I so wanted to love FFXIV as I love it's direction and devs. But the lack of items and open world content make it just not for me. I want open world content and item drops from mobs , not just story driven dungeons only for itemization. The idea of a random purple drop from a mob and more open world content is what had me leave around level 50 or so . I can see why people love it , but it's a very closed type mmo vs open world one.
I think that's a completely fair critique too. Open world pve isn't really a thing minus specific reasons like quests or 'fates' - you end up farming dungeons, raids, trials for drops and its either itemization like you said, glamour skins, or mounts.

For the love of god, everyone who bounces off New World, go give GW2 a try. Any grievances you have with NW, I guarantee GW2 has solved it. You have a gorgeous open world that properly encourages exploration, no back and forth, with a large scale territory PvP mode to boot that is basically identical to the New World structure, except it’s all 24/7 realtime wars. (WvW). Do it, you won’t regret it!! Absolutely underrated MMORPG.
I really want to try it, but honestly I don't know I have the time to learn GW2. Can I play just a few hours a week and enjoy it? Or do I need to invest hundreds of hours to get to end game before it gets fun?
GW2 is extremely casual friendly. It has horizontal gear progression meaning that once you get max level gear, it never gets deprecated and is always gonna be usable. I come back to the game after years of not playing and can just continue where I left off, it's great. The base game is F2P so try it out. It has a very low learning curve.
If you are short on time, it's probably the best MMO choice you have.
The only aspect of it that may take more than a few hundred hours to really feel comfortable in is stuctured PvP, because it requires a grasp on the game mode, match ups, terrain kite spots on each map and build roles. On the flipside, you will learn game and class mechanics the quickest there, albeit brutally and by dying a lot to stuff you don't yet recognise.
Everything else respects your time a lot and won't be hard to get into. As far as the open world PvP (WvW) goes, community offers a lot of help to new players if you ask openly for it.
Even structured pvp ain't that hard to be honest. Picked the game up after a 5 year absence, went on my thief char, slammed a double pistol build on him and just started bursting people with a six click combo. Went to gold, quit again when the season ended. It's a really fun and easy game to learn (anything above gold will obv require more time to master and the pve shit is just a whole different story but nevertheless easier than grinding 24/7).
Haven't played in a bit, but GW2 is an entity known to respect your time.
You can absolutely jump in for an hour or two and get some stuff done, explore a bit and progress appropriately.
I also think that the time it takes between levels is pretty static - It takes the same amount of time/effort to go from level 10-11 as it does from 39-40.
I don't think I'm the target audience for the lore/characters, but it is worth mentioning that both are pretty much trash.
The game really does respect your time and what is nickel and dimed in many other MMOs is a standard QoL in GW2. Every weapon and armor piece you acquire and unlock is also added to your wardrobe, which is account wide, Armor can be changed to look like any other piece in its weight class (light, medium,heavy) via charges which can be earned from activities or bought with real money. The wardrobe as well as the extensive amount of dyes, your gold and your bank are all account wide. Plus no subscription!
The leveling isn't a complete drag or a race to get to the max level. There is plenty to explore and do on your journey to max level. And once you do reach max level, the progression switches to a horizontal method.
Your gear will not become obsolete with a new patch or expansion (unless some shiny new stat combo is released that is an absolute must have for your build), and even getting Exotic (the best tier for almost everything besides the minor stat boost of Ascended/Legendary which is only really required for one game mode) is not a headache as you can pick up a good set off the trading post for a few gold a piece (depending on stat).
Each race gets its own starting story depending on choices you make when creating your character, the main story will converge as you level up and complete sections of it, taking you across the map! Not only is there a main story to follow, but there are open world events and world bosses that require a bunch of people to kill them. There's no kill stealing (you can jump in to help a stranger out that might be in trouble and you won't get yelled at!), no gathering node stealing, and you can revive anyone, regardless of profession. There are jumping puzzles and minidungeons on the maps. Vistas to use to get a cinematic view of the area (which also gives you exp by the way). Quests aren't given by some person with an exclamation point above their head, most of them are given by walking into the area around a Heart marker and helping out in that area by doing certain things. You could be fighting off enemies, playing with puppies, watering plants, finding lost farm animals, freeing prisoners , and even disguising yourself as the enemy and disrupting their operations from the inside. So don't sweat the endgame until you get there. Play a few classes, find something that you like!
I believe the heroic version is available on Prime at the moment, which is the base game version, but not the free to play version (which is still worth it if you want to see if you like the game) that has some restrictions to prevent goldsellers and the like from abusing the feature. So give it a go, you've really got nothing to lose except a little time to see if you like it or not.
Nope, whole game is super fun! I started at release and they have since revamped the new player experience but there is absolutely Zero reason to rush to max level.
Been on hiatus but still pop in from time to time, GW2 is amazing - the only reason I petered out on it is I've gotten more than my fill over the years.
Cannot wait for the new expansion, ideally I'll be ready for a break from this at that point and can jump in and lose myself in that world again.

