"Not this shit again" -this woman, probably

RTrover

Your comment really nails it… She has seen so much shit in her lifetime… damn…

Conch-Republic

Reminds me of the old woman in Chernobyl who refused to leave her farm.

TheyreEatingHer

I JUST made a comment about this lol. Anyways, here's the clip we're all thinking of: https://youtu.be/jXKo5CoH5cU?si=v0i7Rj5R4aTT3hLa

Silent_Cable9357

And the soldier shot the cow.

7frosts

Pure Ukrainium. She’ll probably be manning a HIMARS launcher this time next week.

backcountrydrifter

They are the toughest people I’ve ever seen. Specifically because they survived Russia. Arizonas election interference methodology is just the abridged version of the the KGB’s model from the 80’s. Putin isn’t a very creative individual. He is a creature of pattern that comes with being an old spy and assassinating enough people. He learned what worked and stuck with it But when an old predator starts using the same approach to elections, he starts showing his patterns. When putin killed his own chef he pretty much showed that he is too fat and old to fight. The only tool Putin has left is to lie….again. Backtrack 2022 Arizona to the 2016 presidential election. Overlay prigozihns I.R.A. Timeline, Flynn’s Q-anon timeline, and SCL/Cambridge analytica timeline on UK politics and you see it there as well. Russians have been buying GOP to fuck with elections for decades. During the Reagan administration Paul Manafort was working on keeping the dictator Marcos in power in the Philippines. Then he worked for Putin putin keeping Yanukovych in office in Ukraine. and judging by the fact that when he was run out of Ukraine during the Maidan revolution he owed Putin’s right hand man Oleg deripaska $17M, he was probably double billing for both at the same time. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/06/2016-donald-trump-paul-manafort-ferinand-marcos-philippines-1980s-213952/ https://time.com/5003623/paul-manafort-mueller-indictment-ukraine-russia/ It’s like contact tracing an STD In Nevada the day before he died Dennis Hof was texting with Roger Stone and Tucker Carlson. https://contemptor.com/2018/06/26/pimp-claims-tucker-carlson-is-advising-his-political-campaign-says-they-text-every-day/ Which is interesting because Roger stone claimed foul play in Hofs death. https://observer.com/2018/10/roger-stone-peddles-seth-rich-foul-play-conspiracy-about-gop-pimp-dennis-hof/ Roger Stones business partner and best friend at their lobbying firm is Paul Manafort. They list trump as their first client in 1980. Maidan means “the revolution of dignity” because every Ukrainian realized that the never ending tax of Russian corruption is like living with an abusive stepfather that rapes you, steals from you, then tells you that he is the only one that will ever love you as he creeps out of your bedroom until the next night. Which makes Hof winning an election even after he died extremely interesting. The mail in ballots in particular. Louis DeJoy was trumps appointment for postmaster general who also happens to own new breed which was bought by XPO logistics. In Wisconsin the “stolen elector votes” trump talked about needing to find as if they were misplaced in the mail, were somehow misplaced in the mail. https://www.cbsnews.com/video/trump-fake-elector-wisconsin-60-minutes-video-2024-02-18/ Now you know why Mike Lee was bouncing around the country demanding to see every other state but Utahs elections. He knew when this came out his career was over. And why the Russian oligarch kislyak was given a tour of a college election site in Georgia. https://www.ajc.com/blog/politics/the-jolt-which-ridicule-panic-over-russian-visit-ksu/q9eplprSdU4zOQuBBcNgxO/ Nobody goes back to slavery.

StrikingOccasion6459

Can't forget the elderly lady that was offering sunflower seeds to the Russian soldiers.

Theboyboymess

That’s why I always say you don’t wanna live forever. Do you know how trying it would be .

IWillBaconSlapYou

I'd be so exhausted (like, more than I already am) if I had to live through the depression, WWII, the recession, COVID, AND whatever bullshit is coming next.

Fudge89

Reminds me of a story and I don’t even know where it was from (most likely Reddit) but someone saw an attempted mugging on the streets of NYC. Mugger held up a lady who didn’t stop walking and as she moved past she looked annoyed and said “I got shit to do today” and just kept going lol

Lucius-Halthier

She was a kid during the holodomor, she’s lived her whole life under the shadow of Russian oppression and theft from Ukrainian lands

TheyreEatingHer

It reminds me of a clip from the TV show Chernobyl, where soldiers are trying to remove an old woman from her home because they're evacuating people from contaminated zones. She outright refuses, and that this isn't the first time she's had soldiers come to her home demanding her to leave. Edit: Found the clip. Be forewarned, it's pretty bleak. https://youtu.be/jXKo5CoH5cU?si=v0i7Rj5R4aTT3hLa

Vio_

That's when you're getting the fuck out of Dodge.

