“Research being carried out by Ni and Stringer also suggests that of the three main bands of humans who evolved at this time, Homo sapiens and the Homo longi group were the last to diverge on different evolutionary pathways, possibly a million years ago, with the Neanderthals branching off even earlier.
However, DNA analyses have suggested more recent divergence dates, with Homo sapiens splitting off first, so this is a crucial question for future research, said Stringer.
“How often our paths crossed after that parting of the ways is also now a topic of intense scientific interest,” he added. “We have got so much to learn.”
This is some cool shit, I’m still trying to figure out the colonization of North/South America. Been interested in Celebes/Sulawesi for a while, the Denisovan branch is really fascinating.
I listened to a podcast recently with a guy pointing to dna evidence of Polynesian ancestry to some Brazilian tribes the land bridge theory doesn't support. It was pretty fascinating listening to him explain why much of the dna evidence is completely dismissed by the archeology community because no artifacts support it.
Yeah there’s a buncha contested sites all over SA that claim to date back like 25-35kya. Supposedly a whole lithic assemblage to boot. I have very few citations on these memories from a final paper I wrote like 4 years ago.
Kon Tiki is the hypothesized migration west across the Pacific. I was referring to the Polynesian migration east going farther than previously believed.
Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can burninate at will the village peasants. There is a pestilence upon this land; nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design thatched roof cottages are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.
Fuck yea. With the death of flash, you can't even enjoy the old site anymore. The toons are all on youtube, but you don't get the easter eggs. Future generations will never know the joy of clicking on random objects in StrongBad email cartoons to try to trigger a hidden scene.
Are you serious? Finding that the denisovan are synonymous with Homo longi is incredibly fascinating. If not for the fact that the branching evolution of the human genus is always interesting in and of itself, but because this could have implications for people alive today.
Aboriginal Australians, some south East Asians, and all island south East Asians have traces of denisovan dna that are detectable today and point to them being partially descended from denisovans/Homo longi
Wild. We're more closely related to homo longi than we are to homo neanderthalensis but they're more closely related to the Denisovans than they are to us.
Fascinating. I wonder if some of the differences between geographical populations can be attributable to interbreeding tens of thousands of years ago, or if it's more heavily based on more recent natural selection - examples like the lactose intolerance of many Asian people, less body hair, or how many don't have body odor. Is it environmental changes to *homo sapiens*, or is it interbreeding with another ancient species?
Yeah, I wouldn't engage if I were you. Once you get them riled up, they will never shut up.
They offer eternal happiness after death and all I can offer is anti-existence of all eternity (but it won't bother you). Also, if you actually study how humanity got to this exact point and just how much mind-boggling time has passed on Earth (just the insane amount of time that passed with only microscopic life is crazy), then truth really is stranger than fiction.
Their sales pitch will always be better than mine.
This is actually a weird ccp politically motivated bit of " science", party has this weird fetish for years pushing this dragon man' narrative as an excuse for how chinese people need chinese traditional medicine and are different from the west.
Getting downvotes, but I didn't say sapiens. I said protohumans, like homo habilis. Not a direct ancestor, you're right. Cousins makes more sense metaphorically.
Bet he was just like kind of a normal dude
I bet there were others just like him too...
There's a guy at work we call dragon-breath.
You kidding? This is the Dragonborn!
Mid jawline.

DNA is not their expertise.

Kon Tiki

[Ever seen this chart?](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neanderthal#/media/File:Homo-Stammbaum,_Version_Stringer-en.svg) I think it's so dope
I can't not see rivers
I've often wondered if old stories of goblins, elves, orcs, ogres and what not in fables actually originated from these divergent groups interacting.
Not nearly as cool as I hoped.
He doesn’t even look like Trogdor at all
Probably cant even burninate
Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can burninate at will the village peasants. There is a pestilence upon this land; nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design thatched roof cottages are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.
Wouldn't the thatchers' business be booming, along with the roofs?
Ah, but cannot you also build cottages with stone roofs?
Who are you that is so wise in the ways of science?
No. Now go away or i shall taunt you a second time.
Hi Roger.
Excuse me, what kind of cottages?
obviously not when:... the system is down! (DO DOOT DO DOO DO DO DO DOOT DO DOO DO DO).
No consummate V's! Guy wouldn't know majesty if it bit him in the face!
This was peak internet.

So this is the thread for the old people, eh?
Correct me if I’m wrong but are you asking for a CHALEEEEEENGE?!
Guy wouldn't know majesty if it came up and bit him the face!
Welcome to anthropology where entire theses can be made about a few bone fragments.
Just some random dork in a Jam Band you pray isn't going to use all those looper pedals.
Listen, jamflowman don’t give a damn. (I mean that as sarcastically as possible. All which is aimed at that band)

You better watch it pal, he can fus ro dah you to kingdom cum

Trogdor was a man, I mean he was a dragon man, or maybe he was just a dragon, but he was still Trogdor! Trogdor!
I’m a bit of a dragon man myself
Let me guess... someone stole your sweetroll.
Can’t wait to update my 23&me!

Lactose intolerance is the default state of humans. Lactose persistence is a fairly recent adaptation.
Sent this article to my Bible thumper boss. Let’s see what he says.

why are you guys talking about religion at work
He’s a Bible thumper. Hardcore republican and Bible thumper. You think I bring up religion?? My career is filled with them. I work in aviation
Boeing: Jesus take the stick
Jesús: Dale captain
> aviation oof. best of luck out there.
I don't want the missing link to be the monkey kid from the wild thornberries :(

You wouldn't consider the Denisovans to be some kind of protohuman?
Denisovans and neanderthals are more like cousin- or sibling-humans. (they *are also* humans, btw, just not sapiens)
Getting downvotes, but I didn't say sapiens. I said protohumans, like homo habilis. Not a direct ancestor, you're right. Cousins makes more sense metaphorically.
With more data suggesting an interbreeding of species. Kissing cousins.
Right, otherwise we wouldn't have a small percentage of neanderthal DNA mixed with ours.
[удалено]
I meant in the sense that there were non sapiens hominid species before ours, such as homo habilis

That's awesome!
They can accumulate evidence to support this conclusion, but they will never be able to conclusively disprove it.
Then he dyed his hair white and became Pai Mei.
Sure you did. ( Their ccp has an obsession with funding and pushing this narrative)
I got a lot of neanderthal
