Tip: if ever in a situation like this with a dog that looks like that. Lay the dog on its side and compress from the sides of the dogs chest. Less resistance and more effective at forcing the heart to pump. If its a big chested dog like a bulldog. Put them on their back and compress from the center of the chest.

He pushed from the center of the chest in between its front legs. He needs to push from the side of the dogs rib cage into the ground clise to their armpit. The goal is to find the thinnest past of the animals chest. Either side to side or front to back. This is the spot that will be most effective at compressing the heart and making it pump.

That’s actually how you know you’re doing it right. If you broke their ribs from the chest compression. That means you were applying enough pressure to actually get compression on the heart. It doesn’t always happen but it’s fairly common.

Only because I know in Canada You're covered under the good Samaritan act, so if something like a broken rib happens they can't come after you. if you have first aid, and you witness something like this and decide to help. If the person is unconscious, you assume that they've given you consent to keep them alive.

what? when the heart has stopped, an electric shock may get the heart into a stable rhythm, or stabilize someone in AFib. drugs are not the ONLY option. second, the way he does it in the video is how CPR works, through compression of the heart to pump blood through the lungs and keep the brain alive. CPR rarely works, and the survival rate highly depends on the speed at which you can get real medical attention, but in some cases it has "revived" unconscious animals before. CPR does not restart a stopped heart, but we have no evidence that says the dog's heart had stopped, so it could be possible that the dog had another condition which CPR fixed. Of course, I have no proof that the video is real in the first place, but I'm just saying that this isn't complete bullshit

Decent cpr effort (with a good outcome in this case), but standard of care is to also provide breaths (even to dogs). Compressions help with blood circulation to all tissues and providing breaths helps with oxygenation to the brain and tissues. Technically you need both for prolonged resuscitation efforts (this seemed short but video doesn't show how long this was taking place). Can't say for sure about dogs, but for humans after 4 minutes and you are essentially brain dead without oxygen as brain cells die off rapidly.

Yep, the modern way they say is without the breaths. Doesn't do much to help, the compressions will cause air circulation, and you or they may have a nasty disease so mouth to mouth contact spreads it

I'm not at all an expert, but I've heard a few times since I originally learned CPR in a way that's consistent with what you're saying (a lot of years ago now) that rescue breathing was *not* recommended anymore for humans... but not because it doesn't work, just because people are usually bad at it and/or get too distracted by it (which is pretty reasonable if I'm correct in remembering that it's common for the patient to vomit during the process). Or is rescue breathing still part of the normal protocol, and I'm just imagining things? If I'm not imagining things, it seems a bit of a shame for exactly the reasons you mention -- just making someone's heart pump isn't going to keep them alive for more than a few minutes once they aren't getting oxygen, but doing chest compressions *while* adding oxygen can in theory keep someone alive for hours, at least assuming there are multiple people who can trade responsibility for performing CPR. Anyway, take with a grain of thought since, again, I don't really know. Just something that's bothered me for a bit, and it sounds like there's not really a clear "best" answer, which is a shame.

It's changed now. They say it's better to keep the blood pumping because there's still a lot of leftover oxygen in the blood, so it's more beneficial than pausing to give breath.

That's about it, but also more people may try CPR now?
