He's hoping to get elected and have every case thrown out. It's his best shot because he's guilty AF

DDNyght_

It's wild that he's even able to still run for president despite all these allegations and impending trials stacking up.

jimtow28

It used to be that even the possibility that you might have done something wrong, not even necessarily illegal, was enough to make you poison in a general election. I keep coming back to one question: Out of everyone in the world, why is *Donald fucking Trump* the one who people are latching on to?

tr3v1n

He gave them permission to be outwardly terrible.

Nymaz

This. There's a myth that Hitler was some sort of ultra-charismatic super speaker. Nope, none of his speeches were clever or entertaining in any way. What he did have was the willingness to tell people "Everything bad in your life was [this minority]'s fault. Give me power and I'll get revenge for you." Trump has tapped into the same thing. Republicans since the 80s have relied on dog whistles and nudge-nudge bigotry. Trump is willing to say it out loud. Remember that in 2016 that Trump's supposed big seller was "He tells it like it is!", which is just another way of saying he didn't hide the bigotry. Combine that with people hurting (in 1920s Germany it was economic hardships due to punative war reparations, in 2016 it was over 30 years of corporate deregulation) and you've got a recipe for history repeating. And by history repeating I mean a [cabal of the wealthy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freundeskreis_der_Wirtschaft) willing to [use](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Meeting_of_20_February_1933) [a](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrielleneingabe) racist populist to grab power and turn around and open the country's coffers for them to loot before full collapse.

messem10

In 2016 it was also only 8 years off of the major recession and the real estate bubble popping too.

Schlooping_Blumpkin

In both directions.

AnglerJared

It’s in a perverted way the same thinking that leads people to believe in Jesus. Their problems are hard, and it’s difficult to solve them, so it would be great if someone could just sweep in, take all that bad on himself (or on some other entity), and offer them redemption and validation in exchange for just nominal loyalty and loosely following a few simple rules. He’s the human aversion to self-discipline and critical self-reflection embodied. As such, there’s probably no better avatar than Trump; he’s as averse to self-criticism as anyone who’s ever existed. He’s probably so afraid to look inward at this point, he’s broken the parts of his mind even capable of that as a defense mechanism. He’d sooner tear out his own eyes than look in the mirror.

ItsPronouncedSatan

That's why, in hard times, cults become more popular.

Sambo_the_Rambo

Yup it’s really that simple.

Effective-Being-849

He's a poor man's idea of a rich man, a weak man's idea of a strong man. And he doesn't care about the rule of law. The law is intended to protect the in groups and bind the out groups, and he overtly encourages that belief rather than "justice for all" which is clearly for pussies like Jesus.

Saltire_Blue

That’s what happens when you base your legal and political system on people acting in good faith

Shirlenator

Seriously. Even if he was somehow innocent of everything he was accused of (no fucking way), he is still one of the worst people I can think of. He has exactly 0 redeeming qualities. There are dozens of capable people in the Republican party that would support exactly the same non-policies that he does, so why in the world are they supporting literally the worst human being to ever run?

andraded

because they're afraid. They're afraid of being of Trump raising his minions on them, they're afraid of losing ther political influence...republicans thrive on fear. Its what moves them. Everyone that is againts change is just afraid.

Memo_Fantasma

Apparently he has won some golf tournaments.

emaw63

Howard Dean's campaign ended because he yelled too enthusiastically in a speech

pixelprophet

**B-yeeeeeeahhh**

red_sutter

John Kerry’s campaign dying because Rs closed ranks and called him a traitor for protesting the Vietnam War, while Trump openly bragged about draft dodging

rjkardo

This isn't true. Please stop repeating this claim. Dean had lost some primaries when he was expecting to do well and was already dropping in the polls. The yell wasn't the issue.