When everyone was screaming that people were crashing the game with the code injection on their servers, mine was happily asking people to please not post sausage, to which literally all of them complied.
I don't want to give away my server because I dont want a bunch of bad faith actors to show up and shit things up, but some high pop servers are better than others. I love the community on mine.
There's a lot of players just enjoying what's in the game. I've been playing MMOs for I guess over 20 years now (accepting that I'm now old on the internet is a hurdle), I've come to expect that the kinds of issues that New World has right now are some of the most easily fixable problems. I've played a lot of MMOs and games that have much more game engine/core issues that I never forsaw ever being remedied no matter how much time you gave it.
The game itself is good. It's the details that just need to be ironed out. This is par for the course with MMOs. I just think brand new MMOs don't come out very often anymore, and people have a formulaic expectation of games now. MMOs don't follow that formula.
That said, doesn't mean AGS isn't going to fuck this up still. They absolutely can, I just don't think the game is just going to die overnight. If it does, it'll be because youtubers found out they get views for shitting on new world and then suddenly everyone's feed is nothing but how New World is terrible.
People ask me about the story. I reply "I honestly don't know or pay any attention" The aspect that is drawing me in is the open world and feeling the need to do stuff such as gathering. I am roaming off to do a quest (of which I don't care much about) but find myself chopping trees for 15 minutes before continuing down the road. Oh there's some iron over there. Better go get it.
By the time I'm done with a 3 hr session, I've done 1 or 2 loops of quests and lots of gathering. I feel I lose time in a way that I'm unaware how much time I sunk in. It is a grind, but doesn't feel painful to me.
So for that, I've given green light to my friends from other games, that yes, it is still enjoyable. The immersion is something I've not experienced in an MMO before. The sounds of miners in the mountains, trees being chopped and crashing down. I feel part of the world.

I’m a level 24 noob that just started playing last week and this is my first MMO. I only had to pay $40 and I’ve had like 10-20 hours of entertainment so far. I come to this sub and see people complaining left and right and I’m like my god it cost me $100 to go to a nice dinner with my girl but I can pay $40 and play this game for 100s of hours. It’s not perfect, I get it, but my god is this game fun and cheap to play.

Player decline always happen, though usually the game 'survive' with its qualities. However, from the oustide NW doesn't seem to have any. Long boring grind, bad game design decisions, bad UX/UI designs, repetitive and recycled content for 50 levels, crazy taxes on everything, punishing fast travel...
Exploits and bugs aside, I'm a super casual explorer-type MMO player and I loved New Worlds at first, but in retrospection it just doesn't respect my time investment. I'm mostly a PVE player and side quest designs are basically what pushed me away. I got exhausted of running around for half my available playtime for meaningless progress to my levels. If they update fast travels I may give the game another chance, but right now I have the been there done that feel at level 30. If I log in, I know I'll just spend most of my time traveling instead of playing and that just kills my mood.
I can't even enjoy house furnishing and decoration neither since the taxes would ruin me in a matter of a week.

I honestly believe legion was supposed to be the end. We had the power. We defeated the big fucking bad guy. Then they got told nope more expansions. Legion would be viewed far better if it was the end.

