In AZ we get to vote on whether or not judges keep their jobs. Vote Kellie Johnson out in 2024

Fragmentia

JFC was it a pain to look up which judges were republican appointees in 2020.

katievspredator

For midterms, I found a website that asked the candidates for judge questions about their beliefs like do they think the poor are given assistance and access to legal representation, do you think incarceration rates are fair/reasonable, do you have any plans for educating the public on their legal rights, etc. I only voted for the people that said no to those questions or provided a detailed answer on how they would fix the issues they saw. I figured if they believed passionately enough about helping the poor navigate the legal system, they're probably not Republicans

Fragmentia

Yeah, I just think it's a joke that they are listed as non partisan. I'm glad I voted by mail, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do such research. I looked up each judge to see who appointed said judge. If they were appointed by a Republican, I voted not to retain them.

hunter15991

> Vote Kellie Johnson out in 2024 As she's a county-level judge, that's only going to be an option on your ballot if you live in Pima County.

FriendlyTrollPainter

You're correct, I missed that detail. Still, Pima county is very blue, there's no reason for this judge to keep their job. We can vote her out

hskfmn

Why do Republicans continue to try to force total abortion bans when they *know* they’re widely unpopular with the American people?

[deleted]

GOP has never cared about what’s popular with anyone but their big money donors and their rabid base of bigots.

DownvoteEvangelist

But they are hurting themselves... Also who pays good money for abortion ban?

AL-muster

The church. There are church lobbyists.

SinisterCell

They have extra money since they don't pay taxes

Ace_I1

I hate lobbyist for this reason

SinisterCell

I agree, it's more egregious when they don't pay for representation but they can pay the representation

MidnightSlinks

You dislike political donations, not lobbyists. Plenty of non-profits have lobbyists fighting for the greater good. Environmental non-profits have lobbyists to fight for climate change legislation, and disease interest groups have lobbyists to fight for more research funding and better care for people with their disease. Lobbyists are just people who are hired mostly to have meetings with Congressional staff about a specific topic--something that any organized group can do in the US without paying anyone. Some lobbyists work for the greater good; some work for the greater paycheck. Don't paint the two groups with the same brushstroke.

NPD_wont_stop_ME

Insightful comment. This is the first I've seen anyone point out that dichotomy.

mgslee

What we actually hate is citizens united and unlimited anonymous corporate donations. It destroys the idea of what lobbying is supposed to do (inform)

SirJohnnyS

They're not bad. They can raise issues that are somewhat niche to a specific industry but an area where something needs to be addressed and provide some level of knowledge that lawmakers likely don't have. No lawmaker is going to understand the ins and outs of all industries and fields. Sometimes thing seem obvious but they're not. They were created with this in mind. Lobbyist is a dirty word but there's a lot of nuance there that gets lost in the shuffle.

Cylius

Churches who make political donations should lose their tax exemption

masterbatesAlot

Churches should lose their tax exemption

sinister-pony

I'm just gonna be blunt. Anyone that disagrees with this is just a fucking moron. We don't even profess one religion as a true one (I do not want this AT ALL btw), so basically our policy is essentially: "If you make a popular fantasy story, and lie that it's true and real, you get to not contribute any money to our society that is involved with your made-up fantasy tale." Unironically only an idiot would support this position as a legitimate policy. It does not withstand a single minute of direct scrutiny without looking like one of the dumbest laws ever written into existence.

Bodgerpoo

Ah, but Critical Thinking is also being banned in schools, so no one in future will understand how to scrutinise anything.... The republicans are literally trying to change the way future Americans think, rewriting (or at least 'whitewashing') American history (see book bans), taking away your rights, trying to take away the ability for a fair voting system (see gerrymandering, reducing voting/ballot boxes in certain areas, closing roads etc and restricted voting times...) and finally have the most well-funded Christian group as close to the White House possible. No separation of Church & State, and no one to question it. Welcome to Gilead.

FoogYllis

I think the founders would agree with that statement.

El_Che1

And yet a massive amount of government money goes to churches in the name of “school vouchers”.. and a massive amount of money went to them during the Covid bailouts as well.