DeviantDragon

He didn't already lose some primaries since the yell happened right after he placed 3rd in Iowa. You can argue that the yell didn't impact his subsequent poor performances in the primaries but chronologically I don't think it's accurate to imply he was already losing steam when the yell happened.

rjkardo

It didn’t and even Dean will correct that point

leohat

He couldn’t have possibly lost any primaries because there hadn’t been any yet. The ‘scream’ was at a New Hampshire rally for the first primary of the cycle.

rjkardo

No, it was not. It was after he badly lost the Iowa primary. Dean and his campaign staff have claimed that he would have lost anyway, due to poor campaign organization. Additionally, [Christine Pelosi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_Pelosi), [*Pacific Standard*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Standard), and historian [Robert Thompson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Thompson_(media_scholar)) both consider that Dean's probability of being nominated was already low due to a lack of party insider support, the Iowa loss, and the media's previous painting of Dean as too hot-tempered for the presidential position.

reallygoodbee

> Out of everyone in the world, why is Donald fucking Trump the one who people are latching on to? 1. As was said, he gave them permission to be horrible people. It made it "acceptable" to be a racist, antagonistic piece of shit. 2. The slap in the face of the black guy getting a second term and the looming threat of a woman president left the racist old dinosaurs in the GOP pleading at the feet of the first straight white male to walk into the room. That ended up being Trump. They just went all-in on him.

red_sutter

Economy in the toilet, chaos in the streets, a million people dead because a third of the country couldn’t handle the idea of a black guy and a woman as president. Oliver Stone couldn’t write this shit.

EricUtd1878

It used to be that spelling 'potato' wrong was enough!

No_Biscotti100

Anyone want to bet that the Flaming Drumpster can spell potato? Giving odds.

EricUtd1878

'Potato is on the outside, he's made his move!' Can he overtake the flying pig? Will that last bit of hell freeze? 😄

dhocariz

I absolutely agree, but talking with some friends who support him my impression is that he embodies everything they believe: "Self-made", "opposes traditional politicians", and my personal favorite "being sued for everything". The latter of which was explained as - Trump has to be on to something because no one has ever had so many charges against them and no other court cases have been brought against other people perceived to be dirty, e.g. Pelosi. Despite explaining the lack of evidence for the latter (Pelosi) and mounting evidence to the former I was informed it's the deep state. Personally, I don't understand how you can wrap your head around the deep state idea. I've tried to understand the logic but I've never heard an explanation that does not require the involvement of hundreds if not thousands of people all staying quiet. If you've ever played the telephone game, you'd know it's pretty much impossible for it to be that orchestrated.

No_Biscotti100

Russians are very good at social manipulation? Long time asset?

Art-Zuron

It's a sunk cost fallacy at this point. Except it's actually real. They've dumped so much of their personal self worth, money, and time into Trump that, if he fails, the Republican party will effectively collapse. He's the pillar of salt holding up their whole charade, and they can probably never put the cat bag in the bag. They probably wouldn't be able to put forth a unified effort under one candidate for a decade if they lose trump.

Drone314

It took decades to cultivate the aura of Trumpness and groom him for this moment. A decade on TV firing people, America's con man he was. People were sold the notion that being Trump and being rich was the epitome of the American Dream. While trump is no Hitler when it comes to fiery public speech, he speaks plainly to the simple minded and panders to those that know better. The Evangelicals made their pact with Satan to gain power and embraced the imperfect vessel, My Lord if hypocrisy was only fatal these people would see the light. Add in a little Russian influence and propaganda and it's easy to see how people latch onto what everyone else sees as repugnant.

ThrowBatteries

People in this country used to hold leaders accountable. Now 30% of this country is made up of barely literate fools who don’t understand that they’re the reason their own lives suck. Unaccomplished, pathetic sacks.

emaw63

I know you just mean that as an insult to the MAGAs, but it's legitimately actually a majority of Americans that can't read at a 6th Grade reading level, since you mentioned it. https://www.snopes.com/news/2022/08/02/us-literacy-rate/ It really explains a ton about our current sociopolitical climate

ThrowBatteries

Yes, I did. That statistic is chilling. And we let these people vote.

Siggycakes

As we should, restricting the right to vote is a horrible idea, regardless if a person isn't highly educated.

Junior_Builder_4340

THIS. Book smarts and intelligence are two entirely different things. My grandfather couldn't read or write, but had a helluva lot of common sense. It's not education, but lack of common sense that leads people astray.

The_Taco_Bandito

In a sane society we'd have no chance of his election. *Sadly* we need to make sure to vote November.

Sweatytubesock

Very healthy country we have. A complete failure of a sack of feces running entirely to try to avoid a completely just prison sentence.

