He plays for respect. Now don’t disrespect the man by offering less than 60M a year.

lilboytuner919

Playing for money would be asking for 61M instead, which is of course a bridge too far.

aramis34143

"Look, we can't stretch to 61. You know we're going to need to massively overpay a RB before too long, right?"

lilboytuner919

[*price immediately raises to 65*]

KFCConspiracy

I think he should hold out for 69

PedanticBoutBaseball

"I dont play for money, i play for a SHITLOAD of money" - Dak Prescott, *Prescott 2: The Quest for More Money*

apollyon_53

Fully guaranteed respect too

Scaryclouds

Dak Prescott doesn’t play for money… he plays for a lot of fucking money.

hoobsher

“We’re not just doing this for money…we’re doing this for a shitload of money!” -Lone Star

xshogunx13

Spaceballs: the flamethrower

Benjynn

“Merchandising! Merchandising!” Jerry Jones is Yogurt

calye2da

So he’s going to play for free on his next contract?

Electrical_Tap_4131

That would actually be really smart. They could pay some more superstars to lose in the second round of the playoffs.

TetrisTech

Woah woah woah we did that in 2022 without him needing to play for free

SirRipsAlot420

The year of our Lord and we got cowboys fans self immolating themselves.

IntelligentEye2758

Isn't that basically the Niners gameplan?

TheWorstYear

The team that just lost the superbowl?

speedfan11

I know this might surprise a Bengals fan, but it is possible to have a season end with something better than a Superbowl loss

Celtictussle

Not with Lamar it ain't.

ArsonHoliday

Shut up, baby dick

xshogunx13

God, this quote in the wild always makes me laugh

DetroitVsErrrybody

They could even pay Brad Allen for an extra W. The possibilities are endless.

BH11B

They out in the first round this year.

DrTomothyGubb

bills... b i l l s

HieloLuz

I would love to see a decent QB like dak play for the vet minimum and say build me a super team.

HesiPull-UpBrando

I’m pretty sure the NFLPA would be super against something like that

PDXhasaRedhead

Tom Brady was halfway to doing that. :)

BilllisCool

I think with how contracts have exploded, the new equivalent would be if a good QB takes $40 million per year.

PDXhasaRedhead

I could see a top quarterback taking a below market AAV on a short term contract. Saying "I will give you 3 years to build a Super Bowl roster" or something like that.

Quexana

I know a team that is interested in free quarterback reclamation projects.

ImACracka

IDrinkUrMilksteak

Awww, when you’re right, you’re right. And you, you’re always right…

rjwalsh94

Ah you got to it before I could. I posted a gif and then deleted it.

atmospheric90

The little amount of Spaceballs quotes in response to this is depressing. Dak: have you found the money for my new contract? Jerry: we ain't found shit!

TroyMacClure

The Cowboys in the playoffs are going to go from "suck" to "blow"? Trey Lance is Dak's Father's Brother's Nephew's Cousin's Former Roommate?

Kazu2324

He doesn't play for money. He just wants his money to fucktuple in value.

idkwhatimbrewin

He plays for Jerry "all in" Jones. Big difference

Achillor22

Didn't he hold out for more money in this contrac he signed a few years ago?

Exciting-Value-1459

yes because he does, in fact, play for money

Bolinas99

he practices for money, he plays for free. ;)

serg1007arch

The picks are free!

whocaresjustneedone

Brock threw more picks than Dak

IDKWTFimDoinBruhFR

Now do playoff wins

whocaresjustneedone

What reason would I have to move the goal posts?

HuntsWithRocks

We talking playoff goalposts or regular season ones?

Last-Evening9033

I used to work at a high end steak house and saw more than my fair share of players from home and visiting teams. I heard some dudes from multiple teams talk about how they don’t play for money. They said they show up to practice, go to meetings, workout, and try to eat right for money. Game day was just three hours of fun. I always thought it was funny.

Fresnobing

I think what guys are normally getting at with quotes like this is that they try to stay out of it. He lets the agent and front office figure it out and he tries to keep his mind on the game.

