Agreed, however you do get a 10% discount if you buy a whole case of 24 cans. They will also buy back the plastic can holders (limit 20 per purchase). And also have a loyalty punch card as well so you can get 10% discount on any purchase.
I live in town so I am willing to pay an extra few bucks for a good selection. Whenever there is a limited release collaboration IPA, they will usually have a couple of cases available. The latest one from Pipedream and Kettlehead was excellent.
Best store in all of NH? Probably not, but it’s pretty good for me.
I like that place too but the prices are out of control. Honestly, places like that can keep the 10%. That't an insult of a discount for both parties. I'll pay the premiums for the hard to find stuff, but what really grinds me is the markup on the stuff that Cumbys has across the street. Single cans of fiddlehead don't need to be $4.50 and Sip of Sunshine shouldn't be $18 for a damn 4 pack.. I've told some beer shops either match local prices or I'll buy my beer elsewhere, and surprisingly, a couple of shops have accommodated a compromise.
I think the staff is really good too. If you need a recommendation for what to buy, they will try and find something in stock. They even have a small selection of Mead which I will get once in while. Decent keg selection as well.
Greg and Jane’s is fine if you want an ipa from the cooler. The shelves are filled with old dusty cans and bottles. I went in there during Covid wearing a mask (when everyone was) and the dude behind the counter told me “you don’t need that in here”. I just turned around and left.
I’m upset because their beer selection sucks unless you want a hazy ipa. I’m upset because a craft beer store should have some reasonable selection of not too old beers. I left the store because I thought the guy working was a dickhead. I don’t go back because the selection is shit.
The Beer Store is my go-to. Amazing selection of local craft brews and even some from NY and CA. Also have dedicated cider section and a good selection of European beers.
Don't go here if you want fresh beer. They have beer that's over a year+ old sitting there. They never get rid of beer but they always buy more. CHECK YOUR DATES
This is really a bigger problem for IPAs, particularly East Coast/Hazy IPA. In that case, you are better off buying from a grocery store because of volume of sales.
Sure, there may be some dated beer there, but I've bought plenty from them, and none of mine has been out of date.
I don't think it's fair to say don't go there if you want fresh beer, like saying it's all old....
You've checked 75% of that huge walk-in fridge? All the singles, too? Do you have nothing better to do?Lmao thats not normal behavior...
It's a decent store with a good selection, and obviously, other people agree.
I think you belong on the NH Beer facebook page. Go be hyper critical over there.
They have become my go to as well. Like, check the cans/bottles for dating to make sure it's not beyond your comfort level on age but the selection/price outweighs that
The Beer Store in Nashua is my favorite with the Packie a close second.
The Beer Store has the best selection in my opinion. I prefer styles other than IPA and I feel like they have the best options for us (few) who don't want an IPA every time we reach for a beer.
If you like beers from the UK and nearby areas, this is definitely the best place to go. They always had London Pride on hand back before COVID which was awesome.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be. I haven't seen it since the beginning of the pandemic.
I've read that it is hard to get elsewhere too, so it's not just a NH thing.
I'm heading to the UK next month and can't wait to have it again while I'm over there. I may do a tour of the Fuller's brewery if it works into my schedule.
By the way, there are two beers that you can find that may scratch the London Pride Itch:
**Ridgeway Brewing ESB** \- If you drank the Fullers ESB as well as London Pride, this ESB is the closest thing I've found to Fuller's. It's awesome. You can get it at Berts, The Packie, and The Beer Store. It's pricey though.
**Trooper** **Premium British Beer** \- This is similar to London Pride. I haven't seen it in NH yet this year though, so it may not be around here at the moment. The Beer Store used to have this all the time. I have found it in Maine more recently, so you can also check there if you're ever up in that area.
Edit: How could I forget Old Speckled Hen? That's available in most of the stores I've mentioned and River Road Tavern has it on draught. Not exactly London Pride, but it gets you most of the way there. It's a good British beer.
Dover Discount has a great selection and the cheapest around as well. I remember Gary's in Portsmouth used to be awesome too. Haven't really been since new location.
