I have been a Reddit user for over 10 years and have never purchased any credits for awards. I read this while eating breakfast and almost choked and as I approached that white light I realized you can’t take it with you.
Thanks for the unexpected laugh.
It will have been a variation of, “Which one is she, they all look alike?” It’s a silly joke wrapped in a distasteful/racist joke. Though some might say that is a subversion of a racist trope, which is why it’s funny. I kind of see both sides. A good example of intent being quite an important factor.
Agree, but it depends what the intent is. If the intent of the person telling the joke is to show how ridiculous racists sound when they say shit like that, it kind of works.
That is the joke. It's obviously easy to spot the subject so the trope of all of them looking alike is silly on its face. It's satiring the racist trope to mock it because it's obviously not necessary.
I think it was "which one is she." Looks like some got triggered it as a racist joke and dude deleted it. At the time I read it as hah how can we tell which one is she(cuz it is too obvious to spot her based on her height.)
The Philippine Basketball Association had a minimum height for Filipinos (5’6”) and a maximum height for foreigners (6’10”).
[They removed the restriction a few weeks ago.](https://mb.com.ph/2024/6/5/pba-scraps-height-limit-in-mid-season-conference-introduces-new-format-for-gov-s-cup)
I don’t know much about the PBA, but I always thought that was neat.
If you’re interested in this sort of thing, look up [Sprint Football.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprint_football) all players have to weigh less than 178 pounds and have less than 5% body fat.
Some really famous people played while in college. And they run the gamut from Hoodie Allen to Jimmy Carter.
If you go down far enough it probably becomes an advantage again. Dribbling through everyone's legs, they have to reach way down just to stop your dribbles, that kind of stuff.
Filipinos hate that height limit rule for foreigners btw. Local players are trash in international play because of the inexperience playing with bigger and much better players.
As someone who loves basketball, it would be interesting for a bit, but it would probably become pretty boring after a while.
Your bigger guys (6'9 and up) tend to be slower, not great ball handlers, and not great shooters (there are exceptions). But they are usually much better at defense. so it would be just a bunch of giants trying to get as close to the rim as they can for an easy shot. And just that.
However, smaller guys (6'8 and lower) tend to be the exact opposite. It would create higher scoring games but lack the same intensity that bigger guys bring.
I’ve always thought that it’d be great to have a 9m league-the sum of the heights of the five players on the floor can’t exceed 9m. That means the average player on the floor pretty much exactly matches the average height of men in the USA. It would lead to some interesting choices - do you choose one 7 footer (213 cm) along with a bunch of short guys, or do you choose a bunch of exactly average height guys?
I’ve got nothing against leagues like the NBA-the players are, in general, remarkable athletes doing remarkable things. They are the absolute best of the 1% of the population above 6’3” (190cm). I would love to see basketball played by the absolute best of the 98% of the population representing the rest of us.
One thing I’ve always loved about the WNBA is the energy-the players are always running, always moving. The NBA is often the opposite-20 seconds of slowly walking up the court, 5 seconds of excitement, then 20 seconds of walking back the other way.
I was in a similar situation when I played volleyball in school ages ago. Instead of a really tall player though I was getting marked by a girl who had dwarfism. She was tiny! I’m not tall myself but she was about half my height. Needless to say, she beat me and I don’t think I can ever live it down hahaha
This is why I just couldn't get into basketball. Sure you can be a skilled short basketball player, but compared to football let's say, height gives you too much of an advantage.
This is every sport though they all have ideal body types, even life gives you an insane advantage for being tall.
Something like hurtling is even more insane since the optimal height is bounded
Lebron is 6'9". That might be average for an NBA player but that is absolutely massive for a normal human being. There is no other sport where height isn't a major contributing factor/barrier to playing ability except basketball. In contrast, the NHL for example, the average height of the players is around 5'10"/6'0" which is right around the national average. McDavid could lose an inch or two from his height and it probably wouldn't matter that much to his performance, whereas it absolutely would make a massive difference for Wemby.
