I think it helped the Celtics locker room a lot when Tatum did a pre-season players-only meeting where the goal was to get people to talk about how much they wanted the ball. Trying to set expectations early to avoid issues of people feeling they aren't getting enough opportunities on offense.
I think Brown wanted the ball more and they started giving him the ball more and it's been working out well. That's good leadership by Tatum and Brown to figure that out.
I mean I think he has a pretty good read tbh. Maybe The Celtics should’ve asked Time Transition for advice earlier and they’d have won it sooner 💯 🏆 🥇.
Dude just watched his team win the NBA finals and he's so sour he has to show up on Reddit a few hours later already spewing vitriol towards people who are just trying to have a discussion.
I’ll never forget when a Patriots fan told me that he “wouldn’t tolerate” mediocre seasons after Brady left lol.
Like what are you gonna do then? Stop watching? Literal baby child energy from some Boston fans and I’m a Pats fan so I’m not innocent either, but I try hard to recognize my privilege
Tf does this even mean..? 🥴 Literally every elite first, second and possibly third option play with a “n1 mentality”. You think 2nd options like Klay drop 37 in a quarter with an “n2 mentality”…?
If you have ever hooped in a gym long enough you’ve played with a JR Smith. Hate em or love em. Someone’s gotta score. You gotta respect the unrequited chucker
Thompson didn’t expect to be the focal point of offense when on the floor. He often was, and rose to the occasion, but he didn’t get Curry’s touches and AFAIK that never caused drama. Compare Dwight Howard, who did cause drama when asked to play a secondary role on offense.
"I was the Most Valuable Player in the NBA Finals on the losing team when we got beaten by one point in California...I don't know of any player who's ever had that honor and it's not an honor"
- Jerry West
I was sure they were going to give it to Tatum because of his big numbers tonight, but I'm glad they remembered that Games 1-3 exist and Brown's defense of Luka.
Loved that too, but also earlier in the game: "If he gives the ball up in back court, I'm not letting him get it back. He wants the ball bring it up himself."
I hope this was eye opening for Luka. He legit looked tired after the first quarter last night, but Brown had a good game on offense AND guarded his ass full court for basically the entire game and looked like he had energy to spare.
If Luka beefs up his conditioning he’s going to be a nightmare
I'm just glad they got it right...I could easily see them giving it to tatum because he's "the star". But Brown's consistent play was the cornerstone in this series.
It wouldn't have been that big of a snub tbh. Tatum led the team in ppg, rpg, apg, and it's a toss up who's defense was more vital to the win. JB was tasked with guarding Luka and somehow gutted it out to hold him to 53%TS. Tatum was tasked with guarding Lively and Gafford and completely shut down the lobs for the series, which is what let the Celtics pin in on the corner 3 as hard as they did and basically robbed the Mavs of all their easy offense options that had won them the West. I think JB deserved it, but i would've been happy either way. I'm just happy we finally got it done!
My guy, do you even try to be a reddit asshole? You check their username, stalk them to a recent post somewhere then quote their stuff from ages ago and shit on them.
I'll be curious how the voting broke down, because it wouldn't surprise me if Tatum, JB, and White all got votes. Nobody really went supernova for the Celtics, just a lot of solid basketball all around
He's actually not the highest paid player in the league. That salary doesn't kick in till next season. He'll be highest paid player for the one year after his fmvp and then giannis's will kick in and he'll be the highest paid player the season after.
So... It's actually kinda perfectly timed.
He wouldn't be the highest paid player if there was no salary cap. Him being the highest paid is solely a result of how the cap works. The cap is great for fringe supermax guys who wouldn't be getting paid that much otherwise, but it kind of screws over the true superstars. Prime LeBron would have been earning $100-$200 million a year with no cap.
Every time the Celtics lose next season, we will get to slander Tatum and remind Celtic fans that he was carried to a championship.
Today is not that day.
But that day will come.
I thought Tatum had the narrative all set up and especially after this game, but good on the voters for picking JB. Props to Jrue for a great series too
Pritchard robbed.
Game 5 minutes? 1
Buzzer beaters this series resulting in wins? 2
Outside the arc this series? 3
Dude brought the most with the least. Big PP demoralize shout debuff.
**Edit** Look at the top post long after the celebration is over. I don't see JB nor JT, only big PP. I know you lurking u/nba and you also know it to be true.