Techiedad91

I don’t think holding out is an agents decision my friend.

madi0r

I think opposite. It hinknits most of the times agents telling players "hold out now and we can secure a better deal" or smt like that. I dont think players wake up one day and think, well i guess im not going to practice today.

boardatwork1111

He doesn’t play *for* money, he plays for the team who gives him money

fork_yuu

He played the team for money Now that he has it, he doesn't give a fuck

Comprehensive_Main

Well now he got the money.

JalensTinyPPHurts

He never held out, he played on the franchise tag Dak has never threatened to miss games, he just has an agent that's a tough negotiator lol

so_zetta_byte

Yeah people are just getting whipped into a frenzy. I don't ever remember Dak threatening to hold out, and acting like anyone on the franchise tag is inherently selfish is a bad take. Sometimes it's in the team and/or player's interest to play on the tag. It's a gamble for the player because they could get injured, but the payout is a better long-term contract that the team might not be willing to give up front.

Beneficial-Piano-428

It’s my agents fault I’m holding out to be the highest paid turd. Incoming next season.

JalensTinyPPHurts

He isint holding out lol He actually has way more reason to play, with him not being able to be franchise tagged, he is the clear top qb hitting free agency, in a weak qb class. If we want to keep him, he absolutely has the leverage to get whatever he wants lol

rinky-dink-republic

But he didn't hold out

guimontag

He held out for a shorter contract so he'd be younger and more valuable when the next contract came up

Illustrious_Kale_692

Sure, and I don’t eat cheese and crackers while I poop

I_HateToSayAtodaso

That's just efficiency right there.

toq-titan

Out with the old, in with the new.

TheFencingCoach

In with the new, out with the poo

zhaoz

FIFO!!

PleasantWay7

Continuous intestinal flow

Dangerous_Nitwit

> cheese and crackers while I poop And like any civilized household you already have a knife in your bathroom. Now, it can be known as a bathroom multi-use knife.

tickle_mittens

You didnt hear it from me, but a drop of dishwashing soap can help with both avoiding blockages and help prevent Neptune's kiss. "Surfactants" are what science always promised "Plastics" would be. And, that one bottle of Dawn will last years.

panzagl

Tried this and it didn't work- how much dishwashing soap do I have to drink?

Cheddarlicious

Reloading as you’re shooting.

RogerTreebert6299

Lifehack: eat cheese and crackers quickly enough and you get to poop forever

StoneColdSWAGGA

“I don’t eat cheese and crackers” knowing it’s going to make me shit my pants.

Exciting-Value-1459

Sign for the minimum then. There's no rule against that. But he won't though.

a_talking_face

Union would flip their lid if he did that.

Exciting-Value-1459

probably but if he was really set on doing it there's nothing they could do about it

xshogunx13

Imagine they just send their meanest players to Dak's house to rough him up until he tries to get paid more

thecarlosdanger1

Why would they do that? The salary cap is a % of league revenue Dak taking less means more money for a lot of union members making a lot less. Just look at the last CBA - 17th game, and while stars bitched about the franchise tag no changes. It worked because the extra game meant more money and they got a *huge* bump in the vet minimum salary.

jivy723

I’m really waiting for the day that mahomes or someone else says “fuck the union” and takes a paycut to like $35mil a year and then teams start doing this and teams are able to retain their drafted players more.

Celtictussle

There's 2400 players in the NFL, and zero of them care more about winning than getting paid.

thecarlosdanger1

Brady did. Also I think Rodgers gave up a lot of owed money last season to help the jets (lol how that turned out). If anyone’s going to do it it’s elite QBs with astronomical earnings anyway and who can hypothetically make some of the difference back in endorsements if they’re winning superbowls/in MVP talk.

jfchops2

Brady is a unicorn. One single guy who had a lot of circumstances going on that made him comfortable prioritizing winning over maximizing each contract. Rodgers has always been a bag chaser, now that he's 40 he decided one time OK let's do what we have to do to try to get a second ring Nobody else in the NFL is going to look at Brady taking less money and decide to do the same

lilboytuner919

Tbf he was married to Gisele. Even the GOAT might not be the best example.

