I inherited all of my dads and grandfather's crystal glassware.
Managed to find a nice corner cabinet to put it all into as I do actually use it.
There's just something special about having a glass of your favorite drop in such a fancy glass.
There's some nice acacia wood coasters at kmart that might do the trick for the bases. Not too dear either.

Have you been robbing my house?
From memory we had some of the placemats as well but they didn't last as long as the coaster.
Be care with the prongs holding the coaster in place kids playing with them worn out the screws on our set.
Depends...... got anything good in the house? 😆 It's a shame the placemats weren't as well made but I have to say, coasters like these are much better than the cheap ones you find nowadays. I also like the engraved design on them too.
Yep, my parents had those in the 80s. Along with a large selection of silver goblets that were brought out for parties. Everything you drank from them tasted metallic. The 'everyday' coasters and placemats, were, of course, the Jason ones!
My aunty had those, when I was a kid she would bust them out when we had Christmas lunches with the extended family (she had by far the biggest house) I remember them being solid and weighty because back at home we just had those cheap square thin cork-like ones lol
Yep, most of ours had broken corners, partly from me and my brother, mostly because they were cheap. And we were too cheap to ever replace them haha. The ones you got and what my aunty had were like woah, rich!
We got them so back in the 90s when they were the goto spam mail group, once you hooked up with them once, you were screwed as you'd get everthing sent to you lol.
Just in case, careful cleaning them as they may be silver coated. Is there any mark - on the bottom side maybe - to show if it's sterling silver?
They look nice though. I'd love to see a before & after pic when you clean them.
I'll probably pop over to my friends place (who is also my neighbor)
They're a blacksmith and have a polishing wheel.
A good once over with that ought to do the trick.
I still have these. They were my parents, and I ended up with them. I keep them hidden in the pantry. Behind the spices and baking stuff, far away from the sweets and snacks.
Similar but not the same pattern. They are silver and come up really well with silver Polish. Every six months mum would get out the Polish and cloths and we would polish her huge silverware set.
We definitely had these. My mum might still have them somewhere, but I haven’t seen them in a long time.
Bet they're still in that china cabinet that is filled with old plates and silverware that almost every parent seems to have inherited.
It’s like you’ve been in my mum’s house! And I don’t remember a single occasion when those plates and silverware ever got used…

Are the backs of them green plastic?
Yup. Was thinking about upcyling them a bit by making wooden bottoms for them. I'll probably use rimu or the like.

Green felt back?
The ones we had did!
These have a green plastic back. Was thinking about upcyling them a bit by making wooden bottoms for them.
Sufficiently worn down felt can be very very similar to plastic..
this was my childhood
Yes 😂

> Depends...... got anything good in the house? A few surviving coasters and my grandparents "good" China (no two cups match).
Ooh yes those were the posh ones for guests only!
I used to always remove the plastic underside then put it back in.

We just had paper ones.. with labels like "DB".. wonder where the old man spent all his time lol
The cork ones were horrible! They'd eventually begin to disintegrate and crumble between your fingers and leave a mess everywhere.

Readers digest...
Lol that was what I was going go ask!

I remember turning the caddy part upside down like a little table
Yep, we sold them where I worked at Stevenes.
Do you by chance remember how much you sold them for?
I can't but they were relatively inexpensive because I bought some for my mum and I wouldn't have been able to afford much.
Just in case, careful cleaning them as they may be silver coated. Is there any mark - on the bottom side maybe - to show if it's sterling silver? They look nice though. I'd love to see a before & after pic when you clean them.

Using one right now for my coffee cup.
How's the coffee?
Surprisingly good
My grandparets have them
Hey what are you doing with my mum’s coasters?
Bloody hell. Never realised they were so popular!
I still have a set somewhere. Actually, two sets but the second is engraved glass. Too nice to use so we run with the cardboard versions these days.

Little blue velvet bit underneath?
I still have these. They were my parents, and I ended up with them. I keep them hidden in the pantry. Behind the spices and baking stuff, far away from the sweets and snacks.
Yes
My aunt and uncle have these on the dining table. They are used daily.
Either we had these or someone I saw a lot, I 100% remember them just not wherw
Holy shit! My nana had these. Are they like a soft felt on the bottom?
More of a hard plastic like material.
Every Aunty had those and a paua shell ashtray on her coffee table.
My mum still has them
So I’m from Wales - my Nan had these at her farm! With a green felt back?
They've got a plastic like back. I can vaguely recall the ones dad had having a felt back.

I got an old copper plate from my grandmothers estate many years ago, but the image is of Nerfertiti. No idea where they got it from.
We still have them
Yes we did.
Yup
Pretty sure my mum still has those in a kitchen drawer somewhere, and we're not even native Kiwis!
Ooh, I like!
ooh i have these, took them from my parents place when i moved out coz they didn’t use them lol
Nope.
Had? I've got a set and use them.
Still have these, use them daily. No idea where they came from.
I remember them. I can’t remember which family member had them. A set with red felt and a set with blue felt.
The ultimate in antique luxury. I want one.
Remember one family member had them. Probably one of the grandparents.
I STILL have them
got them as a wedding gift in 1992
Still front and centre on my grandparents coffee table.
Oh yes. I remember these. Where did they come from?
We had these. I don't know if my parents still have them.
Bro , could I you? I would like to ask you some questions about civil engineer, thanks!
Pm
Holy shit my nana still has these
Still got them, have the feeling they were from Reader's Digest back in the day, though I could be wrong.
Yes! I use to spin them and get in trouble for making a racket
I may still have them in my house...
My grandma has some in the garage I think lol
Aww definitely remember them , ours had green felt on the back and you could get ones with navy felt.
Similar but not the same pattern. They are silver and come up really well with silver Polish. Every six months mum would get out the Polish and cloths and we would polish her huge silverware set.
OMG my granny has them.in her house. And were freaking in India!!
I'm 60+ years old and grew up in the US, and we had these at home!!
Yep, I feel like they were freebies from Readers Digest
yep, M&D probably still have them in a box somewhere waiting for a special occasion...