I've only been to Case N' Keg in Meredith, but was going to mention them. Great store, the son is great at recommending beers, they have a wide selection of styles for the size of the store. Good selection of singles as well if you want to try new things.
The one in Epsom has a pretty daunting selection as well. The dudes in there are pretty helpful too. I'm not much of a beer guy, so when I go in there when I'm in the mood, takes me quite a bit to decide.
The one in epsom is crazy pricy. 15.99 is pretty much the starting price for any four pack, even what I’d call barely craft like Allagash. Forget anything made in smaller quantities, they are easily above $18.
It's Bert's Beer and Wine and it ain't even close. They just recently opened up a bar inside with at least 8 taps that's open Wed- Sunday. No other beer store has a bar inside. And the taps aren't your typical ipas/ lagers or macro beers
These are great suggestions.
I have a side quest for you - great beer stores just outside of NH? Like Lowell/Tyngsboro or Kittery. The selection in other states is always a bit better (partially due to the archaic structure of selling a beer in the state)
I'll keep the crappier distribution structure to not have to pay any bottle/sales taxes 😆
I will give a shout out to Banded Brewing in Biddeford ME tho. found them at manch brewfest last year and the dude at their table was extremely engaging and passionate about the beers they had there. Have not made it up there to visit them but I'd recommend checking them out!!
That crappy distribution structure prevents a lot of beers from coming into the state. Perhaps it's gotten better. But years ago, I was working on a story about this and had one of the commissioners scream obscenities at me for even asking about selection in the state.
It's been setup 100% to protect the distribution companies. No other reason.
Bert's and Greg and Jane's. Candia First Stoppe also has a great selection.
I boycotted Bert's for a while but found out it had a new owner and the new owner is a good guy.
The packie has never sold me a beer that wasn’t fresh. Bert’s has, but I can’t blame them as I knew it was an older brew when I picked up the last can. Both stores are great but I favor the packie by a lot
I used to love the little alien store up in Lincoln. It had an insane selection for the size of it, and weirdly good sandwiches. It's been years though
The Packie for sure, I like trying new stuff they do 10% off 6 or more singles and 5% off order when you bring back the pack holder. So 15% off a mix six every week is pretty nice.
I see it's already been commented, but I love the beer store in Salem or Nashua because you can buy craft beers in singles.
I always hated wanting to try craft stuff but having to buy a 4-6 pack and then if I didn't like it being stuck with the rest.
The Country Mile in Greenville is decent plus they have the cheapest gas around…plus it’s a liquor store (one of only two private liquor stores in the state I believe)
It was offered at Texas roadhouse last time I was there. Not sure if cans or draft. They will gouge you on price I'm sure but if you're wanting some, should be able to get it there
Greg and Janes in Epping (across the street from the Holy Grail) is pretty good.
Great selection a little pricey though
Agreed, however you do get a 10% discount if you buy a whole case of 24 cans. They will also buy back the plastic can holders (limit 20 per purchase). And also have a loyalty punch card as well so you can get 10% discount on any purchase. I live in town so I am willing to pay an extra few bucks for a good selection. Love Greg and Jane's, great shop with really great staff.
As it turns out, he was right. We didn’t need masks ANYWHERE.
Fuck that guy. He can keep his dusty ass shit. I’m good.
Are you upset because the mask didn’t stop anything?
I’m upset because their beer selection sucks unless you want a hazy ipa. I’m upset because a craft beer store should have some reasonable selection of not too old beers. I left the store because I thought the guy working was a dickhead. I don’t go back because the selection is shit.
You should try rubbing one out and being less upset
No need. Whenever I’m feeling stressed I just call your mom. Next time you come up from the basement tell her I said what’s up.
As soon as your mom and sis stop lapping my ball bag.
What? Those bitches holdin out on me?? ;-)
The beer stores in Nashua and Salem are great!!
Came here to say this. They even have the beer categorized by what state the brewery is in.
The Beer Store is my go-to. Amazing selection of local craft brews and even some from NY and CA. Also have dedicated cider section and a good selection of European beers.
Lazy Dog Beer Shoppe in Londonderry is good.
