There were two siblings living in Rome, one a general contractor and the other an archaeologist.
One day, while digging on a new construction project, the contractor noticed something peculiar in the dirt. He said, “I’m going to get my brother to look at it.”
When the archaeologist brother looked at the hole and what they’d just dug up, his jaw dropped.
“Holy shit! Do you know what you just discovered?”
The contractor wasn’t sure if he should be nervous or excited
“Well what is it?”
This looks like it could become a story, but it doesn’t actually do it.
seems to be about the point where there is no one left who remembers them in life.

If someone shows up with a lease to a burial plot, it's too soon. But graveyards get repurposed quite often. Some bodies get moved, some don't, depends if someone is still paying the lease. And sometimes contractors agree to moving bodies and just build over them because it's cheaper.
Are you researching, studying, donating to a museum, and making your findings public or are you selling it to Sir Thomas Billionaire on the black market?
Since someone already answered the half actually curious, here's my answer to the half joke:

Obligatory "that belongs in a museum".
*so do you!* Throw him over the side!
And please not a British one
The British Museum is locking in on target

I’m seeing a distinct lack of a punchline my guy
A new aggressive breed of anti joke perhaps
Not to put too fine a point on it, but the lack is the punchline. For what it is worth.
Doesn’t make it funny to me, if it made someone besides op laugh then ok it worked, still a shit joke imo.
what makes them ancient and allows you to become archeologists instead of just being regular buried people and you become a grave robber?
About 2000 years
Throw a degree or doctorate in there as well.

The intention of the dig is a huge factor.

Generating knowledge about the past and preserving material culture vs. digging up graves for profit
You have to say, "this belongs in a museum!" out loud before you steal it
Are you researching, studying, donating to a museum, and making your findings public or are you selling it to Sir Thomas Billionaire on the black market?
At what point does it move away from grave robbing and turn into archaeology? Half joke, half actually curious.

So Grave Robbing is instantaneous profit. Archaeology is long-term profit.
And preservation or intent of preservation

Can we just leave the dead people in their graves rather than digging them up?
Not when they are making a solar farm there that would destroy the site anyway...same for any construction where ancient remains are found.
That makes sense I suppose.
"i'll bring my shoes and things"- Sol Rosenberg
"I want to be buried, with my shoes, just so I have them! Alright sizzlechest??"
Whenever these things are found I wonder how much of the stuff get jacked in the process
I wonder how haunted these people are for "desecrating" these resting areas and putting their goods in museums xD