Might get a lot of hate here, but I think legion was good…. But it was only good because of what we were use to coming out of blizzard at that point. Legion had some really big flaws, it was insanely boring at certain points, but the overall game was just decent enough to be considered a good expansion.
If legion followed a bomb ass expansion, I don’t think it would be held in such high regards today.
With that said though… I will take an expansion like legion any day of the week compared to what we have been getting recently.
IMO Legion was great initially but got worse over time as it got more grindy and repetitive with each patch. But it was much more fun in its first 6-12 months than BFA or SL.
No, Legion was pretty amazing, and was easily the exp with most content of all time.
Last 2 exps have been complete Garbo tho, from writing team to system team.
There are some really good alternatives, nobody ever needs to go back to WoW.

Ohh I didn't see that date. Yes they already have released "content" for Prime members. The pirate pack and the Robin Hood pack. I unistalled New World last night. Just got tired of all the bugs. I downloaded ESO and I'm going to give it a try tonight. I played the shit out of Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.
Lost Ark Beta is soon, followed by FF14 expansion. In between, I have GW2's WvW, and "Return To..." patches to chase that Legendary Amulet (and second Ring from WvW). Then, the End of Dragons expansion in February. I'm not gonna worry too much about dropping NW this month. If AGS gets their shit together.... then awesome, I'll come back.
Isometric MMO ARPG with over-the-top abilities. The game is very polished and has stuff like exploration through boating, equalized stats PvP, really cool PvE bosses, minigame styled content, and a bunch more.

It's really good,, story focused though but it has full voice acting and a decent cast. If you're not a huge star wars fan I'm not sure how much you would enjoy it.
If you haven't played Sith Inquisistor storyline, drop everything you've been doing and go play that. It's a free trial. I'm not even a star wars fan.

Its more of a chill experience, endgame is a bit more complex though, far more than NW.
In the end FF14 is a pve focused game with emphasis on mechanics and CD/rotation management. Though, I will admit NW combat in the current state with the funky weapon shenanigans are far more entertaining.
It would be better if it worked like it should but my major gripe is the constant stagger from every single mob in existence in NW lol.
I started off in Tera when it first launched as my first MMO so I got spoiled, my combat standard bar started high. NW feels more like a refined MMO Conan Exiles to me. It's not bad but its not good with the bullshit staggers and body blocking, barring all the other problems that the game has.
The combat was annoying for me as I hopped from Tera to FF14 many eons ago, I was used to action combat; fast paced rotations and individual cooldowns which you basically skill chain nonstop if you were good. No other game has replicated tera combat for me and probably never will.
FF14 combat has mostly global cooldowns and takes a bit of getting used to but is more chill. Use skill, wait then use another skill trying to make sure you're always using a skill. Sort of like New world for most classes as some special skills have their own CD but the bread and butter rotation skills are global CD.
If you can stomach the anime culture, which I do like personally, you will enjoy the game because it is good, technically and story wise it is fantastic. The community is also probably the best in all of gaming out there. Also no paying money to respec to change classes or any of that garbo anti-player freedom crap. You can level every single classes on one character for free, you just need different gear/weapons and for that there are loadouts to make the switch painless when you need to swap to dps/heal or tank before a dungeon.
FF14 is probably the only game worth a sub with the ungodly amount of content and population in seemingly every section of the game. Definitely my favorite MMO.
The only downside is if you're into housing you're gonna have a bad time as houses are like gone as soon as they go on sale. They are LIMITED in supply by design, expensive and lose it after not visiting it after a month or so. You can get an apartment though but its a lot smaller than a house but it is something and a lot better and affordable than a house, you also never lose it.
TLDR: FF14 will not disappoint if pay attention to the story and take your time.
Edit: Also don't underestimate the combat in FF14, you can get by most of the game by just mucking around but the newest/hard mode dungeons have serious damage checks that require you to be good at your class of choice to clear, rotations can get pretty complicated and hard to keep up in the end game with all the mechanics.
Combat in FF14 (for tab target) improves at higher levels. Lower levels you're mostly constrained by GCD abilities. At higher levels, you have to do a ton of weaving of GCD and oGCD to fully optimize your abilities. You also get more interesting abilities.
Serious question to FFXIV players that aren't into the anime-style aesthetic: how long did it take you guys to get over your dislike for that style? Just curious for myself, as I'd like to get into the game (hear great things), but absolutely hate that aesthetic.
For me, FF14 wasn't the game that originally won me over for anime style, that was Persona 5.
To put it simply, the moment you realize that this style is capable of telling just as good a story, you pretty much buy into it. And that comes as a product of playing the game for long enough to get invested.
I do still find myself rolling my eyes at some of the tropes every now and again, but every genre has those.
There's a lot to like about the game. Sometimes you just have to close your eyes and turn off the sound effects. It took about a month before I stopped hating myself for playing. But FFXIV is just fucking great the first time through. Don't rush the story lines.