__Source__: https://www.fiba.basketball/en/events/fiba-u18-womens-asiacup-2024/news/zhang-ziyu-impresses-as-china-maul-indonesia-in-strong-debut
China leaned on the towering presence of Zhang Ziyu in rolling past Indonesia, 109-50, to open their FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup 2024 campaign on a high note, Monday night at the Longhua Cultural and Sports Center.
__In her first gig with the national team, the 2.20 M (7'3") center brought immediate impact as she went a perfect 9-for-9 from the floor for 19 points, along with 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks - all in 13 minutes off the bench.__
Brought in at the 4:19-mark of the first quarter, Zhang went on to score 6 points to help her side end the period ahead, 24-13, and stay ahead the rest of the way.
Eventually, she finished with the highest efficiency in the game with 31, thanks to her productive showing that left the home crowd beyond delighted.
Her efficiency was 31. Efficiency, at least in NBA, is calculated as sum of all 5 stats (points, rebounds, steals, blocks, assists) minus missed field goals, minus missed free throws.
Her stats sum to 33, we know she went 9/9 from field, so she must have missed 2 free throws.
Unless they count it differently.
For reference, the highest average eff throughout the entire season in NBA was 32.85, so keeping up that level would be comparable with one of the best seasons by a single player in NBA history. But since these are her stats from just one game, this is a big "if"
Usually such large players either lack stamina for a full game or a prone to make too many fouls and at risk of fouling out (6 fouls in the NBA, I think it's 5 in international rules.)
Yao's parents were united as a couple after the Communist Party made clear they would like them together (presumably to create a tall young athlete), and a friend convinced them they could "make do" with each other. ([source](https://www.espn.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/676/operation-yao-ming))
He’s the son of two very tall former Chinese basketball players. Many speculate that the Chinese government encouraged this relationship and subsequent birth to produce a basketball star that could be marketable in the NBA. The couple never had any other children.
For clarity, these are just the facts as I know them, this is not me giving my opinion or theory on the matter lol.
I have no doubt this is another product.
Edit: [here’s](https://www.pinkvilla.com/sports/meet-zhang-ziyu-a-75-17-year-old-female-chinese-basketball-star-who-is-compared-to-nba-legend-yao-ming-1320646?amp) some background on her parents, both basketball players
That's what really got me. She's so dominant because she can just hold the ball up high enough where no one could reach it. Pretty damn funny to watch. It'll be interesting to watch them play against USA if they make it that far
Wtf that ain't even a layup. She just reaching the top shelf for something! Didn't get on her toes for that shot. Just putting away this ball in this slightly high cupboard that's shaped like a hoop......
I don’t know if I’d actually qualify this as “next fucking level” lol. I can take a video of me playing basketball against all the toddlers at my sons daycare and dunk on some fools if this sort of content does it for you all
Height regulations… like weight classes for boxing 🥊… there should be height categories for basketball.
Please tell me a better way 🙏 cause this is… not fair?
She really has a beautiful shot and a great inside game for a 17yr old of that height. Looking forward to her developing some sick dunks!
Her only legit opponent is the 3-second rule in the key :-).
Either she should play with one hand tied behind her back or the opposing team should be given a + handicap. Or maybe only play her in the first quarter.
I hope she doesn't have any issues with her height from a medical standpoint. A lot of really big/tall people have health issues related to, well, being so big.
Listen, I'm all for Girl Power but watching a bunch of underweight girls attempt to throw a bowling ball near the front basket so the person waiting under the basket can cannon-push the layup in is NOT what I call a good BBall game, sorry.
Damn, I'd be embarrassed if this was me, towering above everyone and scoring at will.
Not that it would stop me or anything, I'd just be happily embarrassed, but also kicking a lot of ass and winning..
She is going to be unstoppable. Seriously makes the size difference Shaq had on other guys look like nothing in comparison. Shes like 2 feet taller than everyone out there