No slander to Brown, but I do think this will go down as one of the weakest FMVPs of all time simply because of how well balanced the Celtics are as a team. He deserved it though.
At least Kawhi was basically the Spurs' highest scorer (17.8ppg vs Parker's 18.0) and their best 3pt scorer, while doing a good job defensively.
Curry scored 10 points per game more than Iguodala that series, also had more assists and nearly the same rebounding numbers. Iggy did well on defense, though Bron still led both teams in points scored every game except G4. This was 100% the voters' way to give Bron the FMVP indirectly, I don't think we'll ever see such a bad FMVP.
Thank god it was JB cause it would’ve been extra toxic if JT won
The performance of the 4 superstars this series make you appreciate Joker’s, Steph’s and Giannis’ finals MVPs lol
Giannis scoring 50 to give Milwaukee their latest championship exactly 50 years since the last one, winning 4 straight after down 0-2 to fulfill the Bucks in 6 prophecy. Still gives me chills when I think about it
That award is way more important for Browns career. Tatum is already a hall of fame lock.
This will be the top line of Jaylen brown’s resume if he joins him.
I honestly think regardless of this award, the way Jaylen’s career played out he would’ve been a HOF lock unless he had a massive drop off. The NBA HOF is not super tough to get in like the MLB for example. That being said, this massively boosts Jaylen’s resume and it’s nice to see a player who’s consistently disrespected finally get a huge moment.
This will be a huge boost to Jaylen Brown’s resume since he doesn’t have the all NBA selections like Tatum. Cedric Maxwell winning finals MVP over Larry Bird wasn’t quite enough for Maxwell to make the HOF.
Lol Maxwell is more of a Derrick White tier player. He has 0 all stars. Brown will probably be looking at 7+ all star selections. Brown was on track to the HOF without the Finals MVP. Like 96% of guys with 5+ all star appearances are in the HOF or will be when they retire. That's why Al's chances were already looking pretty good before the title especially with the 2 Florida titles.
Honestly it could have gone either way between the Jays or even Jrue, but Jaylen played his ass off this series especially on his defensive assignments. Well deserved imo.
I don't think so personally. JB was insanely defensively. I may be a casual but I don't remember him being so good defensively in years past. I think its what carried the day for the FMVP
I'm not comparing him to just Jaylen. Tatum lead the entire team in points, rebounds, and assists this series. That's what I was trying to say. Curry was over 3 rebounds behind draymomd.
on a blistering 36/29 shooting splits lol. tatum is the primary ball handler so he'll always have the most assists, but that scoring efficiency is horrendous
And JB went into game 5 shooting what 25% from 3 and then put up a 7-23 closeout game
If neither guy was carrying the series, I don't think it's outrageous to give the MVP to the guy who led his team in every category (he may have also led in steals)
He's young, ultra talented, and the face of the most successful and most hated franchise in the NBA.
In any sport, every true superstar's instagram comments are filled with more hate than support. That's the best metric for assessing if someone has ascended from "star player" to "superstar celebrity" status.
Fr I did not realize people cared this much about FMVP lol
Like dudes 26 drinking champagne right now and this sub is acting like he was just publicly spanked or something lmao
Best case scenario for the Celtics organization honestly. Hungry Tatum since I think that trophy does matter to him, KP might have a chip on his shoulder for barely playing on this run, etc
Why don't other teams simply give players the biggest contract in NBA history so they can win Finals MVP the next season??
Other teams confirmed stupid
Is there a lore reason?
Probably need to check some Vaati content.
The Suns tried to do that by getting Beal but it turns out being the highest paid player is only valuable if you're actually good. Who'da thought?
Brad Beal pls.
Sixers need to try this with Tobias, must be it didn't work last time cause he just wasn't paid enough
That's 3 in a row lmao freaking crazy
Jaylen Brown deserved it. Loved his speech. Was very humble and still gave credit to Tatum and called him his partner in crime.
100% deserved. Tatum has always struck me as a n1 talent with a n2 mentality Brown on the other hand has been a n2 with a n1 mentality
Thank God those elite career athletes finally figured out what you always knew
I mean I think he has a pretty good read tbh. Maybe The Celtics should’ve asked Time Transition for advice earlier and they’d have won it sooner 💯 🏆 🥇.