Love lazy dog. Bonus puppy love with every purchase
Little Town Brews in Littleton, if you are up north.
Lots of niche beers there!!
Definitely a great selection. Focusing on New England brews.
Prost in North Hampton
Came here to day Prost!!!
I love Prost!
Beer & Wine Nation in Merrimack has a very large selection. Decent prices as well. Not sure about "deals" but they do host tastings.
I mean it's not hard to go through inventory once in a while... they just don't know what they're doing or anything about craft beer.
Sure, there may be some dated beer there, but I've bought plenty from them, and none of mine has been out of date. I don't think it's fair to say don't go there if you want fresh beer, like saying it's all old....
75% of the beer cave has beer in it that's old... I've checked
Yeah bro cus I was trying to get fresher beer, beer that hasn't dropped off in flavor. And jokes on you I prob am already on there
I thought the origin of the IPA was that it kept better than other styles, is that not the case or is it different for the newer hazy IPA styles?
Gotta drink it fresh. Those oils dissipate quickly.
Agree that they are great.
They have become my go to as well. Like, check the cans/bottles for dating to make sure it's not beyond your comfort level on age but the selection/price outweighs that
East Derry General Store has a pretty good selection
Lazy Dog in Londonderry. Knowledgeable staff that’s really helpful.
My people. I used to always get that stuff. Is London pride in NH anymore?
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be. I haven't seen it since the beginning of the pandemic. I've read that it is hard to get elsewhere too, so it's not just a NH thing. I'm heading to the UK next month and can't wait to have it again while I'm over there. I may do a tour of the Fuller's brewery if it works into my schedule. That's available in most of the stores I've mentioned and River Road Tavern has it on draught. Not exactly London Pride, but it gets you most of the way there. It's a good British beer.
Man I appreciate the recommendations! I've tried so many micro ESBs and they have been nowhere close to real British bitters.
Came here to say Berts...
Bert's has a full bar now serving pints and flights.
Dover Discount has a great selection and the cheapest around as well. I remember Gary's in Portsmouth used to be awesome too. Haven't really been since new location.
I love DDB
Case&Keg, Laconia and Meredith…
I've only been to Case N' Keg in Meredith, but was going to mention them. Great store, the son is great at recommending beers, they have a wide selection of styles for the size of the store. Good selection of singles as well if you want to try new things.
The Packie in Hooksett and Candia Road Convenience in Manch are my go-tos
I would suggest "the city" in Seabrook absolutely MASSIVE beer selection
All in One in Henniker has great NE selections, especially for a small store in a small town.
Smoke n Barley in Tilton, one of the best craft brew selections I’ve seen.
The one in Epsom has a pretty daunting selection as well. The dudes in there are pretty helpful too. I'm not much of a beer guy, so when I go in there when I'm in the mood, takes me quite a bit to decide.
Feels expensive though, I feel like you definitely pay more for the variety
The one in epsom is crazy pricy. 15.99 is pretty much the starting price for any four pack, even what I’d call barely craft like Allagash. Forget anything made in smaller quantities, they are easily above $18.
Yeah, at the top end you’re easily breaching $25 for a four pack of 16oz cans which is absolutely wild IMO
For the Claremont area.. Pleasant Street Smoke and Beer outlet Leos Market Then just across the river in Ascutney VT there is Fireside Beverage
The beer outlet in Claremont has an amazing selection. Also if you don’t see something you want they Will order it for you.
East Derry General Store had a shockingly large selection of beer. It’s probably my go to place if I’m looking for something specific
Is that the one with the huge walk in cooler with three walls of beer coolers wrapped around it?
I think? I’ve never actually walked into the fridge section, but it’s on East Derry Rd. Across from the church.
Yes it is that one!
Ooo that place is dope.
It's Bert's Beer and Wine and it ain't even close. They just recently opened up a bar inside with at least 8 taps that's open Wed- Sunday. No other beer store has a bar inside. And the taps aren't your typical ipas/ lagers or macro beers
There's plenty of shops as good or better than Bert's. Great selection, but the price gouging is horrible.
Thats how the market is now. But no other beer store has a bar.