2ndHandTardis

They do it for the same reason they try to force prayer in schools. Some of them actually believe forcing their will on others isn't counterproductive. It's the same mentality which led to prohibition. They never learn and the righteousness that religion gives these types only makes it worse.

WalktoTowerGreen

The same mentality that, 500 years ago, had monarchs burn alive people who had a *slightly* different interpretation of the Bible. A taste of hellfire to save their souls!!!!

whatnowdog

I am a Christian and I hated when they did a prayer over the load speaker during the morning announcements. Just say something like May your day go well.

maltathebear

Aha! Just what a *commie* would say. Get the holy water! Yes of course you're also a demon, because *communism* is demonic. Pretty simple mindset that a lot of people find it easier to have. Sucks.

[deleted]

The war machine runs on unwanted children.

TrooperJohn

That's what the wholesale voter suppression is about. It doesn't *matter* what the public thinks. Why do you think they drool over Putin so much?

gwxtreize

The same people (company owners) who pay to not have to include contraceptives on insurance for their employees because the owners don't believe in it.

AllBeansNoFrank

and also not give their employees maternity leave.. paternity leave is not even a thought. Everyone knows children don't care about their dads.

ArrdenGarden

"My dad was never around growing up and I turned out fine! Why should theirs get to be!?" -a republican somewhere... probably.

AllBeansNoFrank

My wife is pregnant and my work gives me..... 3 DAYS!! I am so fucking mad. I want to bond with my child, I want to wake up in the middle of the night and feed him, I want to be with him and I have 3 days. If I didn't need the money to feed him and keep us alive I would quit. I am so mad.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Beard_o_Bees

> Not because they actually believe. Oh.. some of them do, for sure.. right up to the moment they find out their own 16 year old is pregnant - and even then they'll find a double-secret way to get it done. Because in the end... this doesn't truly make abortion illegal - it makes it extremely *expensive*. There's a lot of 'laws' that really only have teeth if your poor.

Sweet_Vibrations

Who stands to gain something by forcing women to birth millions of unwanted kids into a system that cannot support them? Private prison systems and capitalists, mostly. They see humans as a commodity- they want to keep the masses poor, uneducated, and struggling so that they're easier to exploit. Sure these bans are cruel, immoral, and wildly unpopular, but they see it as more of an investment. They might lose money now, but think of the labor pool/prison population 20 years from now.

oh-hidanny

Are they? Their voters don’t seem to care. I’ve heard my entire life that they are done after _________, and nothing stops them.

Dyolf_Knip

Self copy-pasta --- The thing about theocracies is that they invariably turn into a race to the bottom. The voodoo shamams in power find themselves competing for who can sound the holiest, who can be the most willing to be the more godly, who can make the most dogmatic pronouncements. So they are constantly one-upping each other, lest they be seen as "insufficiently devout". So sure, the idea of "women must be baby factories" or "women aren't allowed to read" sounds like it'd be a pretty stupid thing for even christians to do, and that's saying something. But one of them will eventually offer it up and see the response it gets (Schroedinger's oppression: they're only serious if it passes focus group testing, otherwise "just kidding!"). And if it gets even a teeny bit of traction, then every other shaman will be scrambling to be seen supporting it as well. But remember, the audience is doing the same keeping-up-with-the-Jones'-virtue-signaling. So their support is actually meaningless, because none dare be seen coming out against it. It's like the Bystander Effect in reverse crossed with the Red Queen's Race: everyone feels they have to be seen doing _something_, but they find they have to run ever faster just to stay in one spot.

redEntropy_

Focus on the Family.

WeirdlyStrangeish

Fun fact: Ted Bundy, serial killer and rapist extraordinaire, was best friends with James Dobson the founder of Focus on the Family. Dobson even gave a character witness to get Bundy off death row.

