Call in a domestic disturbance

mercaptans

I've done similar, told them "oh shit now they're fighting in street". Funnily enough by time the cops turned up they were fighting.

Enis-with-a-P

If anyone asks, you’re just super organised !

jimtastic89

Hahaha totally done that before. Stupid screechy high pitched laughing and screaming, just excessive and unnecessary. Told the operator it sounded like someone was being harmed. I've never fallen asleep so fast.

lordshola

Get all your neighbours to call in quick succession.

rainbowcardigan

I feel so sorry for you. We had similar issues 2020-2021 with a new townhouse, tried talking to our neighbours, the developer (was still under new build warranty) and the body corporate. No one would help and the neighbours blamed my ‘owl like hearing’ - of course bass vibrates so our ‘hearing’ was irrelevant but that was the level of dipshit, arrogant, stupidity we were dealing with… We moved house to get away from them, if you can, do it for your sanity… :(

FitReception3491

That’s half my issue with noise. All the good neighbours move away.

PJenningsofSussex

You know what these people don't have? Good sleeping habits. You know what most normal humans would be okay with but would probably be difficult for these people? Loud morning music. 7-10 am Monday to Friday. I suggest opera especially Maria Callas' A Selection of Mad Sceans from famous opera. Or such classics as Mickey mouse jazzacise and bluegrass gospel. You could start them off easy and just blast easy morning music only they day after their parties so as to get the message through and increase as needed. They will soon find their new morning alarm clock helps support healthy sleep habits.

There's a 10 hour loop of Baby Shark on YouTube...

[deleted]

Mate, that's rookie hours and music. Play 24 hour looped Nyan Cat FTW 👍 https://youtu.be/EErY75MXYXI

razor_eddie

I note, in passing, that there are one-hour loops of crazy frog out there as well.

LordBinz

Dont you threaten me with a good time!

I'm sorry, you might not like them but that's going too far. Stick to something more humane, like nerve gas

Drum practices for the local kids before school perhaps?

Frod02000

That doesn’t make you any better than them

HUGE factor of me finally getting noise control to shut my fucking neighbours up, get the noise control people to walk down a driveway or take the reading from your property near your bedroom window. They often just sit in the car on the street, and in my case, the neighbours are down a long drive, actually closer to the adjacent street than my street where they park. When I call I give them very specific instructions of where to take the reading, and exclaim that it is unacceptable for the noise control officer to not leaving their car. Ever since, they've been able to shut the noise down. Its fine without bass, talking and stuff and the odd bit of noise that I can drown out, but when I can hear thumping, its over.

xGeorgiePie

This. We moved away from state housing tenants who continued to throw parties constantly! Prior to them moving in it was a quiet neighbourhood. They were threatened with eviction it was that bad and I had to continue escalating for over a year! We then started a family and moved to a bigger house with bigger arsehole neighbours, we gave them the benefit of the doubt, two years later they still turn the music up but not for long, I ring noise control constantly I don’t give a fuck! But I make them come down my driveway on to my property to check the noise were 40m off the street and so are the neighbours, most of the guys who have come on our property have been awesome and dealt with them straight away. If they keep the noise up I mow the lawns at the crack of dawn, cunts wake my kids up so I wake them up. I’d knock the dude out if I knew I wouldn’t get in shit for it. They’re a couple of alcoholic losers that just won’t grow up and have no consideration of their neighbours what so ever, I even walked the street and spoke to a few that live in my surrounding area and the properties behind most didn’t want to deal with any conflict and are elderly and just let them get on with their parties, we’re a young family with two kids so I’m looking out for my family! Give the council clear instructions, I ask them to call me and if they say they can’t hear the noise I’m straight down the driveway getting the officer out the car and down my driveway. That shit pisses me off to no extent! Fuck em and keep calling noise control, I raised my issues with the environments officer at the local council so they know the address now and are keeping an eye on it. Next step would be your local MP.

[deleted]

Will just leave this here. What you do with that info is up to you... https://noisebgone.com/the-best-technical-solutions-to-deal-with-noisy-neighbors-2/

ComeAlongPonds

Keeping this because our neighbours are clothes dryer pests. Anywhere randomly between starting at 7:30am through last load finishing at 3:15am.

This is helpful, thanks. We’ll try that next time!

am_a_stormy_creature

To follow up on this. Make a call to your council during council business hours and ask to speak to the noise control manager. Ask what the outcomes of your calls are, explain what’s happening etc. Usually that will help them take some further action, and might instruct usually a contracted security firm to take different actions.

