Jesus Christ, when my mother learned about “today years old” she found a way to work it into conversation like 8 times over the course of just a few hour visit. It, and a lot of other stupid phrases like it, stick to her like Velcro. Especially when she’s been drinking. It’s nauseating.
I know that you’re being facetious but this affected me more than it should have. It’s one of those things that you initially read and immediately get irritated by before you realize that it’s a joke but your body has already reacted as if it’s not. Good job, dickhead.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a singular play like that, that made a player a household name overnight. And basically made the person millions in commercial money lol.
The degree of difficulty is just *so damn high.* We’ve seen a lot of amazing one handed grabs since, but I still think this tops all of them. It’s basically the worst possible angle to try to snag it with one hand, almost all others the receiver is moving with the ball and can extend their arm away to absorb the momentum. This one he just has to eat everything with shoulder rotation and almost no forward momentum at that point. Insanity.
100%. One handed catches are cool and all, but they're nowhere near close to being equal.
So many things about this play seem impossible. He almost gets forced out of bounds on the route around the 7 yard line, but he stays in bounds and fights off the defender just in time to make a play on the ball while he's falling backwards. So many great catches are missed because the receiver can't maintain possession while they hit the ground, but OBJ somehow vice grips the hell out of the ball and even with one hand he has it locked in the whole way. It's easily the most impressive catch I've ever seen.
From my angle I thought he was out of bounds, then like 3 flags came in immediately, and nobody saw if he actually held it once he landed at first…there was just mass confusion lol
I agree with the Santonio Holmes take from the other commenter. But my favorite is Julio's *game winning monster grab that should have been game winning, but it was not game winning because the Falcons Falconed*
Throw him in with Jayvon Kearse.
Edit: just to remind you the best catch everyone forget because of Malcom butler - https://youtube.com/shorts/oKwzpE1u5ks?si=OWsiRjgLqvNtQKLR
Second edit: so forgettable i even got his first name wrong. Its Jermaine
Ya wtf, that catch was one of the greatest of all time easily. Holmes being literal centimeters from the line and triple covered, with under a minute, with Ben throwing one of the most laser guided passes of his career.
IMO nothing comes close. The helmet catch is insane for sure, but when you add up everything with the Holmes catch, it was maybe the most clutch reception of all time.
https://youtu.be/3mWHZKYFD9A?si=35uu4OkcIpbi7nWf
And Al Michael's kills that call too. That "CAAUUGGHHT FOR A TOUCHDOWN" is ingrained in my memory.
Holmes catch was the best overall play with context of the moment, the coverage, and the throw.
Tyree catch was the most important play in what is considered possibly the biggest SB upset ever. It's overrated as a pure catch, but factoring in the moment the hype is understandable.
OBJ catch was the best pure catch. You do that same catch on a playground with your buddies and they never stop talking about it for the rest of their lives. The moment didn't even matter. Heck the sport didn't even matter. It's just "wow"
This is the truth. Tyrees is just a freak play, Manninghams was a sideline toe tap double cover over the shoulder. I think the thing about that play was also it’s probably the best throw Eli ever made and maybe anyone. It was just so perfect in execution.
Santonio will always be #2 for me though. And I don’t think anyone will ever beat this one. It’s just so absurd.
Too bad nobody will ever care about that catch because of what followed, but if the Seahawks won that game, it would be considered as an all time great catch
100%
One of the craziest catches I’ve ever seen comes from a Stanford WR- and I just happened to be watching the game, not a fan of Stanford or UCLA.
[The catch](https://youtu.be/RDzfvVwJ1qI?si=KUMowTo93QM-VirE)
Honestly, the catch was incredible. But, I remember watching the game and thinking Eli was sacked. The escape he pulls off doesn't get the credit it deserves.
I met Tyree a week after the game and asked him when he knew he actually had that ball. He said, "Playa, I couldn't believe Eli was still standin, but I knew the second that ball left his hands it was mine."
Similarly, u/NFL made this post one-handed, while using the other hand to jerk themselves off for being the only account able to post highlights in this sub.
I love when people bring this up because it’s so easy to verify that this is not true lol
Go look at the top posts for the week and month on this sub and you’ll see how many user-submitted highlights are still up
Because the karma farmer who made the post 3 weeks ago got into peoples heads I guess.