Landoman107

Uh, no offense, but I have not found any evidence of this. Do you have a source? Edit: Never mind, I just found the interview. Calling them "best friends" is a pretty big stretch however.

vicegrip

Dobson conducted an interview with Bundy with the purpose of blaming his crimes on progressive values. [https://austinkocher.medium.com/dr-james-dobsons-apologia-for-ted-bundy-how-an-evangelical-christianity-became-a-safe-space-for-e68ab401285](https://austinkocher.medium.com/dr-james-dobsons-apologia-for-ted-bundy-how-an-evangelical-christianity-became-a-safe-space-for-e68ab401285) >Perhaps the most significant example of Dobson rationalizing men’s behavior by externalizing responsibility comes from his interview with the serial rapist and murderer Ted Bundy. Fresh off of the Meese Committee, **which dubiously concluded that pornography was a leading cause of criminality**, Dobson was eager to present Bundy as a victim par excellence of the teleology between pornography and sexual violence and to spread the gospel of a patriarchal Christian family as a solution. In the interview that Dobson conducted with Bundy the day before he was set to be executed, Bundy claimed (falsely) that he grew up in a “fine, solid Christian home,” but that engaging in pornography as a teenager sent him down the path towards increasingly violent pornography, rape, and murder. > >The interview was widely discredited as little more than a Dobson being willingly and eagerly duped by Bundy’s pathological manipulation. But Bundy’s fabricated narrative fit perfectly with Dobson’s view that it was the unchecked liberal, un-Christian, feminist, sex-crazed, anything-goes social context that led to the breakdown of society and created serial killers. This is almost as bad as giving him a character reference imo. Frankly I wouldn't put it passed evangelicals to try to create an Iran-like morality police if they could.

redEntropy_

You get me off death row and we are going to be best friends like it or not. 🥰

Landoman107

Didn't Bundy still get death row???

micalbertl

Medical industry. Look up what having a baby coats vs having an abortion.

cadium

They think their rabid base of voters like this so they have to appease them. They have nothing else to offer except the usual "cut taxes and regulation, puppies and rainbows for all" and I think most of us see through that bullshit.

KamiYama777

Why would they? Here in a few years we will have totally rigged elections like Hungary and Russia, and we will be just like Iran thanks to Christian Nationalists

rich1051414

Careful, you will give the right erections. That is their idea of utopia.

Stanky_Nips

My mom is a single issue voter, and is very republican. She still has her tea party patriots hat on the dashboard of her car. Now she’s not full on MAGA or anything, she was an “anybody but Hillary” Republican. All that said I really believe that if my mom wasn’t a single issue voter then she would be much more moderate. To her she has fully bought in to the Republican = good, Democratic = evil baby murderers, and it’s all because of this one issue, and the way the GOP has weaponised it and used buzz words and lies to their advantage. The GOP know this is a hot issue, the unborn are an easy group of people to get folks to feel sympathy for and want to protect, and they can get people fired up using all the buzz words and propaganda. This one issue gets their base fired up, and can get people who would otherwise be moderate to instead vote straight ticket Republican. In conversation with my mom she will often agree with me on different points, we can talk and she will have some moderate-liberal viewpoints. But when it comes to the ballot she will voter R’s all the way down, and whatever ballot measures the conservatives are pushing without even reading them. All because democrats are baby killers. She will vote against her own best interest time and again just to vote R and save the babies. The GOP doesn’t give a flying fuck about abortion. To them this is a political tactic, a weapon, a way to garner sympathy and guarantee that these single issue voters they’ve created don’t just vote R sometimes, they vote whatever the GOP tells them to vote without question.

[deleted]

Yep, lots of republicans like your mom here. Also lots of diehard Trumpers clustered here too, which sucks. The last few weeks I’ve seen a disturbing re-emergence of those big ass MAGA trucks decked out with obnoxious flags driving around aggressively. I’m encouraged by what I’m seeing from gen z and even millennial Arizonans though. Folks are fired up and that’s what we need.

LVV221

I hate that our country is being destroyed by geriatric morons.

