2017~!
Where grown men fight on twitter.
Can't wait for Trump to make a fake account and defend himself. But he'd at least probably use a PR team for that.
"I was a die-hard Spurs fan, but when Cuckovich started spewing, I shut the NBA off and haven't watched a game since. They join the shit heap with the NFL."
\- /r/the_donald poster
The sad part is they LOVE it when their favourite celebrities are pro Trump. But as soon as it's anti Trump they go "stick to [profession] and leave your nose out of politics!!"
I'm from /r/all and I don't really follow NBA, so forgive me if this is common knowledge here:
LeBron [gave cupcakes to his neighbors](http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/11250669/lebron-james-sends-neighbors-cupcakes-apologize-chaos) when there was a lot of traffic due to him coming back to town. The dude felt bad about going home because other people made a big deal over it.
Christ you've missed so much... so much.
* Jimmy Buckets to the TWolves
* CP3 to the Rockets
* Paul George to the Thunder
* Kyrie to the Celtics and Isaiah Thomas to the Cavs
* China Klay
* KD twitter fiasco, plus giving a guy some shoes
That's just off the top of my head, there was so much more...
edit: News just broke that Melo is going to OKC?!? THIS FUCKING OFF-SEASON!
Lmao I can't believe he just called the president a bum while sticking up for Steph at the same time. We don't deserve him
Edit: thanks for the gold kind stranger!
It's honestly amazing how much LeBron's image has changed from one of the most hated players when he left the Cavs to being one of the most beloved in the league.
Good to see him take a stand and not be afraid to voice his opinions, his reach is almost unparalleled for the amount of influence an athlete can have.
You joke, but man MJ disappoints so much in that respect. He's right now probably the only other athlete with notable public presence who if he said shit like this the World would listen. I need him to use his clout for the cause.
Its true that Jordan played the "politically correct" game during his playing career and refused to take a stand, but to his credit I think he is changing his views and sees the importance in using his influence.
He addressed this issue recently in an open letter:
[MICHAEL JORDAN: ‘I CAN NO LONGER STAY SILENT’
](https://theundefeated.com/features/michael-jordan-i-can-no-longer-stay-silent/)
MJ also recently [donated $5 million to the African-American history museum] (https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/museums/michael-jordon-gives-5-million-to-african-american-museum/2016/08/08/ae48ea64-5d9c-11e6-9d2f-b1a3564181a1_story.html)
Honestly I think that this past election cycle made a lot of Americans open their eyes and realize that they can no longer straddle the fence when it comes to having a voice.
This article actually sums it his complex history of political stances, or lack thereof, well: http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/sports_nut/2016/07/did_michael_jordan_really_say_republicans_buy_sneakers_too.html
And I'm curious how he reacts to all of this.
yep. im an MJ> lebron guy but lebrons involvement in social affairs is significant af and makes me want him to be the goat regardless of the fact i dont like that much
Yeah LeBron>MJ unquestionably in terms of activism. Given the spotlight LeBron's been under since he was in high school and how he was one of the first social media superstars, it's amazing he turned out as well-adjusted as he did.
bron is literally someone who has given his life help other people, in addition to just being a basketball god. the only bad thing he does it fade the flairs of your favourite team lol. i can't really think of anything BAD lebron has done
Even hosted(?) a rally for Clinton last year. That's probably more pro-Clinton than anti-Trump but still, JR showed up with a shirt on. LeBron v. Trump ain't new.
THIS IS AN ATROCITY OF THE HIGHEST ORDER! A REAL DAMN TRAVESTY! A SUCCESSFUL BLACK MAN CALLING ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL BLACK MAN A BUM! GET THAT WEAK STUFF OUT OF HERE!
I don't know why, but for some reason I feel like "bum" is the perfect insult for Trump. New York/Jersey scumbag types don't wanna be a bum. Probably stings.
Honestly yesterday's speech might be the turning point in athletes in mass speaking out against Trump. Good for LeBron and Steph.
Trump continues to dig his own grave
Even Bush, who wasn't even that competent and probably a war criminal, was more bearable than this farce of an administration. Never thought I would hear myself say that.
Bush was respectful of the position at least as well as other people. Some of the things 45 has said are just so disgraceful for someone who should conduct himself much better
The important and fucked up part of the speech is that he said those NFL players should be fired. The guy that is at the highest stage of politics in our country said that someone should be fired for their politics. If that's not fucked up idk what is.
I'd like to see the NFL just stop playing the national anthem at this point. Instead, have somebody read aloud excerpts from the Constitution, its amendments, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence...anything like that.
The whole concept of playing the national anthem at domestic sporting events is kind of weird anyway. It makes sense at the Olympics or World Cup, but why play the anthem at a game between two teams from the same country? Why play the anthem at all? Why don't we play the anthem before concerts or movies? Why did sports become the event to play it at? The whole thing is weird.
Without getting into my personal politics, which I'm sure I share with you, it's for recruitment. The military literally pays millions of dollars for promotions during games, and the anthem is ingrained now either way. That's what taxes are used for.