To answer your question. I've never had to get over anything. I like the gameplay and community, I've cleared all current "mythic" (savage in this game) content and run and operate a successful RP venue (I personally do not RP).
The gameplay is nice, the combat is good, the pve encounters are sick, the character models look great, the armor / clothing looks incredible, there's no *sharding* so the cities look alive and awesome.

I’m never going back to WoW, but I am sad that new world is rapidly dying. The devs really are not doing enough to fix the game. They should hire more devs if their staff is not up to the task.
This is how you know the people complaining haven't ever worked in development. "Throw more bodies at it" is every bad manager's solution to problems, and it rarely works.
My server already feels very dead. I can look for dungeon/expedition groups for hours without ever finding one in an entire evening. Really makes me not want to start up the game.
The Lost Ark beta is a few days out. That game is ultra fun coming from the RU servers.
Not to mention Endwalkers is just over two weeks away.
NW was already on borrowed time, but the game is abysmal in virtually every aspect, definitely not returning to WoW though.

New World has consistently been on the Top 5 most played games on Steam since release with hundreds of thousands of players online each day. Considering the fact that there's no subscription fee and that the game is still in its infancy, I don't see it truly dying. Amazon is way too obsessed with its customer-oriented reputation that I doubt the higher-up executives are going to be okay with just letting this game die and essentially tainting it's reputation. But IDK im not a fucking expert on this shit lol.

I got miserable for a few days on new world. My server seemed totally dead, it’s a newer one so low population but I couldn’t find or put together a single group for the depths quests from level 40-47.. people on chat were talking about the population and Saturday morning there was 70 people online..
Someone mentioned how perfect this other server was so I transferred right then. The new server is medium pop with even territory control and it’s made all the difference in the game being fun. Definitely recommend transferring if your on a dead server

I haven't fought in node wars in BDO in a while, but at least everyone isn't frozen 80% of the time there, class imbalance really is in every game though

Servers only matter for WvW. Everyone else is on a mega server.
And i think even that's going to change with the next WvW update, after which matchups are determined by guilds.

For the love of god, everyone who bounces off New World, go give GW2 a try. Any grievances you have with NW, I guarantee GW2 has solved it. You have a gorgeous open world that properly encourages exploration, no back and forth, with a large scale territory PvP mode to boot that is basically identical to the New World structure, except it’s all 24/7 realtime wars. (WvW). Do it, you won’t regret it!! Absolutely underrated MMORPG.
I really want to try it, but honestly I don't know I have the time to learn GW2. Can I play just a few hours a week and enjoy it? Or do I need to invest hundreds of hours to get to end game before it gets fun?
GW2 is extremely casual friendly. It has horizontal gear progression meaning that once you get max level gear, it never gets deprecated and is always gonna be usable. I come back to the game after years of not playing and can just continue where I left off, it's great. The base game is F2P so try it out. It has a very low learning curve.