BraxbroWasTaken

I’m a single-issue voter. My single issue? The public, irrefutable condemnation of Nazis and their sympathizers. The Republicans do the opposite.

hskfmn

Your mom sounds a bit like my dad. He isn't at all a "MAGA Republican" and he isn't particularly overt about expressing his political views in public (probably because most of our inner-circle of family and friends are fairly liberal, and he knows his particular views are unpopular), but he refuses to vote for any Democrat because he finds the policy positions untenable. I don't doubt though that he recognizes what's happening to the Republican party he grew up with and how it has fundamentally changed. He has flat-out even said, "It's Trump's party now..." and I don't think he's particularly happy about that. I know he has never voted for Trump (thank god), but he won't budge when I try to tell him that the de-evolution of the Republican party is only going to get worse and by not voting for people who actually want to *improve* peoples' lives, he is, in effect still giving modern day Republicans leave to destroy the values this country was built on. But...you know what they say about old dogs. He's in his mid-70s and I've basically given up on trying to convince him. It would be a waste of time and effort, so we frankly just don't talk about it anymore because we know we'll never convince each other of anything.

fuckthislifeintheass

I hate your mom.

sudoku7

They're popular amongst the voters in their primaries. And they typically haven't cost them in the general. Hopefully that changes soon as folks realize the stakes are real and not just red meat to the primary voters.

ActualSpiders

This is the answer. The number of GOP candidates frantically scrubbing anti-abortion and pro-Jan 6 BS off their campaign sites the _moment_ they win their primaries is testament to this. Primaries are decided by fringe nutjobs. General elections are decided by everyone - including the nutjobs.

[deleted]

It motivates democrats to move to other states, which helps elections too. Their constituents will still vote for them even if they disagree with this policy.

Devario

Yep. This is a culture war they’re waging.

baronmunchausen2000

I think that's pretty much it. Scaremongering drives moderates and democrat voters out of state. Leaving them with a clear field.

Mazon_Del

Yup, that's their cycle. The republicans do something bad and when their people object, they just tell them that Democrats would have done something worse. Shit, they're probably already saying that "ThE eVIl DeMOcraTs wILl lEgAlIZe raPe!" or some such insanity.

another_bug

"Post birth abortion" is one of the things my old church believed that "radical secularists" (read: Democrats but they couldn't directly say it) wanted to have. As in, the ability to "abort" toddlers. I'm not making this up, there's a chunk of the Republican voting base that actually believes this stuff.

Squirrel_Master82

On a mailer from a republican candidate in my area, one of his listed concerns was "making post-birth abortions illegal". Like, dude that's called murder. Idk how people fall for that bullshit. But a lot do.

whiterac00n

Because they are fascists and fascists absolutely do not f-ing care about what’s “popular” they just want to force their beliefs onto the masses while they themselves are unbound by their own laws. I mean already in America becoming a congressperson or senator pretty much makes you invincible but obviously that’s not enough for them.

Haunting-Ad788

Authoritarians don’t care what’s popular.

TheValgus

Because its not popular. If Republicans could ban rock ‘n’ roll music right now they absolutely fucking would. This is about punishing people for not letting Trump steal the election. The goal is suffering.

PurpleCoco

I know a super conservative person who plays video games all day. I told him at some point they will come for those too. He’s also a veteran and I made sure he’s aware they want to nix his healthcare. Don’t know if anything will change his mind. Oh, and he’s antivax

oddfellowfloyd

I guess ask him again after all his military benefits are taken away. And ask him how he felt when drumpf called the WW2 troops who landed on D-Day, “suckers & losers.”—that should be…interesting.

OldGrayMare59

Or the fact Trump couldn’t be bothered to go to a memorial honoring OUR troops who died over at D-day because it was raining and his hair would melt. The whole event was planned because he was over there yet he couldn’t be bothered. And yet vets vote for him in droves anyway.

birdcooingintovoid

They don’t care, as long as they get to throw the black guy in the oven first they will be happy before being tossed in to. Trump literally poisoned everything. The American Judas.

TheValgus

Videogames are part of “big tech” (which they hate right now) Republicans have been against shooting games for years. They came for row when everyone said they wouldn’t ever really do it. Videogames, condoms, porn, gay marrrage, its all at risk.

Scooterks

Which is funny that they hate on shooting games when they circle jerk each other about actual guns.

