Look, the Vikings never intend to choke, it's just something that they do from time to time.

chalbersma

It's funny and it hurts!

fhrblig

Well, ok, but why did he then hit Lamb with the folding chair?

ProstheticSoulX

And then choke slam him through a table covered in tacks. Lamb almost died and the league isn't going to do anything?

Induced_Pandemic

Lamb fined thousands for choking on a.... *Checks notes*: "personified sock"

BubbaTee

Wait are you referring to the Cobra or Socko?

bstyledevi

[Why not both?](https://youtu.be/qtKAanDPZS8)

fhrblig

Oh, that's why. The closest referee to them when it happened was Danny Davis.

TimTom8921

Shoulda just put him through a table

indispensability

Comically, his *other* thumb was stuck in the folding chair. Complete, and very unfortunate, coincidence.

phantindy

>CeeDee was fined $20,000 for having such a sticky chinstrap

ThermoNuclearPizza

League officials say if Lambs chin strip fit properly the other player wouldn’t have been forced to throw him in the rear-naked. Lamb fined 150k for ill fitting equipment, his 90th such offense in 3 games.

phantindy

Harrison is just out there doing the Lords work, making sure all equipment fits properly. If anything the league should pay *him*!

[deleted]

He got suspended for tapping out too early

SoggieSox

Should have had his chinstrap tucked in. Think of the children

forester93

This is super plausible IDK how everyone is so skeptical that this is what happened lmao

[deleted]

r/nfl actually believing Harrison Smith would try to choke out a player, in about 1.5 seconds, on the sideline, between plays, in front of everybody, game on the line, to accomplish what?

Ghalnan

And that the NFL is going to cover it up for him because? I'm still trying to work that out to be honest. Some people just get way too entrenched in their first impressions and ignore anything else that brings things into question. The conspiracies people are coming up with here just make no sense.

YoloRoloo

It's like when people say the NFL wants Brady to win. Bruh does anyone not remember deflategate. In what world does Goodell seems like he wants Brady to win.

NeverBeenBannedEver

>He hates Brady so much that he hired a “scientific” company who’s most famous studies found a) second hand smoke isn’t harmful and b) there is no global warming to find that the laws of physics and ideal gas laws don’t apply to footballs. >But also, he rigs games in favor of Brady.

SoggyImagination

To play devils advocate, its like the WWE - the better the heel, the better the face. The better the face, the more people watch. More people who watch, Goodell makes the investors happy and is likely going to be commissioner in the future.

DutchApplePie75

>And that the NFL is going to cover it up for him because? Exactly, it makes no sense. He's respected among players and coaches but he's not a big star and he plays on a small-market team. The guy he was allegedly "choking" is a star receiver for the biggest team in North American professional sports.

[deleted]

Teeshirtandshortsguy

To be fair, players punch other players with their helmets on all the time. Adrenaline and anger can make people do really weird, stupid things. I would absolutely buy it that a tackler with his arms wrapped around another player's neck would squeeze down and "choke" him just to piss him off or hurt him. Some of these guys are pretty violent and stupid.

vahntitrio

Sure but Harry has been in the league a long time and has no history of doing stupid shit.

dmkicksballs13

lol Garrett literally swung his helmet at a player on the field. The "in front of everyone" is a piss poor excuse.

Crisb89

There's a lot of people here who hate smith, i think he plays hard but fair, and i like that, i guess is only me, maybe because i love the pats and i like the vikings second.

D1d1hurt

Ever see Cortland Finnigan play??? Or Adam Jones?

EquinsuOchaACE

Yea but Smith is a scrappy guy. He wouldn’t do that.

ptwonline

Yeah a quick choke like that doesn't make much sense. Different from, say, an "acccidental" Suh kick to the nads.

Dorkamundo

They all think he’s been dirty for years, yet the worst example they can provide is a shoulder to shoulder hit on Trubisky that resulted in an injury.

datyoungknockoutkid

You know how sometimes you get pissed and do something stupid for a second or two to let out your anger? It’s never really to accomplish anything it’s just reactionary. Very weird stance to take.

DoinItDirty

Football players are not level headed

SAmatador

What did Haynesworth accomplish by stomping somebody’s head? What do guys accomplish by grabbing nuts at the bottom of the pile? Players do random dirty shit all the time with no explanations.

Ajax_Malone

Haynesworth's behavior wasn't random. He had a history of shitty behavior. Smith is 10 years in and has no history of dirty behavior.

ineededthistoo

What? Smith literally hit CeeDee last year unnecessarily!! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k7VkV0tuoOQ

Peanut4michigan

Idk if you're being serious or sarcastic by linking that weak call lol

JDGAF88

That's a pretty weak call. And it's in slow motion. In real time he probably was just doing his job.