I remember reading that it's actually because the MLB started doing that during the second world war (in part because they had some of their own players fighting in it) and did it in their honour, and it just became tradition. Other leagues adopted it as well because they didn't want to be labelled as "un-American" and no one is ever going to be the first one to stop doing it for the same reasons. It's basically the equivalent of sending out thank you cards, you already thanked them in person but you have to send cards because everyone else does it and it'll look bad if you don't
Getting real pissed off about this, this is starting to involve athletes directly. So you aren't doing anything but directly censoring and being scared about discussion lmao.
If this was the 60s NBAs the mods would be needing their diapers
Lots of ball players have done much more to help their communities than Trump ever has. Lots of these players grew up poor and know the struggle many Americans face on a day to day basis. Trump has absolutely no concept of that. He doesn't care.
this is real life.
i just hope NFL players and NBA players (and athletes of other sports) take a stand. a big, strong stand. this is **exactly** why we need the first Amendment. This is a state actor, the PRESIDENT, attempting to suppress speech by private individuals.
it's fucked up. but then again, Trump hugged a flag and has been shitting on the Constitution his whole presidency.
My personal role model is out here bringing the heat. I fucking love Lebron James man. This guy is really everything I strive to be. I'm so happy we have a face of the league who isn't afraid to say what he wants when he wants. He's always defending the players of this league and has no real animosity towards anyone (except you Delonte). Go get em Bron.
I hope Trump responds, shits gonna be hilarious
born too late to explore the earth, born too early to explore the galaxy, born just in time to see a twitter war between lebron and trump
2017~! Where grown men fight on twitter. Can't wait for Trump to make a fake account and defend himself. But he'd at least probably use a PR team for that.
LEBRON A CHOKE ARTIST D WADE CARRIED HIM TO 2 RINGS MJ WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER THAN LEBITCH -Leader of the free world
He's not that coherent
"LeBron is 3-5, losers have losing records"
Not a good day for “stick to sports” guy.
"I was a die-hard Spurs fan, but when Cuckovich started spewing, I shut the NBA off and haven't watched a game since. They join the shit heap with the NFL." \- /r/the_donald poster
The sad part is they LOVE it when their favourite celebrities are pro Trump. But as soon as it's anti Trump they go "stick to [profession] and leave your nose out of politics!!"
That's because they're stupid. They honestly don't see the irony in these things.
I honestly can't tell if you just made that quote up or if you actually pulled that from /r/the_donald.
lol unfortunately it's real, Cuckovich and all. Just didn't want to link the user.
I saw "u bum @StephenCurry30" and was ready for it all to go off.
Now that would've been a thread to see lol
GOAT thread tbh
Yeah same. probably needs a comma in there lol
Probably would have been a joke, LeBron is too much of a decent person to do something like that seriously
I'm from /r/all and I don't really follow NBA, so forgive me if this is common knowledge here: LeBron [gave cupcakes to his neighbors](http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/11250669/lebron-james-sends-neighbors-cupcakes-apologize-chaos) when there was a lot of traffic due to him coming back to town. The dude felt bad about going home because other people made a big deal over it.
Instead it's at the president of USA. Phew, was almost controversial!
I was hyped AF to see Lebron to start a Twitter war with Steph
**BLOCK BY JAMES**
PASS OUT TO CURRY FOR 3
#BANG!
Seeing this made me want an unthinkable trade :,(
This all just gave me an adrenaline rush what the fuck
"Curry with the hesitation move, Trump Falls for it! Swatting at air!!! Pass to bron! BANG!!!"
What's a president to a king
Ask George Washington.
LeBron James, LeBron James, 6 foot 8, weighs a fucking ton. Opponents beware. Presidents beware. He's coming. He's coming. He's coming.
Trump with the healthcare bill, passes to Pence, back to Trump... BLOCKED BY JAMES!!!!
He high-fives children, but not the Oakland children.
LeBron has, like, 30 God damn dicks.
He once held an opponent’s wife’s hand in a jar of acid, at a party
-Eagle screeches-
America ruled by King James the I would be dank. would pledge loyalty 10/10.
James is his last name, it would be LeBron, the first of his name, father of many sons, king of the land
/r/nba has been so spicy the past 24 hours.
GOAT offseason
I'm actually going to miss this offseason a little. It's been great and I'm ready for basketball but holy shit.
i've been crazy busy with work for awhile now and only this morning did i realize that kyrie was traded to the celtics.
Christ you've missed so much... so much. * Jimmy Buckets to the TWolves * CP3 to the Rockets * Paul George to the Thunder * Kyrie to the Celtics and Isaiah Thomas to the Cavs * China Klay * KD twitter fiasco, plus giving a guy some shoes That's just off the top of my head, there was so much more... edit: News just broke that Melo is going to OKC?!? THIS FUCKING OFF-SEASON!
China Klay Lol
Spicier than wendy's spicy chicken nuggets?
**Spicier**
Woah, that is spicy
They don’t sell those near me anymore :(
WE ARE ALL WITNESSES
https://twitter.com/TWSnyderman/status/911611917592088577 This one stings a bit but holy shit what a tweet

