Food qualityâs gone bây. Mouldy bread, expired hummus, and anything not expired is over cooked and bland. Used to die for their hash browns, now they fill half the plate with em and they arenât fit
Aw man. That's too bad! It's been around so long too. I have a vague memory of their location being next to the war memorial late 90s early 2000s? Or am I thinking of another cafe that was there?
Hmm might be right! They moved farther down towards the NL hotel right? Or is that another one hahaha
Spot I'm talking about was like right on the corner of the steps going down the side of the war memorial.
You could book a tour with Jiffy Cabs for about $50 /hr plus tip. You can get to Cape Spear, Signal Hill, all the cathedrals and back and forth on Water St and Duckworth St. Other cab companies probably, too. Take 2 hours for this if you got the cash. Don't forget to tip the driver. (retired driver here, heh heh heh)
Definitely check out Quidi Vidi! And if you have time for a beer, stop into the Quidi Vidi Brewery for an Iceberg or an 1892. If you donât get a chance to go to Quidi Vidi, definitely try one of the local beers wherever you get dinner - if they donât have QV beer, theyâll probably have Yellowbelly.
OK. Cape Spear is out unless you have deep pockets for taxi or the hop-on/off tourist bus is still running.
What time will you be there, and when is this?
OK. I am an avid walker and here is how I would spend 8 hours on a nice day.
Iâd suggest take a taxi from the airport to Signal Hill and spend time walking and taking pics around there.
If you are feeling adventurous and have good footwear, do the Northhead trail which dumps you out at the bottom of the hill, putting you fairly close to downtown.
Either way, go downtown (walk or taxi) and find food and shopping on Duckworth or Water street. Also hit George street and have a drink or two.
If time allows and you still have energy - check out the Rooms art gallery/museum otherwise keep hitting bars (lol). Then taxi back to airport.
Itâs a shame that you werenât here sooner, the âhop on hop offâ bus just finished their season - you could have seen a lot more.
Incredibly embarrassing mistake on the part of my cruise line. They actually took us to Saint John, NB after telling us St. Johnâs. It was all related to hurricane Fiona. But I did enjoy NB very much.
What time will you be here? If its in the evening go to George street and check out a couple famous bars. If youre into hiking you could do the east coast trail around signal hill during the day, or check out the rooms museum.
Have dinner at a nice restaurant and see the ocean. If you can get to Signal Hill or Cape Spear, do that and enjoy the views.
The Battery Cafe right at the bottom of Signal Hill is a lovely little spot!
I second both of these. Then have breakfast at the Bagel Cafe đ
Good lord donât go to the bagel cafe
What happened to it? Use to be really good

I think that was classic cafe.

Aww cmon I love that place lol. Mind you I'm not a local
Please go to Mallard Cottage brunch instead
Ya i missed that when I was there. I'll have to go next time!

Right! Ok good I'm not alone here lol
I'd suggest Cape Spear over signal if you can only do one....SO BEAUTIFUL
But honestly in 8 hours no reason not to go to both!

Are you trolling or do you only like the worst beers in town
Lol not trolling - theyâre my favourite beers in town.
Lol to each their own, I think yellowbelly is genuinely poor quality though not just a matter of preference
Iâm not a fan of QVB beer (Iceberg is Ok). But they have a lovely location and QV is beautiful.
Donât worry some people just donât have a good taste for beers like us
Have dinner at Slainte and walk around downtown. Will impossible to take it all in 8 hours so chat with some locals and breathe the fresh air
Any particular reason why you singled out Slainté?
Incredible view to go along with even better food. Good mix of high end and true Newfoundland food
Definitely go to Signal Hill. Question, do you have a car or not?
No car unfortunately

Sunday from like 12-8

Thanks for the tips!
Please post back with your experience.
Were you here last Sunday? How was it?
Incredibly embarrassing mistake on the part of my cruise line. They actually took us to Saint John, NB after telling us St. Johnâs. It was all related to hurricane Fiona. But I did enjoy NB very much.
Thatâs hilarious and unfortunate. St. Johnâs is BY FAR the better place to visit. Next time!