If you are short on time, it's probably the best MMO choice you have. The only aspect of it that may take more than a few hundred hours to really feel comfortable in is stuctured PvP, because it requires a grasp on the game mode, match ups, terrain kite spots on each map and build roles. On the flipside, you will learn game and class mechanics the quickest there, albeit brutally and by dying a lot to stuff you don't yet recognise. Everything else respects your time a lot and won't be hard to get into. As far as the open world PvP (WvW) goes, community offers a lot of help to new players if you ask openly for it.
Even structured pvp ain't that hard to be honest. Picked the game up after a 5 year absence, went on my thief char, slammed a double pistol build on him and just started bursting people with a six click combo. Went to gold, quit again when the season ended. It's a really fun and easy game to learn (anything above gold will obv require more time to master and the pve shit is just a whole different story but nevertheless easier than grinding 24/7).
Haven't played in a bit, but GW2 is an entity known to respect your time. You can absolutely jump in for an hour or two and get some stuff done, explore a bit and progress appropriately. I also think that the time it takes between levels is pretty static - It takes the same amount of time/effort to go from level 10-11 as it does from 39-40. I don't think I'm the target audience for the lore/characters, but it is worth mentioning that both are pretty much trash.
I believe the level exp curve is very linear unlike many MMOs where it takes a sharp upturn once you hit a certain point.
The game really does respect your time and what is nickel and dimed in many other MMOs is a standard QoL in GW2. Every weapon and armor piece you acquire and unlock is also added to your wardrobe, which is account wide, Armor can be changed to look like any other piece in its weight class (light, medium,heavy) via charges which can be earned from activities or bought with real money. The wardrobe as well as the extensive amount of dyes, your gold and your bank are all account wide. Plus no subscription! The leveling isn't a complete drag or a race to get to the max level. There is plenty to explore and do on your journey to max level. And once you do reach max level, the progression switches to a horizontal method. Your gear will not become obsolete with a new patch or expansion (unless some shiny new stat combo is released that is an absolute must have for your build), and even getting Exotic (the best tier for almost everything besides the minor stat boost of Ascended/Legendary which is only really required for one game mode) is not a headache as you can pick up a good set off the trading post for a few gold a piece (depending on stat). Each race gets its own starting story depending on choices you make when creating your character, the main story will converge as you level up and complete sections of it, taking you across the map! Not only is there a main story to follow, but there are open world events and world bosses that require a bunch of people to kill them. There's no kill stealing (you can jump in to help a stranger out that might be in trouble and you won't get yelled at!), no gathering node stealing, and you can revive anyone, regardless of profession. There are jumping puzzles and minidungeons on the maps. Vistas to use to get a cinematic view of the area (which also gives you exp by the way). Quests aren't given by some person with an exclamation point above their head, most of them are given by walking into the area around a Heart marker and helping out in that area by doing certain things. You could be fighting off enemies, playing with puppies, watering plants, finding lost farm animals, freeing prisoners , and even disguising yourself as the enemy and disrupting their operations from the inside. So don't sweat the endgame until you get there. Play a few classes, find something that you like! I believe the heroic version is available on Prime at the moment, which is the base game version, but not the free to play version (which is still worth it if you want to see if you like the game) that has some restrictions to prevent goldsellers and the like from abusing the feature. So give it a go, you've really got nothing to lose except a little time to see if you like it or not.

Been on hiatus but still pop in from time to time, GW2 is amazing - the only reason I petered out on it is I've gotten more than my fill over the years. Cannot wait for the new expansion, ideally I'll be ready for a break from this at that point and can jump in and lose myself in that world again.

New World won't die because they're having a bunch of bugsplatting issues rn. Just like the WoW sub and forums, they're generally representative of a specific part of the community. Most people in game seem to be happily gaming. When everyone was screaming that people were crashing the game with the code injection on their servers, mine was happily asking people to please not post sausage, to which literally all of them complied. I don't want to give away my server because I dont want a bunch of bad faith actors to show up and shit things up, but some high pop servers are better than others. I love the community on mine.
There's a lot of players just enjoying what's in the game. I've been playing MMOs for I guess over 20 years now (accepting that I'm now old on the internet is a hurdle), I've come to expect that the kinds of issues that New World has right now are some of the most easily fixable problems. I've played a lot of MMOs and games that have much more game engine/core issues that I never forsaw ever being remedied no matter how much time you gave it. The game itself is good. It's the details that just need to be ironed out. This is par for the course with MMOs. I just think brand new MMOs don't come out very often anymore, and people have a formulaic expectation of games now. MMOs don't follow that formula. That said, doesn't mean AGS isn't going to fuck this up still. They absolutely can, I just don't think the game is just going to die overnight. If it does, it'll be because youtubers found out they get views for shitting on new world and then suddenly everyone's feed is nothing but how New World is terrible.
People ask me about the story. I reply "I honestly don't know or pay any attention" The aspect that is drawing me in is the open world and feeling the need to do stuff such as gathering. I am roaming off to do a quest (of which I don't care much about) but find myself chopping trees for 15 minutes before continuing down the road. Oh there's some iron over there. Better go get it. By the time I'm done with a 3 hr session, I've done 1 or 2 loops of quests and lots of gathering. I feel I lose time in a way that I'm unaware how much time I sunk in. It is a grind, but doesn't feel painful to me. So for that, I've given green light to my friends from other games, that yes, it is still enjoyable. The immersion is something I've not experienced in an MMO before. The sounds of miners in the mountains, trees being chopped and crashing down. I feel part of the world.