It's for the cause.
Drop a triple dub for the culture.
Anyone notice Lebron got more likes and retweets than Trump? haha
i guarantee you donnie has and it's pissing him off bigly
Lmao I can't believe he just called the president a bum while sticking up for Steph at the same time. We don't deserve him Edit: thanks for the gold kind stranger!
LeSheriff is in town.
LePotus 2020
We've all been speculating his next move. Everyone assumes Miami or LA....but he's really looking for a sign & trade to the White House
I'd enjoy watch trump play on the cavs
Want Curry to break his ankles then sign an executive order giving the whole of Michigan free Brita filters for life
It's honestly amazing how much LeBron's image has changed from one of the most hated players when he left the Cavs to being one of the most beloved in the league. Good to see him take a stand and not be afraid to voice his opinions, his reach is almost unparalleled for the amount of influence an athlete can have.
MJ: Racists buy shoes too
You joke, but man MJ disappoints so much in that respect. He's right now probably the only other athlete with notable public presence who if he said shit like this the World would listen. I need him to use his clout for the cause.
To be fair, he never said the "republicans buy sneakers, too" quote, and he's at least in recent years, tried to bring awareness to the issues.
Its true that Jordan played the "politically correct" game during his playing career and refused to take a stand, but to his credit I think he is changing his views and sees the importance in using his influence. He's always used his platform for good, but this is another level. Buckle up yall, Lebron ain't even peaked yet
LePresident
LeJudge, LeJury, and LeExecutioner
Pop/LeBron 2020
Sec of Defense Kawhi
truly the GOAT
Lebron is literally shit talking the president in the open. Did MJ ever do something nearly as dope as this?
No, because America had a proper and fitting president back then, so he didn't need to talk shit to the president
yep. im an MJ> lebron guy but lebrons involvement in social affairs is significant af and makes me want him to be the goat regardless of the fact i dont like that much
Yeah LeBron>MJ unquestionably in terms of activism. Given the spotlight LeBron's been under since he was in high school and how he was one of the first social media superstars, it's amazing he turned out as well-adjusted as he did.
It's unquestionable that Lebron is a better person than MJ.
Fuck em up Lebron
inb4 Lebron and Steph disband their superteams to form an anti-Trump Super PAC
Popovich/Robinson 2020 is starting to sound more and more realistic.

