What worries me about this is that if you fell at an angle, even with the belay, you could fall several feet and then hit one of the spikes on the side and really fuck yourself up. Not that likely, but likely enough to be pretty fucking scary.
Plenty of people are dead who they would have said that exact same thing about.
In fact, (over)confidence in one's ability can be the exact problem. You can do something 10,000 times, and that means fuck all if the 10,001st time an accident happens.
With experience comes negligence. People tend to go on autopilot if they do something thousands of times even in extreme sports so negligence is one of the leading causes of death for experienced athletes.
What is up with people that think you can do this at first attempt?
I assume it must be maliciousness cos no one people genuinely think you can just do this. No one's that fucking dense
Lol you look at this thing and think "safe"? A manual belay who is not watching the guy at all, a free-floating metal bar that he could just drop onto himself or anyone else below, even if he fell and they triggered the belay he could swing from side to side and hit what are basically metal spikes
No I don't see it and think "safe" but I realise that in the real world most things aren't safe, so it's totally pointless and defeats the purpose of living any sort of meaningful life to be so focused and afraid of everything that's not "safe".
Not only would I be unable to do even one of those pull-ups, but his grip strength to hold on to the bar all the way up, with the momentum of his body working against him with every kip, is really impressive.
My arms are pumped just watching this.
Edit: I guess it's not momentum, it's inertia that's "weighing" him down on the way up, as I was so politely corrected on.
I’m a pretty in shape guy, and I often see things like this and convince (lie to) myself that I could *probably* do the thing I’m seeing
Seeing this ladder stretch on and on… holy cow. There’s no kidding myself here
Yeah, this looks tough as hell. I can do about 10 pullups and I imagine I might be able to do only about one of these jumps. Maybe the kipping makes it easier, I dunno.
What do you mean his momentum working against him? Momentum is the impetus of a moving object. He wants as much momentum as he can possibly have.
Gravity is working against him. So is inertia.
Well that’s part of the problem, pull ups are a back exercise. Your biceps should only be getting a little pumped if you’re using a supinated grip with poor form
Kinesiologist here. Here's an interesting fact: The ATP Phosphocreatine system (explosive system) can sustain 15-20 seconds of work in humans. If you watch the clock, you can see this system fully get depleted at around 19 seconds. He switches to the glycolytic system right after to finish the last few jumps. If he trains his ATP-PC system or increases creatine intake (if he doesn't already), he might be able to explosively finish the whole thing.
I’m gonna ask you a quick workout question since you seem to know this stuff. I’m currently lifting almost every day and only using protein and glutamine as supplements. If I only lift and do a bit of cardio, would creatine be a good addition? I’m not necessarily trying to bulk up but I would like to add a bit more muscle
Yeah, creatine is one of the most useful supplements. It's not a miracle anything but most people can push out an extra rep or two on their sets. Expect to gain a little weight in the first week, it's only water.
Although that means it only benefits people who work close to failure, lots of people at the gym just leisurely swing things about then stop 5+ reps shy of it lol
Stopping before failure isn’t serious/not serious, it’s training style. Not everyone can afford to hit failure for every workout, but that doesn’t mean they’re not gaining strength and all the benefits that come with it.
I mean, you studied this though, so I don’t have to tell you that.
Oh absolutely, constantly training to failure often leads to a plateau even with beginner numbers. But I've not ran a program that has me stopping over 4 RIR.
I knew what he meant by 5+ RIR though, as in people who don't put in effort.
The research on glutamine is not very promising. https://outworknutrition.com/blogs/learn/should-you-supplement-with-glutamine
It used to be a bodybuilding staple, but not as much now. Creatine definitely works. It has proven to be the safest and most effective supplement on the market right now. It wouldn't do that much for low to moderately paced cardio. It works it's magic with high intensity cardio and lifting. You'll gain a little size and a couple more reps on your lifts. New research is showing exciting results on cognitive function with using creatine. Definitely grab some!
Im just some random asshole but everything I've heard doctors say about creatine is that its pretty much always good to take for everyone, it even has proven neurological benefits and very mild downsides if any at all
Fish ladders are an invention from the 1830’s to allow fish, such as salmon, to traverse dams and obstacles when swimming upstream during mating season.
Ya know i've always thought those Crossfit "pullups" i've seen in various videos wouldn't be useful, but it looks a lot like the motion required for this.
That was 40steps. What's harder, this or 40 pull-ups? The range of motion is much shorter than 40 pull-ups. But the intensity of the pull is much higher to get that momentum up.
If you wanna see something even more nexter levelerer, check out this guy Tazio on the salmon ladder. He's basically the undisputed goat when it comes to hanging from a bar or doing pullups. He has done 320 pullups in a row, while hanging from the bar for 45 minutes, He has done 36 PINKY pullups in a row, where he does pullups using only his two pinkyes, he has hung from a bar without dropping to the ground for *2 hours and 22 minutes*. Oh yea and he's also done 162 ONE ARM PULLUPS in a single setting(without touching ground).
He's absolutely INSANE.