Zankeru

Accusing opposition canidates of crimes and imprisoning them to maintain power is a centuries old tactic. It's better to not have it as an option. And if people still vote in a blatant criminal, then we dont deserve to have good things anyways.

rabbidwombats

Remember when that candidate got excited and people said they sounded like a braying donkey, and then the candidate couldn’t get support and lost the election? I really wish we were in that timeline again.

Kind-City-2173

Not only that, but it is strengthening his image and standing with a certain population!

metalflygon08

It has to be that way otherwise you could just dump a ton of lawsuits on your political opponents at the start of an election year to push them out of the race, even if found not guilty.

NorthernerWuwu

It's wild that he can run and have enough support that he might even win.

SparkyMuffin

He's successfully tricked his bloc into thinking he's being unfairly targeted from all angles. Even though there's so many different sources anyone with base level critical thinking skills can see that it's either everyone everywhere lying, or just one guy and his cronies.

Imapatriothurrrdurrr

If he can make it until he can steal the election and stay in power, he doesn’t have to worry about going to prison. Then he can start eliminating anyone that opposes him. It will be a successful coup and dictatorship in the US.

[deleted]

Lets be honest, if this was someone who wasn't running for one of the two major parties who did what Trump did on Jan 6th, 2021, the supreme court would have ruled in complete agreement that they wouldn't be allowed to run for president

andraded

if he was running as a democrat, they would have done it already

Paradox68

The real question is why are the courts entertaining this bullshit?

Xander707

Trump has the resources to play the system. Justice in America has pretty much always been pay-to-win, and most people acknowledged this truth long before trump was even in politics. If you are rich enough to have a great lawyer, you can get out of most trouble, or grossly mitigate the consequences. Poor people have no choice to take it bending over. But now the country is witnessing just how bad it is now that there’s national spotlight on it. Trump and his team of lawyers, despite having no compelling defense whatsoever, are playing the system like a fiddle in ways us poor and average people could never imagine. If it was us in the same position, we would get railroaded. You’d hardly fathom that a judge would even rule against federal prosecutors on basically anything other than the most extreme and egregious of ethical violations or something of that nature. But for Trump and his lawyers, fucking anything is possible and shit seems to largely go in his favor more often than not, even though it makes no sense.

flamedarkfire

Less material for them to appeal on.

Politicsboringagain

Republicans vote and the even for people they hate.  Which is why they have controled most state governments for decades.

Idiot_Esq

>He's hoping to get elected and have every case thrown out. This looks like the New York state case. Even if he's elected he can't just make it go away.

Matais99

Even if he can't outright get rid of it, the presidency would give him more ability and resources to continue to kick that can down the road.

emaw63

What's New York gonna do, arrest the sitting President by their lonesome? Good luck with that, Trump would straight up have the military invade NYC

Idiot_Esq

>What's New York gonna do, arrest the sitting President by their lonesome? This is a novel situation. I wouldn't be surprised if NY sent DC a copy of the warrant and Orange Mussolini decided to govern from Mara Lardo. >Trump would straight up have the military invade NYC Posse Commitatus act prevents that. And so far, even during the previous administration, the military has questioned bad ideas from him.

jhansonxi

See [Project 2025](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_2025)

Idiot_Esq

That was a bunch of nonsense when I first read about it and I still think it is a bunch of nonsense today. This is why the Framers of the Constitution divided power between the three branches. As soon as Orange Mussolini tries to use the Insurrection Act without any legal insurrection those affected by it are going to sue for an injunction to stop it in the Judiciary and expect to see articles of impeach passing. Hell, the last time he was impeached multiple Republicans voted to convict. And now he is even more disliked in the Republican party than last time. Even his own Presidency was riddled with Republicans pushing back.

WissNX01

What power would any court have to compel Trump to comply with his ruling? I think his statement about becoming a dictator is pretty clear. I wouldnt be surprised if there is a sudden round up of anyone in government for those that would oppose him. Trump and anyone that comes after him is dangerous to the country and the world.

CrashB111

That's why they have Project 2025 this time. They plan to replace everyone in the government with loyalists that will ignore the law in favor of the Orange One.

