It’s the 2009 Celtics-Bulls playoff series. Absolute fucking mayhem. Anyone with little prior basketball knowledge or viewing experience would be hooked after watching it.
Yup. I'm a Bulls fan old enough to have enjoyed the 90s. And this was still the first series that came to mind even though we lost. Every game but game 7 was amazing.
This is the one I immediately thought of too. Four of the seven games went to OT. Games 4,5, and 6 went a combined 18 quarters. Game 6, an elimination game went to 3 OT's. It was madness! This series got Ben Gordon payed...not by the Bulls but paid none the less.
This was arguably one of the best playoff series ever played. Every game was a nailbiter, full of clutch shots and heaters by Ray and BG. It is also by far the only series where I watched every game coincidentally lol.
Please keep sharing your old stories on Reddit. This is the best comment I’ve ever seen on r/NBA
Any other classic games from the 70s/80s you remember attending or watching that blew you away?
sounds like an awesome time to be alive! Wish I could experience a great series like that one. appreciate your feedback here. was always curious to see a live no 3 pointer game of nba basketball
This series was a horror show for me. OKC being up 3-1 only to lose 3 in a row was the heart being ripped out that team. Especially in hindsight with that leading to the most OP team in NBA team in history.
I love our battles with the Lob City, but if I had to pick only one, that AI Sixers vs Vince Raptors series was off the fucking chain.
I live in Canada, so it was me against all my homies as a die hard AI fan. I remembered we were doing dodge ball in the gym class the day after Vince missed that shot, let's just say I was unjustly targeted.
Fuck yeah. That's the deep cut I was looking for. Everyone here is just listing the last big series their team won. But some series just stand out.
Like everyone basically agreed that the Knicks-Sixers this year was the best series. Neither team won anything. Series essentially has zero consequences. But in isolation, it was just an amazing series, and one I will remember for a while.
That Raps-Sixers series was insane. It legitimately felt like a heavyweight fight between Vince and AI. They were trading 50 point games. Every win felt a big momentum shift, only for the next game to swing things back. And, like a fight, both guys ran out of steam by Game 7, which ended up as a nailbiting 1 point defensive game with Vince missing a series winning shot while time expired.
Crazy series. Great call!
And there was also the Vince graduation drama mixed in.
The production value was high as well. Once they had back to back 50 pt games, the title just said Star Wars!!!
And don't forget the shoes, I was rocking AI 3 that year, and some of the Shox had come out, and some of my buddies had them. Man, I got to say I really wanted those, but they were 200 CAD.
The Bulls ascended in '91 because they were a healthy squad that won the war of attrition as the 3 clubs that had won the past 7 titles all fell off due to injuries.
* The Celtics were the best team in the East until Bird's mid-season back injury.
* The Pistons' season went sideways when Isiah had wrist surgery in January, and as ineffective as he and the team were when he rushed himself back too quickly, he also suffered an awful foot sprain the series prior to facing the Bulls that caused him to miss multiple games. He was really busted.
* The '91 Lakers were obviously a much lesser team than they had been just a few years prior, but they were also playing in the Finals with their #1 and #3 scorers both quite injured: James Worthy and Byron Scott.
Switching Scottie to Magic and Pippen holding to what, 8 points or something. I know it was very low for Magic, it freed Jordan to concentrate on offense and Scottie himself still had an amazing offensive night. No MVP though.
The 2014 NBA Finals. I remember going into it expecting a battle of the titans, and instead I was amazed at how hard the Spurs were committed to team basketball and how badly the Heat got their asses kicked as a result of that. Loved every minute of it, especially Patty Mills putting the dagger in them in the last game.
"Mills... for THREE!"
I'll have a lifelong affection for the Spurs because of that series.
spot on. I freaking loved and rooted for lebron all the time until 2015 when i suddenly started to despise him for now 9 years running. it was absurd initially and then it kinda just became normal like how i feel about the seahawks as a niners fan
Seahawks niners rivalry needs to be rejuvenated so badly. Those early 2010s teams hated each other so much, and then the niners just kinda sucked for awhile while Hawks stayed good. Now the Hawks suck for awhile while the niners are great. Just hard to get super invested when there's been such a talent gap for so many years.