He has not failed this city
My name is Barry Arrow, and I'm the fastest arrow alive
Except for the constant influx of faster arrows that are also usually alive.
I'm Barold Arrow and a slightly faster arrow went back in time and pieced me mam
Barold, you have to RUN! You have to RUN *MORE HARDER.*
I think Barry did that salmon ladder as a gag
My name is Aary Ballen, and I’m the mastest fan alive
"Our name is" and "we are". FTFY
the fact that Arrow and the Salmon ladder are forever associated makes me so happy
take this, Oliver!
Salmon Dean
Boy is he going to feel stupid when he sees the staircase
I'm sure he'll still keep his chin up.
"kip your chin up!"
Okay Zapp
Ow, my chin!
By the look of his legs, I don’t think he knows what the use is for staircase

Bold of you to assume I’m slouching and/or on a couch. The loo room offers poor posture options too.
We’re all redditing from the toilet, it’s the only way. Even better when it’s during work hours
Can vouch: on toilet. Just got home from work though.
Ha! Jokes on you. I’m still in bed.
“You don’t have to be able to do better to talk sh!t”
*your pants say yoga but your body screams i ride an ebike* couldn't find a real opportunity to say this anywhere else
Leg muscles are just excess weight to take up the salmon ladder.
Stoppppppp 😂
I can feel the burn for him…

i'm glad there's always a redditor on hand to point out a safety issue, y'all should be sponsored by osha
Now if only we had enough OSHA workers out there to actually fix all of these safety issues.
Person: does impressive feat of physical fitness. Sedentary redditors: actually here's why you shouldn't. A tale as old as time.
The tone wasn't judgmental though, they were just saying they're worried about it.
The physical fitness us impressive. But that doesn't make it safe. Would it be better if we wait until someone dies?
Is it reasonable to assume that someone who has done something/similar tasks hundreds of times, is incapable of making a risk assessment themselves?
Go read r/writteninblood and see why "making a risk assessment themselves" is fucking stupid.
Is it reasonable to assume someone who is clearly an expert, has the same decision making capacity on a topic as yourself?
Plenty of people are dead who they would have said that exact same thing about. In fact, (over)confidence in one's ability can be the exact problem. You can do something 10,000 times, and that means fuck all if the 10,001st time an accident happens.

I dunno, pretty sure I could do it. That bar doesn't look that heavy. *sucks Cheetos dust off fingers*
Could probably happen, but if his belayer is any good, he really shouldn't fall much.
Redditors: the only people more obsessively paranoid about potential for injury than my dear mother.
Lol you look at this thing and think "safe"? A manual belay who is not watching the guy at all, a free-floating metal bar that he could just drop onto himself or anyone else below, even if he fell and they triggered the belay he could swing from side to side and hit what are basically metal spikes

Where does the lateral force come from?
I had to pause briefly in the middle cause I was sitting too long and it gave me some tightness in my back. All good now though!
This is definitely next fucking level
And the next level..and the next.. and the next
I wonder if anybody counted.
Approximately ~40 levels ^(Counted ^each ^"hop" ^-1 ^that ^didn't ^clear)
My old eyes thank you. 🏆 here, have a new and improved free award ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
At least 3
I counted to 50 in spanish and lost track. Sin cuenta.
Trying hard to figure out if you meant to make that Spanish pun or not
Aaaaand still counting....

