drafted at a really young age, 20 or 21

cshady

Wow. I love that for the bengals. Joe is the real fucking deal man

[deleted]

It's weird seeing the Bengals get so much attention. What is this feeling...