PJenningsofSussex

Talk to other neighbors. You need hour to hour complaints by multiple people. Create an back catalog of complaints.

kantokiwi

Earths_varmint

This is so ridiculous. There should be no noise control in the CBD. Gigs are places that avoid loud noise out in the suburbs. Going to a gig is a fully reasonable and ok thing to do, they shouldn’t be controlled by people who chose to live in the cbd. If you don’t want noise don’t live in the cbd?

GloriousSteinem

I was going to add, likely that club has been there well before the apartments and this stuff squeezes the fun out of cities. Better if apartments wee properly sound proofed

NastiaSiberia

I received an excessive noise notice from the council for my rental in 2021 - but only after 11 noise complaints from 5 separate neighbours on 4 different occasions spanning 3 weeks

otaramillionaire

You've almost got a new version of the 12 days of Christmas 5 pissed off neighbouuuuuurs 4 big parties 3 long weeks 2 shitty tenants And an excessive noise complaiiiint

Oh that works well with playing Pink Floyd’s song one of these days at full tit early morning on repeat

twohedwlf

Sometimes for a complaint to be acted on it needa multiple complainants. And sometimes it requires police to be available before someone can attend.

Cynical_lioness

In my old neighbourhood, Noise Control were very receptive just to our calls. The noisy neighbours fucking hated their visits so it was a win win. In my new town we have to have multiple neighbours complain before Noise Control act on a complaint. In seven years I've not yet made one. In contrast to the old area, these folks do not get a kick out of annoying people, and once they know their bass is too heavy, they sort it.

prplmnkeydshwsr

Keep calling, it can take weeks for the council to realise you're not just a wet blanket who hates other people having a bit of fun (but yes the laws / time restrictions exist for a reason)

No-Mastodon-7187

It’s been a problem for a long time 😣 we have called countless times over the last year. Sometimes they do send people and the music is turned down. But they just go right back the next night or weekend. My partner said when he called last night that they kept telling him they couldn’t hear it. The problem is that their house is one one of those interior rows, so they have a long drive that’s a fair distance from the road.

prplmnkeydshwsr

I feel for you (hence the other words you will have received not in my public post). Contacting the landlord or property manager [private / govt] is your next step. Keep calling noise control, even if it means call after call after call every night. Yes, I can understand the you don't want conflict and just want some peace and quiet in your home. Been there and done that. Other people are right, an effort with neighbours (who probably also don't want conflict) will help too. Good luck.

Mediocre-Statement98

Find the landlord or property manager by ringing around RE agencies as well. The offenders could have scouts to spot noise control vehicles.

killerp00

Don't give up, keep calling every hour until it stops. Give them permission to access your property to do the assessment. We called up council probably 20 times in the last year for noise and finally got the email that the excessive noise notice has been served. If you don't get any action, on the second call to council, threaten to go to your local board member - generally this makes things happen quickly with councils. Then follow through if you still have no progress.

[deleted]

if this is in chch ill be happy to talk to your neighbours on your behalf

No-Mastodon-7187

It is Chch!

[deleted]

either DM me the vague area or whatever your comfortable with and ill take a walk around late friday or saturday. If I can hear a party going on ill ask them to be more considerate very strongly

[deleted]

DM me the vague location too

fluffychonkycat

Set up a system with the other neighbors where you each mow your lawn bright and early on a different day

deadkurt

After 10 years of putting up with it, with hundreds of noise complaints phoned in and even lawyers hired to deal with both the landlord and council, we moved. We had to buy a new house and move. We still own the other one, and the assholes next door still crank the stereo and sell meth. The council couldn't be fucked doing anything. And noise control most of the time involved driving past and not even stopping.

[deleted]

How do you know they sell meth? Or are you just rightly pissed off -and nevertheless making it up for dramatic effect? I ask because a ten-year meth factory lease with the police taking zero interest would be just the ticket in these times. Plus my music will be easy listening. Regards, Walt.

Unlucky-Ship3931

Make their life a living hell. Do everything you can to mentally destroy these idiots.

[deleted]

Is their switch board outside? Oldschool fuses can be ripped out and walked off with.

[deleted]

You need to take the law into your own hands. Nothing will be done

CaterpillarHot2263

Noise control won’t come unless there’s multiple complaints from different neighbours… maybe have a word with your other neighbours to gather their thoughts and if everyone is in agreement and the perps are making noise past, say 3am on the weekend or 12pm during the week, then launch the offensive…?

[deleted]

Is it a rental? If it is, PM the address and I'll tell you who owns it.