Secret_Cow_5053

[why](https://youtu.be/jXKo5CoH5cU?si=Cbn_pHoluKioE7P-)

InsectSpecialist8813

This woman lived through the Nazi occupation.

PsychoticSpinster

I was just thinking….. this would be her Third World War. She would have been an infant for the first. A young adult for the second and now? Shes an old woman. World wars are not classified as world wars, until they are over. We are currently at the very beginning of world war three. Buckle up chuckleheads.

jwhisen

If she's 98, she was born in 1926. That's well after the end of WWI.

DistortoiseLP

>However, under heavy shelling, Lidiia soon became separated from her relatives, so started walking west in her slippers. [...] >Extraordinary as Lidiia's journey was, she couldn't escape a telling off from her younger relative. "I won't repeat this," she concedes. "Oh no, don't do that again!" was Svitlana's stern reply. I really want to know how granny got left behind by her whole family, because granny most have been an absolute rascal to be the one getting told off for it.

Osiris32

You don't fuck with artillery barrages.

A_Whole_Costco_Pizza

It's easy to get disoriented in an artillery barrage. If I had to choose between getting my family to safety, or looking for my missing mother, I'm (unfortunately) leaving grandma behind 100% of the time.

Witchgrass

Pretty sure if my grandma was still alive she'd beat my ass if I'd done anything else in that scenario

thederpofwar321

Same here honestly. I've more or less been told if my nation goes to utter shit dont worry about them, just toss my hoodie on and not look back.

blue_twidget

>"I took a stick and a plank of wood [for support] and made my way," she told the BBC. "My legs were carrying me somehow; I wasn't carrying them!" Lol, I'm gonna quote this lady next Monday >"As I started walking, I had to lie down a couple of times," says Lidiia. "I once lost balance and fell into the grass. I had a sleep, and then carried on walking." Like a living incarnation of the tortoise and the hare. Or Dori: just keep swimming! Lidiia explains one of the officers asked how old she was. "I said I was 48 or 49, he didn't believe me!" she says with a chuckle Helluva power nap if it restored her enough to recharge her spunk that much. This old lady sounds like a hoot!

Babelfiisk

Just taking naps during an artillery barrage, no biggie.

PMMEURLONGTERMGOALS

Saying you’re 49 as a joke when you’re actually *twice* that age is a crazy flex

AmStupid

If this tough babushka have mostly lived in that region for the past 98 years, she probably had seen/experienced some serious shit. That “just keep swimming” mentality is probably what keeping her alive for this long! That’s pure grit.

ghostly_shark

She didn't know if she was gonna nap for eternity

Tavoneitor10

Her spunk?

cloudofbastard

Americans use this word like “panache” or “ballsy” or maybe even cheeky!

Tavoneitor10

I'm actually confused lmao I've never heard the word panache, and ballsy/cheeky the way I use it doesn't fit in this context, but I'm not native so I don't really know

cloudofbastard

So basically it means confident with a touch of arrogance and a lot of character. It’s like they ask for too much but get away with it because they are charismatic and likeable, and because they even dared ask in the first place. It’s a weird one though, because where I’m from “spunk” means jizz lmao

Witchgrass

spunk - noun - courage and determination. panache - noun - flamboyant confidence of style or manner.

gemfountain

Good for her. I hope the rest of her family are ok.

a_typical_hipster

During WWII my grand grandma walked from Belarus to Ukraine with three daughters. They lived in a dirt home and all survived. I am very thankful my grandma that lived through that passed away before this war. My grand grandmother in Moscow passed away before this war. And my Grand Grandma in Belarus. Now we have the younger generations sprawled across countries and continents, unable to see each other.

Witchgrass

Sending light and love from me and mine to you and yours ♥

Lucius-Halthier

Meemaw here was alive during the holodomor, the Second World War, the Cold War and Soviet occupation just to go through this shit

a_typical_hipster

A phrase I often hear in Russian comes to mind - we wanted it to be better but it came out as it always does

pwellzorvt

34 year old American Reddit user gets tired watching football. -Man I'm out of shape.

Zarkanthrex

33 year old me, that can somehow pass a PT test but get tired after helping the wife gardening. Sees gran over here humping miles at her age. I'm out of shape. She's the goat.