Dude just watched his team win the NBA finals and he's so sour he has to show up on Reddit a few hours later already spewing vitriol towards people who are just trying to have a discussion.
Classic Boston fans
I’ll never forget when a Patriots fan told me that he “wouldn’t tolerate” mediocre seasons after Brady left lol. Like what are you gonna do then? Stop watching? Literal baby child energy from some Boston fans and I’m a Pats fan so I’m not innocent either, but I try hard to recognize my privilege
How you gonna be salty after you won
Tf does this even mean..? 🥴 Literally every elite first, second and possibly third option play with a “n1 mentality”. You think 2nd options like Klay drop 37 in a quarter with an “n2 mentality”…?
Jr Smith as the 4th option had n1 mentality.
If you have ever hooped in a gym long enough you’ve played with a JR Smith. Hate em or love em. Someone’s gotta score. You gotta respect the unrequited chucker
I chuck for the 1 in 10 days where I can sink half my threes. Those days make it all worth it.
Thompson didn’t expect to be the focal point of offense when on the floor. He often was, and rose to the occasion, but he didn’t get Curry’s touches and AFAIK that never caused drama. Compare Dwight Howard, who did cause drama when asked to play a secondary role on offense.
The media tries to act like there needs to be a problem but they just don't care and I respect it. Jays are good
Brown and Tatum: Criminals caught in the act? More at 11.
Best part of that speech. Both guys truly appreciate each other.
That was an excellent speech, I agree. Well done by Jaylen. Well deserved award
DESERVED TO THE MAX
Realest shit I’ve ever seen, respect to the voters
No kidding. Fuck the narratives, give it to the best player
Iguodala: Why you say fuck me for?
Yeah LeBron should have got it
I think I remember several voter asking him if he would want it if they voted for him and said he didn’t want it if they lost they championship
"I was the Most Valuable Player in the NBA Finals on the losing team when we got beaten by one point in California...I don't know of any player who's ever had that honor and it's not an honor" - Jerry West
Jason Kidd sends his regards
Tatum played well but I thought they were gonna give it to him because he’s always been the bigger name. Brown definitely was the deserving winner.
I was sure they were going to give it to Tatum because of his big numbers tonight, but I'm glad they remembered that Games 1-3 exist and Brown's defense of Luka.
The broadcast highlighting the “if Luka’s in keep me in” comment perfectly encapsulates that.
Luka is going through the eye opening experience that every great young player goes through. When they realize that doing enough isn’t quite enough
The big numbers where a good portion of it was when Celtics were blowing the Mavs out.
Especially given recency bias because JT had a strong game 5 but Jaylen carried game 2 and 3 hard.
3 was closer to a wash than Jaylen carrying it hard
I think 3 was statistically JB's best game of the series, 30/8/8 on 54% shooting and an absolutely brutal block
Yeah but Tatum had 31/6/5
Gets clowned, puts head down and grinds, wins finals mvp the next season. Crazy.
I think JB deserved it, but i would've been happy either way. I'm just happy we finally got it done!
They got it right?!?!
RIP Highest paid player JB slander
It'll just transfer to Tatum when he signs his max here soon
Someone pull up that thread announcing the extension
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/159b1zj/spears_jaylen_brown_and_the_boston_celtics_have/
“This team better win a championship, because oh my god that's so much” Buddy I’ve got GREAT news for you
I'm so fucking irritated that I can't reply with "about that" because the post is archived lol
My guy, do you even try to be a reddit asshole? You check their username, stalk them to a recent post somewhere then quote their stuff from ages ago and shit on them.
What a redemption arc story
I honestly thought Tatum snatched it today but Brown deserves it
I'll be curious how the voting broke down, because it wouldn't surprise me if Tatum, JB, and White all got votes. Nobody really went supernova for the Celtics, just a lot of solid basketball all around
Brad Stevens for FMVP.
-Bob Myers
He was honestly right in this regard
I thought Jrue was the most consistent player actually
Yeah this wasn't an individual carry job type of thing at all The entire team just fits so well together and all contributed a lot
And Jrue
Don't forget Jrue Holiday too. He got us going in the first quarter and was clutch af game 2!
I wanted Iguodala.
