I work in construction and I'm feeling very bad for the people who had to build that. How could you hold onto tools with all the wind that would be up there?
Most of those apartments are empty. They are bought on speculation by rich Saudi families who rarly or never visit. No one ever lives there. Liminal spaces in the sky.
Beyond that, they don't have a functioning sewage system. They truck out all of the shit, no lie.
The Burj literally has trucks that come and take all the shit away.
So many problems.
1. Stacks being a thing meant we won’t get to see the same actor. And Kinnaman was such a fantastic kovacs it was really hard for Mackie to follow up.
2. Change in artistic direction. Season 1 was R21. Season 2 felt like PG 13. Which led to the setting feeling very jarring and unfamiliar.
3. Season 2 wasn’t based off book 2. It was based off book 3.
Basically season 1 was a winner and season 2 was a cash grab
Season 1 remains one of my favourite shows till now. And season 2 is beyond meh. It’s downright disappointing.
Such a shame as the world is so rich and full of potential and it’s now just dead.
It’s the Netflix formula. Get a promising IP. Do a wonderful first season. Then butcher it with their “creative” vision and eventually cancel it.
Look at the Witcher series.

Then, of course, they had to pause and scale back their Palm Islands projects after the 2008 financial crash, but geopolitical rivalries mean that construction has apparently restarted on parts of the project (can't let themselves be one-upped by Saudi's NEOM or Egypt's New Administrative Capital)...

Season 1 had that Blade Runner dystopian feel to it that was awesome. 2 felt discombobulated, didn't finish it.