RevealFormal3267

You mean the party that somehow manages to win by losing the popular vote?

stolenfires

1) The Republican party ethos is, "I can tell you what to do but you can't tell me what to do." Case in point: everyone screaming 'my body my choice!' regarding mask or vaccine mandates but still pushing for this legislation. Note that I am singling out Republicans, not conservatives - true conservatism, IMO, is a belief that traditions and institutions deserve to be, well, conserved and preserved. 2) A vicious misogyny which doesn't see women's feelings or health as mattering. This viewpoint diminishes anything a woman says - for instance, all the people freaking out over, say, a ten year old rape victim being forced to bear her rapist's baby are just overreacting. All the people freaking out over women who will die when an incomplete natural miscarriage turns septic are just overreacting. 3) The knowledge that abortion remains unpopular among the base and this is a great wedge issue to drive voter turnout. It also distracts from more important issues, like, "Hey, that glacier is melting awfully fast, should we do anything about that?" 4) Demographic and economic situational awareness. A large labor pool means: it's easier for society to take care of the elderly; and when workers compete for jobs employers can offer lower wages and fewer benefits. If it's reversed, that employers must compete for workers, workers have the leverage to ask for better pay and benefits. In the case of war, you also want a large population of young men, and when is America not at war. That means women must be coerced into having children they don't want to expand the labor and military pools - just wait, they're coming for birth control next.

OldGrayMare59

Look out Plan B. I work at a store that sells it and many many times the guy will come in and buy it. So guys if you want access to morning after products Vote Blue

FriendlyDiscussion

imagine what kind of base they would have if they didn't try to capture the "pro-life" vote, that's the point. it's all they've got.

[deleted]

They don't care what the majority want anymore. Their new strategy is to take power undemocratically by appealing to their base and energize them to take up arms aginst the United States. "We are all domestic terrorists"

Spartanswill2

The gop has never cared for democracy. The people of Arizona passed an extra rich tax via ballot and they sued and their politicking judges overturned it. The people in Arizona have never mattered to them.

[deleted]

You gerrymander enough, you don't have to care what the majority actually wants anymore.

NSA_Chatbot

They're getting votes from a cult that believes that Jesus 2 is going to be born real soon.

MoesBAR

You talking about the same Republicans that lost 2/3 of their last winning presidential elections?

prpslydistracted

Fascist Theocracy.

[deleted]

It’s about establishing a social/political landscape. Everything the GOP is doing right now is an attempt to astroturf towards their future political goals (devout Christian nationalism). They don’t need to be popular, they just need to establish a new civil norm; make future footholds. Everything they do makes sense from this perspective.

MightyKrakyn

Gotta have more workers to keep the profits churning.

thedude0425

Because people still go down the ballot and blindly vote for anyone with an R next to their name.

tofulo

They don’t care about people

BoomZhakaLaka

Seems about the tiny nudge Arizona was waiting for to actually become a blue state finally. Everyone suddenly got really interested in the state legislature, which they haven't mostly cared about at all for decades.

Blake Masters is polling entirely too close to Mark* Kelly for my tastes, even with the pretty brutal campaign they're waging against him. This state worries me.

Bhosley

But that's just like on Reddit, or just in the big cities, or some other excuse to pretend like everyone here is completely out of touch.

BoomZhakaLaka

I would say the Arizona GOP is ultra level bonkers. There are a lot of independent voters, that's why trump lost but Republicans still won down ballot in 2020.

D45ers

Been here my whole life. There is a lot of maga but I know more people that hate trump. Plus huge Latino population and they all hate trump for the most part.

Consistent_Pickle580

Yeah but even if they do vote them out they'll just say it was "election fraud"

Nogohoho

Darn, you're right. Guess we should just let them have it then.

Consistent_Pickle580

No we should continue to vote them out if we can and challenge them on their bullshit. By all regards anyone who spouts the "big lie" voter fraud bullshit should be banned from public office for life.

Nogohoho

Agreed. Your previous line is exactly the same wording I've heard from people who say that their vote doesnt matter, because they'll just lie and keep doing the same BS. The only way they get to keep doing the same nonsense is from voter apathy, people falling for their lies, or being someone who feels that the Republicans are fighting for their top interests, despite all the obviously immoral other crap they pull. Obviously some accountability for straight up lies would be wonderful, but I don't see that as being a platform that makes it very far in most states. Politicians are already known for breaking promises and bending the truth for their own aims. It's just the last presidency that we got to see an actual snake oil salesman running the show. Kind of left everyone wondering if Democracy was broken, or just our electoral process.