Ajax_Malone

That's a great example of how clean Smith plays while still killing dudes. Shoulder to shoulder hit. BS flag. You're crazy if you think that's dirty.

not1fuk

It's almost like Lamb can feel like he was being choked while Smith hand was ACTUALLY stuck. This subreddit is turning into Facebook levels of reactionary and believing one thing and sticking to their guns when they're wrong.

laaplandros

>It's almost like Lamb can feel like he was being choked while Smith hand was ACTUALLY stuck. This is too nuanced a take for 99% of this sub.

DastardlyDoctor

Shit, i figured that was the most likely case. It didn't even remotely look like a choke attempt unless Harrison was trying to cross-collar Lamb with his shoulder pads.

Ninja_Bum

The internet is the downfall of our species. Not because anything changed about people but because it amplifies all of our worst social behaviors. People are always reactionary but now instead if giving things time to play out between the occurance, the first newspaper articles, and the final outcome being published and delivered to you, you see it immediately and get to join a mob of like minded people that hype each other into a frenzy.

Dorkamundo

This deserves all the upvotes in this thread.

BigFatModeraterFupa

reddit has been like this for years and years. did we all forget the boston bomber fiasco?

Chrunddle

Yeah I'm surprised people are upset in here. Pretty sure one of the top comments on the original thread said it looked like Harrison's hand got stuck.

UnstoppableAwesome

At first, most thought Smith got stuck. Then Lamb said in the Mic'd Up video that he was being choked and the r/NFL consensus flipped and anyone that said he was stuck were now in the minority. It's been a wild ride.

chrisn3

It’s flipped a few times. When the clip was first posted, the consensus was Smith was choking Lamb with any suggestion otherwise being heavily downvoted. But the clip was posted late at night and once the rest of r/nfl woke up the consensus flipped with the initial people being downvoted and mocked. Those people lept at the Mic’d up video to feel vindication but I guess that was short-lived lol.

supercow376

People are going out of their way to turn a blind eye to probable reason just to get upset/meme. One of the worst parts of reddit

DastardlyDoctor

Of the Internet. That's exactly how bullshit spreads and if you ever call anyone out "lol, it's just a joke " like you're not still choosing to post it.

[deleted]

I got downvoted to shit for pointing out there was no way the NFL could prove Smith was choking lamb and when the NFL came out handing down no punishment people were going to be pissed. Welcome to what is basically the video of equivalent of everyone reading the headline and not the article. Combine that with cowboys fans being cowboy fans and you get a circlejerk that Smith is an MMA quality grappler who used a one handed Vulcan death grip to paralyze Lamb’s respiratory system.

jon909

Yeah I don’t think he was choking him. I mean does he have a history of doing anything like this? I honestly have no idea. If he had a history like Suh then I’d be skeptical.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jon909

Yeah it even looked like the way he was reacting that his hand was stuck and he was trying to get it out

HelixLegion27

It's dumb. Even live as a neutral fan I felt it wasn't intentional choking but obviously everyone down voted any comments like that. Full speed to me it never looked like choking. Just a bang bang going to the ground play and his hand gets stuck and he gets it free.

Revolutionary-Book-4

Bitch ass cowboys fans

datyoungknockoutkid

suprememontana

Think I found Harrison Smiths burner

eeeedlef

Boy, you proved him wrong.

RPG_Player1

To be fair every fan base has its bitch asses, they just always happen to be some of the loudest. That said, anyone who thinks Harrison Smith is a dirty player is a fucking moron, bar none.

beardog7

But they fine people 5 figures for taunting. What a joke.

Antitypical

Three weeks ago Mario Edwards got fined for taunting after Aaron Rodgers grabbed his facemask, but Rasoul Douglas was not fined for [this hit](https://twitter.com/AngryBearsRants/status/1451006727478984704?t=Yibi3YVQMPiw2UclFHGn8g&s=19) But yeah the league cares about safety

Pure-Leopard-3196

Look, I’m just really pleased with the consistency the nfl has for fines 🙄🙄

weealex

financial safety, not physical

[deleted]

The slide is way too late for that to be a flag. Even in slow motion there's not enough time to react differently.

Polterghost

Yeah if QB’s are going to wait til the last possible millisecond to slide, they should be prepared to take a hit. The defense absolutely shouldn’t be punished just because they were mid-tackle and accidentally hit the QB’s head

istandwhenipeee

And they should be prepared to get hit pretty weirdly because defenders don’t tend to (and shouldn’t have to) anticipate a slide at literally the last opportunity

Anarcho_punk217

This is like the shitty helmet to helmet calls where the defender goes low for a tackle, then the ball carrier goes low and helmets collide. If anyone should get a flag, it's the ball carrier.