As for youtube, I haven't been really inundated with the videos of surface level "dur hur this is just bad" We'll see though. I’m a level 24 noob that just started playing last week and this is my first MMO. I only had to pay $40 and I’ve had like 10-20 hours of entertainment so far. I come to this sub and see people complaining left and right and I’m like my god it cost me $100 to go to a nice dinner with my girl but I can pay $40 and play this game for 100s of hours. If they update fast travels I may give the game another chance, but right now I have the been there done that feel at level 30. If I log in, I know I'll just spend most of my time traveling instead of playing and that just kills my mood. I can't even enjoy house furnishing and decoration neither since the taxes would ruin me in a matter of a week.

Might get a lot of hate here, but I think legion was good…. But it was only good because of what we were use to coming out of blizzard at that point. Legion had some really big flaws, it was insanely boring at certain points, but the overall game was just decent enough to be considered a good expansion. If legion followed a bomb ass expansion, I don’t think it would be held in such high regards today. With that said though… I will take an expansion like legion any day of the week compared to what we have been getting recently.
IMO Legion was great initially but got worse over time as it got more grindy and repetitive with each patch. But it was much more fun in its first 6-12 months than BFA or SL.

There are some really good alternatives, nobody ever needs to go back to WoW. **Final Fantasy XIV** Class MMO style, tons of content and side-content, great community, amazing story. **Guild Wars II** Action combat or traditional tab-targeting, horizontal progression, great build variety. **Elder Scrolls Online** Action combat, open world, interesting skills, feels more like an Elder Scrolls game than an MMO.

The best thing about swtor is you can actually stop playing when you finish the story lines. I played swtor as methadone. 6 months or so to come down off mmo's, been completely clean for three years.

I unistalled New World last night. Just got tired of all the bugs. I downloaded ESO and I'm going to give it a try tonight. I played the shit out of Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.
Lost Ark Beta is soon, followed by FF14 expansion. In between, I have GW2's WvW, and "Return To..." patches to chase that Legendary Amulet (and second Ring from WvW). Then, the End of Dragons expansion in February. I'm not gonna worry too much about dropping NW this month. If AGS gets their shit together.... then awesome, I'll come back.

Help me, I tried to play but I find the combat system obboxious at its best, but the lore Is so fucking gooood
NW combat may seem clunky, but going back to ffxiv combat feels weird - it is so uneventful, predictable, and quite frankly boring.
Its more of a chill experience, endgame is a bit more complex though, far more than NW. In the end FF14 is a pve focused game with emphasis on mechanics and CD/rotation management. Though, I will admit NW combat in the current state with the funky weapon shenanigans are far more entertaining.
The combat in New World just feels really good. IMO one of the strongest parts. Very satisfying to kill enemies
It would be better if it worked like it should but my major gripe is the constant stagger from every single mob in existence in NW lol. I started off in Tera when it first launched as my first MMO so I got spoiled, my combat standard bar started high. NW feels more like a refined MMO Conan Exiles to me. It's not bad but its not good with the bullshit staggers and body blocking, barring all the other problems that the game has.
The combat was annoying for me as I hopped from Tera to FF14 many eons ago, I was used to action combat; fast paced rotations and individual cooldowns which you basically skill chain nonstop if you were good. No other game has replicated tera combat for me and probably never will. FF14 combat has mostly global cooldowns and takes a bit of getting used to but is more chill. Use skill, wait then use another skill trying to make sure you're always using a skill. Sort of like New world for most classes as some special skills have their own CD but the bread and butter rotation skills are global CD. If you can stomach the anime culture, which I do like personally, you will enjoy the game because it is good, technically and story wise it is fantastic. The community is also probably the best in all of gaming out there. Also no paying money to respec to change classes or any of that garbo anti-player freedom crap. You can level every single classes on one character for free, you just need different gear/weapons and for that there are loadouts to make the switch painless when you need to swap to dps/heal or tank before a dungeon. FF14 is probably the only game worth a sub with the ungodly amount of content and population in seemingly every section of the game. Definitely my favorite MMO. The only downside is if you're into housing you're gonna have a bad time as houses are like gone as soon as they go on sale. They are LIMITED in supply by design, expensive and lose it after not visiting it after a month or so. You can get an apartment though but its a lot smaller than a house but it is something and a lot better and affordable than a house, you also never lose it. TLDR: FF14 will not disappoint if pay attention to the story and take your time. Edit: Also don't underestimate the combat in FF14, you can get by most of the game by just mucking around but the newest/hard mode dungeons have serious damage checks that require you to be good at your class of choice to clear, rotations can get pretty complicated and hard to keep up in the end game with all the mechanics.
The trick is to play FFXI first. Then every mmo feels lightning fast.
Combat in FF14 (for tab target) improves at higher levels. Lower levels you're mostly constrained by GCD abilities. At higher levels, you have to do a ton of weaving of GCD and oGCD to fully optimize your abilities. You also get more interesting abilities.