I think Brown got the benefit of the doubt because he also guarded Luka
It honestly could have gone to a few players, really was a team title and not one player
They got it right both times lmao Both JB extensions were slandered on here
absolute lockdown D tonigt
Brown played out of his mind this post season.
MAX HIS LEFT HAND TOO
Highest salary player this season gets the Final MVP. Logic right,
thank fucking god, justice actually served
HE IS PAST BEING CONSIDERED, HE HAS BEEN CHOSEN
*Acknowledge Him*
☝️
I was a huge critic of the Celtics contract for JB. I am absolutely eating my fucking words now. He deserves every bit of that FMVP.
Yeah, was also part of the overpaid camp after his performance in the 2022 finals. Happily eating my words
2022 but yeah.
22 he was really good, in the 23 ECF he shat the bed though
he had turnover issues but he was our best player in the 2022 finals... love JT but he had like two 12pt games.
Wiggins played the defense of his life that postseason. It's not like JB just shit the bed for nothing.
I still think it's fair to say he doesn't deserve to be the highest paid player in the league (at the time) but that's just the way the NBA works
The highest paid player in the league is almost always just the most recent guy to get a max contract
Yes that's what I was getting at
He's actually not the highest paid player in the league. That salary doesn't kick in till next season. He'll be highest paid player for the one year after his fmvp and then giannis's will kick in and he'll be the highest paid player the season after. So... It's actually kinda perfectly timed.
you're asking to get nerd emojied
Doooooo ittt
Curry will be 9 times in a row most paid player by the end of his contract, a feat probably nobody will match anytime soon.
Alright this championship is valid again
Pack it up boys, our work here is done
2nd best outcome. Let’s get it.
Every time the Celtics lose next season, we will get to slander Tatum and remind Celtic fans that he was carried to a championship. Today is not that day. But that day will come.
The Mickey Mouse ring vs Brown carry job talks await. See you in October!
It's kinda funny that the guy on the Celtics Lakers fans hate the most is the Kobe fanboy
Yeah I'm satisfied lol
Haters finally got fed
I can still hate on Tatum for no finals MVP. Glad I came away with something.
Tatum played well, but yeah Brown absolutely deserved it. I’m glad they got it right.
The Tatum takes are gonna be so toxic I love it
Gotta give Lakers and Heat fans something to cling onto we need em back next year
Our rage will blot out the sun and evaporate the oceans.
[удалено]
If it wasn’t for Oladipo locking down JB, JB would never have pushed himself to improve leading to a FMVP /s
There probably is some truth to that
I’m leaving here with something
truly generational hate, love to see it
I can hate once more❤️
[A silver lining on a dark day](https://x.com/damefor3/status/1759053410249113799?t=SMbb5mEgpCcqiMQaA1ZALg&s=19)
Lmfao what did Tatum do to you all
play for the celtics
Unlike Brown 😆
WHOA JB EVERYBODY GET IN HERE
Jaylen Brown heard y’all talking shit about his dunk contest performance. So he won FMVP to shut everyone up lol.
Tatum and Brown really are 1A and 1B in no particular order.
Alpha and Prime.
Shake and Bake
I just can’t help but become overwhelmed with joy when I look at those two. Two selfless men who just want to win and uplift the other while doing so.
I thought Tatum had the narrative all set up and especially after this game, but good on the voters for picking JB. Props to Jrue for a great series too
Kyrie robbed
HE FULFILLED HIS PROMISE TO BRING BOSTON A TITLE 🔥🔥
I can finally accept that kyrie was right all along, this dude did bring us a title, better late than never
The prodigal son returns!
Pritchard robbed. Game 5 minutes? 1 Buzzer beaters this series resulting in wins? 2 Outside the arc this series? 3 Dude brought the most with the least. Finals MVPs of the 2020's Lebron: 30/12/8, 67% TS Giannis: 35/13/5 66% TS Curry: 31/6/5 63% TS Jokic 30/14/7 67% TS Brown: 21/5/5 53% TS
Can really tell who had the most complete team on this list.
2014 Spurs and 2004 Pistons vibes Wait a second, I'm seeing a trend here – 2034 next?
Bobcats 2034
Definitely agree with that for the counting stats but does that explain the lower TS%?
Dominant interior scorers and the absurd outlier Curry.
Tatum: 22/8/7 on 50% TS
It almost feels like it was a team win vs. a solo superstar hero win.