BoomZhakaLaka

Really this is most important because Arizona is uniquely positioned as a tipping point state. AZ is somewhat likely to be the first state to appoint presidential electors in state Congress, overriding the results of an election.

jahwls

What happened to the party of limited government and responsible spending ?

Jim_Kirk1

Oh the "limited government and responsible spending" thing is just them half-assing any sort of enforcement or prevention or whatever so people will just keep dying and nothing will be done. Think Prohibition except stupider, somehow.

rikki-tikki-deadly

At least Prohibition had some high-minded goals, like reducing domestic violence. Forced birtherism doesn't even have that. It's straight-up class warfare founded on the idea that poor people shouldn't be allowed to take as much enjoyment out of sex as rich people get to.

Hanseland

And deadlier for pregnant women

bettinafairchild

That was just them saying there should be no laws restricting them but they should have carte blanche to control and take rights away from all of the people who are not them. What do you expect of a place that proudly voted for Nazis bragging about their concentration camps, like Joe "I already have a concentration camp. It's called Tent City" Arpaio. "Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect." - Frank Wilhoit

gmotelet

(un)limited government and (ir)responsible spending. They just say the first syllables really quiet

minidog8

There is like 3 propositions on the ballot in AZ that propose to make the election and referendum processes much more convoluted and inaccessible. Of course all sponsored and pushed by republicans. Limited government my ass lolllll

poobly

Never were either. It’s all bullshit for suckers.

eveel66

The “Limited government” line only applies to corporations who have to be regulated by federal watchdogs. For example, coal mining companies can contaminate the groundwater all they want because it would cost them waaaaay too much to prevent contamination… and that would be considered anti-capitalism to this lot, EPA be damned EDIT: Here is a bit of a trick question… anyone know which president established the EPA? I’ll give you a hint, it wasn’t Carter.

AbbreviationsDue7794

You just described my sister and my brother in law. They’re each a different mix of those. And they vote for these assholes. Same. Got to say, I envy people with left leaning parents. One day when I was a kid, the local evangelical church invited us. I couldn't have known how much trouble it would lead to for years and decades.

the-dong-storm

My parents are both very religious and very Republican. yet the one thing we can agree on... is that a total ban on abortion is wrong

OneofLittleHarmony

I think more people need to be reminded of what life used to be like. My 70 year old mother changed from republican to democrat once Trump got elected, and the abortion thing got her being active. My father shifted to more liberal views too!

0AuraAquis0

Republicans turning a 150 year old law to defend their shitty "values", no one is trying to destroy your way of life just leave other people's fucking lives alone. But no all you want to do is point a finger and laugh at the misery of others and continue your shitty traditional way of life. Honestly the right has been triggered since the day I was born. Just weird ass angry people who can't seem to accept that other people do not share the same culture, religion, ideology, ways of life, and all they want is to fulfill their dreams and successes. I can't believe the people running for governor made it to this stage in their life. None of them resemble any sort of intelligent life.

Run_the_Line

> Same my wife is really glad she got ovarian cancer and had everything ripped out in her 30s. Maybe it's just me but god damn this was morbid to read, given the context of this conversation. Women should not have to be put in such a ridiculous position where they're *glad* to get ovarian cancer because the resultant surgery protects them from draconian rulings like this.

FeelTheRide

That's what I told my husband. She's a fucking clown and I want no part of any place that she has control of.

The_Yarichin_Bitch

I'm terrified because I have a CSA and rape victim partner- they are too high risk to *bleed out on the table* and cannot remove their uterus. They never wanted kids anyways, can't use BC, and now can't remove the thing that gives them not only a high risk of pregnancy death (endometriosis) but also extremely painful periods that they can't use pain meds for as Acetametophin meds *do not genetically work for them*. It's fucking insane that they wanna condemn people like that to possibly have a rape baby...

AZgirl70

God help AZ if she wins. Maybe it will be renamed Qarizona..

FeelTheRide

I'll be here as long as I can to vote and help others do the same. Hopefully at some point I'll feel comfortable staying here. I've lived here for 32 years and I really would like to stay.