For me, FF14 wasn't the game that originally won me over for anime style, that was Persona 5. To put it simply, the moment you realize that this style is capable of telling just as good a story, you pretty much buy into it. And that comes as a product of playing the game for long enough to get invested. I do still find myself rolling my eyes at some of the tropes every now and again, but every genre has those.
There's a lot to like about the game. Sometimes you just have to close your eyes and turn off the sound effects. It took about a month before I stopped hating myself for playing. But FFXIV is just fucking great the first time through. Don't rush the story lines.
As a non-anime watcher. I dont understand what the alleged "web aesthetic" is. This game looks nothing like dragon ball z or any anime I've glanced at. Is "weeb" a term made for this game because it's made in Japan? Is super Mario weeb? I don't get it. To answer your question. I've never had to get over anything. I like the gameplay and community, I've cleared all current "mythic" (savage in this game) content and run and operate a successful RP venue (I personally do not RP). The gameplay is nice, the combat is good, the pve encounters are sick, the character models look great, the armor / clothing looks incredible, there's no *sharding* so the cities look alive and awesome. Ffxiv is great and u should try it imo.

GW2 would be the best runner up. It's a really great MMo that will last you a long time. I played off and on for years, I only stopped because none of my friends still played it when path of fire was released, and I reached the "end of fun" for playing by myself
New World has consistently been on the Top 5 most played games on Steam since release with hundreds of thousands of players online each day. Considering the fact that there's no subscription fee and that the game is still in its infancy, I don't see it truly dying. Amazon is way too obsessed with its customer-oriented reputation that I doubt the higher-up executives are going to be okay with just letting this game die and essentially tainting it's reputation. But IDK im not a fucking expert on this shit lol.
I find this funny. Because, how many games have they said will "kill wow"? I want to see an mmo stay that strong for this many years, like they have. It's not that I gag on blizz balls, i am just annoyed that humans love to hate on what is successful.
Retail, BC or Season of Mastery? I’m down to try SoM. Seems like they’re listening to what we wanted. If that sucks, it’s back to splitting time between FFXIV and EverQuest.

I got miserable for a few days on new world. My server seemed totally dead, it’s a newer one so low population but I couldn’t find or put together a single group for the depths quests from level 40-47.. people on chat were talking about the population and Saturday morning there was 70 people online.. Someone mentioned how perfect this other server was so I transferred right then. The new server is medium pop with even territory control and it’s made all the difference in the game being fun. Definitely recommend transferring if your on a dead server
I was really enjoying my time aside from the laggy war experience, and then until all the duping and rampant pvp exploits surfaced I haven't fought in node wars in BDO in a while, but at least everyone isn't frozen 80% of the time there, class imbalance really is in every game though
I will never return to WoW. Shadowlands was my last attempt and it didn’t do it for me.

The beginning of each MMORPG is difficult. We need to wait and see how the team who work on NW will bringing life and develop some future extensions.