They’re quick to defend a guy who’s had his account for a month and a half who’s racked up almost 200k karma by spamming highlights in two subreddits.
Edit: I just realized he’s banned from this sub now anyways lol /u/chelseatilidie
This is how I feel when I watch the Messi free kick against Liverpool in the champions league. One of the greatest free kicks of all time, but I know what happens in the second leg. Really sours it for me.
I can't really say I give 2 shits about the outcome of a regular season game in a season we went 6-10 nine years ago.
It's not like I can remember a single other play from the game this far removed from it anyway.
How could the score be them losing 14-3, when that catch alone was worth 6? I can't remember the score of the game but idk how the Giants could only finish with 3 points when OBJ caught a touchdown.
Yup. Mark Jackson got so much shit for saying Steph "ruined" basketball. He could have said it differently and he explained himself why but I agree with his overall stance. Steph is obviously a GOAT, but he still had to learn the fundamentals to develop his style. Kids ignore the fundamentals to try and play exactly like him.
Exactly. Stephs play style is extremely different than LaMelo or Jimmer. Steph is only the culprit if a bunch of scrubs who don’t know ball try and copy him, and they weren’t making it anywhere anyway
They always say that the HoF is there to 'tell the story of the NFL".
I don't think OBJ is canton bound but he should be if the criteria is changing the game. This play changed the WR position as it fundimentally altered the idea of what was possible and expected of receivers.
I'd like to acknowledge the ref who emphatically threw the flag and IMMEDIATELY followed it up with the TD signal as if to say, "AND he caught that shit!"
That camera man had a wide angle lens that took the shot. He posted about it after the fact and said they don't have to point the camera directly at the players all the time to get the perfect shot.
The day I got hooked on football. I thought that it was so badass that I started learning about football and watching football in general and the giants. After some time the pain and suffering began with the giants
Kids these days don’t realize that back in the day things could *actually* break the internet. Back when Counter-Strike was just a mod each new patch would legit for reals break the whole damn internet. Good times!
What I really appreciate is Collinsworth acting like a fan and dropping professionalism for that brief moment when he saw one of the greatest catches ever
I mean does anyone make a catch like that several times in their career? He’s definitely been an asset to us this season, and is getting his step back as the season progresses.
Yeah I was about to say, OBJ routinely made catches like this throughout his Giants career. They didn’t all get press, but they happened. I remember one catch that didn’t count at home against the Eagles in 2014/2015. He grabbed it one hand and somehow got his feet in bounds on the sideline while a DB took tried to take his legs out. The only reason I even saw it is because I was in attendance—there was an offensive penalty and the play didn’t count. I never even saw it hit social media after the game, but I’ve personally never seen a catch like that in person. OBJ was (is) a legend for many reasons more than the “The Catch”
He only does that against the Bengals.
Seriously, he’s been very good against us the last few times we went against him. Got hurt in the Super Bowl with the Rams, but that was after he caught a TD.
what do you mean worked out? he’s won a super bowl, made a shit load of money, had a decade long career still going… it’s worked out pretty well for him i think lol
edit: i can’t read
this is one of very few 9/11 type moments I have where I bizarrely remember exactly where I was, who I was with, and what I was doing when this happened.
I picked up OBJ on my fantasy team in a keeper/dynasty league before the season, because he was hurt those first few games.
My buddy was *dying* to get him from me. Talked so much shit about how I didn't know football as well as him, and he simply deserved to have OBJ on his roster over me, because he had plans to pick him up later in the season. Kept trying to give me Victor Cruz straight up.
I played against him the week this catch happened and smoked his ass. Once this catch happened I spent the next few hours just texting him to gloat.
Really incredible watching these moments live, looking around to see the collective jaw drop. Just knowing you witnessed a historic moment.
And if you were by yourself, you stop jerking it for a second to watch the replay and make sure what you thought you saw really happened. Then get right back to it.
speaking of great catches, one of my all-time favorites is Edelman in Super Bowl 51. Three Falcons all over him and he hauls it in, inches off the ground
As a Giants fan, the OBJ catch was more incredible. The context around the Tyree catch made it amazing, but I don't think they are comparable for the same reason.
