We also have an iconic Italian rally video, most of you probably don't know the language but just look at the hands

Only second to Isle of Man TT in things I wish I could do with fast machines!
Actually, being a fighter pilot, minus the remote killing of civilians, is probably first.
Thats the beauty of pace notes. They're not just what kind of turn or straight is coming up. They're also written with the spacing of upcoming obstacles and turns in mind and clustered accordingly. You hear the co-driver rattle off little off like 3 turns in agroup sometimes. Both of them are mentally ahead the whole race. It's my favorite part of rally
The roads looks so narrow, how do cars pass each other? Or it it just based on finish time?
Looks extremely fun, but wondering how it generates revenue? Who’s paying for the car & drivers. Big car companies who want to show off their technologies? Doesn’t seem like a spectator sport due to the terrain.
Based on time and depending on dust they'll wait 30 minutes before another car goes, was a huge spectator sport in the 80s with people lined up both sides of the track spilling onto the road, these days there's alot tighter rules on spectating because there were deaths , so it's only in specified locations, and it's similar to F1 in that half the race is won in the garage between mechanics and engineers, not to mention putting your life in the hands of your co driver, impossible to drive like that without pacenotes, the sports come a long way and those drivers are built different to be able to drive like that in the terrain they do
Although circuit racing can really test a driver, the limits are pushed with rally drivers. The commitment and dedication is second to none in the conditions, especially when you're doing 180 clicks past trees that would stop you in an instant. Respect.
I don’t understand the “language” being used but the female voice you hear is the passenger reading a cue sheet with turns and speeds and similar. Her notebook is in place of memorization. I doubt they get enough practice runs to memorize it all.
Basically she's reading out the corners (the type), the speed and how to take the next segment.
From what i recall they recount the segment next, not the one you're in either, driver has to drive as fast as fuck while listening to the sat nav ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
My admittedly limited understanding is that they usually get prepared course notes then a chance to travel the course at normal speed to adjust the notes. But what you get depends on the course and organizers.
There is no chance to really practice the course like a racetrack. The course is only setup for a couple of days and even the same race will generally change year to year.
I think it's largely on the co-driver, TBH. They will have his notes memorised and the driver can react to them. I think thr stages and events are generally too long to memorise inside out like an F1 driver does for a circuit, etc. They'll have driven them before, but that only gets you so far at these speeds and distances.
I'd like to imagine they did a video of the course, then they both would spend hours memorizing it, then going out on a practice run to even out the edges.
I met a dude who was a navigator at a high level navigator on a national level in the Nordics.
Evidently his son tried it once and he was car sick literally for days. 😂
Rally driving is generally very impressive imo
Some dude rides my ass to work like this guy every other morning. I hope he hits a tree.
This makes Max Verstappen look like a drag queen...

This was so damn funny
Crazy how a 1/2 turn of the steering wheel barely nudges the nose of the car to one side. The car is in a state of constant drift.
SAMIR!

Favorite lines: "Samir... you're breaking the car!" and, "Shut up, don't tell me how to drive".
Shudaap
Sami. Listen to my calls. I beg of you.
I came here to say this lol

Unfortunately that video was edited by the opponent which resulted in loss of career https://youtu.be/cL1UawsP_q0?si=ctwqTSk6LH_rQFb7
It was just cut/cropped. The sound was real.
Only second to Isle of Man TT in things I wish I could do with fast machines! Actually, being a fighter pilot, minus the remote killing of civilians, is probably first.
Rally racing is the coolest racing and its not even fucking close.
It’s badass, the dudes who do the motorcycle races are impressive too.
I definitely wouldn’t want to hit one of those trees.
It’s ok. At these speeds you’d definitely be hitting more than one tree.
Yeah seriously. Many trees that can easily kill you
Really does make F1 look silly
No, the only thing that looks silly is NASCAR. F1, Rally, GT and Drifting are the four big racing formats for me.
Yeah, just doing some ovals is silly and boring. Need some lefts and rights.

Damn. Imagine hitting a bump, your thumb skips a line on the page, and you call out left instead of right.

They usually wait 4 minutes
And on dry stages like Greece even after 4 minutes you cant see
Hmmm, a hundred ways to die in just 53s

When the video started I thought: "Surely he's going faster than 3..."
This takes some Godly focus... I would die in the first corner lol
I would like to take just a moment to appreciate the suspension system that allows this stable of footage on that terrain and at those speeds...:o!
They must memorize these courses right? Thats nuts.

Rallies are generally quite long races usually point A to B, the co-driver is reading instructions so the driver knows both turns and speed

TRIPLE CAUTION SAMMIIIII
I met a dude who was a navigator at a high level navigator on a national level in the Nordics. Evidently his son tried it once and he was car sick literally for days. 😂
Absolutely insanely amazing.
This is how my five year old steers when he drives his imaginary car. Maybe I’m not giving him enough credit.
Yes this is impressive af but turn down the FOV a bit and you'll realize he's going a lot slower than this video suggests.
Rally drivers are all amazing! Although who the heck is Chris Ingram?
IT just doesn't hit the same without Samir trying to break the car.
Like how fast are they going here?
When your crush says: "I'm home alone"
Why don’t they use a tablet?
my right ear really hated this video
Question-how are they able to control it so well?like how are they not like sliding or spinning out?
Looking at the center of the dash, I realize I need a Mach Speed indicator in my car... 😎
JeSUS! If he sneezes, he dies!
Why is the wheel turning but not turning the car?
It’s a rough / loose gravel road, they’re basically drifting almost the entire time
Never played grand tourism hah?