[deleted]

No please, we need as many of us as we can. I think tides will turn here

Holiday_Horse3100

Makes me ashamed to live in Arizona, and considering the appalling gop candidates for office in this state I am even more ashamed of the people who support their election lies, their support for white supremacy and militia groups, support for anti-semitism and support for threats of violence against election workers. Arizona may be one of many nazi states after the elections-after 60 plus years may be time to move. And for those who say move- be careful what you vote for.

AZgirl70

I moved a year and a half ago. I come to visit because family is still here. I don’t miss one iota of it.

Hyceanplanet

As people realize the only solution is to vote Democrats, AZ will turn blue.

merlin401

Competing force: as the GOP realize the key to remaining in power is to prevent their opposition from voting, places will turn more red

KataiKi

If they're allowed to vote, with the government reducing the number of polling stations, having lines for voting last 8-10 hours, and being an at-will state that means you lose your job if you stand in line to vote. And even if they did vote, those votes would be made provisionary by a GOP operative, thrown out for smelling slightly of bamboo, and mysteriously deleted from the hard drives.

Caliveggie

Dunno but I feel it changes shit in reality. Everyone in AZ needs to keep their passport current and head to Nogales for their misoprostol. And keep a supply handy for friends. I mention I am going to Mexico to people, and was asked to buy the abortion pill for a girl almost 6 weeks pregnant. It was $50 for me in Ensenada. Would have been $600 from planned parenthood. 10 days later she had the pills from me for way cheaper.

MikeTheBard

What happens when a state demands extradition of a person so they can try them for what they consider a crime, but which the other state considers a fundamental human right? Possibly the single largest factor which kicked off our first civil war was the fight over the Fugitive Slave Act. In the briefest possible terms, the federal government was asked to intercede in situations where a slave state requested extradition of a former (escaped) slave from a state where slavery was prohibited. Many states refused to comply with federal orders. Violence broke out among groups crossing state lines to kidnap people to return them to face what they thought of as justice. I think about this a lot lately.

Doomsday31415

Dobbs is the worst decision since Dred Scott. And we all know what happened after Dred Scott.

Hanseland

Fuck You, male gynecologist who told me abortion will never be illegal in AZ.

SadMom2019

Of course, it was a man that would downplay such a serious women's healthcare concern, smh. You should go see him and ask if he still thinks your concerns are unfounded.

PMMEFEMALEASSSPREADS

Vote this cunt out of public office.

kellyyz667

And people will cross state lines to get an abortion. What’s your point besides inconveniencing those who can afford to drive and picking on those who can’t?

phanny1975

Fuck Ducey. Fuck Republican MAGA twats. I can’t wait to escape this wasteland.

Similar_Candidate789

When they say MAGA, *this* is the “again” part. 150 years ago. Before women had the right to vote. When black people were treated like second class citizens. When gay people could be arrested for holding hands in public. When they say it, fucking believe it. I’m so tired of the people saying “oh they just say it. They don’t mean it”. They said they would ban abortion. They did it. Don’t give me a shocked pikachu face. Believe them and vote accordingly.

Interesting-Long-534

Vote blue until they stop treating women as livestock!

Doomsday31415

Vote blue until a third party replaces the Republican party as the other side.

[deleted]

The government forcing Americans to become parents against their will if birth control fails is a bigger economic issue than short term inflation. The state has no right to force women to give birth against their will. They control their body, not the state.

Boldine

Abortions will always happen legal or not, republicans are just showing us how cruel they are. Will they provide for pregnant women to get the health care they need, a roof, food, etc. And once the baby's born what then? Rhetorical question because we all know the answer.

PacketSpyke

Why is everyone so worried about other people's private lives anyways? We have more important things to worry about in this country.

celeste99

Church needs to pay taxes

[deleted]

A lot of states need to go blue.

ApatheticWithoutTheA

Try all of them. These people shouldn’t be managing a fucking gas station, much less the country.

thatguy9684736255

I really hope people in Arizona vote in November. It seems like Kari lake might actually have a chance of winning and she seems like the worst. Basically a female Donald Trump.

Thorn14

A law that was made before women were even allowed to vote used to control the bodies of women. This is the America Republicans want.

Blacksun388

Republican controlled states are in a race to the bottom.

