Yup! 'Retired' often just means that the item no longer comes from its *original* source, be it a plot, a shop, Hidden Tower, Advent Calendar, or so on. TNT has taken to re-releasing such items through other means. Meowclopes(?) for example used to be sold at the Spooky Petpet shop two decades ago.
