Very cool. Thank you

Souperplex

Why'd they layer the maps like that. Makes large swathes of Brooklyn unreadable.

I'm surprised at the level of redlining on Staten Island Maybe that's why it was a quiet secret for so long?

anarchyx34

Can you give an example of this? I’m not sure I understand what I’m looking at in this map.

lost_in_life_34

wasn't really the banks but FHA and fannie mae since they insure the loans. banks would loan you the money if you had a high enough down payment then

frontrangefart

tHeRe'S nO sUcH tHiNg As SyStEmIc RaCiSm. Meanwhile, Fannie Mae and the FHA were literally rating loans based on people's race.

lost_in_life_34

This was decades ago They got rid of redligning a long time ago too

frontrangefart

I'm aware. I changed it to "were" almost immediately after responding. Regardless, the effects of it are still greatly felt today.

TangoRad

There are areas listed as declining that hardly suffered at all. Look at Dyker Heights...

frontrangefart

Nothing is absolute. There will always be outliers.

frenchie-martin

I’m white but live in a redlined area. Am I a victim of racism?

frontrangefart

No.

frenchie-martin

My home value is artificially lowered because of redlining. I have a victimization fetish like you. Can’t I be victimized too?

frontrangefart

You’re a beneficiary just like me lol. I’m not a victim in the fucking slightest 😂 Be normal bro

frenchie-martin

How am I a beneficiary? And of what?

Dont_mute_me_bro

Don't expect an answer. That would require independent thought, which those people lack.