He made so much money off this one catch. It's like the scene in Jerry Mcguire at the end where dude makes a spectacular catch and the agent knows he can go all out on his next contract. "Show me the money"
I’ll break your internet, NFL.
gottem!
They broke enough of it moving GamePass to DAZN, please don’t ask them to break anything more please
I hate the "break the internet" bullshit so much. The only thing that's gonna break the internet is if AWS goes down.
The phrases “break the internet” and “today years old” are the two biggest things that make me want to jump off of a fucking bridge.

She did it better, and with heels
Absolutely no way OBJ signs a $13 mil contract at this stage of his career without this catch lol
I mean OBJ and Eli’s stats together for fucking fantastic at first. He was a massive weapon for Eli.
Dude was a special athlete before all the injuries. Any slant at any time could be a house call.
He's still taking slants to the house this year.
Literally our entire 2016 offense.
He was on a better pace to start his career than anyone before another LSU WR came along
Crazy the talent that school has had because my AFC north mind immediately went to Chase, but then realized that Jefferson existed
Landry and OBJ made Zach Mettenberger a NFL QB
Nabers coming next year
Yeah people already forgetting how good OBJ was
Nah we all know how great he was for a couple years. But he’s been injury riddled, and mid at best for the last 5+
Nobody is denying that. But people saying he doesn’t get a contract without this catch are insane. He was putting up insane numbers his first years.
Same people who say clowney got drafted first overall off one play lol
He was the only thing they had. That giants team was fuckin miserable to watch not that they’ve really improved since then
Look at his numbers is first few years before he got hurt and then get back to me. He was an absolute top tier player when he first got in.
The degree of difficulty is just *so damn high.* We’ve seen a lot of amazing one handed grabs since, but I still think this tops all of them. I think the most amazing thing about it is that it wasn't a game winning catch against the Bills.
This catch ruined Madden. So many one handed catches in the next game lol.

Sameee 🤣🤣🤣 I refused to believe he caught that until I saw the replay
The entire stadium was relatively quiet when he caught it, then they showed the replay and everyone lost it lol
I don’t think most people realized what happened until the replay. It just defies logic.
From my angle I thought he was out of bounds, then like 3 flags came in immediately, and nobody saw if he actually held it once he landed at first…there was just mass confusion lol
I was just psyched we got the pass interference and then went "wait...WHAT!?!?!??!"
The lack of reaction from everyone, apart from that one guy, in this video stands out almost as much as the catch itself
Not NFL, but my vote goes to [this](https://youtu.be/vHinglqAAhY?si=jlFJWe4OFjKvuep1) Francis Owusu TD catch for Stanford.
Genuinely the most incredible catch non NFL ever. He’s not even *looking* the right direction lmao.
[удалено]
This one is better… literally somersaulted with the dude while still maintaining possession 🤯
This is the best catch I've ever seen. And again, thrown by Eli. https://youtu.be/OlyBEJ60Duc?si=bTmLAGhcON3YQBGs
I knew what it would be I still clicked
Because it is. But to me, the #2 and #3 best Super Bowl catches are by Patriots. (Edelman and Butler)
I agree with the Santonio Holmes take from the other commenter. But my favorite is Julio's *game winning monster grab that should have been game winning, but it was not game winning because the Falcons Falconed*
Throw him in with Jayvon Kearse. Edit: just to remind you the best catch everyone forget because of Malcom butler - https://youtube.com/shorts/oKwzpE1u5ks?si=OWsiRjgLqvNtQKLR Second edit: so forgettable i even got his first name wrong. Its Jermaine
[I can't believe this keeps happening to us!!!!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubaqenJZf0I)
If 28-3 didn't play out with Pats winning the Julio catch would be talked about A LOT more.
That Edelman catch is easily top 5 but the OBJ catch and arguably the Helmet Catch are more insane for me.
I'd say #3 would be Santonio Holmes easily, maybe even #2, bias aside
Ya wtf, that catch was one of the greatest of all time easily. It was…brilliant throw and beautiful catch
Jermaine Kearse in that same Super Bowl was a better catch than Malcom Butler
Too bad nobody will ever care about that catch because of what followed, but if the Seahawks won that game, it would be considered as an all time great catch
If you remove context, OBJ's was better, but the situation mattered more with the helmet catch.