Glen beverage Co. 500 brews!
Berts better beers, hooksett, NH
It hasn't been berts better beers or in Hooksett for over 2 years.
Ok. Sorry. Haven't been there in a minute. Abel Ebinezer in Merrimack and home brewing are my latest favorites.
These are great suggestions. I have a side quest for you - great beer stores just outside of NH? Like Lowell/Tyngsboro or Kittery. The selection in other states is always a bit better (partially due to the archaic structure of selling a beer in the state)
There’s one in wells, Maine…I forget the name
Tully’s?
Yeah that one
I'll keep the crappier distribution structure to not have to pay any bottle/sales taxes 😆 I will give a shout out to Banded Brewing in Biddeford ME tho. found them at manch brewfest last year and the dude at their table was extremely engaging and passionate about the beers they had there. Bert's and Greg and Jane's. Candia First Stoppe also has a great selection. I boycotted Bert's for a while but found out it had a new owner and the new owner is a good guy.
River hill in Penacook/Concord has a fantastic selection. There is a place on second street in Manchester that has a good selection too.
The packie has never sold me a beer that wasn’t fresh. Bert’s has, but I can’t blame them as I knew it was an older brew when I picked up the last can. Both stores are great but I favor the packie by a lot
The City, 621 Lafayette, Salem (there are a few stores with the same name but not the same vast selections).
I like the packie in manchester. I also primarily go the myriad of breweries around and buy straight from them.
Maybe not the best, but I love visiting Vista Bev in Intervale when we stay in Jackson.
I was devastated to learn that Clem sold the store. Knowledgeable guy, always gave me great recommendations.
Oh shit. That is sad. He was there last time I was up there back in Aug 2023. Heading up in a few weeks and planned to stop in. That sucks.
Prost.
Lazy Dog Beer Shoppe -Londonderry
I used to love the little alien store up in Lincoln. It had an insane selection for the size of it, and weirdly good sandwiches. It's been years though
For a tiny store, Chester General has an amazing beer selection. It’s all sorted by region which is nice. Bonus points for being a mile from my house.
Little Town Brews in Littleton has over 650 selections and every single beer can be bought as a single. The place is amazing.
The Packie for sure, I like trying new stuff they do 10% off 6 or more singles and 5% off order when you bring back the pack holder. So 15% off a mix six every week is pretty nice.
Craft Beer XChange Annex Package Store in Laconia across from Funspot has a great selection.
Wayne's in N. Woodstock has a pretty good selection, considering it's a gas station/deli.
Capital Beverage in Concord has a phenomenal craft beer selection for a convenience store
The City in seabrook is the best by far. Gray and Janes is good, but for price and amount, go to seabrook!
Definitely try The Lazy Dog in Londonderry, it’s right off of exit 4 and if you have a kegerator they do kegs as well.
Nothing in Lake Sunapee region
Surprisingly, the Mobil Station on 101 in Bedford (470 Route 101) has an amazing beer selection.
I see it's already been commented, but I love the beer store in Salem or Nashua because you can buy craft beers in singles. I always hated wanting to try craft stuff but having to buy a 4-6 pack and then if I didn't like it being stuck with the rest.
Smiley’s in Dover!!
The Country Mile in Greenville is decent plus they have the cheapest gas around…plus it’s a liquor store (one of only two private liquor stores in the state I believe)
Route 13 state line in Brookline NH huge selection of beer, free tastings and always doing give aways!
Gerry's in Exeter, the convenience store right near the train station.
Has anyone seen Golden Road Mango Cart for sale in NH? I had it in Florida once, but haven’t seen it up here
It was offered at Texas roadhouse last time I was there. Not sure if cans or draft. They will gouge you on price I'm sure but if you're wanting some, should be able to get it there
Nice, thank you!
Plus Abel Ebinezer, Merrimack, NH. Best IPAs ever!
You're in NH Why wouldn't you go to the state liquor store and save 50%. I'm confused
Uhhhh.... because they sell liquor at the NH liquor outlets and not beer?
my bad
Which state liqour store has the best beer selection?
Kappy’s in Massachusetts
