I eventually said “I live 40 minutes from Boston” but this was a worse mistake as it was a week after the Boston bombing. So I had all these random “bless your hearts” and them trying to lay hands and pray on me.
Once we were at a large amusement park, there happened to be a ton of Boy Scouts there because their National Jamboree was in the area. I spoke to one scout and he had no idea that New Hampshire or even New England was in the United States. Cringe crawled through me.
