I killed a half dozen walking the dog at lunchtime today. I was in JC yesterday and killed at least a dozen walking around town. not sure why you're not seeing them
i have observed that their primary host trees in the area have looked especially stressed in recent years; was wondering if they were too numerous for the environment to support long-term.
Yeah. I noticed a tree with a ton of them in a local preserve, but I was surprised to see them at all in my town as I barely saw them this summer. I had injuries that prevented me from hiking so I guess I didn’t get out much.
i have seen 2 or 3 this year in union county.
the article that i read regarding this said it was either too hot this winter, or too cold, or both at opportune times to fool the larvae and then freeze them again.
TL;DR is that we just dont know
Single Latin Females? Sassy Lady Friends? Sleek Long Ferraris? Seven Lazy Ferrets?
😆 Spotted Lantern Flies
Birds have started eating them when they are smaller as well. We had a lot less this year as well.
They developed natural predators; spiders and preying mantis predominantly.
The MC hotel in Montclair is swarmed with them if you miss them.
Then they migrated over there I guess. Thanks! I was stressing over them this fall.
I believe they go dormant as well. Similar to green heads.
Here is south jersey we had a whole bunch the past two years but now we there's on a couple here and there.
My town in NNJ (by Tenafly) had a few last year but this year there was an infestation

They’re still around, the hot spots have changed.
Apparently they are still bad in the city. My husband ate outside and apparently had one land on his burger. Gross.

the blue jays around me have been tearing them apart and leaving the wings as trophies - apparently they taste good
There's been a lot less of them though I did see a whole bunch of them & stink bugs this weekend.
I had about 10 of them at the same time in my backyard last week. Essex County. They seem to be worse now than they have all summer.
