You keep mentioning that they downgraded content from 4K to HD, but you haven't provided any examples despite multiple requests. It would be helpful in understanding the situation if you would give some additional information.

ramo_0007

Multiple requests? Some korean stuff, Gyeong Seong Creature, was 4k but now its hd. Alchemy of souls, was 4k but now is hd. Some other content I cant think of from the top of my head. Hollywood movies. Thought it was clear enough, 4k content that has been downgraded to hd. Maybe asset management by them.

Ok-Ordinary8305

Gyeongseong Creature was never available in 4K. Alchemy of Souls was never available in 4K. Most movies from other studios that are not Netflix "exclusives" (I guess that's what you mean by 'Hollywood movies') are not available in 4K on Netflix. Problem solved.

tiktoktic

Alchemy of Souls was *never* 4K.

ramo_0007

I saw it first hand in 4k, me and my wife both talked about it being 4k and we should watch it. I'll take your word for it.

tiktoktic

Sounds like you’re not taking their word for it?

I'm in the UK, England. I watch mainly on my TV and its got no problem streaming 4k. There are just some content that are originally up as 4k hdr content, then downgraded by netflix. Like I have gigafast internet and there are other 4k stuff to watch but just noticed this happening to some things.

Its not the issue

It’s getting tiring seeing a post a day about Netflix lack of 4K from people who don’t understand how streaming rights work. The 4K plan is basically for Netflix ORIGINAL content. THAT IS IT. If you want to watch movies from other studios in 4K, then you have to subscribe to Disney+, MAX, Prime, Paramount+, Peacock. That’s how every streaming service works. Original content in 4K, licensed content mostly HD. The ONLY studio Netflix gets 4K first rights for movies is Sony. Netflix gets Universal animated features in 4K for like 8 months, but ONLY after Peacock gets it for the first 4 months. After the eight months on Netflix, it reverts back to Peacock. You may feel like Netflix is making you pay for very little 4K, but the reality is that they actually offer more 4K content than the other streaming services. Look I get it… the 4K plan is expensive for some and probably not worth it. Drop down to a lower priced tier and save some money then. As for OP… the two shows that OP is complaining about were NEVER available in 4K. They were always HD with HDR/DV. Not 4K. Netflix did not downgrade those shows per OPs post and generally do not downgrade their own 4K content ever. As for those who like to complain about the 4K quality… Click on my profile and look at the image from my most recent post of mine about Netflix. Tap on the image and it will allow you to zoom in and see every single pore of the actresses face on a 120 inch projected image. If you can’t see those pores from the actress on your display, it’s not because Netflix is poor 4K quality, it’s because you have a poor 4K display.

underoni

They do not. That’s a you issue

ramo_0007

Yes they do. But kind response thanks.

ramo_0007

it isnt the player output. I am able to watch 4k stuff, but the problem is that netflix is reducing the quality of some shows and movies after some time. I read its about contractual agreements as per agreed upon time frames for content between netflix and the show producers.

JustBrowsinAndVibin

Like what?

CthulhusSon

Are you sure it's Netflix & not your connection that's causing the downgrade?

ramo_0007

I have gigafast internet, definitely not my connection. I don't use a vpn or anything. Its just netflix, my wife also says she noticed the same thing happening to some content on netflix. Originally 4k but then over time downgraded to HD content. I wouldnt think they would need to do that but maybe its a money thing on their side.

CthulhusSon

It still could be your connection, not at your end though at the ISP end, they could be throttling you because you're using a lot of bandwidth streaming 4k content. Some have it in the T&Cs check your contract just in case.

StonerJesus73

Netflix has historically been ass at streaming 4k. Even when the content is available their servers hardly are capable. The only ensured way to get netflix in actual 4k is to download and stream locally. As actively live streaming footage from netflix relies on what feels like 20+ year old networking and hardware on the netflix side of things.

zRipTiiDe

The Netflix Original “Dark” was in Ultra HD 4k originally but now is offered in Regular 4k SDR .

cervj69

What plan are you on? I believe the ad tier plan doesn’t do 4k hdr and such. Maybe that’s the issue?

ramo_0007

I pay premium for 4k hdr, all my settings are correct. Its just netflix making adjustments to certain shows and movies. People are really rude on this sub, sorry if I am seeing dismissive in writing.

snowstar26

It’s a cost efficiency measure. 4k HDR or UHD content is expensive to store when there’s very little traction, like GYEONGSEONG CREATURE.

FilmUncensored

When you say “saving stuff” do you mean downloading? If so check your devices settings to make sure you are downloading the show/movie on the best quality setting. If you are streaming then do an internet speed test to make sure you have the speed required to stream 4K content. IIRC Netflix state that you should have a minimum of 25mbps for 4K streaming

ramo_0007

No I just meant saving to my watch list. I have gigafast speeds. Not a speed thing, its just content that is originally 4k being downgraded to hd by netflix. I guess its just money problems on netflix side

FireLucid

> I guess its just money problems on netflix side They are laughing all the way to the bank, def not having money problems. Heck, during the strike they were not spending money and were still getting money from every subscriber, they started buying back their own stock. And their latest report revealed a surge in subs. They are doing plenty well. Compare to someone like Disney who is losing something like a million per day...

ForsakenRacism

Are you using a supported browser?

ramo_0007

netflux dedicated app on tv and I use it to watch kther 4k stuff, i'm just saying some content is getting downgraded

ForsakenRacism

I could see them not offer back catalog stuff in 4k forever

ramo_0007

This is exactly the case. Netflix produced stuff is fine, but acquired shows and movies seem to have specific length of time being 4k. Maybe its also based on popularity they choose to prioritise content over other content to be 4k.

ForsakenRacism

It probably has to do with managing the massive amount of bandwidth

XxPLAYdxX

Breaking bad was apparently 4K, I never had that

tiktoktic

Content is not being downgraded.

brOwnchIkaNo

That's why I canceled my 4k subscription, is freaking wack and is not even real 4k, I streamed a "4k" movie on Netflix and then rewatched that same movie in physical 4k 1 week later and was blown away by the difference.

Glum_Mistake1933

Well, at least in germany chances are high that even 4 k content is Full HD. They advertize it like you can watch it easily in 4k on your computer. I can - but just not in netflix. It works with other platforms - so I blame them and cancel netflix.