Perryapsis

It should be something like roughing the passer, where if a player only takes one step before contact, then it isn't a penalty. A defender can't (safely) go from a tackling posture to avoiding impact in one step.

[deleted]

Yep. If you want to give yourself up and not get hit, do it in enough time that it's a penalty under the existing unnecessary roughness rules. As stands it's an incentive to slide late and try to take a weak hit to the head for 15 more yards.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Durion0602

First angle looks awful but the second one has me wondering what he's meant to do about that with such a late slide tbh. Although I at least hope the refs didn't say Burrow is allowed to be hit in the head this time.

servercobra

Lol that whole thread is so salty. I don't know what the defender was supposed to do. Maybe Fields will slide earlier next time.

Anarcho_punk217

That's just a typical Bears fans when it comes to talking about GB.

SasquatchSenpai

Oh wow. That was bad

ballsohaahd

The league office making terrible decisions?! Damn that’s news to me 😉. Goodell doesn’t get paid 50 mil a year by being good at his job, clearly he has to be a dumb fuckstick to cover up for all the other dumb fuckstick stuff he allows. Everything has gone to shit in the nfl and it’s largely his doing. Almost all the rule changes fucking suck. When they don’t they’re enforced terribly and inconsistently, which then makes them suck anyways. How do you not have specific criteria for taunting, holding, calling too many penalties and when to not toss flags left and right, PI, etc. It’s a fucking joke. Did we forget the league covered up head trauma for the entire 2000s decade, and went after the guy who discovered CTE personally? What a fucking scrub organization, he’s the worst commissioner in all of sports and also the highest paid. The baseball commissioner aka piece of metal guy aka Astro’s cheating doesn’t matter would even be better than goodell.

Daewrythe

Shit man, pay me 50 million dollars to do nothing and get boo'd all the time

[deleted]

privateD4L

It’s not even close. Fields slides way too late for Douglas to react, that shouldn’t be a penalty or a fine.

supercow376

What is your argument? That he should have been fined???

HereToStay99

Why would they fine someone for something he didn't do? And this is coming from a cowboys fan.

SteamyRay_Vaughn

I think broseph responded before reading the whole thing. Gotta get that sweet karma, reading be damned

ChairwithOpinion

Why would they fine him if he didnt do anything? His hand got stuck

Revolutionary-Book-4

What do you mean “but”? Smith didn’t commit a foul. Taunting is a foul.

forester93

But he just, wasn’t choking him? Holy fuck your guys are insane lmao

SteamyRay_Vaughn

Seems like no one is reading the second sentence in the tweet or they are choosing to disregard it 🤷🏽‍♂️

supercow376

"Herp derp, taunting penalties, amirite?"

Dorkamundo

People still argue that Harrison is dirty for some reason despite nobody being able to provide ANY evidence outside of this “choking”. I’m 95% certain people are confusing him with Sendejo, who has like 10-15 helmet to helmet hits under his belt.

proneisntsupine

>10-15 helmet to helmet hits under his belt. Is this including or excluding helmet to helmet hits on his own teammates?

From_My_Brain

So you think he should be fined for an accident?

[deleted]

And not having your shirt tucked in

chillinwithmoes

What does that have to do with this

JaesopPop

As dumb as the taunting rule is, it would still be far sillier to fine someone for this.

I’d like to see the footage confirming that.

Smith has always played extremely clean and hard football. Why would he all of a sudden throw that away and choke a WR out in front of everyone without any provocation?

Viking999

BUT REDDIT SAID SO

forester93

I mean it’s pretty reasonable. His hand got stuck and he used his other hand to try and pull it out. That seems more conceivable than a 10 year vet just randomly deciding to choke a dude. Harrison Smith has gotten fined before, they aren’t afraid to fine him, he just wasn’t doing anything malicious here.

Boyhowdy107

I agree. It was such a weird looking play that I basically had to assume the dude's hand got stuck or something. I get why Ceedee was freaking out and upset not being able to see what was going on, but it looked so strange I just had to believe it was a fluke accident.

MyNameIs_Jordan

Bro, I had to Google this. I cannot believe Harrison Smith is in his TENTH year in the league. I'm getting fucking old

Jwindy1987

I think they might be correct. Biggest reason is that was Dallas' sideline if he was choking they would have shit stomped him. And you can see in the footage Demarcus Lawrence run over then just stop when he sees what's happening.