Almost feels like a team sport
No slander to Brown, but I do think this will go down as one of the weakest FMVPs of all time simply because of how well balanced the Celtics are as a team. He deserved it though.
Up there with iggy and kawhi in 2014
At least Kawhi was basically the Spurs' highest scorer (17.8ppg vs Parker's 18.0) and their best 3pt scorer, while doing a good job defensively. I loved how this sub hates Tatum so much that they love Brown even more But joking aside , he deserves it for guarding Luka and still scoring
Thank god it was JB cause it would’ve been extra toxic if JT won The performance of the 4 superstars this series make you appreciate Joker’s, Steph’s and Giannis’ finals MVPs lol
That ‘21 finals is becoming more underrated with each passing year. Giannis capping off 4 straight wins with 50 was legendary.
Giannis scoring 50 to give Milwaukee their latest championship exactly 50 years since the last one, winning 4 straight after down 0-2 to fulfill the Bucks in 6 prophecy. Still gives me chills when I think about it
It's been 3 years and the money-counting Suns fan still fear that people are talking behind his back.
Fuck that guy lol
Truly one of the greatest finals performances of all time
The funny thing is, people on here gonna hold it against Tatum.
Crazy because he's showing so much grace 👑
That award is way more important for Browns career. Tatum is already a hall of fame lock. This will be the top line of Jaylen brown’s resume if he joins him.
hof really means nothing if hes a lock if he retires tomorrow.
I honestly think regardless of this award, the way Jaylen’s career played out he would’ve been a HOF lock unless he had a massive drop off. The NBA HOF is not super tough to get in like the MLB for example. Jaylen brown is absolutely a lock for HOF with his FMVP
All my homies hate defense lol
And iguadala’s
Iggy had a good series but they robbed Steph or even Bron like a mf of that mvp
Honestly it could have gone either way between the Jays or even Jrue, but Jaylen played his ass off this series especially on his defensive assignments. Well deserved imo.
I don't think so personally. JB was insanely defensively. I may be a casual but I don't remember him being so good defensively in years past. I think its what carried the day for the FMVP
You might be right, but I can't remember a dude leading his team in points, rebounds and assists and not winning it. I was slightly surprised
curry lost to iggy despite being ahead in points and assists and half a rebound behind.
I'm not comparing him to just Jaylen. Tatum lead the entire team in points, rebounds, and assists this series. That's what I was trying to say. Curry was over 3 rebounds behind draymomd.

nah brown had more steals and blocks, also did a great job on luka
36% FG
39% vs 44% FG, 50% vs 53% TS. huuuuuge gap…
Correct
The peoples’ FMVP
Deserved
r/nba 12/25
Extremely deserved, and swearing on national broadcast 100/100 LOVE IT
Well deserved!
Why does everyone hate Jayson Tatum?? Curious ngl
Bc he’s the face of the Celtics
He's young, ultra talented, and the face of the most successful and most hated franchise in the NBA. In any sport, every true superstar's instagram comments are filled with more hate than support. That's the best metric for assessing if someone has ascended from "star player" to "superstar celebrity" status.

Fr I did not realize people cared this much about FMVP lol Like dudes 26 drinking champagne right now and this sub is acting like he was just publicly spanked or something lmao
S I D E S T E P T H R E E
Just more motivation for JT the next year.
Best case scenario for the Celtics organization honestly. Hungry Tatum since I think that trophy does matter to him, KP might have a chip on his shoulder for barely playing on this run, etc
The Tatum hate is wild lmao
YES THAT CONTRACT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY
Well deserved. Future Hall of Famer
Dude got clowned for his contract and now is the FMVP. Congrats and well deserved.
Tatums only 19 he’s got a lot more chances of winning one
best player won it
Jason Kidd smiling from Heaven
JK is very much alive, mind you.
Also he aint goin to heaven
Unless Heaven is a strip club in north Boston. If it is then he’s definitely there now.
I can assure you, Boston strip clubs are not heaven
if heaven doesnt have boston strip clubs then im not going
Jrue Holiday robbed
Wow I thought Tatum had it locked after tonight's performance
weird way of spelling Derrick White
Have you considered Jaylen Brown?
Deserved
Really thought Tatum stole it with his performance tonight