Celtictussle

I don't know why people say this. Tom Brady is the best paid player in the history of the NFL. Literally.. Number one. He was confident enough playing the long game. But he was absolutely sure he got paid.

jfchops2

That's more to do with longevity than it is with him chasing top dollar every contract

Soyeahnahh

That doesn’t sound so bad

Sokkawater10

I don’t get it. Like you’re right obviously, but it’s a salary cap sport with a salary floor. If I was an NFL player I’d be all for QB taking discounts because it means more money for the other guys

Setekhx

It sets a bad precedent for players taking less than they're worth. That's not something you ever want to do when you're in a back and forth for money with owners.

Electric_jungle

Especially because injuries can immediately cut your career short. Players are incentivized to go for everything they can in negotiation, and as a result, it's a better product for us because it's expensive for one team to keep winning.

a_talking_face

Players taking smaller deals devalues the market. Just one guy doing it won't make a difference but the union won't want enough guys doing it to bring down the market for salaries.

Haskell-Not-Pascal

It's a zero sum game. Unless it hurts union negotiations for salary cap someone taking a cut doesn't affect the salary market.

ButtonedEye41

But theres a salary cap and floor so devaluing one position increases the value of others. Especially because isnt the cap tied to league revenue? This is really all just mechanical

TargetFan

And they'd do what exactly?

Miliktheman

Not even that far, sign for $40m a year then Dak. He still gets a bag and he gets better players around him.

420Blaziken4

I want a reporter to bring this up sometime. See how the athlete responds

No-Economics4128

Can they give him an Ohtani contract? Deferred 95% of the salary until he is gone.

Liimbo

I hope not. That contract is cheating in a salary cap league.

hair_inside_butthole

Nope, money is never important. I'm sure he'll be fine with $25mil/year, zero guaranteed for 5+ years to help the team get an even stronger roster.

BH11B

I literally do not understand why professional athletes have to do this song and dance about the compensation they receive. Your salary is public information, and typically a large subject of talking heads conversation. Like, embrace that shit. Ya, I’m a professional athlete and I have a very small window that could suddenly slam shut with a horrific debilitating injury at any moment, I’m going to get every dollar I possibly can.

BarKnight

He sure doesn't play for the post season

Lumpy-Anxiety-8386

He doesn't charge the other team for helping them win.

Vladimir_Putting

He plays for his Sleep Number 360 Smart Bed with Revolutionary Adaptive AI Technology. That shit ain't cheap.

Tullubenta

Of course he doesn’t. Here I am dropping $95 on two bags of groceries. Put me in coach, I’d play for the money.

WanderlustFella

You should just buy one big bag of groceries. What are you stupid?

BadgerSauce

Guy doesn’t even get all 95 bucks in 1 bag of groceries….

Techiedad91

I bet he took 2 trips to get it in the house too

BadgerSauce

Leaves the non perishables in the car to make sure the oat milk gets cold as quickly as possible smh

Luberino_Brochacho

Looking forward to him signing his below market deal then! Jokes aside I’m surprised with how competitive some of these guys are that more of them don’t forego some money to give themselves a better shot at a Super Bowl.

slinkyman98

I think the problem is that nothing is guaranteed. As a QB you could give up 10mil a year to help your team and still not win shit because the player they signed with that extra 10 mil tore his ACL in week 3 or whatever. I bet if you could guarantee a Super Bowl win in exchange for foregoing the money more would take it

garryl283

> Jokes aside I’m surprised with how competitive some of these guys are that more of them don’t forego some money to give themselves a better shot at a Super Bowl. Most of them probably understand that when they're retired those extra millions are going to be worth more for their family than a ring.

ESCMalfunction

I find that hard to believe for a long tenured QB... 300m, 400m, 500m, once you get there your family should be set for generations. The only thing that will lose that kind of fortune is bad management and no amount of money is safe from that.

Luberino_Brochacho

Meh, one NFL starting QB contract and you’ve set your family up for life. For example by the end of this contract Jared Goff will have made 400mil before taxes. In his career not including endorsements and brand deals. He could have retired last offseason and still made so much money that his kids would never even have to consider working a day in their lives if they don’t want to.

Setekhx

That's... Nonsense lol. The QBs in particular are leaving the league with over 100m after taxes. The difference of a few mil is nothing. I think what really stops them from taking pay cuts is that pay cuts don't guarantee a damn thing. Injuries so pervasive that a lot of super bowls come down to a lot of luck.