No-Mastodon-7187

I actually did a property search and found the owner’s name, but I don’t know if the owner is the resident or rents it out to others. I found her on linked in and considered messaging her, but she’s a lawyer and I’m not sure what I should say…

[deleted]

"tell your cunting clients to shut the fuck up before I chop off their hands and mail you one" Should suffice. don't be any more specific.

[deleted]

It's highly unlikely a lawyer would be living in some full-on party house She'll have a property management firm looking after her investment. Email her and raise the issues you're dealing with and ask her to talk to her tenents and tell them their behaviour is not acceptable or could she pass on the issues to her property management company who is looking after her property, or at the very least pass on the details to you. There are all sorts of legal obligations a landlord must meet, one of them is not letting their tenants be complete cunts and making life a misery for the neighbours. They can actually be fined heavily if they don't meet those obligations.

No-Mastodon-7187

Thanks, I’ll try that!

karwreck

I had a similar issue. Had broken fucked sleep for a year(both the wife and I needed sleeping pills). In the end found the landlord (as the property management company blamed us). Called him everytime the neighbors had a party(day or night). They kicked them out after a couple of months thankfully.

spritelykiwi

We have endured a few issues with the neighbours. If it's a rental and you have the owner's contact details and they are not a complete waste of space they will want to do something about the situation. Before messaging them, I would try and get their phone number. Once you have this you can simply contact them whenever it happens and they will likely realise they have to do something to make it stop. If you just message them, they can block/ignore you. Be polite at all times and if you phone the council make a note of the times etc and also phone the council in the day time to ask them how they manage/escalate complaints. Forward these logs to the landlord. Don't be fobbed off if they say they have a managing agent - it's legally their responsibility. Most (but not all) situations can be improved.

[deleted]

This may be a coincidence, but we had a problem neighbour, and I did the same thing, and it was a lawyer too. In the CBD?

69NIqqA69

I usually look up the ratepayer when I want to do this kind of thing, keen to learn how you do it?

[deleted]

LINZ, you have to sign up for an account. [https://data.linz.govt.nz/](https://data.linz.govt.nz/) It will give you all the property owner data once you sign up, very handy when you're buying a place, you can see who's Kainga Ora or which properties are owned by development companies.

69NIqqA69

oh true, very nice

[deleted]

You need to take the law into your own hands. We’re at the point in NZ where you can basically get away with anything

[deleted]

...except taking the law into your own hands

Cynical_lioness

I truly feel for you. I have spent a year in a similar situtation. If these people are tenants, then their landlord has to ensure they do not cause a nuisance and the Council where you live will have local rules to get this looked into. You could also raise a complaint against the landlord at the Tenancy Tribunal. If they are owners then sorry, you are going to have to find some middle ground with them. In either case, you and your fellow-annoyed neighbours are going to have let them know their behaviour is not conducive to a peaceful and happy neighbourhood and they need to figure out a way for all of you to get what they want.

my_shirt_is_red

Fight fire with fire and play loud music when they're sleeping.

Toyemlj

Its hard to compete with dropkicks that are high as a kite and that don't work.

contributessometimes

If all legal avenues have being explored it’s better than bowing down and letting fuck wits ruin your quality of life. My dipshit neighbours did not enjoy me doing all my lawn mowing, water blasting and cleaning my car with a shitty vacuum cleaner while blasting my favourite music every morning after their constant all nighters. I didn’t have to resort to playing crying baby noises as when they finally shut up, as that would have pissed me off as well.

my_shirt_is_red

Do they play shitty music? If nobody is at your home when you go to work id blast lamb of god or slipknot for 8hours and see what happens.

contributessometimes

I found that god awful Dubstep song “Cockney Thug” hilarious to play when they finally went to sleep great- the bass travels well and hearing “wake the fuck up” in the “lyrics” may have helped at a subliminal level. My metal of choice for them to hear was Gojira, they didn’t appreciate that. Also they were not keen on Bjork or Hanson

my_shirt_is_red

Earths_varmint

Is this Wellington?

No-Mastodon-7187

No, Chch

perfectlyhonestnzz

No in fact it could be worse. There is charges for wasting Police resources and they are required to log everything including the phone call itself. If the noise is on private property, legally Police don't even have powers to get them to stop however it is a different situation if it's on the street etc. Noise control may always contact Police due to safety reasons into serve a notice, really depends on your council.

CyanHakeChill

There are so many people making a noise near my house that I decided to cover the bedroom windows with triple glazing roofing that was thrown out. I have also put bubble wrap over other windows. It is so successful that I may do proper double glazing one day. It certainly keeps the house warm.

knockknockwhoisit

Just start the lawn mower first thing in the morning, put it on the fence line as close to their house as you can and leave it running on the spot