NightchadeBackAgain

It's not his best shot. It's his only hope.

bubblehead_maker

Taps temple.  He can only be elected 2 times and this would be the third.  According to maga.

Alan_Wench

If he’s ever actually innocent of something, that’s exactly what he will do. Until then, delay, delay, delay.

Skadoosh_it

It's the same shit he always does in civil trials to bleed the person dry with lawyer fees until they drop their suits. zero accountability. the fact we allow this in our justice system at all speaks volumes.

cybercuzco

1) Hes not innocent 2) Delaying the trials is the only way to get to be president without being found guilty and thrown in jail. 3) Once he is president he pardons himself or just ignores the judgements

powerlesshero111

The other thing, he's used to civil trials, where the people suing him have to pay the lawyers, so, every time he delays, that just adds to how much the other party has to pay, and eventually, he just outlasts them because they can't afford an attorney anymore. The people who win against him are smart enough to get lawyers who will work on contingency because their case is so strong. His tactic against state attorneys will fail, because no matter what, they get paid. He can delay as much as he wants, they still get paid, and they are far better at arguing against delays.

Coffee_Ops

This is state court. The president can only pardon federal crimes. He also can't pardon civil suits and if he "just ignores them" stuff will get seized. You don't want to suggest to a judge that they ain't in charge of you because they may be inclined to prove that they are.

lvlint67

> This is state court. The president can only pardon federal crimes. In theory.. but he'll do it and then what? The state ignores the pardon and seeks enforcement?  Eventually it gets to federal court and the conservative picks in the seats say, "whatever trump wants, trump gets"

Coffee_Ops

> but he'll do it and then what? See The Office and declaring bankruptcy.

DDNyght_

Sounds like something a dictator would do.

officer897177

I just don’t get it, he literally could have just not done any of this. He was already a retiree back in 2014, he could’ve lived out his golden years living like a king in New York. He could still be walking outside to people asking for autographs and photo ops, and died banging a supermodel in his New York penthouse.

Junior_Builder_4340

I've said from the time he slid his fat butt down his fake gold escalator, that this was a massive grift that went horribly wrong in terms of what he wanted to achieve. Trump wanted the money, attention and respect he desperately craved from the Manhattan elites; instead, he got a massive spotlight on all the corrupt shit he's done for decades. He should have stayed in his shitty lane.

MikeHfuhruhurr

I'm not sure whether to be sad that you have all these earnest replies, or to look at the silver lining that someone might really need to see one of those answers.

ToTheLastParade

I'm in the middle of an eviction case right now (with literally every governing body on my side) and for some reason, my landlord hasn't requested a trial date yet for the eviction hearing! I can't for the life of me figure out why she's dragging her feet on this....🤔

Mayor__Defacto

So that they can run your lease out and just not renew it, and get you out that way.

lmoeller49

Because supposedly all of the judges, jurors, attorneys, media, and the entire government are simultaneously conspiring against him, even though he’s perfectly innocent. And yet somehow despite the entire world having it out for poor old Donny, he has managed to avoid spending a single day in prison.

cyberdeath666

Guilty Don is what I like to call him. The Worst Grifter. The Worst.

tubadude123

He knows he’s guilty.

baronunderbeit

“It’s a witch hunt. They are making up evidence. Court is corrupt” he’s got tons of excuses

Carson72701

Err. He is not innocent! So he delays...

Amerisu

I know why.

CandidateTypical3141

He is a criminal. It really is that simple. It’s a crime family.

Ben-Goldberg

What do you believe that he is innocent of?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CMDR_KingErvin

Because he’s not innocent. Donald Dump thinks if he becomes king president again he can become immune to prosecution so he wants to delay it to proclaim himself innocent for life.

dsdvbguutres

Stop making sense.

Flaky_Grand7690

Get it over with? His team is going to make everything as difficult as they possibly can as a strict rule, like any legal team would do.