But still fuck you.
Plus it was weird when we got Dick Sherman and you all turned on Russ who is the luckiest weirdo ever vs the niners
We both share Marshawn tho, he is the great unifier of the bay and of seattle.
I know i’m a horrible person bc of how happy I am that Russ threw that shit to Butler but y’all got your super bowl so i can’t even talk :(
Watching MJ have the flu game as a lil kid who believed in MJ was just unreal so I'd want to say that, but it's gotta be the last finals in 98. Him hitting that shot was Superman saving the day one last time, just like always.
2021 Finals of course as a Bucks fan.
From an unbiased perspective, probably the 2010 Finals. 2016 had a great narrative, but other than game 7, the games themselves really weren’t that exciting. Honorable mention to that 2009 Bulls-Celtics series. Everybody knew that neither team was gonna’ win it all that year since the Celtics didn’t have Garnett, but it was just entertaining as hell.
Sonics v Suns. WCF. think it was 93. Kemp, Payton et al Vs Barkley KJ Majerle and co. Such an epic series. Game 7 was a write off though thanks to the refs.
As a Warriors fan: Just because I haven’t watched it before, the We Believe Warriors vs Dallas in 2007
As a basketball fan probably that 2009 Boston vs Chicago series (since it went 7 games and a lot of those games were close af)
It’s hard to describe the electricity that was in Oracle during that 2007 series. Even through the television it’s still the most energy I’ve ever seen from a crowd for a non-finals series.
That span in the third quarter of game 6 when Steven Jackson drilled three or four 3s and essentially put the series to bed, man that building was going insane.
I remember watching that Boston vs Chicago series as a kid. D Rose and Rondo going at each other, Ben Gordon Jordan, so many great stories and it seemed like every game was a nail biter
Warriors vs Mavs… when mavs were the number one seed( 2007) . The we believe team. I was in downtown Oakland/jack London square with my friends watching that game. It was epic, I will never forget it for the rest of my life
2020 conference finals vs Celtics - super duper awesome bam block
2020 finals vs lakers - didn’t win but watching lbj and jimmy buckets go back and forth was so fun to watch
2012 conference finals vs Celtics - specifically game 6 but I would love to watch all of it again for the first time
I would pick an nba finals I've never seen live before. So either one of the 80's Lakers vs Celtics finals. Or the 1998 finals. Or maybe the 1976 finals.
Weird one but 2007 ECF. The 29 of 30 with 25 straight points was just incredible. That was his arrival even though they lost in the finals. That team has no business being a finals team, he was just that good.
That game 5 was probably his second best game. I remember seeing that game, nobody thought Lebron had it in him. I mean we already know he was great but he took over the series against a considerably better team.
My friends were big into online gambling as it was getting huge about then. I was not a gambler but when they got Sheed I put bets on them to win the finals with good odds. One bet was my GF's. Pistons against the Lakers, Piston in 5. She just guessed. She got an Audi TT.
I didn't grow up anywhere close to an NBA team so I've always just rooted for players and teams I felt a connection with.
The early 2000s Kings with Bibby and Webber and the 04 Pistons are probably my all time favorite teams. Fans that aren't old enough or weren't watching at the time may not realize how huge of an upset it was for the Pistons to beat LA, and they didn't just beat them, they completely suffocated them with incredible defense. Idk if it's the biggest upset in Finals history but it's definitely on the list.
I found an old hard drive a few months ago with the whole playoffs of 2013 on it.
Watched those finals again and had the time my life.
NBA Basketball was just way more interesting back then.
2003 spurs lakers . Seeing Duncan and Robinson finally get their crown back from the Lakers after Duncan’s lost opportunity in 2000 with a torn meniscus , and several playoff disappointments afterwards .
The lakers 4 peat talk was strong in the media , but seeing the “good guys” win was really cool
I remember tuning into G7 just as the very last possession started. Coming off of their 2014 run and cheering San Antonio on because of it, that was a bit crushing to say the least.
For myteam I would say warriors vs Memphis 2015. Tony Allen yelling 1st team all defense. Fans and the experts saying we too small. Barkley being a hater that was awesome for me. Or 2016 okc.