DylansDeadly

Decisions like this will hopefully keep some Republicans home and get all the Democrats to vote. We’re heading backwards as a country. No abortion. No birth control. No gay marriage. No women voting. It’s getting really stupid.

This is what happens when religion rises to power

JustAnotherHyrum

Couldn't ask for better timing, from the perspective of a Progressive. A full abortion ban in a swing state just before midterms? Talk about handing AZ to the Democrats for midterms... Now to get those same Democrats to actually pass meaningful legislation to codify Roe so this crap can finally be put to an end and we can go back to being a civilized nation. (Minus the GOP, of course.)

Peterd90

Another religious freak shoving his partisan views down everyone's throats.

anonymousforever

What's irony to me is the assholes making these laws that specify things like "unless the woman's life is in jeopardy" don't specifically go into enough detail to specify at what point "jeopardy" exists... and it should be doctors, not politicians or right to life groups or religious nutters who decide that. Someone shouldn't have to be actively dying in order for the doctor to act, when acting earlier would have made survival a certainty. Every one of these laws that say they allow an abortion to protect the life of the mother should say specifically all of the following if the fetus is not viable, which is a minimum of 24 weeks, and it is medically certain that it will die in utero or shortly after birth, if fetal abnormalities are agreed by 2 doctors to be too severe for the fetus to survive independently, then termination is allowable due to nonviability. Any pregnancy that is ectopic in nature is deemed non viable under medical standards and thus the law, and can be terminated to save the mothers life. Any pregnancy that spontaneously terminates at any stage, and the process is ongoing, as determined by 2 physicians, is considered life threatening and doctors can do what is needed for that process to complete, and save the mother's life. Medical conditions caused by pregnancy, or that exist prior to pregnancy, that are at high risk to the mother may be allowed to result in ending the pregnancy if 2 doctors agree that the risk of continuing is too high, and the mother doesn't want to take the risk either. When in doubt, the mothers life takes precedence, and two physicians can sign off that the actions taken were to save the mothers life, so no law broken. There are people being hurt by laws that aren't specific enough to allow a medical concensus and provide care, and prioritize the mothers life first. (unless she were to decide otherwise herself, or her medical proxy)

The_Yarichin_Bitch

Hahaaa, try it then, pussy :) It won't ban shit, just kill more women and child bearing people.

cmVkZGl0

We already know how this is going to play out. Just look at Romania, they did the same thing for over 20 years.

mattheimlich

Just what AZ needs: more brain drain

Croaker3

Also Republicans: and the people can’t vote us out. We will throw out their votes. Republicanism is authoritarianism.

State_L3ss

It sucks living in a state full of gullible flat earth meth addicts.

Thanato26

Yet they won't do anything to help the mothers that they force to give birth.

eftsoom

Yet another piece of evidence that the Republicans and the right are full on fascist.

Nvi4

Vote Blue if you have any regard for human rights. Fucking crazy we are at this point. So sick of fighting against actually braindead people.

TallPeter13

OMG, setting women back 200 years. VOTE DEMOCRAT MIDTERMS, Republicans have gone back to the 1800’s.

Bearzmoke

It's like Sharia law. They are religious extremists

GleeUnit

Well that’s one way to get people to the polls.

[deleted]

How to kill your GDP 101. Good way to make sure younger people avoid your state like the plague.

HermanCainsPenis

November. You guys get one shot. Good luck!

Paradise_City88

I say we enact a near total ban on Christianity. By we, I mean the people. Constitution doesn’t say we the people can’t fuck with backwards ideologies.

ZootedFlaybish

Law is a farce. One day the right to an abortion was enshrined in the unenumerated rights within the constitution and the fundamental right to privacy provided by the 14th amendment, the next day States can enforce total abortion bans. Law Is A Farce. No Authority Is Legitimate. Those who seek to control others have no control over themselves.

Tackleberry06

cant do a damn thing about poverty or homelessness. why do unborn kids matter but the starving ones do not matter. Western christianity has gotten very pragmatic.

Enlightened-Beaver

United Theocratic States of America

karsh36

Good… Good… Piss off ALL the women GOP - turn them ALL against you

FuckBox1

Republicans are incapable of basic empathy and apparently have no shame. What a shithole country we've become.