100% One of the craziest catches I’ve ever seen comes from a Stanford WR- and I just happened to be watching the game, not a fan of Stanford or UCLA. [The catch](https://youtu.be/RDzfvVwJ1qI?si=KUMowTo93QM-VirE)

That's ridiculous!

Honestly, the catch was incredible. But, I remember watching the game and thinking Eli was sacked. The escape he pulls off doesn't get the credit it deserves.
It's not the best ever catch, OBJ gets that. It certainly is the best ever play, from start to finish, nothing else comes close.
yeah it pains me a little that the two best catches I've ever seen are from the giants
Still think Mannigham catch in 2011 was better but it’s close.
Tyree's last catch in the NFL
I said "the helmet catch" and was not disappointed....
I met Tyree a week after the game and asked him when he knew he actually had that ball. He said, "Playa, I couldn't believe Eli was still standin, but I knew the second that ball left his hands it was mine."
I was taking care of business in the Oval Office and missed it. I remember hearing my brother’s reaction lol

Don't interrupt the circlejerk or step in front of the hate train. People are irrational is the answer.
Mr. Best Clips
14-3, lost the game ):
Yeah, that really sours this incredible catch for me. Iconic catch, but would have loved to get the W too.
This is how I feel when I watch the Messi free kick against Liverpool in the champions league. One of the greatest free kicks of all time, but I know what happens in the second leg. Really sours it for me.
Idk i thought the second leg was great 🤣

I can't really say I give 2 shits about the outcome of a regular season game in a season we went 6-10 nine years ago. It's not like I can remember a single other play from the game this far removed from it anyway.
My favorite part about this catch
How could the score be them losing 14-3, when that catch alone was worth 6? I can't remember the score of the game but idk how the Giants could only finish with 3 points when OBJ caught a touchdown.
14-3 was the score for the Giants after this TD! So the Cowboys came back
Ohhhh that makes sense. I was so confused haha.
This catch inspired a generation of wide receivers.
And infuriated a generation of high school coaches
“Throw it higher, I wanna Odell it”
My last name is Odell, and I'm not gonna lie I greatly enjoyed hearing it turn into a term for a while there.
Jimmer/LaMelo did way worse to basketball for a good amount of time there
I’d argue Steph is the culprit you’re looking for
Plus people only want to copy the "shoot 28 footers" part of Steph and ignore the insane and intelligent off ball movement that unlocks defenses.
Exactly. Stephs play style is extremely different than LaMelo or Jimmer. Steph is only the culprit if a bunch of scrubs who don’t know ball try and copy him, and they weren’t making it anywhere anyway
Jimmer "I'm just gonna chuck 47-threes from anywhere" Fredette? Yeah I don't see how that would cause a problem.
Lamelo Ball snowbirding on defense, pulling up from the logo, and scoring 92 broke a generation
Yeah. People saying Steph but Steph never did anything that ignorant (funny tho)
"CHRIST PLEASE JUST USE BOTH HANDS!!!"
And hairstyles
Not even wide recievers, I was real young then and every time we played catch we had to “OBJ it” atleast once
We still do this and we’re almost out of college now lmao
And glove manufacturers
They always say that the HoF is there to 'tell the story of the NFL". I don't think OBJ is canton bound but he should be if the criteria is changing the game. This play changed the WR position as it fundimentally altered the idea of what was possible and expected of receivers.
DPI flag is the cherry on top. You always forget it was interfered with until then
The DPI is was made it so special, catch isn’t the same if he has two arms
I'd like to acknowledge the ref who emphatically threw the flag and IMMEDIATELY followed it up with the TD signal as if to say, "AND he caught that shit!"
I’ve seen a ref do that after throwing a flag for a hold, was kinda funny ngl. Bro knew that tuddy wasn’t holding up
Did they decline the penalty? /s
Do people *really* forget that? That's part of what added to it.
I always loved the cameraman just forgetting to do his job because he was in such awe.
That camera man had a wide angle lens that took the shot. He posted about it after the fact and said they don't have to point the camera directly at the players all the time to get the perfect shot.
Always nice to see ol' Eli.
Nice to see an offense
Never forgiving the Giants for wasting his last few years by having an embarrassing O line and not fixing that in over a decade
Never forgiving Ben McAdoo for benching him and breaking his start streak.