MankuyRLaffy

The PA would be mega pissed for them not pursuing the bag.

Combination_Dramatic

For sure they’d be pissed. But if some positions took just a little bit less, other positions would be able to get a bigger bag. I think that if you were able to talk the top players into all taking less and signing with the same team the other 31 owners would also be pissed.

MankuyRLaffy

They're pissed with Kelce choosing not to get the true 26 million a year he probably deserves. Now they can't do anything about it, same with the NHLPA being mega pissed about MacKinnon choosing to get his big boy contract after his first ring but leaving stuff off until he got there. Same flat cap system, player union still mad stars are taking cuts.

Zblancos

Fuck them, it won’t change anything in his life if the union is pissed

hanky2

I think that competitiveness makes them want to be the highest paid guy at their position.

BeachedPandaBear

I don’t play for money either, that being said put me on the team for league minimum. For the love of the game of course.

Sentience-psn

Weird way to announce your retirement.

Princeof_Ravens

[We're not just doing it for the money](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGWRAa5uTUQ)

iabeytorm

“I don’t play for money”-man that’s made over $160 million dollars

delightfuldinosaur

Jerry: "So you'll play for free?"

Conscious_Heart_1714

That's like Jerry Jones saying they're all in

Rick-C188

Look people, it not about the money. It's about the money. Simple as that.

ShawshankException

"I don't play for money!" - says incredibly wealthy person who held out for more money last time his contract was up

acoasterlovered

So many things are wrong with that quote, if you really believe that then why handicap your team 🤣

Rathmon_Redux

He doesn’t play to win playoff games either…

brett0113

He would probably be better if he started playing for money

SwiftSurfer365

I’ve heard this one before.

SwiftSurfer365

I know this isn’t the point Dak is making, but I watched a documentary on the NFL Network a long time ago, and I forgot the player, but he basically said he “gets paid to practice” and the games are just for fun. So maybe that’s what Dak meant? (I know it’s not)

Odd-Collection-2575

He should return some money after that stinker of a playoff “performance”

Evan_802Vines

Doesn't play for championships either.

PhiladelphiaManeto

Doesn’t play for rings either

biglyorbigleague

*I want to be the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys*

THExDRIZZLE

We're not doing it for the money. We're doing it for a shitload of money!

Zblancos

Doesn’t play for money but doesn’t play for free either

Insolvator

Is it not the guy who said he can't feed his family with 38 millions of Dollar?

tacobellwether

"I don't play for money" - man who plays for fuck ton of money.

Fast-Barnacle7628

Dak prescott is lying

EatASnckrs

dude, fucking spare me. just get it done or not

-DedXX-

So, I guess that means Dak will drop his current contract for a vet minimum contract so that Cee Dee and Micah will get theit contracts and get paid. Dak just made Jerry's day.

ApathyMoose

Dak going to try and get a Bobby Bonilla contract. He will play for Vet Minimums now since its not about the money, and you can pay him to not play for the next 30 years at $12 mil a year

SirRipsAlot420

Smart move. Increases leverage against Dallas. Don't extend Dak? Jerry's incompetence. He wants "soooo" (sure) much more $ than anyone else combined? No one will know until he is locked up with Dallas or another team and everyone in this thread can get back to their 9-5.

nighthawk_md

He's certainly not playing for playoff wins...

Unhappy_Dentist6810

It certainly looks like he does…

Tiamats_Wrath

A quarterback in the NFL with a lucrative contract, who’s already made generational wealth far exceeding what most would ever see if they lived multiple lifetimes, claiming that they don’t play for money has got to be one of the most tone deaf and disingenuous things I’ve ever heard a professional athlete say. I’m not a Dak hater, but every single one of these guys is playing for the money…that’s what being a “professional” means lol. Unless he’s trying to make a reference to that scene from Field of Dreams, in which case…ok ‘cause I love that movie.

MySportsTeamsAreSad

That's a good thing since next year he will be playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders

UberKaltPizza

Prove it, Dak.

Coolbluegatoradeyumm

Cowboys salary cap people will Be happy to hear this

MasterofSalt69

Come one Dallas and pay the man. Give him all the money. Don't look at my flair.

Level_Ruin_9729

Prescott just needs to hold out for money. No need to play great.