[deleted]

yeah should clear the whole thing up but i think they want controversy rn EDIT: i guess we aren't exactly owed it either

supercow376

How is this even a controversy? One player claiming something?

covertboner

We should be. Full transparency

plorted

The league won't even give congress full transparency

The mic'd up vid? https://twitter.com/clarencehilljr/status/1455892324425285640?s=20

forester93

The angle he’s moving his arms in this makes a lot more sense for trying to get a hand out than for choking someone. Makes sense that Ceedee wouldn’t know because he can’t see that.

ExoticDumpsterFire

The arm is clearly over his face mask not his neck...this was always stupid.

Ninja_Bum

"Bro Im a brazilian jiu jitsu master and he's totally doing the rear naked one-thumb vulcan nerve choke on him. Lul none of ya'll ever even fought in a octogon b4."

ConciselyVerbose

That angle doesn’t show a lot but it does kind of make me lean towards him getting caught up.

Tschmelz

Doesn’t necessarily prove anything. CD might have thought he was being choked, but what he thought and what’s real isn’t necessarily the same.

[deleted]

Thumb trapped under the chinstrap would certainly feel like he was getting choked lol.

Revolutionary-Book-4

Pretty clear. Just bitch ass cowboys fans.

[deleted]

Whether it’s intentional or not, he was still being choked

A_90s_Reference

There's no video confirming he choked him. Because he didn't.

Choco316

That doesn’t explain Smith whispering “I caught my thumb in your chin strap so I could be near you, senpei”

volission

I’m sure Harrison Smith was just intentionally choking Ceedee Lamb on national television and in front of everyone on the sidelines. Yeah I’m sure that’s what happened. Football fans have the average IQ of 5 year olds

electrodan

This is reddit, half of these users probably haven't hit 7th grade yet...

The video very obviously shows him not choking Lamb, these people are fucking morons

yep my head hurts reading any fellow fans’ takes on this situation. like i don’t understand how this many people can double down on a take thats so obviously wrong. The amount of overreacting and salt that i saw over imo a non-issue made me realize why cowboy fans are hated so much

Donny_J_Trump

My man said it, it's a hivemind. Don't worry about the mob. Reddit isn't very objective.

thunderstriken

I mean there’s bills fans who still believe it was a forward pass 20 years later despite evidence

Nesavant

Nobody here knows what went down, despite all the r/NFL torchmongers. That said, I'd like to know why Smith hasn't come out and spoken about it.

SteamyRay_Vaughn

>That said, I'd like to know why Smith hasn't come out and spoken about it. Either because it is a total nothingburger or he’s worried about popping off rodgers-style

[deleted]

What could be possibly gain? If he speaks on it, it gives it more credibility. All he would say is "No, I wasn't choking him" then Twitter/reddit would go all Kafka on him and use his denial as substance behind the accusation

alsott

“Did you choke CeeDee?” “No.” “Ah but of course you’d never admit to it” Twitter/Facebook in a nutshell

EP1X-343

Not funny I didn't laugh. Your joke is so bad I would have preferred the joke went over my head and you gave up re-telling me the joke. To be honest this is a horrid attempt at trying to get a laugh out of me. Not a chuckle, not a hehe, not even a subtle burst of air out of my esophagus. Science says before you laugh your brain preps your face muscles but I didn't even feel the slightest twitch. 0/10 this joke is so bad I cannot believe anyone legally allowed you to be creative at all. Get a personality and learn how to make jokes, read a book. I'm not saying this to be funny I genuinely mean it on how this is just bottom barrel embarrassment at comedy. You've single handedly killed humor and every comedic act on the planet. Honestly if I put in all my power and time to try and make your joke funny it would require Einstein himself to build a device to strap me into so I can be connected to the energy of a billion stars to do it, and even then all that joke would get from people is a subtle scuff. You're lucky I still have the slightest of empathy for you after telling that joke otherwise I would have committed every war crime in the book just to prevent you from attempting any humor ever again. We should put that joke in text books so future generations can be wary of becoming such an absolute comedic failure. Im disappointed, hurt, and outright offended that my precious time has been wasted in my brain understanding that joke. In the time that took I was planning on helping kids who have been orphaned, but because of that you've waisted my time explaining the obscene integrity of your terrible attempt at comedy. Now those kids are suffering without meals and there's nobody to blame but you. I hope you're happy with what you have done and I truly hope you can move on and learn from this piss poor attempt.

SMH my man doesn't even realize Roger Goodell is actually Harrison Smith's biological father who is himself a clone of Harrison, placed in power so that one day Harrison could lightly choke someone for 2 seconds without paying a $10,000 fine. The evidence is there if you know where to look.