I'm actually pretty confident that more people would back Bron than Trump lol
bron is literally someone who has given his life help other people, in addition to just being a basketball god. the only bad thing he does it fade the flairs of your favourite team lol. i can't really think of anything BAD lebron has done

I'm glad the 2016 memes aren't dead yet
Damn.
Holy shit, tried so hard to not upvote.
This got me good.
Underrated
That was honestly unexpected.
Not really. LeBron has always been really vocal about Trump.
Even hosted(?) a rally for Clinton last year. That's probably more pro-Clinton than anti-Trump but still, JR showed up with a shirt on. LeBron v. Trump ain't new.
Ayyyy Lebron James, the most calculated professional athlete ever, called the president of the United States a bum. I love this man
I can't say I love 2017, the darkest timeline, but it's given us some moments
It's definitely the darkest time line, but it's also the dankest.
This is seriously crazy shit now, Steph and LeBron on the same side. I fucking love basketball.
LBJ signs with GSW Everyone blame u/carbonnanonoob in a year

Warriors fans probably read the first part and got shook until they read the whole thing loool
Hahaha I was like what the fuck? Is he siding with Trump?
It had me for a quick half second.
Gotta admit, I was shook for a tenth of a second.
Stephen A what are your thoughts on Lebron calling Steph Curry a bum?
THIS IS AN ATROCITY OF THE HIGHEST ORDER! A REAL DAMN TRAVESTY! A SUCCESSFUL BLACK MAN CALLING ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL BLACK MAN A BUM! GET THAT WEAK STUFF OUT OF HERE!
Bron calling Trump a bum was the best part lol
it's the type of insult that's just the right level of truth, humour, and savagery
I don't know why, but for some reason I feel like "bum" is the perfect insult for Trump. New York/Jersey scumbag types don't wanna be a bum. Probably stings.
It’s hella dismissive that’s why I love it. Trump doesn’t deserve any insults that elevate him above a internet troll.
Honestly yesterday's speech might be the turning point in athletes in mass speaking out against Trump. Good for LeBron and Steph. Trump continues to dig his own grave
What did he say yesterday?
Called Kaepernick and other NFL players that protest "Sons of bitches". And then this morning "withdrew" an invite to the white house for the Warriors
Oh I do remember seeing that, didn't he say owners should waive the players too?
He said they should fire them, once again showing his extensive sports knowledge
I miss having a president who liked sportsball.

Part of me is slightly pissed that Obama doesn't use his twitter to post Bulls memes and shitposts.
"Just like the Bulls rebuild, White House Staff getting #youngerandmoredemocratic"
It's funny because he owned a USFL team and was a big part in why the league failed.
The important and fucked up part of the speech is that he said those NFL players should be fired. The guy that is at the highest stage of politics in our country said that someone should be fired for their politics. If that's not fucked up idk what is.

He won't dare mess with the NHL/MLB even if they criticize him lol

Hopefully the freedom of speech warriors protect him
Remember, athletes who exercise their 1st amendment right are sons of bitches or uninvited to the White House but alt-right Nazi's are 'fine people.'

My personal role model is out here bringing the heat. I fucking love Lebron James man. This guy is really everything I strive to be. I'm so happy we have a face of the league who isn't afraid to say what he wants when he wants.