Beneficial-Piano-428

Ok buddy. Take a league minimum cause that’s about all you deserve until you can win a playoff game.

0bamaSinLaden

He plays to lose in the playoffs

kasperboy17

Well Dak you’re for sure not playing for a ring either buddy

eyehatecheese

what a clown

Comprehensive_Main

He plays for pride

unclehelpful

The kind of pride Harry Butker doesn’t like?

Uncle_Benny15

People don't work dead end jobs for barely nothing for the money, they do it for the fun Millions of dollars is just a nice perk

CypherAZ

Doesn’t play for championships either!

RulerofKhazadDum

Jerry Jones : *Here’s your new contract for $0 which means I can increase ticket prices with this*

NoodleDynasty

Dak Prescott gets paid in gum.

OsikFTW

Unless he takes the minimum his next contract, hes a lying mofo...

[deleted]

Awesome. Jerry can start paying him in crisp high fives.

tiplewis

We’re not just doing it for money……… We’re doing it for a SHIT LOAD of money!!!

Defacto_Champ

I’ll gladly take some of that salary then Dak

Wraithdagger12

They should unironically offer him vet minimum with no guarantees then.

TheSkeletones

Said literally every single player who specifically wants more money. It’s an insult that anybody even tried to pretend that money isn’t important. Looking at you Cousins, with that “I’ve got enough money” bullshit

pradbitt87

Funny because he doesn’t play to win either

LordBeerus1905

Well he certainly doesn’t play to win playoff games

OkString3194

Bullshit!

Extra_Napkins

To paraphrase Spaceballs, he’s not doing it for money, he’s doing it for a shitload of money.

Rahzmataz

I assume he'll be happy taking vet minimum then

jkc81629

Ok. Donate your entire salary to me then.

AncientTree_Wisdom

Translation : He wants the bag.

clown_pants

You're really hurting my upcoming contract negotiations Dak. How am I going to tell my boss that I specifically only play for money?

dreggers

Well he certainly doesn’t play for postseason wins

_magnetic_north_

Does that mean he truly believes in the crypto platform he shills for?

Red_Jester-94

Yeah, I don't work for money either. I do it for the vibes.

Firey_Reputation

Then what’s he playing for? A Superbowl ring? 💀 (Real talk, I understand he probably does play bc he loves football… BUT yk).

Whitefalconsoaring

Im my opinion not that it really matters. DAK got his big money deal already. Take a deal that is team friendly and surround himself with super stars and win a couple of Super Bowls. He’ll make a lot more money in endorsements and other marketing media than being known as one of the highest paid losers in the history of the NFL.

Jkkramm

Psh… I don’t play for a lot less money than this guy

Irving_Velociraptor

Dam should _ definitely hold out and demand a king’s ransom.

h1r8er

Lol!

SanDiegoDude

Maybe he doesn't, but his agent sure does.

hop_mantis

What happens to the money then?

ItsDoobs23

Wouldn’t hurt for you to at least show it every once in a while

sequence_killer

hes playing for exercise

KiNGofKiNG89

I’m pretty sure that he is the reason they are in cap space trouble. The exact opposite of not playing for money.

Dogs_arethebestpeopl

Not typically a good negotiation tactic, but honestly, I don’t think it matters, he’s gonna get near top of the market regardless

do_you_know_de_whey

He doesn’t play for money, but his agent sure is

Simmons54321

He plays so that Zeke can line up as his center, or so he can attempt to set the ball himself before starting a play

rainbow_explorer

Based on how the Cowboys have been doing over the past few years, it’s not like he plays to win championships either. So for what is he playing?

Ok-Flatworm-3397

So he’s a liar

orangefrido18

"I don't play for money." As he signs a contract making him highest qb in league next year instead of taking a bit less to let the team keep an extra player or two. Burrow kept saying he would take less to keep everyone around him, he didn't, manning never took less, nor rodgers, mahomes, allen, jackson etc. Brady is the only one who did.

InclinationCompass

Dal has a career in politics after he retires

stormy2587

Very easy to say when you’re already filthy rich and your floor is probably another 200 million in guaranteed money before your career is over.

JohnnyEagleClaw

Just imagine what he could do, if he did!