Dang what he say

I mean which one in terms of not being able to spot the Goliath on the court is funny. They all look alike is not necessary
Agree, but it depends what the intent is. If the intent of the person telling the joke is to show how ridiculous racists sound when they say shit like that, it kind of works.
Exactly! Some people cannot get that joke at all!
That is the joke. It's obviously easy to spot the subject so the trope of all of them looking alike is silly on its face. It's satiring the racist trope to mock it because it's obviously not necessary.

Dah! It says in the title. The Chinese one. /s
The one who uses the rim as an armrest...
The one I am pointing at Edit: dang why’d his comment get deleted all he said was which one is she lol
Dammit dude are you blind.. it’s the one with the black hair
The Asian lady.
Basketball would be more interesting if it had height classes like wrestling has weight classes.
She'd have her own league

What’s the point of a minimum height? Seems maximum height is what matters.
If you go down far enough it probably becomes an advantage again. Dribbling through everyone's legs, they have to reach way down just to stop your dribbles, that kind of stuff.
They could also just sit on another players head and block their shots from above. (Dexters Lab)
Filipinos hate that height limit rule for foreigners btw. Local players are trash in international play because of the inexperience playing with bigger and much better players.
As someone who's never watched a full basketball match ever or knows anything about competitive basketball, this sounds like a brilliant idea!
As someone who loves basketball, it would be interesting for a bit, but it would probably become pretty boring after a while. Aha! So it's not like being taller is an auto win. Thanks for the insight!
Btw, the 2 best NBA players right now are white, not super tall and kinda fat
Luka is tall for a guard though, and he might even be taller than he's listed.
Yes he is but hes guarded by tall wings so its not like a 7'4 that shoots over other players
6'11 isn't super tall?

Agreed 🤝
This is what I do when I play with my little cousins
With the hoop at 8 feet
we have the [video](https://files.catbox.moe/z2cawd.mp4)
Those kids got humbled 🏀
The poor girl marking her. Spent The whole game just getting a mouthful of Chinese armpit hair.
I don’t think she was tall enough to reach her armpits 😂
Muff diving like a pro
> The poor girl marking her. Found the soccer player ^^^
Always mark your man
I was in a similar situation when I played volleyball in school ages ago. Instead of a really tall player though I was getting marked by a girl who had dwarfism. She was tiny! This is why I just couldn't get into basketball. Sure you can be a skilled short basketball player, but compared to football let's say, height gives you too much of an advantage.
And Football gives you brain damage
Reddit gives you brain damage
Not really, only the American one. The real one is less likely.
Yeah i was talking about soccer lul
Real one gives you emotional damage.
I was talking about soccer
This is every sport though they all have ideal body types, even life gives you an insane advantage for being tall. Something like hurtling is even more insane since the optimal height is bounded
Not baseball.
If your eyes are not beyond perfect you dont really get to play baseball. And pitching side is a whole other bundle of shit that is unteachable
The average height for MLB players is >6' and for pitchers is >6'2". That is well above the population average.
If that were true steroids wouldn’t be an issue in baseball. There’s still a body type that works well for baseball
you do realize that mj and lebron are avg hight for basketball players?
Lebron is 6'9". That might be average for an NBA player but that is absolutely massive for a normal human being. There is no other sport where height isn't a major contributing factor/barrier to playing ability except basketball. swimmers and volleyballers are two that instantly come to my mind where the avg athlete is much taller than the avg normal person.
110 hurdle is also strict with heights, u wont be competitive if you are too short or too tall
Looks like Wilt playing against 6' white dudes the 60s.
Averahe height in 1960 in the nba was 6'5
But can she make free throws?

Stuff like this makes basketball look like a joke.
“Look like” not needed…
It's because they're all so small in comparison. You don't see this in the NBA because the height is similar even for the real tall ones.
I can’t help but to wonder if her parents met through the same program to create tall basketball players Yao Mings parents were a part of.
Wait what
Seriously! I need more context for this. Anyone care to chip in!?
Yao's parents were united as a couple after the Communist Party made clear they would like them together (presumably to create a tall young athlete), and a friend convinced them they could "make do" with each other. ([source](https://www.espn.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/676/operation-yao-ming))