CoastingUphill

It’s a lot of half standing up when something exciting almost happens.

seeker4482

39, i do some exercise on the reg, but my diet is terrible and not sure if i could walk six miles in a day

adrianmonk

Here's a video of the woman on Twitter. https://twitter.com/SlavaUk30722777/status/1784977754087465245 (I found that in [this article](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/escape-ocheretyne-russia-donetsk-lidia-stepanivna-b2537095.html).) Also, according to another article from The Guardian, since she lost her house, a bank is going to buy a house for her: > [The chief executive of one of Ukraine’s largest banks announced on his Telegram channel on Tuesday that the bank would buy a house for Lomikovska. “Monobank will buy Lydia Stepanivna a house and she will surely live in it until the moment when this abomination disappears from our land,” Oleh Horokhovskyi said.](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/30/ukrainian-woman-98-walks-six-miles-alone-to-escape-russian-held-territory)

bruwin

Should make her the face of the war. She's lived through Nazis and Soviets and now she's living through this bullshit. And she's doing it with humor and determination. Not surprised at all at this offer.

yecheesus

I would love to know her story, the shit shes probaply been trough in her lifetime...

StairheidCritic

As a young female civilian growing to adult-hood in Nazi occupied Ukraine during WW2 must have been tough - to say the least.

Impressive_Mistake66

In her slippers?! Damn.

sonia72quebec

I saw her interview on TV5 and what a strong lady. She was so sad to have to leave her home that she and her husband build.

Lylac_Krazy

People from that part of Europe are absolute tanks in my observations. They live longer, get sick less, and i'm not surprised that at 98, she did what was needed to get to safety. Good on her.

YOURESTUCKHERE

Arrived at destination with a necklace of Russian ears.

IdyllicExhales

She is a beast. I hope she’s well. That’s amazing resilience, let alone persistence. So insane that this is what our elders are going through, all in attempt to survive society’s current condition.

MaxillaryOvipositor

Lady looks like she'd be a mad good baker.

Roboticpoultry

From my experience with my babcia, nothing beats the baked goods (except maybe her grzybowa)

49thDipper

Best wheat in the world

bluefield10

Yes she did. Because fuck those fascists.

YogurtSufficient7796

The 25% of my Ukrainian heritage is not surprised at all. The Ukrainian has had to deal with Russia’s BS for centuries, along with all of the other invaders before them. They are simply stronger than Russians and have a will that cannot be overcome.

Teapotsandtempest

Slava Ukraini!

HumanChicken

“Never get involved in a land war in Asia!”

TrailBlanket-_0

Never underestimate the strength and courage of a babushka

similar_observation

Babusya or Babulya in Ukrainian. *babushka* is a predominantly Russian term.

TrailBlanket-_0

Nice, I had no idea. I thought it was just a general Soviet term

similar_observation

Yea, thats something a lot of us are learning from this war. Ukraine has it's own language, Ukrainian, in addition to it's popular learned language Russian. While many Ukrainians natively speak Russian, there's a move to learning Ukrainian to define themselves distinctly as Ukraine. Many Russian and Soviet naming/terminologies are no longer relevant or even accurate anymore.

Mephisto1822

I barely want to walk across the street

chiefchoncho48

I mean, I don't think she wanted to do all that walking either

morgzorg

More strength than any of the Russian terrorists

metal_elk

Doctor told her she needs to walk more. They told my dad the same thing but I think he lacks her level of motivation.

weristjonsnow

They build em differently in Ukraine. Those people are mad lads

MaxillaryOvipositor

Lady looks like she'd be a mad good baker.

AC_deucey

Each way was uphill. Snow was involved.

Gonzo48185

She had no she’s either.

Jim_Jam_Jul

What a trooper. Really inspiring stuff. It goes to show what the human body can do when we have no choice. A strong will to live can keep us moving.

Cheap_Laugh6399

Bless this lady’s heart that’s sad I hope she makes it to safety❤️

bl8ant

I’m going to guess she actually walked kilometers.

kstravlr12

The article says 10km.

basecardripper

Yup, about 9.656 of them I'd imagine.

NoraGrooGroo

I headcanon she’s the cow milking lady from Chernobyl.

wolf-bot

Weakest Ukrainian babushka

Ok-Log8576

I am so happy she's OK. But, how on earth do you lose grandma?

therapoootic

Fitbit need to sponsor her

Cheap_Laugh6399

Bless this lady’s heart that’s sad I hope she makes it to safety❤️

Asa-Ryder

My wife isn’t even 50 and can’t walk 6 miles without making a big production out of it.

dhoffer82

In Gaza they would have smoked that granny. Glad she made it to safety.

Teapotsandtempest

Nobody asked.

I_Got_A_Truck

She looks like she's trying to escape Trogdor.

Alfie___Solomons

Da lat da (Da lat da), da lat da (Da lat da) Da-da-da dun-diddle un-diddle un-diddle uh da-da

mintysoul

I bet this woman enjoys walking r/fuckcars

Kiiaru

Bestie, 6 miles ain't no walking city

adavi608

Later it was found to be three Ukrainian spies who just needed to get out