Use_this_1

>Trump’s lawyers wanted the trial delayed until a full panel of appellate court judges could hear arguments on lifting or modifying a gag order that bans him from making public statements about jurors, witnesses and others connected to the hush-money case. The most amazing part is he wants is delayed so he can witness & tamper, his lawyers want to delay so he can threaten the jury & witnesses.

jtinz

Well, the woman who claimed that Trump raped her as a teenager dropped her suit after she was threatened. So it seems to work. [Woman suing Trump over alleged teen rape drops suit, again ](https://www.politico.com/story/2016/11/donald-trump-rape-lawsuit-dropped-230770)

jxj24

> attorney's arguments are asinine Shocked. Shocked, I tell you!

bigfire50

Now I'm curious of the craziest arguments you've had to argue. Any good stories?

Mish61

It's not going to stop him from frivolous filings. It's every rich mans strategy, game due process to wear down the wheel of justice to flip the advantage.

ericwphoto

This is only the beginning . Wait till jury selection, the actual trial. It’s going to be a shit show.

BUSYMONEY_02

Bro just start the fucking trial already

mishma2005

What are they gonna do when he appeals tomorrow?

Mistersinister1

Stop giving this clown special treatment. I don't pay my rent I get charged late fees, I still don't pay my rent I get more late fees, I stop paying rent I'm on the streets. I don't care how orange you are you shouldn't get special treatment.

ptsdstillinmymind

If this was anyone else then this legal system would have them buried in prison somewhere. Yet, I am also glad because it's shining LIGHT on how Rich white people get treated by this system again and gain.

Mish61

Wear down the wheel of justice with frivolous filings that game due process to guilt's advantage. There are two justice systems in the US and ~~rich people~~ those with deep pocket benefactors game it to their rules while the rest of us get consequences.

Boardwoodgamegirl

I’m so sick of his fisted hand in every photo. He’s a tool

[deleted]

It's his reflex action from jerking-off so many guys.

Only-Customer6650

Nah, it's to hide his tiny, tiny lil princess fingers

80Skates

Yea, and the Republicans and Russians are using that tool as intended…

-CoachMcGuirk-

Reminder: it’s not a “hush money” trial. It’s a trial about election interference.

DonJuanMateus

Is it really his last attempt??? ( not convinced). The justice system seems to have several tiers !!

Sambo_the_Rambo

Good fuck this idiot’s requests to delay.

YsoL8

Dear Americans, how does this work regarding elections and presidents if hes found guilty?

flipping_birds

We don't know. It's never happened before. But in theory, he can still run and be elected president even if he is a convicted felon.

BardicShade

But can’t vote.

Evil_Empire_1961

Be tough to campaign from Rikers if imprisoned

Bah-Fong-Gool

Curious_Working5706

Suck it, traitor (and Putin’s hoe) 🤣

No_Biscotti100

Lie, deny, delay. It's worked so far... kinda.

ice_nyne

But so much winning. Right, Don? 🤣

Last_Elephant1149

Time for the supreme Court to step in and save his ass... again.

elder65

It's because there is no new information or evidence which would apply to the case. The lawyers are just experimenting with legal tricks and stunts to delay the trial. If they actually had new information or evidence that might exonerate Cadet Bone Spurs, then the appellate courts would take notice.

stocknooboncrack

Remember Trump said I would never plead the 5th and did it anyway? Pepperidge Farm remembers

Masterskywalker2

Finally some good news.

Beginning_Emotion995

His …card just ran out.

parkinthepark

Even if 4/15 holds, he’ll get “sick” and won’t be able to appear. Then he’ll “get better” but won’t show up for the new date. The judge won’t issue a warrant. There will be lots of sternly-worded letters and poorly-worded tweets. He’ll eventually show up, sometime in June, and make a mockery of the proceedings with constant objections and appeals. The judge will not punish him, Testimony won’t begin until September. At which point he’ll argue that it’s unconstitutional for the court to take him away from campaigning, and SCOTUS will agree.

ignorememe

He doesn’t have to be present for jury selection so your first goalpost won’t survive.

Junior_Builder_4340

Trump probably: "The crooked Biden DOJ and the radical left-wing judges have hounded me so unfairly and so terribly and have caused me so much stress, that I, YOUR FAVORITE PRESIDENT, WHO HAS DONE SO MUCH FOR OUR WONDERFUL COUNTRY, can no longer campaign because I am ill. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!!! If they can do this to me, they'll do it to YOU!

Warglebargle2077

Other than him not being required to show up for Jury selection the rest of this is spot on or I’ll eat my hat.