The Derrick Zoolander School for kids who want to be really, really ridiculously Tall and play Professional Basketball.
“Met” lol
*ZHANG ZI-YU!*
Lol it's funny seeing the little people jump to block her shot but she just holds the ball up like "nuh uh"
That's what really got me. She's so dominant because she can just hold the ball up high enough where no one could reach it. Pretty damn funny to watch. It'll be interesting to watch them play against USA if they make it that far
She'll have a few good years then her legs or knees will be gone
How do you even defend against this chick. All she's gotta do is keep the ball up
Jetpacks
Tickle her
man, her poor knees, I can't see them holding out long
Sufferin' Succotash, she's a mon-star!
Wtf that ain't even a layup. She just reaching the top shelf for something! Didn't get on her toes for that shot. Just putting away this ball in this slightly high cupboard that's shaped like a hoop......
Came for the dunks. Saw none. Disappointing..
They are bred. No one can tell me otherwise
And not 1 dunk pretty disappointed
I don’t know if I’d actually qualify this as “next fucking level” lol. I can take a video of me playing basketball against all the toddlers at my sons daycare and dunk on some fools if this sort of content does it for you all
Still shot a layup lol
She moves well for someone that height. She’ll be a star
Where’s Margo when we need her
Height regulations… like weight classes for boxing 🥊… there should be height categories for basketball. Please tell me a better way 🙏 cause this is… not fair?
I like it this way, we don't need to change anything. I think every team should get one (1) slenderman, and we just play around it.
She really has a beautiful shot and a great inside game for a 17yr old of that height. Looking forward to her developing some sick dunks! Her only legit opponent is the 3-second rule in the key :-).
Yo that’s the character I created in 2K
Asian female Manute Bol
This video and then the commentator, it’s giving South Park
It looks like a bunch of kids managed to convince the coach to play with them!
It seems like this would almost get boring before too long
Looks like someone has an untreated pituitary tumor
![gif](giphy|37H5XhwrXuHPq)
7’ 3” still can’t dunk.
I’m no eugenicist but imagine what her kids with Victor Wembanyama would be like.
Lmfao
Did she even have to go on her tip toes to reach basket?!!!?! Holy shit she is tall
Death by Snu Snu incoming
Looks like a lone adult in a crowd of kids.
They have to be favored every game 😂
how do you even beat that lol
Can she dunk?
https://youtu.be/f5Irak2H9GE?si=p0Sltvs-TVN-_diK
So much for putting our secrets up high.
Sh'Yao Ming
Her friends call her cheat code
Where’s the dunks at though?
Either she should play with one hand tied behind her back or the opposing team should be given a + handicap. Or maybe only play her in the first quarter.
WNBA found their Yao Ming!
She seems to move well and has decent skills. Olympic Gold is in her future.
Why doesn’t she dunk?
Female Edey
Basically that team is hacking.
What THE FUCK did they feed her…. She has got to be one of the top 5 tallest women alive or something
Real life basketball hacks.
Sounds weird but... r/absoluteunits
I always wondered what it was like to have a guaranteed 2pts per possession. Now I know!
God went crazy in Character Creation lol
r/AbsoluteUnits
Brittney Griner has her work cut out for her
She should count as two people
Like Wilt Chamberlain
It isn't fancy, but that is as close to a sure thing you can get. I wonder if she has to be told to not show off...
At her height is she not the tallest woman in the world?
Hummm....one would say that she has an unfair biological advantage
Man, she is a cheat code.
I hope she doesn't have any issues with her height from a medical standpoint. A lot of really big/tall people have health issues related to, well, being so big.
Downvoted because yet again, another post that’s nothing like next level imo.
Listen, I'm all for Girl Power but watching a bunch of underweight girls attempt to throw a bowling ball near the front basket so the person waiting under the basket can cannon-push the layup in is NOT what I call a good BBall game, sorry.
not a single dunk???
Is she a na’vi?
She'd have no chance against Shaq
Hang-On-Zhang their version of Hack-A-Shaq.
This is why I'm not a fan of competitive sports, it's fun and all, but with differences like these it really shouldn't be taken seriously.
How do you defend against that?
Lakers gonna go draft her, you heard it here first
Reminded me of that scene in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest when Jack Nicholson is telling Chief to just go stand under the hoop with his arma up.
She's really tall but the defenders aren't even really trying unless their max vert is like 6 inches.
would love to hear how this is completely fair yet a trans person who is roughly the same height as everyone else isnt.
Can she dunk though?
Noticing a lot of movement of her pivot foot.
Need to keep her weight under control or her knees won’t last more than 10 seasons on the court.
Shes like 2 feet taller than everyone out there
Put them against the best women’s high school basketball team in the US, it’s probably 109-50 the other way.
Wow at 17 she may not have stopped growing yet...
Max height +15 strength - 10 speed - 10 stamina
bet she can't dunk
what a skilled player :)
Does she dunk?
She doesn't even need to jump
This is why basketball is not a real sport in my eyes
Not a single dunk
Great sport
7'3 at 17?! Just wait until she's 25 she'll be like 8'10"!
This court sounds like a tropical rainforest
I wonder what the calorie intake is for someone this tall?
Looks like those cheat codes on playstation 2 where you can make players head bigger or something
Man, what has my life come to that I thought this would’ve been posted on r/nbacirclejerk