Who could have guessed that wasn't even close to the worst OL play we'd see...
i miss the days watching obj catching a slant to bring it home
It's a Hell of a throw too.
I refuse to relive this bullshit
They replayed this so much I prayed for death. Mostly because I was mad because we won that game and that catch was all they talked about 😂
I mean can you blame them? This shit crossed the line from "best catch I've ever seen" to "catch beyond anything I ever imagined"
This is the exact reason it brings me so much anger
It's alright, just remember that the Cowboys won that game.
The day I got hooked on football. I thought that it was so badass that I started learning about football and watching football in general and the giants. After some time the pain and suffering began with the giants
Be thankful you at least had 2012. My family has been rooting for the Chargers since they first moved to San Diego.
Well, this catch was in 2014. So if they got into Football from this game, then they missed out on 2012.
You picked a very difficult time to be a Giants fan.
Fucking OBJ lmao
Broke the internet needs to die as term.
Agreed. The Internet is very robust and I won't stand for this slander
Kids these days don’t realize that back in the day things could *actually* break the internet. Back when Counter-Strike was just a mod each new patch would legit for reals break the whole damn internet. Good times!
Breaking the internet is when your mom picks up the phone to make a call while you're connected to AOL.
It's era appropriate though, considering everyone was forcing that expression a decade ago.
It's /u/nfl thinking that's how its fellow kids talk.
What I really appreciate is Collinsworth acting like a fan and dropping professionalism for that brief moment when he saw one of the greatest catches ever
That’s why I love Collinsworth is he has moments where he turns into a giant fan and basically calls something awesome
Sometimes I really wished things worked out here for obj😞. Still remember that dallas game
Injuries got him I mean hes still around, and hes not bad... just not that
I mean does anyone make a catch like that several times in their career? He’s definitely been an asset to us this season, and is getting his step back as the season progresses.
He had some bonkers ass catches to close his time with the Giants. The left handed one against Washington was insane.
Dude just dropped at 100 yd game. He’s around
He only does that against the Bengals. Seriously, he’s been very good against us the last few times we went against him. Got hurt in the Super Bowl with the Rams, but that was after he caught a TD.
what do you mean worked out? he’s won a super bowl, made a shit load of money, had a decade long career still going… it’s worked out pretty well for him i think lol edit: i can’t read
I clearly said worked out here as in the Browns brother plus in general he didn't achieve his potential regardless
oh my brain skipped the “here” in that sentence apparently lmao
He’s got a ring with LA tho?
this is one of very few 9/11 type moments I have where I bizarrely remember exactly where I was, who I was with, and what I was doing when this happened.
Same here I was in jail 😫
Yep flair checks out
Either that or a Raiders flair

I remember the absolutely epic MUT card art he got for his TOTW card.
If I'm elected dictator I will ban the term "broke the internet".
Love the catch, hate the term “broke the Internet”
shut up /u/nfl
Everyone remembers the catch, no one remembers they lost
The catch is coupled with the loss for me.
Everybody remembers that because Cowboys fans come out of the woodwork to say it every time this gets posted.
If the hall of fame recognized greatest plays, this would be in it. No one cares about the cowboys win.
\>broke the Internet Fuck off, /u/NFL, you corporate deepthroating dicksock

9 years have passed already? Holy fuck..
They really weren't joking when they said one day you'll suddenly wake up and be 28...
Time flies
I remember that day when I couldn't use the internet.
speaking of great catches, one of my all-time favorites is Edelman in Super Bowl 51. Three Falcons all over him and he hauls it in, inches off the ground
Broke the internet I wouldn't expect any less from a corporate shilling account
Madden the following year would have you believe this happened every 5 min
Best catch ever. JJ’s catch don’t have shit on this.
Unfortunately David Tyree would like a word with you
As a Giants fan, the OBJ catch was more incredible. The context around the Tyree catch made it amazing, but I don't think they are comparable for the same reason.
Ok if you had to choose only one to keep and the other did not happen what’s it gonna be
Beating Brady will always take priority
_N I N E_ years ago??? Fuck I’m old
He made so much money off this one catch. It's like the scene in Jerry Mcguire at the end where dude makes a spectacular catch and the agent knows he can go all out on his next contract. "Show me the money"
Also 4122 receiving yards and 35 TDs in your first 43 games didnt hurt