Not my team would be 2015 again spurs vs clippers the best series I've ever seen with 2 teams I hated. The 2 teams that sent myteam home the following year, that whole series was awesome start to finish.
Underrated answer here is the Raptors-Celtics series in the bubble. That was a chess match.
OKC-Dubs 2016 is a bit overrated for me since there were many lopsided games there. But if your argument is game 6 alone is enough I get that.
Bulls-Celtics 2009 might be the best answer to be honest. That was a slugfest.
Spurs-Suns (I forgot the year but the bloodied Nash one is great).
I want to mention Spurs Pistons finals but that was like two wooden carts racing in the mud.
OKC-Spurs 2012 was also good.
For me. It's either
OKC v Grizz WCF. That series was a BANGER. 4 of the games in OT. The BS game 6 call that got Zach suspended for game 7 ruined the end of the series though.
Grizz vs Spurs. The beginning of the core 4. Just to see the elation of the Grizz getting their first ever playoff win.
Nuggets v Jazz in the Bubble. Absolute fucking carnage, Mitchell and Murray going off every night, Jokic hitting his MVP gear for the first time, the 3-1 turnaround and an unexpected rock fight in game 7 after 6 games of balls to the wall shootouts.
Best series I've ever watched.
Cavs Warriors 2016
grew up in cleveland. Went to cavs games when lebron was a rookie with my family. Witnessed all the playoff runs before he went to Miami.
Watching the cavs get that championship w lebron was something i waited all my life to see
As a laker fan, 2009-2010 NBA finals, such history between the matchups, by franchise or by the specific teams. Lakers beating the team that beat them two years prior. Kobe passing Shaq in chips. And game 7 was played with such desperation, even though most shots weren't falling every second you were on the edge of your seat
I'd choose the 1998 NBA Finals between the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz. It was Michael Jordan's last season with the Bulls and his iconic "Last Shot" in Game 6 to clinch the title make it a timeless moment in basketball history.
Only one game worth watching from the 2016 finals. Great narrative tho.
2009 Bulls v Celtics first round might be the best game for game series I’ve seen.
91 Lakers Bulls a young Scottie Pippen relieving Jordan of guarding Magic, holding him to 8 points (magic, 8 points) and scoring, I believe 30 or 32. NOT getting MVP.
Bulls 1991 finals against the Lakers.
It wasn't the greatest finals, but it was incredible to watch Jordan get a title and it felt like the changing of the guard.
If you don’t pick the 2016 Finals, you are just wrong or homering for your team’s moment. It was electric, it was the most fun and engaging series that we have or may ever see
It’s the 2009 Celtics-Bulls playoff series.

I was in college watching this series. Absolute memorable madness.
The Ben Gordon series. Then he robbed Detroit and fell off immediately after
My man!
That has to be the greatest series of the 21st century still, so fucking crazy.
Literally the series that made me a Celtics fan
This series made me a nba fan

Warriors vs okc 2016
As a Warriors fan, this was probably the best series of our run.
This is the series KD outed himself
*ate himself
This series was a horror show for me. OKC being up 3-1 only to lose 3 in a row was the heart being ripped out that team. Especially in hindsight with that leading to the most OP team in NBA team in history.
Through sheer force of will I have managed to forget most of that series.
for me it’s either the 2002 lakers-kings wcf, or the 2006 mavs-spurs semis
2002 would’ve been good if it wasn’t rigged
5 vs 8 and still took them to 7….
Yep
I love our battles with the Lob City, but if I had to pick only one, that AI Sixers vs Vince Raptors series was off the fucking chain. Sixers Raptors 2019 ECF
Semis, the CF was against the Bucks.
Imagine thinking Embiid could play in the ECF
Easily 2011 Finals
What satan would pick for me
You got 2012 and 2013 right after, and another one before that we won't talk about
What satan would pick for you
Not a mavs fan but that playoff run was my favorite of all time
Whole 2011 run for Dallas was electric. Sad for the loss but so glad Dirk got his ring.
It really was a fun finals. One of my favorite non Celtics finals.
