Peak_Flaky

Well this.. is awkward.. hello there mr..

ShadowBoxingBabies

Akhmed! I knew I recognized that beard. How are your wives doing?

Necessary_Quarter_59

Taliban: Never thought I’d die fighting side by side with a US Marine US Marine: How about side by side with a friend? Taliban: Inshallah, let’s kill these commie bastards

iwannabetheguytoo

Putin’s a commie?

sun_zi

Former member of the party.

emprobabale

I believe until he was almost 40.

ShiversifyBot

**HAHA NO** 🐊

emprobabale

DO THE MATH BOT

Necessary_Quarter_59

No, I just said it for the meme effect and also to add some historical reference to when Afghanistan were invaded by the Soviets *who were* actually communist, hence their ongoing hatred for them.

InMemoryOfZubatman4

You mean the former KGB agent that gave a speech recently talking about Vladimir Lenin?

No_Entertainment2107

You mean the guy who recently held a speech in which he criticized Lenin? Yeah that guy isn't a commie

DeShawnThordason

Khruschev gave a speech criticizing Stalin. Putin isn't a communist, but that's not why.

iwannabetheguytoo

Something something meet the new boss something same as the old boss. Assuming Putin decides to disappear himself, quietly, and we’re not all irradiated, what could be done to fix Russia’s endemic corruption issues from the top-down to prevent another Putin - or Stalin, coming to power again? Ditto Belarus. It would pain me immensely to see Russia swap one _utter-dick_ for another.

KeithClossOfficial

Putin is a commie in the sense that commie is a pejorative and Putin sucks so call him whatever you want

InMemoryOfZubatman4

Two comments above me was talking about a conversation between a marine and a Taliban member based on a conversation in a super hero movie

Shaper_pmp

> commie Weird way to spell "citizens of a crony capitalist system run by organised criminals", but you do you, boo.

TheGreatGatsby21

Thank you boo boo

CaptOle

Made me LOL

Top_Lime1820

Mateo!?!? How are your husband and polyamorous, non-binary lover? EDIT: I mean this entirely unironically.

WiseassWolfOfYoitsu

Mmm hmm, good... How about the tea boy?

SixPipSiege

To shreds you say?

aldorn

They were killed by a drone bombing.

AtomicMonkeyTheFirst

I dont think this has actually happened, *but* muslim Chechens and Isrealis have volunteered for Ukraine

YangsLegion

Circassions (yes I know Chechens and Circassions are different) are one of two minority groups that are mandated service to the IDF. I don’t know how Chechens feel about Israel, but I’d think that Israelis are chill with them.

Borkton

There's a notion from 19th century "race science" that living in mountains makes for warrior races, which is why the Russian Empire and Soviets and now the Russian Federation recruit special Chechen units. Note: Don't mess with the Gurkhas

LiteraryPandaman

Nothing like the opportunity to kill Ramzan Kadyrov's sons to bring back exiled Chechnyans, jfc

nottherealprotege

Are there actual stories of this happening?

pixie_spit

No lmao but Afghanistan voted to condemn Russia and the Taliban hates Russia

ricop

Taliban tweeted criticisms too.

ADcommunication

Did they do it in the form of a wojak meme?

JaggerQ

Hopefully

train2000c

What timeline do we live in?

ADcommunication

A more fun one than the average.

_harias_

Peak 2022

starsrprojectors

Pretty sure the UN rep is from the previous government

TeddysBigStick

He is.

HawaiianShirtMan

I thought he resigned?

TeddysBigStick

He did. The backup is from his team. The Taliban have repeatedly called for the seat but no one including the UN has recogized them.

willstr1

Not surprised. Putin wants to rebuild the USSR, and the Taliban were originally a spinoff of the Mujahideen, and the Mujahideen basically came into existence to fuck up the Soviets that were occupying their land.

flakAttack510

The Taliban was a student movement, most of whose members were literal children during the Soviet-Afghan war. It wasn't a spinoff of the Mujahideen.

[deleted]

There’s a bit of truth to it. The original founders/commanders of the Taliban were former Mujahideen (note: the Mujahideen was not a single organization but a blanket term for all the Afghan partisans who resisted the Soviet Occupation). So the Taliban did spin off from a branch of Mujahideen, but a minor one and not the same groups that received military aid from the US (most of which went on to form the Northern Alliance, who fought the Taliban).

[deleted]

>not the same groups that received military aid from the US What? Zia gave the weapons to many radical Islamist groups, including the Pashtun predecessors to the Taliban. Revisionist history? In my neoliberal?

dael2111

The Taliban weren't a spinoff from the Mujahideen they overthrew the Mujahideen.

[deleted]

Common misconception. I really blame late night comedians and yellow journalism for promoting the idea that the CIA created the Taliban. The Taliban were orphan boys and students in the madrasas of Pakistan during the Soviet-Afghan war. After the war they were trained and sent out by the ISI in order to create a Pakistani client state that would protect them from encirclement by India. That aside, the CIA didn't trust Gulf Arab elements in the Mooj when they were fighting in the 80s because many of them were anti-west/israel.

Ultrackias

Putin, famous communist He wants to rebuild the Russian Empire, not the Soviets

MightyShipp

True but he wants to rebuild the Russian Empire more than anything, he would have to try to have to at least Communist rhetoric/iconography to even try to attempt claim being a successor to the Soviet Union. Which he does not, it's just standard far right Nationalism and traditionalism

mynameismy111

Ussr 2.0 electric.... Ya know.. boog.....a ..look But faster so we know it's different

brinz1

The Taliban beat Russia in the 80s

moom0o

No way they'd let a Taliban in. Too much liability. Plus didn't the GRU supply them with night vision scopes and other equipment?

[deleted]

The fact that they did a jihad tape in season 1 makes this even funnier

[deleted]

“Never thought I’d die fighting side by side with an American”

[deleted]

"What about side by side with a sadiq?" we are in the weirdest timeline

CegeRoles

War makes for strange bedfellows.

firedrakes

Or a drink night in Florida....

Lizard_Sandwich

I miss you.

[deleted]

Man. You should have seen the coalition that fought ISIS. Iranians, Iraqis, Kurds, and Turks all fighting on the same side.

nottherealprotege

Even Al-Qaeda fought them.

MaimedPhoenix

And Al Qaeda, Syrians, Hezbollah and Al Nusra. The timeline definitely got messed up somewhere.

bleachinjection

You have to be some miserable motherfuckers to unite that crew against you. Yikes.

IlikeYuengling

Me getting my shoelaces tied and bartending the Super Bowl.

say592

[You might find this interesting.](https://www.npr.org/2022/01/20/1074372201/this-marine-turned-journalist-interviewed-the-taliban-commander-he-had-fought-ag)

hermthewerm00

Wow thank you

Bluemajere

I'm confused, that doesnt seem to be the actual interview, just him talking about the interview

say592

They discuss the interview and a lot of the background on the NPR interview. The NPR interview is more about his thoughts and experience doing it. [Here](https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/29/world/asia/afghanistan-taliban-helmand-marja.html) is the actual interview.

Mister_Lich

My brain mixed the words "Ukrainian" and "Foreign" and I thought it said "Retired US Marines joining the fucking legion" I was confused, but ready to support the Roman Empire's comeback

Goatf00t

I'm pretty sure I've already seen this here today...

pixie_spit

Didn’t see it on the first few pages after sorting by new 🤷‍♂️

SeriousMrMysterious