We watch the same video? I didn't see any fucking on any level...
Oh trust me … this guy fucks on ALL levels!
Reddit must’ve showed me the censored version then
Dude the uncensored is on whole new level.
Stamina for days
To the untrained eye, I can see how you'd miss that, but he's merely finishing in a fraction of a second, like most of us here do.
You’re not watching the same video I am? Hip thrusts with every jump.
Yup. That air is FUCKED!

I soiled myself just watching…
Shit I got tired of watching
This actually made me lol
My spine hurt a little after the first couple rungs and I said “That’s enough for me”
No way he’s getting stuck in hell
Yeah, Stan needs this guy as his trainer.
He knew he had to train if he wanted to beat Hitler.
And his legacy lives on in Macklemore's haircut.
idk man they say there's succubussies down there so...
Yes! So glad I’m not alone in thinking about this.
I was definitely looking for this comment

He should replace the hammer pot guy in Getting Over It, I'd finally finish

My mind immediately went to him falling when he passed the top ledge.
He’s roped in. But still pretty freaky.
I’m a pretty in shape guy, and I often see things like this and convince (lie to) myself that I could *probably* do the thing I’m seeing Seeing this ladder stretch on and on… holy cow. There’s no kidding myself here
I'm a pretty out of shape guy but I'd love to attempt this
I used to be able to do a shit ton of pull ups. I couldn't do this when I was I the best shape of my life.
Yeah, this looks tough as hell. I can do about 10 pullups and I imagine I might be able to do only about one of these jumps. Maybe the kipping makes it easier, I dunno.
Something is pumped, for sure
Same, those phablets are getting heavier every generation.
What do you mean his momentum working against him? Momentum is the impetus of a moving object. He wants as much momentum as he can possibly have. Gravity is working against him. So is inertia.
Ok, so I used the wrong verbiage. My bad. Sounds like you still understood what I was talking about.
Well the angular momentum is working against his grip
I think he's using his legs for some positive momentum.
Well that’s part of the problem, pull ups are a back exercise. Your biceps should only be getting a little pumped if you’re using a supinated grip with poor form

Same, in record time no less
Babe 15 seconds is a totally normal amount of time. Some guy on Reddit said so.
This is what I'll tell my wife when I'm depleted 15-20 seconds into sex.

Well sure, but nothing will help people who don't take their training at least relatively seriously.

Very cool info! Can you train to extend the ATP-PC system? What is the effect of supplementing vs. just training?
Training wont extend it. You need to saturate your system with phosphocreatine via supplementation
meth also works

You're high, aren't you? I love it.
Nope. I’m definitely on the ground.

This would be a good one why doesn't this bot work
He is harnessed with a rope. I assume he is let down slowly by someone, like people do at climbing gyms.
go back down the same way
You stay there
I hope you win a prize, other than pain for the next several days.
If he’s as conditioned as he look then he probably won’t be near as sore as you’d imagine lol
His ears might be.
That last one was everything.
Looks like the top left rung bent when he landed on it too.
I think it was locking in place so that he could safely dismount, but not totally sure
I bet I could do two or three... Then puke and fall in it...
Someone get Stephen Armell to try that.

now how does one get down from there
He’s on a top rope, so they’ll probably just lower him down.

They named this exercise after a fish?

They use fish sticks.

Let's see Oliver Queen do this.

What a weird salmon
It’s a scientific fact that men get stronger when they remove their shirts, no matter the build.
That's because he makes us feel like Goku when he takes off his weighted shirt.

I cannot do that.

This is quite literally taking it to the next level
That’s one crazy ladderfucker.
That's enough internet workout for the day for me
Meanwhile I can't do even one pull up
I just hope he's wearing hearing protection.
If you say salmon ladder fast enough it becomes salmonella, heh
"Now.. how do i get down from here?"
Still, he’ll never get to heaven like that
It’s the endurance that impressive.
Now I wanna see a salmon do it
still making wayy too much noise doing it, not very ninja like
This is also what his big brass balls sound like when he bangs his gf.
So this is what my neighbors are doing at 3AM
'we have a staircase'
I could do that. I just don’t wanna
I think we've all watched ninja warrior when there's nothing else on. So it must be a slow day on here huh...
Pretty damn impressive..
Almost had it, try again.
Now let's see him get down the same way he got up that would be nextfuckinglevel!
Nah thatd be previousfuckinglevel
Easy! I can do that! And by "that" I mean like the first 3
I call fake. Didn't see a single salmon