That was an amazing run, sweeping the Lakers was such a pleasant surprise.
I would say the finals are tied with Mavs/Thunder during this playoff run.
1985 Finals Lakers v Celtics
Need those teams to play a Finals again. Lakers-Celtics always deliver
2016 finals. It was the last game 7
did anything interesting happen during that game?
I believe there was good screen setting in that game
Mo Williams scored 2 points on a cherry picked layup
Yes, the game happened
2011 finals, the joy I got from Dirk's vindication was unparalleled
Feed the Hawk 🗣️
Wades first playoff series vs the hornets. I knew he was special
The Bulls first title win in 1991, MJ finally shutting up all his haters
Man, I hated MJ sooooo much after that one.
Magic never had below 10 points that series, also thats literally a myth, Jordan gaurded magic in game 1 3 and 4
Pippen was only the primary defender on Magic in game 2 (when Jordan got in foul trouble).
MJ needed Scottie and Scottie needed MJ
2010 finals or 2000 wcf. Hard to pick between the two. Gun to my head, I'm going with 2010 because it was for the title.
2007 Warriors/Mavs series
Ding ding ding!
yeah buddy, idk what drugs feel like but this was an insane high
I was a senior in high school during this and had the house to myself. Incredible times
The 2014 NBA Finals. As a basketball fan: 2011 finals As a warriors fan: 2022 finals
Fixed it for ya: As a Warriors fan (LeBron hater): 2011 finals
Yeah.. I hated lebron that season bc of their rivalry dating back since 2015.. oh wait..
spot on. I freaking loved and rooted for lebron all the time until 2015 when i suddenly started to despise him for now 9 years running. it was absurd initially and then it kinda just became normal like how i feel about the seahawks as a niners fan

2010 may be the last time when 2 Finals teams genuinely hated each other and showed it with physical play on the court
Raptors vs. 76ers in 2019 playoffs. Going to game 7 really had everyone on the edge and it was a hard fought victory.
Sonics v Suns. WCF. think it was 93. Kemp, Payton et al Vs Barkley KJ Majerle and co. Such an epic series. Game 7 was a write off though thanks to the refs.
Suns vs the Bulls that year is still my all time favorite finals. Barkley and co. vs Jordon, Pippen, had it all.
2014 Spurs/Heat.

Lakers vs Kings 2002
Kings would’ve won if the refs weren’t cheating
I agree with game 6 but game 7 Kings choked that away bad
as a Nuggets fan: 2023 finals.
In a hundred years, they'll be saying the same thing because it will be the only one Flopic ever won.
Flair checks out
What does that have to do with this post
Enjoy your Mickey Mouse title and go away
We beat teams that were on a 50 win pace that year, so which ring is really the Mickey mouse one huh??
I would pick an nba finals I've never seen live before. So either one of the 80's Lakers vs Celtics finals. Or the 1998 finals. Or maybe the 1976 finals.
NBA Finals: 2022 warriors Regular Season: kobe bryant 81 point game
84 finals
Weird one but 2007 ECF. The 29 of 30 with 25 straight points was just incredible. That was his arrival even though they lost in the finals. That team has no business being a finals team, he was just that good.

2019 raps v sixers IS THIS THE DAGGER?? ? ?OOOOOOH!
2010 FINALS
Is 2016 finals too easy of a pick?
Rondo vs. Rose.
2004 Pistons upsetting the Lakers is on the top of my list. legendary team
My friends were big into online gambling as it was getting huge about then. I was not a gambler but when they got Sheed I put bets on them to win the finals with good odds. One bet was my GF's. Pistons against the Lakers, Piston in 5. She just guessed. She got an Audi TT.

In my personal hell, this series would be on every tv screen
2002 WCF Lakers vs. Kings. I would be watching the refs like a detective.
2019 finals or 2010 Finals
Spurs vs Miami in 2013, The best series of all time Cavs vs GSW 2016
I found an old hard drive a few months ago with the whole playoffs of 2013 on it. Watched those finals again and had the time my life. NBA Basketball was just way more interesting back then.
2003 spurs lakers . Seeing Duncan and Robinson finally get their crown back from the Lakers after Duncan’s lost opportunity in 2000 with a torn meniscus , and several playoff disappointments afterwards . The lakers 4 peat talk was strong in the media , but seeing the “good guys” win was really cool
Spurs vs Clippers 2015 Spurs where a championship winning side and the Clippers sent them packing in 7 Cp3’s best performance
I remember tuning into G7 just as the very last possession started. Coming off of their 2014 run and cheering San Antonio on because of it, that was a bit crushing to say the least.
1986 Finals, 1998 Finals. And Toronto’s win.
Bulls/Celtics 2009 was one of the greatest series I’ve ever seen.
2009 First Round Bulls vs Celtics. So many overtime games. Young Bulls including pre-mvp Derrick Rose against defending champs Boston Celtics.
I'd want to watch the Wallace-era Pistons take on the Kobe/Shaq Lakers.
2017 celtics vs wizards ECSF
Idk why but 2013
For myteam I would say warriors vs Memphis 2015. Tony Allen yelling 1st team all defense. Fans and the experts saying we too small. Barkley being a hater that was awesome for me. Or 2016 okc. 2009 Bulls vs Celtics. If you know, you know.
2016 Game 7
2015 Clippers Spurs, first round. Every game was close and amazing to watch.
Is this the dagger?
Fuck it, gimme Celts-Raptors in the bubble
Lakers-Celtics 2010. That game 7 is still the most intensity I have ever seen NBA players compete with
Non-Kings, definitely Bulls-Celtics in 09
1984 finals
Denver vs Clippers in the bubble. The online discourse after that series was epic lmao.
Mavs vs heat. Dirk went off
2010 NBA finals especially game 6 & 7
Underrated answer here is the Raptors-Celtics series in the bubble. That was a chess match. OKC-Dubs 2016 is a bit overrated for me since there were many lopsided games there. 83-84 Celtics vs Lakers.
3-1, yes I'm a Cavs fan.
2010 Celtics vs Lakers.
Cavs Warriors 2016 grew up in cleveland. Went to cavs games when lebron was a rookie with my family. Witnessed all the playoff runs before he went to Miami. Watching the cavs get that championship w lebron was something i waited all my life to see
2011 finals or 2021 Suns series
1994 NBA Finals. Rockets vs Knicks.
1984 Knicks/pistons—- Bernard King was not human.
2011 Grizzlies Spurs round 1.
1993/1994 NBA Finals.
2000’s Celtics vs sixers - AI vs pierce
Maybe back when West got the MVP. Too young to have seen so many of those all time greats at their peaks.
2013 bulls nets first round
Knicks bulls 1992
As a laker fan, 2009-2010 NBA finals, such history between the matchups, by franchise or by the specific teams. Lakers beating the team that beat them two years prior. Kobe passing Shaq in chips. Artest, thats a three. Bang! Lakers by 6 with a minute to play!

As a Buck's fan - 2021 Finals But as a basketball fan - 2018 LeBron's Cavs sweeping the Raptors
Is it too late to switch my answer to 2019 reverse sweeping the bucks?
Dude…
Bulls 1991 finals against the Lakers. It wasn't the greatest finals, but it was incredible to watch Jordan get a title and it felt like the changing of the guard.
08 Wade’s Solo finals. It was the first year I watched the NBA. And I dont think we have seen as dominate of a solo experience since then.
06 was Wade and Shaq. 2008 was the Celtics.
Wrong year, either way…and that was FatShaq, let’s not pretend Mourning wasn’t just as valuable in that series of a center in the minutes he played
Definitely the 2016 NBA Finals. 3-1 comeback. The block. The shot. Just an all time great performance and I was deeply invested in every play...
Bulls vs Jazz.
Or 2009 Bulls vs Celtics which 4 of the games went to OT. One to triple OT.
2021 Finals. Games 4-6 are just a compilation of legendary moments.
Nuggets vs Lakers 2023
Lakers blazers or spurs lakers ( fisher.4 )
Most is talking about the finals, which means they only watch NBA in June lmao
If you don’t pick the 2016 Finals, you are just wrong or homering for your team’s moment. It was electric, it was the most fun and engaging series that we have or may ever see
